In 2012, when I first started playing Minecraft, I was a complete novice when it came to the HUD, specifically the hunger bar. I mainly explored the wonders of creative mode, but when I logged onto a crowded, war-torn faction server, I had no idea that my greatest enemy wouldn't be the hordes of angry PVPers, but the slow ravages of starvation.
I had just created a faction simply called "Iron" with my friend, and by the end of an hour we had five members. Now, this story is not just of one noobish act, but of two. First, we had the balls to challenge a fifteen man faction to a head-on battle in a desert between our bases. They outnumbered us three to one, but in my inexperience I assumed that we had a fair chance at beating them. I led my faction out into battle, and when I saw our opponents coming out in a big group from around a hill I suddenly had my doubts. They were bedecked in armor, while only one of us was fortunate enough to have found a diamond chestplate. They were also armed with diamond and iron swords. We had no choice but to follow through with our challenge and fight them.
We got our butts handed to us, predictably, but I managed to escape. My friend had ragequit previously, in the heat of the battle (which lasted about a minute). The PVPers seemed to have lost me, but I was now the equivalent of miles away from my base. Now, I had no idea I'd have to run away from the battle. So I hadn't brought any food items. Slowly, I realized that my hunger bar was drained, and since I had very little awareness I caught on to this after it dropped to 1 and a half. Panicked I checked my inventory, only to discover I had no food, just blocks and some busted-up weapons. I had no idea where I was. I could only keep walking, and die...
Now, I learned my lesson, and only the week after my death I set out with Iron and twelve cooked porkchops to settle the score. This time we were properly equipped and our number had grown to eleven or so. The resulting battle was hampered by the fact that some idiot somewhere else on the server had spawned a Ghast, but in the end we stopped fighting and agreed that we were pretty much tied.
