Jamie and Vinny pulled up to a house. Jamie glanced down at the warrant in his hand and matched the addresses.
"This is it." Vinny nodded and opened his car door. Jamie followed Vinny up the walk way and knocked on the door. A grumpy old man opened the door.
"Good morning sir, I am officer Reagan…"
"I don't like cops."
"Sir, is your son home?"
"No." The man slammed the door. Jamie knocked again.
"Sir, please open the door." Suddenly a gunshot went off and Jamie and Vinny dove to the ground. More shots fired through the front door.
"Requesting backup. Shots fired." Jamie let go of the button on his radio and crawled towards Vinny. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins.
"You hit?" Vinny groaned a little.
"Yea, but it's in the vest. You good?"
"Yea, I think so." The shots stopped and the front door was ripped opened. The grumpy old man stepped on the front porch.
"I don't like cops." He raised his gun towards Jamie and Vinny. Jamie already had his gun drawn and fired at the man. The old grumpy man fell to the ground and Jamie stood and kicked his gun away. Seeing the man dead, took all of Jamie's adrenaline and pain hit him like a freight train. Jamie looked down at the source of the pain. His right thigh had blood covering it, he reached down and touched the wound, when he pulled his hand away, it was stained red.
"Reagan?" Vinny watched his partner sway and then fall to the ground.
"Officer down!" Vinny yelled into his radio. He tried to sit up, but the pain in his chest stopped him. "Reagan!"
Jamie lay on the ground growing weaker with each heartbeat. His mind vaguely registered that Vinny was calling for him, but he was too weak to reply. He watched the blood pool out of his wound and onto the wooden porch.
"Reagan!" Vinny was desperately trying to get to his partner, but his aching ribs were keeping him on the ground. Finally, sirens could be heard approaching and then tires squealing as the vehicles came to a stop. "Reagan?" Vinny tried calling his partner again. This time he got an answer, but not from the Reagan he was trying to call.
"Vinny?" Danny came into view. Danny's eyes went from Vinny to Jamie.
"Jamie!" Danny sank to his knees next to his brother. Jamie's eyes were closed and his heart beat was barely there. "I need paramedics now!"
Danny watched as the paramedics worked on Jamie and then placed his on a gurney and ran towards the waiting ambulance. Danny turned to Vinny and helped him off the ground.
"You ride with him and get yourself checked out." Vinny nodded and let a paramedic help him into the back of the ambulance. Just before the doors closed, Danny saw Vinny grab Jamie's hand. Danny sighed and pulled out his phone, he had some difficult phone calls to make.
The Reagan family burst through the doors of the ER. The nurse at the front desk recognized Frank and directed them to Jamie's room. When they entered, Vinny was sitting in a chair and went to stand, but grimaced from the pain in his chest.
"He's going to be fine." Vinny went to stand again. "I'll let you have some time." Frank placed a hand on his shoulder and gently shoved him back into the chair.
"Stay." Vinny smiled and sank back into the chair.
