Chapter 7

As Seven of Nine recovered from her ordeal on the planet, Tom and Harry had noticed the strange behavior between Bellana and Seven. They seemed almost seemed friendly towards each other.

Mess Hall

"Tom have you noticed anything strange about Bellana?" Harry asked.

"Now that you mention it, yeah," Tom said shoveling his breakfast into his mouth. He had no time to think about what exactly his breakfast, Neelix had called eggs, was truly made of. He only knew that the substance he was currently shoveling was of the right color and texture.

"Seven and Bellana have been nice to each other. They talk all the time. Sometimes well into the night," said Tom still shoveling in his food.

"Something changed between then on that planet, Harry said drinking his coffee. He looked at Tom as he ate his breakfast with a distasteful grimace.

"How can you eat that?" Harry asked.

"It's not that bad. Plus I have no rations, so it's this or nothing," Tom said swallowing the mouthful of food and following it up with what Neelix called the Captains' choice of coffee.

"Look, Harry. The girls had a traumatic experience. They are trying to put everything behind them. The only good thing that came out of that whole ordeal was their friendship. Don't worry so much."

"I'm trying Tom but Seven is hiding something. I think more happened to them then what they're telling us."

"Well we have to be patient and let them tell us when they are ready," Tom said. "For now let's just be thankful that they are not trying to beat each other to a pulp," Tom laughed as they sat together in the Mess Hall.

Engineering

A conduit blows and smoke fumes billow.

"I thought I told you not to increase the stream until I gave the okay?" Bellana yelled to Seven.

"Forgive me Lieutenant. I was under the impression that you had completed your calculations and that you were ready to receive the transfer," Seven shouted back.

"Well you were wrong. Once again," said Bellana.

"Five minutes. You couldn't wait five minutes for me to give the okay," Bellana glared at Seven.

"If your brain did not function in such a slow manner this would have never occurred," Seven returned.

"Don't start with me Seven, I'm not in the mood."

"That is an understatement considering you have been arguing with everyone that has come in contact with you this morning. Did you and Lieutenant Paris not have an agreeable evening?"

The rest of the engineering saw the storm clouds brewing.

"Everyone out," shouted Bellana. The rest of the engineering staff ran for the exit like their lives depended on it. As the doors closed, they all heard Bellana shouting, "You want to finish where we left off last time Borg."

"Vorick to the bridge." Janeway sat in the Captain's chair and answered the helm.

"Yes Mr. Vorick, what seems to be the problem?"

"Captain. Lieutenant Torres and Seven of Nine have engaged themselves in a combat ritual and have dismissed the rest of the staff from engineering," he said in a calm Vulcan voice.

"Shit!" said the Captain in a rare use of profanity. "On my way. Commander you have the bridge," she shouted to Chakotay on her way to the turbolift.

It's good to be back.
