Jamie was taking cover behind a cement park bench. He was chancing a purse thief when the thief had opened fire. Jamie had called for backup, but they were still five minutes out. Jamie jumped out from behind the bench and continued to pursue the suspect. The thief turned and fired three shots, two missed and one nailed Jamie in his bicep. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins, so he barely felt the bullet rip through his skin and into his muscle. Jamie continued to run after the thief. Jamie fired a shot and in barely missed the man. Jamie pushed himself harder, when the thief turned the corner, onto a bridge. When Jamie turned he corner, the man was gone. Jamie crept forward slowly. The man appeared behind Jamie and pistol whipped him. Jamie fell to the ground, his vision blurry. The man kicked Jamie and flipped him onto his back. Jamie squinted, trying to see clearly. When his eyes focused, he saw the thief's gun pointed directly at him. The man had a pure look on rage on his face. Jamie's life flashed before his eyes.

He closed his eyes, knowing that it was the end. A single gunshot echoed throughout the park. Jamie slowly opened his eyes. He watched the thief fall to the ground dead. Then he saw Danny running towards him, his gun still raised. Jamie let out a sigh and silently thank God. As Danny approached, Jamie's adrenaline disappeared and the pain in his arm and head slowly started to consume him.

"Are you ok kid?" Tears were in Jamie's eyes. Danny pulled Jamie to his feet.

"Danny, I thought..." Danny pulled Jamie into a hug.

"I know kid." Danny pulled back and notice the blood on Jamie's uniform. "You hurt kid?"

"Yea" Jamie's eyes were starting to glaze over.

"Jamie, I need you to sit down, ok? You're going into shock." Danny guided Jamie to a bench and called for an ambulance. Danny looked over Jamie and found the gun shot wound and a gash in the back of Jamie's head. Danny applied pressure to Jamie's arm and Jamie started to laugh. "What's so funny?"

"They say when you are about to die, your life flashes before your eyes. They're right. When he had his gun aimed at my head, I had a feeling that that was the end and it was over. I thought I was going to die." Jamie's laughter turned to crying. "I was so close to losing my life today."

"As long as I am around, you are not going down." Danny fought back tears as the paramedics rushed over to them. He let them take Jamie and he watched as the ambulance drove away. Danny started sobbing. He had come extremely close to losing his baby brother. But today he was able to save him. But what about next time, would he be able to rescue him?
