I am litterally blown away by the response I got for the last chapter. So, as promise, here's another one. I am still within the three days mark, although I had wanted to publish this before, but classes have started and Spanish is giving me a hard time, so it means more work. Enjoy!
Severide's eyes squinted as the sunlight penetrated into the room through the half closed blinds. He sighed and brought a hand up to rub his eyes, wondering for a second where he was. His headache was a good clue of how much he had drunk the night before.
He groaned and rubbed his forehead, trying to place the events in a right order.
Shift, Molly's, Antonio's birthday party, Erin. Erin in that green dress.
Severide was talking to Herrmann at the bar, his body turned toward the door. He heard the bell chime over the loud music and nearly chocked on his drink as his girlfriend strode in.
Herrmann looked behind him to see what had Severide bewitched, and turned back to him with a smirk. He patted his back. "You okay, sport?"
His eyes never left his girl as she approached them, all the while saying hi to the the people she knew. "Yeah."
"Hey Herrmann," Erin greeted with a smile, and Kelly's coworker hugged her quickly.
"Hey Erin, good to see you,"
Then she turned to Kelly and he gulped, fighting very hard not to run his eyes up and down her body. She kissed his cheek and ran her hand over his arm while whispering into his ear, "I'll say hey to the others. Order me a scotch? Neat."
It took Severide a few seconds to recover from the sexiness of her voice, and Herrmann had to raise his eyebrows upon seeing the look on the younger man's face.
"Dude, stop drooling," Severide blinked, being pulled out of his reverie, and ordered Erin's drink. He felt a tap on his shoulder and smiled at Shay as she sat on the stool next to him.
"So!" She exclaimed, and he could tell by the sparkle in her eyes that she was a little bit drunk. "Erin looks amazing."
Severide rolled his eyes, "Oh, I know, believe me."
The blonde pouted, her shoulders slumping. "I need a girlfriend."
"To get over Rafferty? I know her transfer to the other side of the country has been hard on you."
Shay sighed and took a sip of her beer, "I'm over her, it's been two months. I want the real thing, you know? Like you and Erin have. By the way, when are you proposing?"
Severide smiled sheepishly and looked around to make sure Herrmann was out of ear shot and that Erin was nowhere to be seen. "I kinda did."
"WHAT." Shay's eyes grew wide, and she sealed her lips together when her best friend sent her a look. "You were saying?"
"We just spoke about marriage and everything. She told me that she didn't wanna get married now because of everything that's happened, but eventually, yes."
"Oh. My. God," Shay whispered. "I'm so happy for your guys. So, when are you gonna do it?"
Severide knew he should not have told her. She was going to talk about it non stop until he proposed. Then again, Shay was his best friend, and he wanted her to be a part of it from the beginning.
"I don't know," He said. "In a few months, I guess."
"Please, please, please, let me help you organize everything," She gasped and clutched his biceps. "Do you have a ring?"
He laughed and removed her hand from his arm, "No, Shay, I don't have a ring," He smiled and took a sip from his beer. "Chill out, alright?"
"Wow, what have you done with my best friend?" She joked, eying him carefully. "You should be freakin' out, why aren't you freakin' out?"
Kelly shrugged a shoulder, "I guess that, when it's meant to be, you just know it, and there's no reason to feel nervous."
Shay pulled him into a hug and whispered into his ear. "I'm so proud of you, Kelly."
He messed up her hair playfully when she pulled away, obviously his way to say thanks. Shay left him at the bar then, and he was quietly sipping his beer, until a petite, blonde woman came to stand next to him at the bar. She ordered a scotch and soda and turned to Severide while the waitress prepared her drink.
"Hello," she said, then extended her hand. "I'm Charline."
Kelly shook her hand, "Kelly. Kelly Severide."
She nodded and collected her drink, "And how do you know Antonio?"
"He's the brother of a coworker and friend of mine. You?"
He clearly had no interest in the conversation whatsoever, but he couldn't just leave, it wouldn't be polite.
"Worked on patrols together after the Academy. Now I'm a sheriff. So if you're a coworker of Gabriela's, it means you're a firefighter?"
"Yes," He said with humility. He took another sip and almost chocked when she ran her hand down his arm.
"I could have told, with that built you have."
He cleared his throat uncomfortably and rubbed the back of his neck. "Thank you, I guess."
She giggled and he tried so hard not to roll his eyes. He felt a hand on his back then and turned his head to see his girlfriend.
"Kelly, can I talk to you outside for a minute?"
Yes, please.
She led him outside the back door by the hand and pressed him against the wall (not that it was difficult, he was pretty smitten right now). She grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him down until their lips met hungrily, and he moaned in surprise, before his hands found her hips and pulled her closer.
She swept her tongue over his bottom lip and he gladly responded, biting her lip lightly. When they were both out of breath, she pulled away, and it took him a few seconds to recover. Erin had put a distance between them and had crossed her arms over her chest, an eyebrow cocked for good measure.
"The sheriff, really?"
He put his hands up in defense. "She came onto me. And I was freaking uncomfortable back there, clearly you must have seen that. Plus, in that dress, I only have eyes for you babe."
She arched her eyebrow even higher, "Only in that dress?"
He grabbed her hand and pulled her back to him in one swift movement, wrapping his arm around her waist. "All the time, baby."
Kelly bent down and kissed her hard. She sighed when they pulled apart. "I love Antonio, but right now I just want you to take me home, and make me worth a while."
He just nodded, and she took his hand to lead him to the parking lot. He did not say it, because he knew it would earn him quite a look, but he digged jealous Erin.
Kelly was pulled out of his reverie when he felt Erin shuffle next to him. He laid back down and snuck up behind her, placing his hand on her hip. He pressed his lips to the crook of her neck and felt her muscles tense as she smiled. She rolled onto her back and gazed up at him as he hovered her.
"Morning," she murmured, cupping his cheek.
Kelly peppered featherlight kisses on her skin before kissing her lips properly. "Morning."
"I don't wanna move," she complained, moving slightly more into his embrace, like she was in a safe cocoon.
He ran his fingers up and down her spine as he looked down at her. "You wanna stay in bed all day? What happened to the hyper active Erin Lindsay?"
"You happened."
He couldn't help but smile. "And I thought I was the cheesy one."
She pushed against his chest, although she did not want him to go anywhere, "Shut up." He chuckled and kissed her forehead. "What time is it?"
He glanced at the clock on his side of the bed, "9 am. You have the day off, right?"
"Yep. That's why I don't want to get up."
He nodded his head and pulled away from her, moving to get up. Upon seeing her questioning look, he asked, "How does breakfast in bed sound?"
She bit her lip as her eyes racked his imposing chest. Before she could say anything, her stomach rumbled and Kelly raised his brow. Erin shook her head and pulled him down on top of her.
"Breakfast can wait."
"Let's order in," Erin said as she lay on her stomach, her chin propped up on her elbow as she gazed at Severide.
He looked back at her with amusement in his eyes, "So you're really taking that, 'let's not get out of bed at all' to the letter, huh?"
"Yep."
"It's a beautiful day, let me take you out for lunch," he said. "Just the two of us?"
"Just the two of us? What am I gonna tell my other boyfriend?"
He narrowed his eyes at her, "Funny."
"Stop pouting," she warned.
"I'm going to hop in the shower and then we can go?"
She kissed him quickly. "Sounds good."
She watched him leave the room and stretched, extending her arms over her head, inhaling deeply and breathing out slowly. For one of the first times in weeks, she felt good, and at peace.
Everything had turned back to normal. Halstead had moved back to his apartment after two weeks in the hospital and no consequences from the accident apart from a sprained wrist and few weeks out of work. The bounty situation had been taken care of, and the Intelligence Unit had only had minor cases in the last week.
Her phone beeped from the bedside table and she prayed that it was not Voight telling her to come in. As much as she loved her job, she needed a day with Kelly, just the two of them. She sighed in relief when she saw it was a text from Burgess.
You left the party early last night, is everything ok?
Erin smiled and typed back a reply, Everything is perfect ;)
Her coworker and friend's response was immediate, Girl, details?
Nope. Enjoy your day off with Adam!
Although Burgess and Ruzek had agreed on keeping their relationship a secret, Erin was not dumb. When the subject was brought up, Kim would just feign innocence, but the sparkle in her eyes gave her away every single time.
"You ready to go?" Kelly asked as he pulled his eyes away from the paper he was reading, as Erin walked into the living room.
"Yep," she answered, pulling her purse over her shoulder. She had decided to wear a light sun dress, covering her shoulders with a jean jacket. They walked to the door and before she could open it, he brought her against him.
"C'mere," he murmured, bending down to capture her lips. She closed her eyes and melted into him.
"If you keep doing that we'll never make it out of here."
He cleared his throat, "Right. Let's go."
He had surprised her by making a quick reservation to a nice restaurant where they could eat on the roof and admire the city of Chicago. He knew how much she loved her city, even though she had a time where she wanted to flee from it, now he could see the sparkle in her eye as she gazed at the infinity of skyscrapers with serenity.
He grabbed her hand across the table as they waited for their lunch to be delivered and smiled.
"What?" she asked, feeling her cheeks get hot under his eyes.
"Nothing. Just admiring the view," They both knew he was not talking about the view of the city.
She hit his hand, "Perv,"
He simply shrugged his shoulders and gave her a cheeky smile. "Just being honest."
The waiter bought their salad and they started eating.
"Shay seemed happy yesterday," Erin commented after swallowing a mouthful of her meal.
"Shay was drunk."
"I had noticed," Erin said. "So what were you two talking about?"
His phone beeped before he could answer, and although he would like for them to leave their phone at the apartment when it was just the two of them, they both had important jobs and they could be called at any minute. It was a message from Shay.
Okay. So, I kinda kissed Nadia last night...
He quickly typed a response: And?
Aaaand, we're going on a date tonight. I know, crazy, right?
"What is it?" Erin asked upon seeing the amusement on Kelly's face. He looked up and leaned forward.
"Shay and Nadia are going on a date." Erin's eyes widened, but her reaction seemed a bit off. "You already knew about it, didn't you?"
The brunette feigned innocence. "Kinda? Okay, no, I didn't know they were going on a date. But I did know that Nadia found Shay very cute. So I might have meddled a bit. But that's it. It's good for Shay, right? She's felt so down with that Rafferty stuff. Nadia would be good for her. I know it. And they both deserve it."
Kelly smiled, kissed Erin's knuckles and quickly typed a reply to Shay: I'm happy for you. When can you go ring shopping with me?
He did not even have time to put his phone down, Shay's reply appearing on the screen of his phone : *squealing*
They got back to their apartment later that night, and decided to order in and watch a movie. It was not hard to choose, since Erin wanted to watch a crime movie (duh) and Kelly liked pretty much everything.
They settled down in bed with Chinese food, Erin only wearing one of Kelly's button down, making it very difficult for him to focus on anything other than her smooth legs. They abandoned the movie around the second half, when Kelly's hand had found its way under the shirt and his lips had found her collarbone.
They laughed when they almost toppled over the food on the side of the bed and Kelly decided to clear everything before coming back into the room, finding Erin gazing out through the window at the lit city, just as he had that morning.
He came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, tucking his chin in the crook of her neck.
"What's on your mind?"He whispered into her ear, before placing a delicate kiss on her neck.
"Nothing," she said, leaning back against him. "I'm just...very happy."
I hope reading this chapter made you as happy as me while writing it. Quick question: I am debatting whether or not write my own version of what's going to happen in next Chicago Fire's episode, and making Erin a big part of it. What do you think?
