Author's Notes: And the cuteness ensues!

Day Forty-Nine: Bubbly by Colbie Caillat

Spencer smoothed out the front of her dress before running up the steps of the house. She knocked on the door excitedly. She had just gotten back to Rosewood after a month-long stint in France with her parents and older sister, Melissa. She wanted to see him before she saw anyone else.

A thirty-something year-old woman came to the door and opened it. "Spencer? What are you doing here?" she inquired.

"Hi, Mrs. Cavanaugh," Spencer replied. "Is Toby home?"

Mrs. Cavanaugh looked at her for a moment before shaking her head. "No, but he should be home any minute. He went for a walk with his father. How are you, Spencer? Do you want me to make you a snack while you wait?" she asked as she led Spencer into the living room.

"No, thank you, Mrs. Cavanaugh," Spencer said with a small laugh.

"Are you sure? I made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, which I know are your favorite," she added.

Spencer bit her lip. She knew she wasn't supposed to eat cookies or dessert before suppertime. "I don't think I'm allowed to, Mrs. Cavanaugh," she answered back as she swung her feet back and forth.

"What if you had milk with the cookies? Milk is healthy. That would cancel out the bad stuff, right?"

Spencer thought about it. "Yeah, I guess so."

Spencer quickly got up and followed Mrs. Cavanaugh into the kitchen.

"…And I can't wait to go back to school and see all my friends—"

Spencer realized that Mrs. Cavanaugh turned her attention to someone behind her. She turned around to see Toby standing there. He had gotten taller and almost looked like a year older than when she saw him a month.

"Hey, Toby," Spencer said calmly. But for some reason, she felt this tingly feeling in her toes and her feet. She crinkled her nose.

He broke out into a laugh. "You have chocolate all over your face," he said before walking over to the table to take a cookie for himself.

She felt kind of silly and used a napkin to wipe her face.

"Do you want to go to the park?" he asked her as he finished his cookie and took a drink of her milk.

She shrugged. She suddenly felt really weird around him.

"I'll race you there!" he called before taking off.

That made her laugh. "No fair! You started before me!"

The tinglies spread from her feet and her legs throughout her whole body. They were on the swing sets and her whole body felt as if it were on pins and needles.

"How long have we been here?" he asked.

"I don't know."

It was quiet except for the occasional rustle of the leaves. It wasn't very bright out and it would likely rain soon. No birds were out. But it was still pretty warm out.

"I missed you over the summer," he told her.

She wasn't sure she heard him correctly. She fell off the swing. She did her best to keep from crying, but she really hurt her wrist on the way down. "Toby—"

Before she had any time to tell him anything, he had already ran off down the street to get his mother.

"I'm glad you don't have your cast anymore," Toby mumbled as he opened the door. Since she had gotten home, things had more or less gotten back to normal between the two of them. Still, she had gotten those tingly feelings back every now and then.

"Can I come in? It's wet out here," Spencer said as she shrugged some teardrops from the sky off her raincoat. He allowed her inside. Inside the house, you could hear the constant pitter-patter of rain on the windows and the roof.

"What did they do to your cast?" he asked, fascinated by it. He grabbed Spencer's arms, trying to decide if he could even still tell which one the cast was on and which one had gone cast-less.

She took her hands away. "You're weird," she said finally. "Can we play a game instead of talk about my stupid arm?" she asked as she ran into his living room. "How about…I'm a princess…and you're a prince…and we're hiding in our fort to try and stay away from the dragon attacking our castle!" she suggested as she bounced up and down on the couch.

"We don't have a castle," he pointed out.

"We can build one!" she answered.

After their makeshift castle, they laughed as they imagined a dragon attacking them.

"Toby!" Spencer shouted as he threw pillows at the imaginary dragon. "You're going to fall on me!" she warned him. He didn't even realize he was falling until she pointed it out.

He fell down on top of her. She was in a pile of blankets on the carpet in his living room.

"It's warm here," he commented.

She laughed some more has she pushed him off of her. "Get off!" she shouted playfully. The truth was that she loved days like this where they could play together and just be free. She just didn't really realize it. And she would never tell him that.

"Are you excited?"

She looked down at the simple, little embellishments on her white dress. She shrugged. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm not as excited for the party as I am for…what my life is going to be like," she explained.

The older woman standing behind her nodded. "You know this won't change anything between us, right? I've always looked at you like the daughter I never had," she confessed.

Spencer smiled at that.

"And I would hurt my son if he ever hurt you, even though he is my son. But I don't think I'll ever have to. He loves you and adores you, Spencer," Toby's mother informed her as she placed a necklace around Spencer's neck. "So if you're not excited, how do you feel about this?"

Spencer shrugged. "I don't know. I just feel like…this is right. This might sound extremely cheesy and you don't have to believe me, but I think I always kind of knew. Whenever I was around him, even when I was little, I always got these beautiful, bubbly little tinglies when I was around him. And even now, still, I feel different around him. I almost feel like that little girl again," she confessed. "And he makes me smile. That's what's most important."

Mrs. Cavanaugh nodded. "I'm glad you both finally figured that out. I always sensed this little attraction between the two of you, even when you were little. You were always there for him, and he always believed you," she said in agreement. Finally, she turned to get Spencer her veil. When she lowered it over to cover Spencer's visage, she smiled. "You make such a beautiful bride."

She smiled radiantly and blushed. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Cavanaugh."

"I guess we'll both be Mrs. Cavanaugh soon enough."

AL3110: I will make sure to send you guys a wedding present. You do realize that you made it sound like you and Em were married, right? I ship it. Even if you do slap her from time to time. No, I was not quoting Lana. I kind of just...hmm. Didn't do it on purpose!

MizzIsTheFizz:I guess because she's Sophia Lucia. She's just an amazing dancer. But she's kind of like a robot to me (when she dances). I look at her and I'm like, "You cannot be human. I don't think this is humanly possible." And I actually had to look them up. I just listened to "I Need Your Love" and "Somebody That I Used to Know" and it's kind of amazing people can even do that a cappella.

eveningshades1107: Oh, um...no? But I'll let your imaginative little brain think whatever it desires. Yeah, I did not hear the end of how incredible Jeremy Jordans is that year. There's this girl Mariah who is a huge Musical Theatre buff so she basically only talked about stuff if it had to do with Broadway and musicals. Hmm...Spoby waltzing together in asylums. I think that some 20's music would be playing in the background. Ooh, and it could be in noir! They could speak with their little 40's accents like in Shadow Play (though that was mainly Keegan). It would be awesome. Maybe they could just do a whole PLL version of RENT. I could picture Spencer as Mimi and then Toby as Roger. Ooh, and then Caleb could be Mark and it would totally work since Hanna is Maureen! But should Wren or Andrew be Benny? I'm not too sure yet. Eh, I think that PLL kind of has nine lives. And I did take some of your suggestions and mesh them into the original one-shot. It came out better than I thought (but still definitely not my best work, by a mile).

Alright, can I get a reaction from the finale? I did not like it at all. Besides the inclusion of Alison, Noel, and Mona, it was most definitely not my cup of tea. And I do not understand why Ezra said "It's so beautiful" before he pretty much dropped dead. And Alison's mother? Not what I expected, but at least this could be interesting. And I really missed Keegan/Toby.

So the next one-shot shall be Save My Life by ZZ Ward. I simply do not know what it is with me and ZZ, but my one-shots with her songs...not very good. Tomorrow's one-shot is actually really bad and I don't even want to look at it.

Crossing my fingers, guys.

So...I posted a new theory on my PLL tumblr. And if you have a Tumblr but don't follow me, please do. I try not to be lame, but...I'm close to 150 followers, okay? I'm excited. That's way more people than I'm even friends with. -Kayson
