Day Fifty-Three: Radioactive by Marina and The Diamonds
"Lying on a fake beach, you'll never get a tan," the blonde told Spencer as she handed her protective glasses. Spencer looked up at her.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
The blonde shrugged. "Destroying something meant to be destroyed will never be as satisfying as destroying something real."
She thought before taking the glasses. Then, she smirked. "That might be true, but a plastic tan never fades," she told her before walking into the room.
She opened the door to the room. Her friend had told her all about places like these. You could destroy everything for a small price. It was liberating.
She was glad places like this existed at the moment. If she hadn't resorted to this, she knew she'd resort to something worse. She felt violent as of lately, and she just itched and yearned to do something destructive.
The first thing she took was a baseball bat. After getting a feel for it, she took her frustration out on the table moved against a wall.
After her half hour was up, she felt better as she stared at the destruction left behind her.
She had gotten seven missed calls from him. Seven. Maybe that would finally teach him to admit his feelings for a girl he was seeing.
She swore to herself that she'd never admit this was a consistent thing between them. Even if she wanted it to be. He was too hot and cold. He was caring, maybe even loving, when it was dark out, but as soon as the sun rose, he was dissociative and distant.
So she left. She was the one who left every morning after every night they spent together. That was what happened, not the opposite, as he may have perpetuated.
She opened the door to the little diner they were meeting in tonight. The sun was starting to go down. She was waiting for it to go down completely so that he would show up again.
She looked up as she saw, in her peripheral vision, someone slide into the booth.
And the whole time he was before her, one thought echoed in her mind.
Mon amour, je vous mourir pour moi?
She wanted him to. Sometimes she just wanted him to die, but wouldn't it be greater if he died for her?
She just smirked slightly as she leaned back in her seat.
Tonight, she felt like plutonium or uranium or something else radioactive. Deadly.
She looked at him and she felt her blood boil. All of her anger felt only amplified by his presence. She couldn't tell anymore if it was love or hate.
She suddenly remembered something she recalled hearing once. Deception and perfection bred love and hate. If he was deceptive, that must've bred love, right?
She followed him into the motel room. This was what they always did. She was about to lose it if she had to spend a single night more in some scummy motel room.
She turned off the lights just as quickly as they had entered the room. In the darkness, with only a sliver of moonlight peeking into the room, she quickly stripped down and urged him to do the same.
She would never admit that she loved him. She knew as soon as she did that, he'd leave. That's what happened with her father.
So how did she cope? She blotted it with sex, cigarettes, and alcohol. But mostly sex and alcohol.
He touched her and it felt so cold.
When it was all over, some part of her cold, dead heart sunk a little more in her chest. The next day, it would start all over again. She wondered why she even stayed. It was so dangerous to be flirting with the bane of her existence.
In the end, nothing scared her more than he did. STDs, sickness, not even death scared her any more than love did. She knew he was her weakness and she was flirting with danger.
Yes, AL. I quoted Marina. Are you satisfied? (I actually didn't do that one on purpose...it just happened).
cupcakecat2000: Thank you! That wasn't really Spoby, but I'll probably spend at least a handful of one-shots dabbling with mostly either Spencer or Toby (like one I wrote just yesterday was mainly Toby, and Spencer comes in around the end). And I have a few cute ideas about centering some one-shots based on certain songs around a Spoby baby :) And I feel like I must support Ingrid since she's from my hometown. She does have a cool voice, though. And the songs I've heard by her, I've liked.
FabsirellaPrincessOfPopcornia: I love giving Spencer a bunch of different personalities. Like yesterday, she was like this sweet little innocent nice flower and today she's just...she's the homewrecker/beauty queen/housewife archetype today!
MizzIsTheFizz: I'm kind of glad you asked, but no, I was actually leaning more towards Toby and Emily in the beginning. And the dog is some big fluffy Golden Retriever who is just a giant teddy bear. I didn't name him, but I get the impression he'd just be really nice and sweet. I'm surprised you never heard this one by Marina! This is actually one of her more popular songs. I think it was either the first or second single from her second album. Oh, and gee, isn't that the million dollar question. Um...I don't really have a favourite song, period, much less a favourite song by MATD. But among my favourites...a lot of them are demos so you might not know them: Perfect-oh, Blindfold Me, Simplify, Horror Pop, How to Be a Heartbreaker, Living Dead, Oh No!, Hermit the Frog, and Mowgli's Road. I'm missing a ton, but those are some of my favourites. Thank you! I'm hoping for some cheesecake later. I've had chocolate cheesecake for dessert the last four days in a row, but I love cheesecake, so I would not mind another slice. Thank you!
Sarah: My offers pretty much always stand, so no worries! And I hope you post it (because I did love it). Thank you!
tobyequalshottness: Thank you! I hope you enjoy this story!
Now I'm listening to Lana Del Rey sing "Happy Birthday Mr. President" so I think today has been a good day so far. You know what would make it even better? HEARING FROM MY LOVELY READERS! Seriously, it could be like your birthday present to me! I totally love reviews!
So let me see if I can recall the next one-shot off the top of my head...it's Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.
Wow, I didn't know Bonnie Tyler was Welsh! #TheMoreYouKnow
So...yup. Please leave me a review! Even if it's just to tell me how I did Marina an injustice :| -Kayson
