Eddward woke up hot. Kevin lay wrapped around him. His red head on his chest. Eddward watched Kevin sleep. Beautiful. Just simply beautiful. Eddward looked outside his window. Dawn just barley approaching. The sun coming up slowly. The sky rippled with blues, reds, and purples. A Mocking Bird singing a beautiful song outside his window. Perfect. Eddward slid out from under Kevin and walked to the bathroom to take a shower. Sticky, sticky, sticky.
Eddward stripped down his clothes and stepped into the shower. The hot water loosening his tight muscles. He woke up tense. The hot shower slowly relaxed him. After minutes of being in the shower Eddward stepped out of the shower. He tipped toed to his room to grab a pair of clothes to wear without waking up Kevin. Kevin was sprawled out on Eddward's bed sound asleep. He was peaceful. Eddward quickly got dressed and headed into his study. He was wide-awake even though it was so early in the mooring. He quickly graded old assignments and entered them on grade book. He finalized a quiz he planned on giving sometime in the near future. He also cleaned out his mailbox. Eddward's mailbox pinged on his laptop, distracting him from his current occupation. It was a letter from the dean.
Dear fellow staff members, I am happy to announce that the Annual Fall Formal Dance for faculty and staff members will be taking place a week from now. For the new members of the faculty and staff the Annual Fall Formal Dance is a charity event he'd each year to help raise money for numerous organizations at the school. Everyone is welcomed to participate, the faculty and staff is encouraged to participate. On the night of the dance students and members of the community come and bid on which staff member will dance the longest. Each member of the staff that signs up to dance will gain sponsors who will pay them to win the dance marathon. All of the donations that staff member receive goes to better the school. I look forward for many of the faculty and staff to participate. Please feel free to sign up by responding to the email, speaking to me personally, or a member of the committee.
Best, Dean of Students
Eddward stared at the email blankly. Should I participate? Eddward thought to himself. Maybe next year. Eddward decided. However, he did decide to go and support the event.
"What are you doing?" Eddward looked up to see Kevin standing in the doorway to his office.
"Work." Eddward replied.
"You always do work. You need a break. No you need sleep."
"I'll sleep when I'm dead." Kevin chuckled at his response. Kevin came into his office and looked around.
"You have so many rooms in the apartment it's unbelievable." Kevin sat on his desk. "It's kind of a turn on if you ask me." Kevin leaned in and gave Eddward a kiss. Eddward kissed him back. "Let me show you."
"Not right now. I'm almost finished with this work. However, after I promise you can show me whatever you like." Kevin liked the way that sounded.
"I'll be waiting for you." Kevin said as he retreated from the room. On his way out a picture caught his eye. It was a picture of the girl he saw last night. She sat peacefully on a rock on a mountaintop. Kevin wanted to turn and ask Eddward who she was but he decided it'll be better to leave him alone. Kevin walked out of the rom and went back to bed. It was still early.
The weekend went by in a blur. Eddward and Kevin spent the whole weekend together watching old movies and showing each other their affection. The weekend ended to soon for the both of them. Monday came around and their lives went back to working and football practice. Eddward was sad to kiss Kevin goodbye as he walked out of his apartment back to his dorm. Eddward and Kevin both knew that they'll be together again soon enough but they wanted to be together at all times.
"Okay class read chapters 10-15 tonight and be ready for discussion." Eddward said to the class. "That is all for today." Students in the class began to pack up their belongings and hurriedly exit the classroom. Kevin waved to Eddward on his way out. They canceled their tutoring session today because Kevin had to prepare for a football game coming up. Before Kevin could leave the classroom completely Coach stopped him.
"Hey Coach what are you doing here?" Kevin asked.
"I came to speak to Professor Vincent." The Coach said looking at Eddward.
"Coach, how can I be of assistance to you?"
"Did you receive the email that was sent out a few days ago?"
"I did indeed."
"What do you think about it?"
"I think it is an excellent way to raise money for the school."
"What email?" Kevin asked.
"A formal dance is coming up for the faculty and staff to raise money for the school. I signed me and Professor Vincent up for the dance." Coach exclaimed. Eddward dropped his books he was putting away in his bag.
"Excuse me!? You did what?" Eddward stemmed.
"I signed me and you up to dance in the dance. I'm also making the whole football team come and support the event. I just wanted to let you know. I hope you aren't mad. If you need a dancing partner I can find you one." The Coach smiled.
"I do not need a dancing partner because I will not be attending the dance." Eddward said.
"What? I already signed us up. It will look bad on our records if we say we are going and never show up. Come on it's one night. It'll be fun. I promise." The Coach smiled widely. Eddward looked at Kevin who was trying to suppress a laugh.
"Alright." Eddward mumbled under his breath.
"Good to hear!" The Coached slapped Eddward on the back. "I look forward to seeing you Saturday! Can't wait to see who you bring!" The Coach turned around and walked away followed by Kevin. Kevin looked back and gave Eddward a wink.
Eddward walked back to his apartment. The wind was picking up making him cold. He walked quickly across the oath to his apartment. The path was eerie. Just a few days ago an innocent student was attacked here. The thought made Eddward shiver. Eddward flew up the stairs to his apartment and locked the door behind him. He had no work to do He made himself a cup of hot chocolate and sat in his front room. He watched the history channel. The TV wasn't enough of a distraction for him. His eyes started to wander the room. It wasn't to long until he realized that he was on edge. His eyes kept finding their way back to her picture.
Eddward got off of the couch and walked over to his bookshelf. He opened up the photo album that Kevin was looking at yesterday. He flipped through the photo album knowing exactly what he was looking for. Her.
"Rebekah Aldred." Eddward whispered her name.
"Who is she?" Eddward turned around startled by the voice behind him. It was Kevin standing in the entryway. He wore his practice uniform.
"What are you doing here Kevin? You almost gave me a heart attack." Eddward scratched.
"I wanted to see if you were okay. You seemed upset when Coach signed you up for the dance. I just wanted to see you. If you want me to go I will." Kevin leaned towards the front door.
"Heavens no. You just startled me. That's all. Please come in. Wait how did you get in?"
"The door was unlocked." Kevin said. Kevin walked and stood next to Eddward looking at the photo in his hand. "Who is she?" Kevin asked.
"She was the kindest woman in the world. Her name was Rebekah Aldred. My best friend. When I left Peach Creek and went to school she was the first friend I made. As you can imagine I didn't quite fit in well with my age and all. Neither did she. She was intelligent just like me. As you can imagine we became friends quickly. We were two peas in a pod." Eddward chuckled. "We spent every minute together. She loved the outdoors. She loved hiking and everything. We confided in each other. She was the first person I told that I was gay." Eddward paused. Soon after we graduated Rebekah got sick. She had many visits to the hospital. She was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. She was always paranoid and such. Soon she started to make passes at me. I felt horrible because I loved her, but I didn't love her the way she loved me." A tear dripped down from Eddward's eyes. "I gave her what she wanted but her conditions got worse to the point where she couldn't live by herself. I didn't know what to do so I did the best that I could do. I put her in a nice home where there are people who take care of her twenty-four seven. It was the set that I could do. She has no family. I'm the only family she has. I used to go see her but right now she isn't allowed any visitors. She's been having violent outburst. I miss her..." Eddward cried.
Kevin was moved by Eddward's emotions he has towards Rebekah. Kevin held Eddward soothing him. All this time Kevin felt jealous towards Rebekah when in reality she was Eddward's best friend. Eddward and Kevin sunk to the floor. Eddward cried in Kevin's arms.
