"As you went out, as you discovered more worlds. Humanity found something, perhaps in another era, or a different time, they were never there, to begin with. But in that one moment, man finally knew, they were not alone. Was there any doubt? Sure, such is the nature of those with the ability to think. But with an act of kindness not seen in so long, humanity had seeded their salvation against a greater foe in the future." - Unknown

Chapter 2: Behold, An Ignited Light

LOCATION: Planet Zorgen, Military Complex Ruins. DATE: 4/17/2352. Military Time: 07:40

An explosion echoed throughout the area, ODST Alyssa slammed her back against the wall, emptying the magazine and reloading the MA2C held in her hands. Her helmet's motion sensor was going berserk with activity, matching up to a dozen hostiles.

"Shit, they don't let up," The ODST muttered to herself, "This is O-3, Alyssa, Operation is compromised! I repeat! The Operation is compromised! Requesting immediate evac, it's swarming with mutants down here!"

"Where's the rest of the squad?" The Dragonheart replied, Roshi's voice asking the question.

"Lost squad leader in an ambush within the complex, sir!" She moved her head, peeking around the corner, the mutant aliens were looking for her. "Rest of squad fell down to lower floors when collapsing in on itself, no contact heard for past five minutes. Assumed MIA."

"You'll have to get on top of the roof, O-3, Pelican can only evac you from there."

"Roger that," Alyssa said, "Heading-"

"Hold it!" The voice of one of her team members interrupted, "This is O-4, Shirou, alive and well along with O-5, Lewis. Squad Leader O-1, Jack, KIA from falling debris."

"Can you get back to surface level?" Alyssa asked, taking notice her motion reading beeping the nearest mutant's closing proximity.

"Unknown, we'll attempt to. Take note, some sort of room ahead of our location. Heading there now." Shirou stated.

The Dragonheart answered on the channel, "You have twenty minutes tops until Pelican arrival, good luck."

"Oh damn, alone between a hard place and zombie-mutant rip-offs," Alyssa voiced her complaint, before looking two the hall. "Here goes nothing..."

LOCATION: Orbit above Planet Zorgen (Native Saiyan Translation: Sadala) DATE: 4/17/2352. Military Time: 12:32

It was unlikely, but the United Nations Space Command had discovered in that single moment, by the fortune of that one incident, the ODST members have found the reason behind the Planet's sorrowful and eternally dead state. The military group did not understand the wording at that time, but the recordings told the story all the same. For when Shirou and Lewis had entered that room they had discovered what could have been one of the remaining technological pieces not destroyed by the horrors of war.

A last will testimony of what occurred roughly five years prior.

Humanity had been five years too late, such a tiny, marginally time frame in the large history of space that made an incredible difference.

By sheer luck, the alien technology held an eerie semblance to its human counterpart. Though not entirely compatible, it would suffice and be incredibly easily for the centuries ahead technology of the United Earth Government to decipher.

This planet, this once earth-like world, dubbed Planet Zorgen by UEG scientist, was known by the native species to be named: Sadala.

Though the use of the Smart Artificial Intelligence, perhaps one of the first of many to be placed on a UNSC military vessel, Rei had jumped at the opportunity to piece together the mystery.

It was the AI that gave the name of these sentient natives, Saiyans.

"Alright, Rei, begin transmission." Captain Roshi Hermit said to the AI, the bridge only with the two of them on as the UNSC Dragonheart remained orbiting above the planet's atmosphere.

"Starting Transmission 00172D-07, Encryption Access, Key File: Zorgen-Dragon-Zero-Seven. To: United Earth Government President, From Captain Roshi Hermit (UNSC Service Number: 150150-70144-RH)." Rei said in an almost robotic tone.

"Start translation of file achieved from military complex ruins," Roshi said.

"Beginning," Rei started, "Age 737, the world is coming closer to total and complete war. The conflict between for the four nations has been accelerating, stock-piling on biological and nuclear weaponry. Politics have broken down, people are hiding, seeking shelter, yeah like that would help. The nature of the saiyans have a majority getting ready for battle to the death, riots litter the streets, civil war threatening to break apart in all the world's governments. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for everyone to lose themselves, and with the full moon coming close... Well, it might only happen every thousand years, but the Oozaru feral state will spark the end of the saiyan civilization."

"Continuing on, initial research into the effects of the biological weapon... Well, it's insane and considered impossible for any scientist of our technology level to even consider being plausible, yet there it is, a possibility made real. There's no origin story, no history, nothing to indicate where and how it was invented, it was like something just came and gave us the keys to our demise... And we fell for it."

"When, and I say when, the war begins. Everything on the planet with a developed Ki will either die or mutant. Couple with nuclear fallout, Planet Sadala will meet its end... Any survivors will be too young and unknowledgeable to deal with it, marking the end of the world..."

"Record," Roshi began, "Taken from my personal notes, I believe that the Saiyans were in a period similar to the Cold War, the exception being that it actually escalated into a full-on biological and nuclear war, more emphasis on the former than the latter. From what we could glean from both on surface results and the file obtained it appears that the biological weapons of mass destruction targeted this 'Ki' found within matured life on the planet. As a result, heavy mutations afflicted those above a certain threshold of this 'Ki'. AI Rei has detected an unusual energy found within the increasing in numbers saiyan survivors that she has listed as possibly the referred to 'Ki'. More information will be available upon more in-depth analysis by more suitable personal," He finished.

"End File." Roshi said to the Smart-AI

"Ending File, Sending Transmission. Sir, permission to speak freely?" Rei said.

"Go ahead," Roshi replied.

"The saiyan in the file, he stated that it was highly improbable for their level of technology to develop advanced biological weaponry."

"Yes?" Roshi said, starting to see where she was heading at.

"This is just a guess, but, do you believe another alien civilization more highly advanced gave it to them?"

"For our sakes, let us hope not. The information received concerning that particular point is now hereby classified under High Directive eyes only. Understood?"

"Understood, Captain."

"Now, let us save a dying race."

LOCATION: Unknown DATE: 4/20/2352. Military Time: 13:00

It had a few days since the UNSC Dragonheart discovered Planet Sadala, also known as Planet Zorgen to the United Earth Government. By action of Captain Roshi Hermit, all salvageable information related to the Saiyans from their civilization's ruins below had been taken, analyzed, and stored within sealed containment. While all rescuable refugees, or survivors, had been escorted into the UNSC Frigate and kept within the cafeteria which had been hastily renovated to allow for the large intake of, in all point of views, children.

The United Earth Government were in fierce debate back in the Sol System, most likely trying to discuss what to do with the remaining survivors of the saiyan species. They were aliens, yes, but they were so human-like it was by all accounts shocking that they weren't just the same species in the first place. Many had forgone the existence of sentient alien species in favor of space colonization, political debate, and economical situations.

At first, it had been a dozen or two saiyan children, that number grew quickly as the crew discovered more pockets across even a single continent. But even then, it wasn't some grand number, wasn't an entire race of people numbering in the millions. No, the consequences of war and five years of hell certainly made its mark in decimating the populace of a once pride race.

A dozen, to a hundred, a hundred, to a thousand. Soon it became apparent that the UNSC Dragonheart couldn't save them all... There wasn't enough room, and too few military forces to explore an entire world.

Luckily, the distance between Reach and Zorgen wasn't as grand as one would think. Within a day or two, more qualified UNSC vessels would arrive to aid in the situation revolving around one of humanity's largest discoveries.

But outside of the solar system, out of the detection of the United Nations Space Command.

Hidden behind a veil of advanced technology.

A lone, tiny, mobile station floated in the depths of space.

And within that strange looking station, glowing in a vast of blue hard lights that one could walk upon them.

One Artificial Intelligence, dating in age back 100,000 years...

Took notice of the event.

"They have found them, they found it. It's them, the Reclaimers. But it is too soon for them right now, the Reclaimers still need to grow before it can begin. But still, I will alert the others. The Reclamation is nearing at hand."

TIME LINE

UNSC Year 2352

The UNSC Dragonheart reports the discovery of alien life upon Planet Zorgen, now dubbed Planet Sadala. These aliens are to be known as the Saiyans. A huge biological and nuclear war had occurred, decimating their numbers and leaving their children to die slowly in the aftermath. Captain Roshi Hermit declares to save them, marking a historical event for humanity after sending down military forces and rescuing over 500 saiyan children before more UNSC aid could arrive.

Along with saving saiyans, every scrap of information found in the planet below to be legible had been taken back, analyzed, and then stored in sealed preservation containment for later investigation by UEG scientists. Such knowledge would later be used.

After much debate, the United Earth Government elect to have the Kakarot System, a region of space just a few day's FTL journey away from Epsilon Eridani which was already selected for future colonization. It held a nearly-human habitable planet similar to Epsilon Eridani with the exception of holding a Pangea-like continent as well as having various rough terrain. It would take a full month to make the necessary temporary enclosed city until a the planet could be fully terraformed for habitation. In the meantime, all saiyans would be spending there time in a isolated area on a nearby UNSC colony.

During that period, more saiyans would be found on the dying world of Sadala along with historical, cultural, religious, and technology information recovered.

UNSC Year 2353

The Bardock System's habitable planet had now been fully colonized by the UEG and the saiyans. The Planet is renamed to Planet Vegeta, where now numbering to 19,200+ saiyans are made their new home in the capital, West City. Named after the surrounding region being similar to the old west of Northern America. UEG had selected many qualified and trustworthy individuals to act as adoptive parents to the saiyans.

Along with this, many governement-elected teachers were hired, schools opened, and human teaches adapted to include learned saiyan education into the current human one for the planet's new alien residents.

UNSC Year 2358

Illness strikes saiyan population, 24 saiyan children die from disease before UNSC scientist find a cure and gives it to saiyan population as a vaccine. The Scientist also find out, saiyans are immune to many human diseases, however, some can still affect them. A UEG doctor does a test and finds out UEG-regulated vaccines and medicines work perfectly on saiyans just as well as humans. Vaccines for human illnesses are given to saiyan population.

UNSC Year 2362

Reach is colonized.

Over the period of the years, more biological studies on the saiyans have revealed some breathtaking differences between them and humanity. Saiyans are much more highly physically developed than their human counterparts, however, it appeared that the mental state acts a bit slower. While slower, it did not mean they couldn't be as intelligent as any human could be.

The most shocking discovery made, is the nature of Ki Energy. This shocking energy source found within the saiyan race held both fascinating and destructive capabilities. With some tests given willingly, the strongest Ki attack could destroy a UNSC-grade Warthog with ease. However, the side effects for using so much Ki left the participates in highly exhausted states that took a few days recovery. It is revealed that training in martial arts, both from saiyan and human cultures, helps increase Ki reserves.

More studies in Ki are being made every day, by the evolution example on how such a concept could come to life is still left unexplained.

Tragedy strikes as a full moon, which only happens every fifty years on Planet Vegeta, triggers a mass transformation on the saiyans. Thankfully, due to the moon's small size and having the UNSC carriers in the system during the time, the transformations were reverted and preparations were made in the future to block the full moon.

The saiyan race is made public to the Human race, naturally, media wants to get as much info as possible. And so UNSC relays all non-classified info about the species, a majority of the public feel pity for the saiyan race, some offer to help in any way possible.

UNSC Year 2369

Saiyan population has a baby boom, population rises from 24,183 to 75,423 after the census is given. UNSC predicts saiyan population to reach the 100,000 by 2395.

It is discovered that saiyan and humans are non-compatible for reproduction. Hopes for Human-Saiyan hybrid children are decreased, but not forgotten.

UNSC 2400

Saiyan population census indicated population to be 168,700. The original home-world of the saiyan race is fully dead. With the last saiyan children who were frozen in a primitive cryo-chambers rescued by UNSC military, the saiyan children, numbering two hundred. Are relocated to Planet Vegeta, where the original saiyan adults adopt the new arrivals and teach them about their new home.

Human and Saiyan Scientist, successfully make artificial Ki energy dubbed Chi. Through not has versatile as it's original counterpart. Chi is soon found to be an alternate way to help heal unstable wounded and ill people to a stable state for proper medical attention. UNSC Medics take recommended Chi classes to learn how to use the Chi system to heal.

UNSC 2420-2460s

The Inner Colony Wars begin and end, Earth Culture is almost torn down, but survives. The Saiyan Planet of Vegeta is mostly unaffected from this War due to most of the majority of the Human race understanding that the saiyan race still faces extinction.

The Saiyan Species Alliance Government (SSA) is formed, though young and much to learn, the saiyans hope to create a nation similar to the United Earth Government.

The Original Saiyan adults start to die of old age, memorial stones are made for them and the UNSC Dragonheart crew.

UNSC 2487

Saiyan Population is that of 555,700, the Saiyan Species Alliance ask their human allies permission to colonize another planet so they would not be stuck on only their homeworld. After a debate between the UEG, UNSC, and SSA. The UNSC agrees, and offers military and spaceship training, in return, the saiyan race joins the UNSC military and gets a planet named Bardock in the Ares System, which is between the Inner and Outer colonies. The planet is named after the current president of the saiyan race.

3,245 saiyans migrate to Planet Bardock.

UNSC 2494-2523

Insurrections begin in outer colonies, the saiyan colony is unaffected as the Insurrections tend to leave the saiyan race alone. Insurrections happen outer-colony wise, but also tend to infiltrate inner-colonies. UNSC Military, backed with saiyan soldiers, quickly manages to win most of the battles.

Dr. Briefs, a freelance scientists, founds out that Chi Energy to be used not only has a healing device but can be used to make shields for ships. Chi Shields are made and installed onto UNSC ships, space battles intensify. MAC cannons are also invented and used in battles.

The saiyan population rises, it totals in 1,059,000 on planet Vegeta, and 9,231 on Planet Bardock and it's still counting.

ONI, seeing how the rebellions could get worse, starts making SPARTAN PROGRAMs, the SPARTAN-Is are a success, but they then abandon the project. Dr. Catherine takes up the program for SPARTAN-IIs, but also an additional program, with the help of new modern sciences, the HYBRID-I Program is made, which combines Human and Saiyan DNA. However in order to do this, the children for the HYBRID program must be 4 years and younger.

The Candidates for the SPARTAN-IIs and HYBRID-I Programs are kidnapped and replaced with flash-clones. Human children are taken for SPARTAN-II programs and saiyan children for HYBRID programs. The most promising are John-117, age 6, for SPARTAN-II program, and Gohan-711, age 3, for HYBRID program.

HYBRID program genetic therapy and alternations are instantly done, only 54 of the 75 candidates survive their DNA change from full saiyan to half saiyan, half human.

And now four years after they were kidnapped, the two programs are scheduled to meet one another in hopes of making team groups of both Programs. Each program looks forward to meeting the other after learning of both's genetic and/or augmented procedures.
