There was a knock on the door, and everyone in the party turned to it. Besides the music still playing, everyone was silent. The door slowly opened to reveal Faragonda and Alex. In the dark like, Alex looked so young, so...not male. He grinned.
"Hey guys! I got lost, but I got to meet the Headmaster and she took me back!" he turned to Faragonda. "Thank you so much!"
"No problem..."Faragonda waved to everyone and started to walk away. Alex looked down at his hands.
"Sorry, I just didn't realize how...BIG this school was."
"AW, IT'S OKAY!" Stella wrapped Alex in a big hug. He wriggled around and she released him. He took a step back.
"You can all go back to your conversations now!" Alex laughed, walking to the balcony. Roxy stood beside him, leaning on her elbows on the railing, looking up at the night sky. Her eyes flickered over to Alex, then away again.
"So, how are you enjoying Red Fountain?"
"It's really nice there," Alex shrugged, smiling his adorable smile. "Everyone is so nice!"
Roxy nodded, still examining the sky as if there were something to see. "I'm new too. So I guess we are alike in that way."
"Yeah." Alex looked down at his hands before glancing sideways at Roxy. "Hey, I hear you're from Earth? Like Bloom?" When Roxy nodded, he grinned. "Wow, that's so cool! What's it like there?"
"You've never been to Earth?" Roxy asked, slightly surprised. Alex shrugged.
"I had never left my kingdom before joining Red Fountain."
"What is your kingdom?"
Alex was silent, just slightly turning away from Roxy. "It's not that big of a deal. What is Earth like?" He went back to his original question.
Roxy chuckled. "Well, it's not as cool as this place, I'll tell you that. The cars aren't as cool, or technology in general in fact. People barely believe in magic anymore," Roxy sighed. "I love it a lot more here. This place...it's like living in a fairy tale. You get your fairies," she motioned to the Winx Club dancing with their boyfriends. "You get the occasional witch or wizard or warlock. You probably even get princesses here!"
Alex jumped. "Princesses? Why do you say princesses? Did you see any princesses?"
Roxy's eyes slid over to Alex suspiciously. "No...I guess I've just always liked the idea of princesses in fairytales. Getting to wear pretty dresses, getting waited on, having your Prince Charming and a luxury life handed to you on a golden platter!" She laughed. "Not having to worry about money or jobs. Fairytales are an escape from the real life, you know?" Roxy looked down at her hands and sighed. "As I grew older, though, I realized I hated fairytale princesses. I always had to work and get money the hard way. Real life wasn't like that. Real life hit me on the head like a brick and I knew...that I had to grow up." Roxy looked over her shoulder at the other fairies. "I knew I always had a connection with animals, but I was too scared to act on it. I was afraid that my head would go back to fairytales. So when Bloom and the others taught me about fairies, I denied it because...well I didn't want to go through the phase of realization again. Realizing that life...it isn't a fairytale. I'm not a princess."
Alex studied Roxy carefully. "I think we have different views on princesses then."
Roxy raised an eyebrow and looked at Alex quizzically. "Oh?"
"Yeah," Alex shrugged. "Princesses are future rulers of a kingdom, they are the government for many kingdoms. They have to be perfect, you know? They aren't only beautiful. They have to study law and geology. That have to be intelligent. They need manners, they need to be able to dance, they can't have a temper," Alex rattled on. "They have to study war formations, they have to be able to fight, they have to be independent." Alex sighed. "So I think the servants are almost necessary, you know? Princesses work so hard they barely have time to feed and clothe themselves. Fairytales don't have a correct view of royalty. It can't be that easy for them." Alex looked up at me and blinked. "At least, that's what I'd assume."
Roxy's shocked face was enough to make Alex chuckled. "Surprised a kid like me can be deep, eh?"
"I just didn't expect that from you," Roxy laughed. "You sure are a strange boy, Alex."
He chuckled and looked up at the sky, the wind ruffling his hair. "I am, aren't I?"
The Specialists have left, and the Winx were cleaning up the room. Roxy tossed away a red plastic cup and leaned against the table. "You know, Alex and I had a very odd conversation."
"Did you?" Bloom asked, barely paying attention, sweeping the floor.
"Yeah. He brought up where he's from."
"He said where he's from?" Musa gasped, being the original one to ask where he came from.
Roxy laughed. "I never said he told me. But he brought it up. Apparently he's never left his kingdom until he enrolled in Red Fountain."
"Really? That's odd. Who would never leave their country?" Stella asked, lifting a trash bag over her shoulder.
"I don't know. But then we started talking about princesses," Roxy shrugged. "That boy is so weird!"
"Princesses? Why on Earth would you two be talking about princesses?" Techna asked.
"It just kinda came up, I guess," Roxy picked up another red plastic cup and poured the rest of its contents out of the window before tossing it in the trash. "He had an oddly serious view on them."
"We have quite a few princesses around here, don't we, Techna?" Flora asked.
"Well, there's Stella for one," Techna pointed at the blonde, who grinned her movie-star grin and waved her royal wave. "But there are a lot more than that."
"Like Princess Kiara from Jesndelle," Layla pointed out. "I love her!"
"Princess Helen and her brother Prince Kai from Gerdarbara," Techna added, typing away on her phone, searching up princesses. The screen flashed and holograms floated above it. The image of Princess Helen holding the hand of young Kai appeared. Techna swiped the image away, and another one appeared. "There's Kiara."
When Techna swiped again, Stella squealed. "Oh, there's me!" The little hologram Stella had on a beautiful yellow gown. "I look so young. I must have only been...what? 15? Maybe?"
Techna swiped again. There was a young girl with giant brown eyes and long, flowing brown hair. She wore a red dress, reaching down to her ankles, with a black belt and a black heart necklace. Her tiara on her head was a beautiful golden with a red ruby circle.
"Well doesn't her dress look very plain for a princess," Stella inquired.
"It's Princess Alexandra of Dévildania, Stella," Techna explained. "Only child. The people there aren't very rich, so it makes sense for her clothes to not be that fancy. They are known for their powerful army."
"Dévildania," Stella shuddered. "What an odd sounding place. Almost scary."
"We studied that in Magic Realms 101," Flora said. "Musa was in my class, remember?"
"Oh yeah," Musa nodded. "That place was like, SUPER evil, but then the royal family got everything in control. Now they're supposed to be very nice. Really small kingdom, though."
Roxy leaned over Techna's shoulder, examining the hologram of Princess Alexandra. "She looks familiar..."
"Meh," Techna shrugged and scrolled on to the next princess. "Princess Feradora of Rosandia."
"Oh she's a very nice lady," Flora said, looking at the hologram of a girl with her blonde hair up in a neat updo and her poofy pink dress outlined with vines and roses. "I like her."
"There are a lot more princesses than I thought," Roxy sat on the top of the table. "I guess they aren't very rare to find, huh?"
