SORRY GUYS. I had a huge microbiology exam that I let sneak up on me and I just had to give studying 100% of my attention. College really sucks sometimes.
Edward had left Bella's house a few hours after her confession, tears still streaking down his face. He wasn't angry with her anymore, not really, but he was furious with himself, and horribly angry at his father. How had his dad kept this a secret for so long? He had know she was dy….no, she wasn't dying. She couldn't. His Bella was invincible. She'd pull through. She would get everything she needed and he'd be here to help her. Why hadn't his dad said anything? He could have just called his son and told him to come home.
Edward's past started flowing through his head, the little things Bella had said throughout the years finally clicking. "because I never know if this birthday could be my last." She'd laid out subtle hints to him throughout the years, whether she meant to or not, but he hadn't caught on at all. He hadn't heard a word she'd said because he was too blindly in love with her. His body felt heavy, the alcohol he had consumed in the last 24 hours overwhelming his senses. His mind was cloudy, his words slurring in his head. He walked into his home, slamming the front door behind him. His urge to be strong quickly failing. He ran into both of his parents in the kitchen, both with red faces. He couldn't even find the strength to yell at his father anymore. He just wanted another drink.
"Edward…" his mother made the move to approach him first, but he avoided her touch, moving quickly toward the liquor cabinet. He wanted whiskey, and a whole fucking lot of it.
"I can't believe this." He sat at the table and took a gulp, evidence of his pain written all over his face. "I can't believe any of it." His mother let out a shuttering sigh, standing behind his chair with both hands on his shoulders. "What are her chances?" he hadn't made eye contact with his father, but he knew that the man had heard him.
"I'm not sure, son." Carlisle let out a deep breath before sitting across the table from Edward. "I haven't met with her for a while, but she was pretty adamant that she would not continue treatment." He reached over, putting a comforting hand on top of Edward's, forcing his child to make eye contact. "She'd young, so she had a better chance, but I'm just not sure."
They all heard the front door open and close, and a dancing Alice entered the room followed by her soon-to-be husband Jasper and Tanya, a scowl on her face/
"Found this one at the spa." Alice jerked her thumb behind her, toward Tanya, and frowned. "Thought I should bring the lost puppy home." Alice joked, flopping down in the only empty chair left at the table, the other two crowding around her. "Whoa, who died?"
"Alice.." her mother began, the look on her face telling Alice to leave well enough alone. But Alice, in pure Alice fashion didn't catch on.
"You're all sitting here like someone kicked your dog! Really! We should be getting excited! I'm getting married tomorrow!"
Edward scoffed audibly, pushing away from the table. "I'll be back later." He swiped his keys off the table and grabbed tightly on Tanya's hand before anyone could say another word.
They stumbled out toward his car, his fingers fumbling to find the right keys. He just wanted to get the two of them back to the hotel. He was fighting a war within himself. He needed some kind of release and was sure that Tanya could help him with the problem.
"Slow down there." Her voice was sweet, quiet. The way she was when only he was around. "I can get us back to the hotel." She had a gleam to her eyes that he couldn't pin point, but at the time he didn't care. She pushed his shoulders hard, his body pressing up against the car. "But I can help you out first."
Her lips connected with his neck, his pulse beating hard. The alcohol flowing through his veins, helping him forget where he was. Her hand rubbing the bulge between his legs. She connected their lips, and he knew they didn't feel exactly right, but they were soft, and he'd take them.
"I'm so sorry." He heard that all too familiar voice behind him, a whisper flowing in the wind. "I didn't mean to interrupt anything."
He pulled his lips away from Tanya's and pushed her slightly back, taking note of the smirk forming across her lips. She had known Bella was there the entire time. His mind wasn't working quick enough to process the entire exchange, but saw the anger in Bella's eyes and the jealousy written clearly all over Tanya's body.
"Bella, wait." He called out to her, but she was walking quickly away from them. And she didn't stop.
