Summary Kikyou mourns what she has lost
When she woke this morning she had dreams. When she looked in the mirror this morning she saw a woman she had never seen before.
A beautiful woman Her face painted with the lipstick that Inuyasha had given her. Seeing that face gave her hope Hope that she was beautiful. Hope that someone would actually love her and live with her as her husband.
How vain those hopes had been. Her master told her never to dream of material things or material happiness. Her duty lay in serving the kami. Her hopes Her dreams were thrown in the trash when she entered the temple Her only escape from her duty lay in death.
She looked at the crushed clam shell full of lipstick. So much like her hopes and dreams It represented hope for a new life free from her duty Free to be an ordinary woman,wife and mother. All that was gone now just as the face in the mirror was gone.
All she had left was duty. A duty to seal the hanyou who had given her hope. She would die,but he would never wake. The jewel he craved would be forever beyond his reach.
She hoped in vain that it was her that he loved. He had crushed her dreams just as he crushed the clam shell. The mirror cracked The beautiful woman was gone. All that remained was the miko there to do her duty to take the Jewel to Hell to protect it from evildoers. Sealing Inuyasha was just an added bonus.
