CH14

"Edward, you cant be serious." Her skin tingled where his hand was, her mind reeling from the small touch. "I'm really not worth all that trouble."

"Bella, what about me?" her ignored her, taking another small step in her direction, and she could swear she could feel the heat from his skin radiating toward her body.

"It's a painful procedure." She shook her head and took a single step back, effectively putting her back against the brick wall of the outside of her house. "You're a new doctor, you have a job, a girlfriend…"

He could tell she was searching for an excuse to get rid of him, searching for something that would make him back up and leave her, to go back to Chicago. He rolled his eyes, placing his hands on either side of her head, caging her in. "Fuck Chicago, fuck work, I can find a new job here. And no woman, now or ever, will be more important to me than you. I'm not with Tanya. I sent her home. I want to be here with you." Her face was getting closer and closer to his, her tongue darting out to wet her lips. She wanted his lips against hers, wanted to know if he tasted the same, or moved the same way. His eyes flashed down to her lips when he caught the movement of her tongue and his chest tightened. He too wondered about her. He wanted to feel her against him, wanted to hear the happy sounds she used to make. They were barely a breath apart, his nose lightly brushing her cheek as he moved closer, static sparks running between their bodies. "What about me, Bella?"

"I don't think it's a good idea." She closed her eyes, her heart beating so loudly she was sure he could hear it. "I don't think this is a good idea."

Ignoring her once again, he let his eyes flutter closed the second before he knew their lips would meet. And when he pushed forward, his lips were met with nothing but air. She had come to her senses when those beautiful emerald eyes were no longer staring into hers and ducked beneath his arms. His head fell and he let out a humorless laugh, his eyes still remaining closed. A small smile was spread across his lips, but she could tell he wasn't even close to happy. It was forced.

"Do you want to be alone, Bella?" he didn't look at her as he spoke, knowing that if he did, he wouldn't say a single thing that he wanted to. He would never get anything out of his mouth. "Do you want to die alone?" He felt the pang in his chest, his heart tightening up as soon as the words left his mouth. "Because you will if you keep pushing everyone away." He dropped his hands and turned back toward the street, leaving her there, tears running down her face, completely confused.
