Author's Note: It still counts as July 11th; I don't care what you guys say. Oops, I'm 20 minutes late. It still counts.
Day One-Hundred Twenty-Five: Ours by Taylor Swift
She pushed the button to call an elevator. She noticed someone walk up beside her and wait as well. A small smile appeared on her face when she saw who it was out of the corner of her eye.
People inside the elevator spilled out and the two of them got on the elevator. She was about to say something, but three more people walked into the elevator. She had pressed her floor number (thirty-three) and he pressed his (thirty). The red-haired woman on her iPhone pressed floor number forty, while the man beside her pressed floor twenty-seven. The young intern standing next to the buttons pressed floor number fifteen.
With the only noise filling the elevator being the woman typing on her iPhone, she suddenly wished she had walked the thirty three flights up to her office. At least she'd be getting a good cardio workout.
She wished she could just laugh at them with him, but as absorbed as the woman was with her phone, she knew they'd all turn around to glare. The intern kept bopping her head to the cheesy elevator music, making her want to laugh.
Once the mousy intern and the man exited, Spencer looked over at him and gave him a small, flirty smile. She noticed the redhead look up from her phone and give them a slight eye roll. It made her a bit annoyed, considering she didn't know them at all and had nothing better to do but judge them, but realized that it had no effect on the way she felt about him.
"So there's a new girl I have to show around at the office. She's taking my spot now that I got the promotion," Toby said as they rode the elevator down to the lobby of the office building. When they got the opportunity to do so, they went out for lunch together. Today was also one of those rare occurrences that the elevator was also empty. "And we know her. You'll never guess who it is," he insisted.
She shrugged. She really had no clue.
"It's Alison."
She winced when she heard that name. Alison was his ex-girlfriend. Well, one of them. They had dated back in college, where Toby and Spencer first met. In fact, they were together when Spencer met him. Spencer and Alison were never fond of each other and Alison loved to accuse Toby of cheating on her with Spencer, which drove them both insane.
"Hey, Spencer, don't worry about it," he insisted. "I'm with someone else now and I have no intentions of screwing that up."
She smiled. She was about to kiss him, when the doors opened up. In walked the devil herself—Alison.
"Oh my God! Spencer?" Alison inquired dramatically. She certainly hadn't changed; she was just as fake as ever.
"Alison!" Spencer exclaimed, feigning excitement.
"It's so funny that I ran into you here. I work here now," she announced while fishing out a light pink lip gloss from her bag. In the reflection in the elevator door, she reapplied her lip gloss. "I'm taking over Toby's position. Isn't it so funny that the three of us ended up working here? Maybe it'll be just like college, but Toby and I won't be dating!" she suggested.
Spencer put on a fake smile and nodded. The doors soon opened up to the lobby and Alison walked out just as quickly as she had walked in.
"That girl is evil," Spencer insisted as she and Toby walked out of the elevator.
"Spence, calm down. She's just trying to get in your head because she's jealous. You're beautiful and successful and happy…and I heard that your boyfriend is pretty cool, too…" he trailed off with a smile growing on his face.
She smiled. "You're right. You're mine now. She should be jealous of me," she replied.
She grabbed his hand, which was the most PDA they could have in this professional place. His hands were callused and rough against her smooth ones, but she couldn't ignore how her hand fit perfectly in his. They were more hesitant while hers were steady and sure. They were made for each other.
"Toby, what are you doing here?"
"I figured that since you can't leave early tonight and the office is empty anyway, I could bring dinner to you," he insisted.
She shook her head before closing the doors to her office. Thankfully, she hadn't opted for the sleek, modern look that included clear glass walls and doors. She was a bit more old fashioned and preferred the privacy of opaque walls and doors. "If someone hears us or finds out you're here right now, you're going to get in trouble. And if my boss finds out about this, I'm going to be in so much trouble," she said. She murmured something else, but was cut off by his lips.
"Spence, can't we just enjoy this? We've had to deal with too much lately. Let's just have fun," he suggested. "Live life on the edge a little bit."
He was right. Between Alison continuing to be a bitch and complications when it came to telling her family about their relationship, things hadn't been all smiles and flowers with their relationship.
"I think I have work to do," she said after kissing him a few times. "Why are you so completely irresistible and distracting?"
"Isn't the answer in the question?"
She narrowed her eyes, trying to figure him out. "I think you're the riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma Churchill was talking about," she commented.
"But you love me anyway," he reminded her.
She sighed. "Yeah, I do."
They were silent for a moment. "You can't tell me you've never wanted to do anything at work," he whispered finally.
"The thought crossed my mind a few times," she revealed after a pregnant pause. A moment later, she had kissed him. A few heated kisses later, she slid her hand under his shirt. She took a moment to look at the tattoo on his hip. She remembered how much her father hated that tattoo and the mere thought of any tattoo. He'd be appalled to learn his own daughter had one in a very…covert spot on her body.
It didn't matter to her. She didn't care what anyone thought about their relationship. It wasn't theirs to judge. It was hers and Toby's relationship. They were the only two involved. And they were in love. That was all that really mattered to her.
I've just spent like half an hour trying to revise ONE chapter (I'm a beta) and I'm only HALFWAY done with it. And then my computer threatened to die. I made a dash for the charger; I was killing someone before I lost all my progress.
Sarah:Oh, no, that's not what I meant. I said, thanks for your opinion, but that sounded weird because everyone has an opinion, so I said, "err...your feedback". I was just amending what I was saying. I like feedback. It's okay; I'm definitely dumber than you.
sarahschneider2012:The song is great and The Civil Wars are great. You should most definitely check them out. But they're a little more alternative country/folk, so let that be a warning. It's still a great song.
tobyequalshottness:Hmm...yes. That's why that fic is fun to work with. I was glad you liked it!
MilaMizz:Thanks and agreed. And...um...okay...I guess...wait...what were we talking about in the first place? And I get your point, but it's just so...annoying at this point because the writers constantly try to condone the ship and basically shove it down our throats (mainly, and this is in my opinion, by giving Aria absolutely no story lines not involving Ezra in some way). It also kind of annoys me that they'll show a scene like the Ezria one on Tuesday, but not show something with two girls. That just bothers me because it's like...alright...there's nothing wrong between a girl and a girl if you can show a guy and a girl, but suddenly, it's fine to show a 17 year old STUDENT and a 24 year old (or something like that) TEACHER having sex. It just bothers me. But more than anything, the fans bother me, because some of them just like to shove every other ship under the bus (and I say SOME of them because SOME of them [like you] are totally cool about it and don't care) and completely WON'T acknowledge that Ezra is an ephebophile and it's a little creepy how he stalked them for the sake of a book. In fact, that was just what crossed the line for me. I honestly didn't really care that much for Ezria itself before, it was just the fans, but now that they introduced his relationship with Alison and the whole idea that he knew who she was and how old she was when he hooked up with her, it's totally wrong and it's pretty disgusting. That entire fanfic is totally in Hanna's POV (I've been told my writing for Hanna is pretty good, which is why I chose to do that). And I think the ships are Haleb/Spoby and maybe some Jaria (sorry, I really just dislike Ezra and I really like Jason, plus, it's kind of fitting for that fanfic). But mostly Spoby. And I guess Tali (Toby/Alison), but nobody likes them, anyway.
This next snippet is from "And So It Begins Again", which is canon to either 3x24 or 4x12 (haven't decided):
"They're not going to come back to hurt us, Hanna."
"You don't know that, Spencer!" Hanna whisper-exclaimed.
"But I know that if anyone touches a single hair on one of my kids' heads, I'll kill them with my bare hands and never question it." Spencer looked at Hanna, who now was wearing an expression of worry on her face. "Wouldn't you do the same exact thing if someone threatened one of your children?" she asked.
Hanna looked up at Spencer. She nodded.
"If anything happens to any of our children, I'll fight to the death. Hanna, you're my sister, and I'd do anything for you," Spencer reminded her.
Hanna nodded and hugged Spencer. "Spence, it's been too long without you," she cried.
Spencer rubbed Hanna's back, sensing something was wrong here. "What happened?"
Hanna gulped. "Spence, there's something you should know. I'm afraid that it's starting again."
Spencer felt her heart drop a little and a pit at the bottom of her stomach. She was sickened. Could this really be happening again?
Alison is actually dead in this one and it's not just about the liars' kids, it's about the liars, too. Just in case you were curious.
The next one-shot is Run Away by Megan and Liz. I don't love it, but let's see what happens. Oh, and tomorrow's snippet is on "How to Be a Heartbreaker", which had the most interest when I asked you guys about it. -Kayson
