Author's Note: This one is a little...sadder. Not death, sadder, just...sadder.
Day One-Hundred Thirty: Better In Time by Leona Lewis
It had been an especially long winter break explaining why his girlfriend—well, now ex-girlfriend—was not with him and that they had broken up. He was pretty upset and mopey about it all during the holidays, so when he got back and Caleb started to help him feel better, he truly did feel a bit better.
But all it really took was one stupid book to bring back a surge of memories and make him feel rather depressed again.
The Catcher in the Rye.
He gingerly ran his fingers down the spine of the book. It was barely cracked. The poor book was just sitting there, waiting for someone to check it out. But sadly, nobody cared about Holden Caulfield and his pessimistic, somewhat-pragmatic thoughts and ideas.
No, he couldn't forget how they bonded over that book. He couldn't forget how Spencer pegged him as Holden Caulfield…at first glance. After several lengthy, deep conversations, her impression of him seemed to have changed.
Thinking he heard a voice, he turned around. But nobody was there. Reluctantly, he took the book off of the shelf. He wondered if he deserved it. Maybe. She always wanted to spend more time with him. But he didn't give her that. So she went and found somebody else.
So maybe he did deserve it. She apologized, but even if it wasn't physically cheating on him, it was mentally and emotionally. She promised him that she really did love him, but she wasn't in love with him. At least, not anymore.
Caleb told him to move on. But he didn't know where to start. And he knew it was easier said than done; he knew if Caleb lost Hanna tomorrow, he wouldn't know how to deal with it.
And he really didn't know how to deal with it. He didn't know how he could live, not necessarily because he lost her, but because of this pain he couldn't cope with. Right now, he had a huge gash on his heart that was slowly trying to heal. And it still stung.
He took the book with him. Every page of this book was going to remind him of her. But he was going to have to learn to deal with it.
"What did you get from the library?" Caleb asked, as though the word was absinthe on his tongue. "The Bible? So you could pray?"
Maybe he would've found that funny a month ago. But he didn't want to laugh.
"Jeez, you need to get out of this funk. You're going to be fine."
He knew Caleb well enough to know that something else was coming. "Caleb..." He began cautiously.
"Alright, I got you this date with a girl in my Literature class. Her name is Kimberly. She's cute," he said.
"Caleb—"
"You need to just go on a date. Even if it leads nowhere. There are other girls out there," he insisted. "I already know that Spencer was your everything, but you need to realize that she's moved on. You should, too. You deserve it. You really do. You're the best guy I've ever met. If she can't see her, then…that's her fault and she's blind."
Even though he didn't want to give into his annoying friend, he knew Caleb was probably right. He had to let her go. He knew it. He needed to be free.
He looked down at the book. It was a good book. It would always be a reminder of that relationship.
But it didn't have to be. He could choose to enjoy the book and remove the link between it and the doomed relationship. It was not going to be easy, but this was how his life should be. Caleb was right; he deserved to smile.
"Alright. I'll go on the date."
Maybe he'd have an awesome time on the date. Maybe this girl would be cute and funny and amazing in every way. Maybe everything would go wrong and the girl would be horrible. Maybe he thought of Spencer all through the date.
But he was going to be okay, even if he didn't move on that very night. He knew one simple truth: everything gets better when given the chance to do so.
Sarah: Some people love Pizza Hut and others hate it. personally, I love it because I love the breadsticks and their pizza is super-cheesy and I LOVE mozzarella cheese. I legit like three types of cheese (mozzarella, queso fresco, and sometimes American) and I love mozzarella cheese on pizza. But if you like sauce, then you probably wouldn't like it as much since they don't use much sauce. And I'll update today just for you, Sarah. If you ever come to New York we can get pizza hut and Starbucks. It sounds like a plan. Do they have Pizza Huts in Canada? When I went (and I just went around Niagara Falls), they really only had Fridays and like fifty Starbucks and the rest was all local stuff. Really, I counted the Starbucks there and there were at least thirteen or fourteen just around where we stayed (and my hotel had one, too).
LittleBittyAbby:I haven't watched Titanic in its entirety, but I really hate Rose, and being as she's the main character, I guess that means I don't like most of the story. I've seen some Nicholas Sparks movies a couple of times. I watch Romantic Comedies when I go to the movies with my friends or my mom, and they're pretty sappy, but they're not so melodramatic. I don't like the melodramatic ones that are supposed to make you cry. They're usually really annoying and cliché.
AL3110:I'm not smoking hydroponic weed, though ;P And that reminds me of a fanfic I read today...and yeah, s/he's from Brooklyn. I'm bringing you to Starbucks so I can make you feel better (and feel whiter than you). I'll love you forever. I'll love you forever. I'm sorry. I quote Lana and Marina when I'm happy and don't know what to say. That's really sweet :) And good luck with the London guys.
MilaMizz:Handora is the BEST. Yesterday I only got 5 hours of sleep and I didn't realize how awful I looked until I saw myself in the mirror at night, getting ready for bed. It was pretty awful. Good for you. Sleep is a good thing.
tobyequalshottness: Glad you liked it! I hope that you liked this one, too!
I really love The Catcher in the Rye. You guys should read it (if you haven't already).
I'm updating Stay Stay Stay today, so please check that out (if you haven't already, but I think that that story is more popular than this one).
The next one-shot is I Love You by Avril Lavigne. I think it'll be...interesting. Maybe. -Kayson
