"Bella, let me take you on a real date." Edward held her hand tightly in the car; they had just left the hospital after a check up. "I want to show you off."

Bella cringed inwardly, fighting the urge to pull her hand away. "Edward, I'm not some trophy to show off." She heard him huff from the drivers side of the car. "Plus, look at me. I'm not something someone who looks like you would want to show off." She looked down at herself, pulling the sleeve of her too big sweater up to cover her shoulder, wondering how someone like him could even stand looking at her.

"I am looking at you, Bella, and I see you for who you really are, whether or not you see it." He was fuming on the inside, thinking of the people who made her this way, but he wouldn't show it. To him, she was beautiful. Her hair was fuller now, shorter than they were both used to, but it was thick again, shining in the rare sunlight. Her skin had brightened, a few freckles forming over her nose. But her eyes weren't happy, and that was the only thing he was looking to change. "You're beautiful."

She smiled slightly, turning her head to look out the window so he wouldn't notice, but he already had, and that smile made his day.

"So Jasper just told me we should have bachelor and bachelorette parties this time around!" Alice was practically screaming through the phone, and Bella could sense the excitement. "You hear me Bel? A party! Dedicated to me! And you can be there!"

"Gosh, Al, that sounds great." But it wouldn't be great. This would be a huge event, as any event Alice planned. It would be built up and up and up and Bella was sure she would inadvertently do something to ruin it. She always finds a way to ruin everything.

"Great? Don't you mean AMAZING? Jasper said he and the guys were leaving in a few days! Think of all the time we'll have together!" Bella could tell Alice was dancing around her room, she could picture her best friend was over the moon excited about this, but fear was creeping into her gut. Why hadn't Edward mentioned this to her? Why hadn't he said they were leaving? Why hadn't he told her he was leaving? Was he over her? Had he finally come to his senses? "Hello? Bella? Are you listening to me?" Alice's voice pulled Bella out of her thoughts.

"Yeah, Al, I'm here. I was just thinking about how great this party and this wedding is going to be. I can't wait to be able to plan it with you." And while Bella was saying these things just to make her friend happy, she wasn't completely lying. Planning a wedding with Alice was something the two had talked about when they were younger, something they talked about before the heart break, the pain, before everyone knew. It felt normal, natural. It felt like she had something to look forward to, and she hadn't felt that way in a long time.

"Good! I heard you and Edward are going on a date tonight! I'm coming over to pick out what you're going to wear. I'll be there in 15." And with that Alice hung up and all Bella could do was sigh. This was going to be a long night.
