Dee.
After seeing Astro so brutally beaten, I'll admit, I felt a little anxious.
Lucian glanced at me with a creepy grin on his face, raising his eyebrows. "Aaron has certainly earned his title, hasn't he?" He asked.
I reached up and tightened my ponytail. "Shut up, asshole." A little harsh, but I was raised not to show fear. "Aren't you the guy that my sister Tess was partnered with?"
He smiled again, closing his eyes and revealing very irritating dimples. "Yes, I was," He answered. "Very nice girl. I believe she mentioned you once or twice. Amy, was it?"
"Dee," I grumbled irritatedly. "It's Dee. Jesus tapdancing Christ, and I thought you looked smart."
Lucian winced at my remark. "Ah..." He opened his eyes again, blushing. "Well, I actually am quite smart...mostly book smarts, mind you."
I didn't bother responding to him after that. I mostly didn't want to bother dealing with him; I'm easily irritated.
Aaron walked back into the waiting room, a smug smirk on his face. I made direct eye contact with him.
"I am going to wipe the floor with your ass, Wilkerson," I growled at him. "You hear me?"
He raised his blonde eyebrows at me. "Oh?"
"I'm the only one allowed to beat Amber in a battle!" I told him. "And wipe that smug grin off your face, you look like an enormous douche!"
"Are you really serious, kid?" Aaron chuckled. I wanted to hit him right then, break his glasses and maybe even his nose. "Lucian, are you hearing this girl?"
"Don't patronize me!" I barked. "My Snorunt is gonna destroy you!"
Later...
In the second battle round, I was matched up against Lucian. He smirked at me from across the battlefield, but I looked away.
"Don't be intimidated, Snorunt!" Lucian had sent out a Mime Jr. to battle, which seemed like a weird choice to me, thinking of his powerful Kadabra.
I knew that, in the crowd, Riley and Cynthia were probably each watching, and maybe Amber was even still there. I wanted to give my friends a good show.
Slowly out of line,
And drifting closer in your sight.
"And...begin!" Marian gave us the okay to start.
"Snorunt, use Headbutt!" I ordered. "Rush at 'im!"
So play it out,
I'm wide awake.
Snorunt broke out in a bit of a toddling run, sticking his pointed head out. Mime Jr. stood on tiptoes, piroetting adorably away from Snorunt as he passed by.
Lucian smirked, and I saw venom in his eyes. "Mime Jr., use Doubleslap."
It's a scene
About me.
As Mime Jr. turned on Snorunt and Snorunt turned around, I hear the sound of me losing points. I ground my teeth.
"Don't let it touch you, Snorunt!" I warned. "Evade it!"
There's something
In your way.
Snorunt hopped away as Mime Jr. tried smacking him, landing on his side. Snorunt scrambled back to his feet.
"Confusion!" Lucian declared, like it was a statement from God.
And now someone
Is gonna pay.
Mime Jr. held its hands to its head, closing its eyes and humming. It glowed pink, and a pink wave of energy escaped it, striking at Snorunt.
"Snoo-ooo!" Snorunt howled in pain, grasping at his head.
And, if you can't get what you want,
It's all because of me.
"Attack Mime Jr., Snorunt!" I urged my pokemon. "C'mon, you can do it!"
Snorunt focused again, shaking the attack off. "Snow!" He charged at Mime Jr. with the ferocity of a Tauros.
Now dance, bastards, dance!
I never had a chance.
"Beautiful comeback on Snorunt's part!" Lee barked into his mike at the judge's table. Lucian began losing points.
Lucian winced at the sudden change. "Stay away from Snorunt, Mime Jr.!" He warned, "And use Psybeam!"
It was really only you.
It was really only you.
Snorunt headbutted Mime Jr. hard, sending the small pokemon flying. It landed on its feet, glaring at Snorunt.
"Mime!" It warbled, throwing a rainbow-colored beam at Snorunt in anger.
And now, you'll
Lead the way.
"Sno, snorunt!" Snorunt tumbled out of the way efficiently, and I felt so proud of him.
"Now, use Bite!"
Shown the
Light of day.
Snorunt stood and lunged at Mime Jr., who piroetted away again. I lost more points.
I glanced at the scoreboard; Lucian still had half his points, but I was only at 2/3. He could still pull ahead easily.
Nice work
You did.
"Snorunt, use Powder Snow at Mime Jr.'s feet!" It was a crazy idea, but there had been crazier.
Snorunt breathed out a powdery blizzard at the ground at Mime Jr.'s feet. Not a strong attack at all, but the ground froze over enough to make Mime Jr. slip and fall.
You're gonna
Go far, kid.
"Now's your chance!" I nearly shrieked. "Bite Mime Jr., Snorunt! Take it home for Mama!"
"Sno!" Snorunt picked Mime Jr. up and tossed it in the air, catching his feet in his mouth. Snorunt swung Mime Jr. by the feet for a moment, then tossed him away like a little doll.
Mime Jr. landed hard on the ground, fainting. "Miiiime..."
The crowd fell silent for a second. Marian announced, "Mime Jr.'s unable to battle! The winner is Dee and her Snorunt!"
Then, I swer to God, every person went nuts cheering. I thought I spotted Riley for a second, but the hair was too long.
I placed my hand over my heart; it was racing, beating hard and fast.
One step closer to that green-haired bastard. Snorunt toddled over to me, gleeful at his win.
"Snoooo!" He bubbled happily at me, reaching up to be held. I spoiled him rotten, I know.
I picked him up, grinning ear to ear. "You did it, Snorunt! You won, buddy!"
On the other side of the field, Lucian sighed, returning his Mime Jr. to the pokeball. A comically oversized sweatdrop fell from his temple.
"...I shouldn't have used a pokemon as young as Mime Jr. for a battle round," He grumbled unhappily to himself.
AOF: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid is such a great song for Dee. If you've never heard, look it up; it's by The Offspring.
AOF: On a different note, do any of you attentive readers remember when Lucian obtained Mime Jr.? It was mentioned quite a few chapters ago.
