Author's Note: IDEK what happened here, guys. Just...I don't know.
Day One-Hundred Forty-Two: Umbrella by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z
"Toby?" Spencer looked up from her book. It was the middle of the summer and she loved reading on her balcony. She put the bookmark in her book. "I thought you were in Philadelphia. I thought you had a concert tonight!" she exclaimed.
"I did. As soon as it was over, I snuck over to see you," he told her.
She smiled. Sometimes it didn't feel real. She had a famous boyfriend. Her. Of all people. It wasn't Hanna or Alison or even Aria.
"How long do you have with me?" she inquired as she helped him over the railing.
"I have tonight only. Then, I'm going to New York," he explained. "I have until eight tomorrow."
She pouted. "I wish you had more time…"
"You could always come and visit me in New York…maybe…I could serenade you?" he inquired teasingly.
Spencer felt a blush rising to her cheeks. "As much as I'd love that, I think our secret would be out, then. And I can't even begin to imagine the amount of death threats I'd get if we came out to everyone as a couple," she reminded him.
Toby sighed. "Sometimes, I hate my life."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, poor you. You get to go all over the world and play sold out shows with screaming fans practically throwing themselves at you. I'd hate to have your life."
"Maybe you're right. I do have a pretty hot girlfriend."
She smiled before he pulled her in for a kiss. "Nobody followed you here?" she inquired as she pulled away.
He shook his head before pulling her back in. As much as she wanted to enjoy it, she was pretty upset that this was the last night she'd get to see him.
They were worlds apart. He was certainly noveau riche, self-made, and contemporary in every way. She came from old money. She would never have to worry about money, much like him, but she never had to work a day in her life and she'd be set, financially. They were like fire and water. He was a somebody and she was nobody.
She tried to push those thoughts out of her head. She thought of how lucky she was. It wasn't because of all the fancy, expensive, exquisite things that he had at his disposal. None of that mattered in the dark, where they had to stay. It was the only place where they could meet and act like themselves around each other. She couldn't even see him in the light of day. Hanna and Alison were always raving about him because they didn't know the truth. She had to pretend that she hated his persona in order to make it work.
"When is the next time I can see you? After tonight?"
He thought for a moment. "Tomorrow, I'll be in New York. I'll be in New York for tomorrow and overmorrow—"
"Overmorrow?"
"I learned that word from my gorgeous girlfriend."
She blushed. She hated how she always got those stupid butterflies around him. "I'm glad that you haven't been infected by that achromatic city they call L.A."
"Speaking of L.A.," he continued, "after New York, I'm going to L.A. I'm staying there…indefinitely."
She frowned when she heard that. "You don't know when you're coming back?"
He sighed. "My manager told me that she wants to negotiate some deal between me and another artist on the same label. They think that having me featured in a song would help start her career."
"Her?" she inquired. She was probably some tall, thin, gorgeous blonde with a really great tan. How could she compete with that?
"Is someone jealous?" he asked.
"N…no."
He held her closer to him. "Good. Because you already have my heart, even if I'm three thousand miles away. You're all I need and all I want and…the miles don't matter to me if they don't matter to you."
She sighed. "I'd be lying if I said that I was totally okay with this arrangement, but…you're coming back eventually, right?"
He nodded. "Yeah. I wouldn't trade you in for everything L.A. has to offer. I love you."
Spencer smiled. "I love you, too."
Spencer looked outside her rainy window. "Is it raining in L.A.?" she asked as she sat by the windowsill.
"No. Are you sitting in front of the window? Is there thunder and lightning?"
She sighed dramatically. "No, Dad. I'm not going to get electrocuted. There's no lightning." There was comfortable silence between them. "How are you?"
"Um…I've been better."
"Toby?" she asked. "What happened?"
"Nothing…"
"Toby."
"I just…I have writer's block. I can't write anything. It's frustrating me." She could practically hear him pouting on the other end of the line.
"Did you make a thought tree?"
"Spencer—"
"Toby, I know that kindergarteners do it, but remember the last time you used one? You wrote three songs and one of them went on to be the #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. And it was on the list for twenty-one weeks," she reminded him.
He sighed. "Yeah, you're right." She smiled. "What would I do without you?"
"Do you know when you're coming home yet?" she asked.
"No, Spence. I'm sorry."
She nodded slightly in response. She pressed her head against the window. "I guess I'll be here, waiting for you."
After a few minutes, it started to monsoon. "I guess if I decide to go out today, I'll have to take a boat," she informed him.
She could hear him smiling. "It's sunny here. I kind of wish it was raining so I could say something awfully cheesy right about now."
She grinned. "That's okay. Save it for when you're here. You can share my umbrella and we could wear those ridiculous overcoats so nobody will realize that it's you," she told him.
"I love you so much," he told her with a small laugh.
"I love you, too."
Sarah: Thank yewwww :) I hope you liked that chapter of SSS and this very mediocre one-shot.
MilaMizz:There was rain in this one? Did you like this one? Please say yes! If I got a male cat, I'd name him Mowgli. Totally. Ugh, I hate that. Your old studio had no AC? My old studio was really small and they moved to a building right near my house (they were only like a block away from their current location, but now it's literally a block away from my house. It's so close).
AL3110:When is green ever boring? Brown is boring. So boring. Like everyone has brown eyes. Boring. Lol my voice is the most annoying sound in the world. Can we Skype? When? Cuando? Hooray. Yo estoy muy feliz. :)
The next one-shot will be Rumour Has It by Adele and I'm wondering whether I should make Toby the person Spencer's leaving the guy she's dating for, or if he should be the one she's leaving. Thoughts?
Oh, and please tell me your thoughts on the latest episode of PLL! Even though I have like three readers and they've all told me what they thought! -Kayson
