Chapter 4

Dark clouds covered the night sky over Station Square as it was busy as ever even in the night, but 30 miles from the city was a medium sized building on top of a hill. There was a sign that said EGG LABS. Two figures suddenly came running out of the woods jumping over an electric fence and running up along the buildings wall and onto the roof.

"I still can't believe egghead built his own company" mumbled Sonic.

"So how are we getting in from here?" he asked looking around the roof.

"There" said Shadow pointing to a skylight window over in the middle of the roof.

The two hedgehogs walked over and Shadow tore the lock off the window and opened it. They then jumped down and landed softly as they could into a dark computer room. Shadow walked over to a large keyboard and screen and started searching its files.

"This won't take long"

As Shadow was doing that Sonic looked around the room and his eyes stopped on a door with a lock on it. Growing curies he walked over to it and looked in the small window. Inside he saw a big metal box on what looked like an operating table.

"Hey Shadow come here" Sonic called softly.

Shadow groaned and didn't want to be distracted with whatever Sonic wanted him to see, but he was having no luck finding any information he was searching for. He walked over to the door Sonic was pointing to, Shadow looked in the window and saw the box. Shadow thought for a moment then broke the lock and walked inside with Sonic following him. They each stood on opposite sides of the table. Sonic looked at Shadow who nodded to him. Sonic took the metal lid off the box and the thing that was inside shocked both of the hedgehogs. Inside laid the shredded parts of Metal Sonic.

"They must think I did this with my spines" said Sonic looking down at his broken up robot copy.

Shadow picked up a part and looked over it.

"You couldn't have even your spines aren't sharp enough to cut the metal he is made of. He then looked at Sonic.

"They aren't are they?"

The blue blur slowly shook his head.

Suddenly two human guards burst through the door when they saw who they were facing they pointed the guns at the black and blue hedgehog. Shadow was about to use chaos spear on them but Sonic grabbed his hand.

"No this way" he then sped past the guards while pulling Shadow and zoomed up some stairs and down a few hallways.

Sonic glanced behind him.

"Now I really do look like a criminal"

"It's done wonders for me" said Shadow.

"Well how are we going to get the data on the meteor now?" asked Sonic as he turned a right into another hallway.

"There is one other possibility..." said Shadow.

Suddenly there was a loud screaming sound, it was so loud and powerful that Shadow and Sonic were sent flying through the wall and landed on the pavement outside. Sonic slowly stood up and looked around, they were in the front of the lab and near them was a large fountain. Sonic then heard foot steps behind him. He turned around and frowned when he saw Thrash the Tasmanian Devil walking out of the hole in the wall that Sonic and Shadow made from being blasted.

"I thought that crying sounded familiar" said Sonic grinning at him.

Thrash growled and leaped towards Sonic, but Sonic dodged him and ran off with the purple devil behind him. Shadow woke up and lifted his head and saw Lighting Lynx, Predator Hawk, Fiona Fox and Sergeant Simian.

"Ok where is your friend?" asked Lighting pointing at him.

"Yeah the one who is worth a billon bucks" said Fiona as her and Predator Hawk got in a fighting stance. Shadow stood on his feet and just glared at them.

"You wanna play it that way?" asked Fiona. "Fine"

She then pulled out a gun and fired it at Shadow, an ice beam shot out of the gun but Shadow jumped out of the way. Fiona smiled and ran after him with her comrades following her. Fiona fired at Shadow again but the black hedgehog jumped in the air and did a flip over the fountain, as he was in the air Fiona fired once more but Shadow used chaos spear on the water and it rose up in the air and blocked the ice ray, which in turn turned the wave of water into an ice wall. The attackers frowned and started running around the fountain. Shadow looked around for Sonic but didn't see him. Simian came around the fountain and threw a punch at him. Shadow blocked it and did back flips to dodge the ice beams Fiona was shooting at him.

In the woods Sonic was running around Thrash who he managed to tire out. Sonic then slid under Thrash and kicked him hard in the back making him crash through three trees knocking him out. Sonic smiled and then sped off back to the lab to find Shadow.

Shadow was dogging punches from Lighting Lynx and ice beams from Fiona. But as Shadow jumped in the air she managed to freeze his waist down to his legs. As they got near him a blue blur zoomed up to them, as it passed them they were blown away and they hit the building wall with such force it knocked them all out. Sonic stopped in front of Shadow and grinned. Shadow broke out of the ice and frowned at Sonic.

"I didn't need your help".

"Sure you didn't" said Sonic rolling his eyes and smiled.

Suddenly they heard footsteps.

"More" said Sonic frowning.

"Everyone wants that reward" said Shadow.

They then saw two figures walking up to them it was Bark the Polar Bear and Drago Wolf. Drago Wolf quickly lunged at Sonic and the two went crashing into the building. As Shadow watched it happen Bark made his move and grabbed Shadow and smashed him on the ground.

When Sonic and Drago stopped tumbling the white wolf punched Sonic in the face and then kicked him across the ground, Drago smiled evilly and leaped after him.

Bark held up Shadow in the air by the neck, the black hedgehog struggled and tried to break free.

"Hah some Ultimate life form you are, let's see how long you can hold your breath".

Bark then carried Shadow over to the fountain and shoved him underwater and held him there.

Sonic went to punch Drago but the wolf did a lower punch to his chest and knocked Sonic into a wall. Drago then punched Sonic through the wall. When the smoke cleared Drago walked through the hole and towards a bruised up hedgehog on the ground.

Shadow was being held underwater struggling to break free from Bark. After a couple of minutes of struggling Bark felt Shadow's body go limp.

"There that wasn't so hard; I don't see why people make a big deal of how strong you are".

Bark lifted him out of the water and held his face towards him. Shadow then opened his eyes and slammed his head into Barks making him drop the black hedgehog. Bark was confused but before he could do anything Shadow punched him in the jaw and then a hard kick to the stomach.

Sonic was on his knees, his back facing Drago. Drago went to punch him but Sonic quickly turned around a caught his fist.

"What do you need with money Drago?" asked Sonic. "You already have tons of it".

Draco struggled to push Sonic back but instead Sonic slammed into him.

Shadow brought both of his fits down on Barks shoulders and the polar bear fell backwards into the water and passed out. Shadow was suddenly knocked to the side. He turned around and saw Anti Sally smiling at him.

Sonic kept punching Drago, making him stumble backwards.

"So went back to working for Eggman" growled Sonic as he punched Drago harder.

"Well I'm sick!" Sonic quickened his punches.

"Of Dr Eggman!" He gave one final punch and Drago fell backwards, tumbled and fainted where he landed.

Anti-Sally did a front flip over to Shadow and when she landed both her feet kicked him backwards. Shadow stumbled but stayed standing. He blocked some chops and kicks from Anti Sally using one hand. As she went to jab him in the chest Shadow grabbed her arm and then delivered a hard punch to her lower jaw and she passed out when hitting the ground. Sonic then ran up and stopped in front of Shadow.

"Drago wasn't his usual talkative self".

"And Bark was actual talking and gloating" said Shadow.

Sonic rubbed his chin.

"Think their being mined controlled?" he asked.

Shadow looked up and noticed a figure on the roof. He looked at Sonic and pointed to the roof. Sonic turned and looked up and saw Mammoth Mogul.

"Should have figured it was him" said Sonic. He was about to run up and attack him. but Shadow used chaos spear on the ledge Mogul was standing on and the mammoth came crashing down to the ground. Sonic gave him a thumbs up. Suddenly they saw a huge group of villains coming out of the forest. They all had a mean look on their facieses and were looking ready to fight.

"I suppose it's useless to tell you to leave" said Shadow glancing at the cobalt hedgehog.

Sonic looked at Shadow then back at the group of villains.

"I wouldn't miss this for anything" Sonic said with a smile and confident look on his face.

"Your funeral" replied Shadow.

"Already had one"

The villains then charged at them, Sonic and Shadow bolted in different directions. Sonic went into a spin and hit three enemies. Shadow dodged two attacks from two villains and then used chaos spear on them. Sonic did some break dancing moves and was kicking any attacker who came near him. Shadow ran up along the building wall, then jumped off and did a homing attack on four enemies. Sonic and Shadow were then back to back, they were being surrounded by their foes. Suddenly tons of bombs fell from the sky and landed near all of them. They exploded and blasted some foes away. Shadow raised a chaos shield around him and Sonic for protection. As the last bombs exploded all the other foes ran away. Shadow made the shield disappear and saw all the damage the bombs did. He then saw five figures in the smoke walking towards them. When the smoke cleared Sonic and Shadow realized it was Knuckles, Espio, Mighty, Shade and Rouge.

"I never believed in the Calvary" said Shadow folding his arms.

Sonic took a step forward.

"Thanks for the assist Knuckles we really…"

"I have a federal warrant for your arrest Sonic" said Knuckles cutting him off.

Sonic looked at the group then frowned.

"So much for the Calvary".
