I promised you guys a sweet chapter, here it is! I hope it´s sweet enough? :)
'Shit!' Thorin tripped over a toy in the royal chambers and cursed loudly.
'Shit!' a little voice said from behind the big armchair. 'Shitshitshit, shitshitshit.'
Thorin paled as Zial walked out from her hiding place behind the armchair and began singing the four letter word.
'No! No no no, this is not a nice word, my gem!' Thorin tried to make his daughter stop, but the little princes was not listening. 'Zial! Come back here!'
The king chased his daughter through the room until he could get a hold on her and swirled her around.
'Promise me, do never utter this word in the presence of your amad.' Thorin whispered into Zials ear and made her chuckle.
'Four letters - neva!' Zial grinned and Thorin sighed. He knew where that came from. 'Kili!' he yelled and let his daughter down. 'I know that you are in here, show yourself you little spelling genius!'
Kili came out of the twins room, smiling cheepishly. 'What? I told her how to spell the word "never".'
Before Thorin could tell the prince that his spelling skills needed extensive pratice, Fili and Gwen came barging into the room.
'Adad!' Gwen cried out and jumped into her fathers arms. The king could sense that something was wrong. 'What is it, my gem?'
'One of the dwarflings told me that the line of Durin is cursed. He pointed at me because I have no beard.' Gwen told her father with a worried expression. 'Is it true? Are we cursed?'
The king sighed heavily. He had heard these rumors, too. People whispered about Durin's curse behind their backs. The adults were stricken with goldsickness while the young ones were cursed with the lack of facial hair. This had nothing to do with his daughters being half humans. Kili had no sign of a beard either.
'Don't worry, cousin.' Kili exclaimed and grinned brightly. 'If one of those nasty dwarflings says something that hurts you, you just answer: so is your mother!'
'Kili!' Thorin needed all of his self control to not laugh at his nephews cheekiness.
'What?' Kili looked at his uncle with big eyes. 'Dwana told me!'
'Dwana! Where is that brat!'
Dwana was looking into the mirror and could not believe what she saw. She was wearing a white dress which flowed around her body in soft waves. Thorin Stonehelm and her had waited two years for this day. The wedding would be in a week from now and Dwana had never been this nervous in her life. The twins had turned three this year and Dwana had lived with the king and queen for five years now. She did not want to leave her queen.
'Your place is at the side of your husband, Dwana.' Brann told her as she saw her courtladies sad face. 'And he belongs to the Iron Hills.'
'But what about you? Who will watch over you and the king when Thorin and I are gone?' Dwana frowned as she saw Brann chuckle. 'Don't laugh at me! I mean it!'
'You are a dear and loyal friend, Dwana.' Brann hugged the young dwarf. 'I have felt nothing but safe with you at my side. But your father will be able to watch over us in your place. He is Thorins guard since their dwarflinghood.'
Dwana was still musing over her fate as lady Mya joined them in the dressing room. 'Queen Brann, its a pleasure to be back!'
'It is wonderful to have you back! You were missed!' Brann hugged Mya tightly and smirked as Dwana went silent and shy all of a sudden.
'My daughter in law...you look beautiful!' Mya smiled at Dwana warmly and the young dwarf sighed in relief. 'My son is a very lucky dwarf.'
'Thank you, lady Mya.' Dwana answered in a shyness that Brann had never seen on her before. 'Your acceptance means alot to me.'
'My son has chosen the dwarf he wants to spend his life with.' Mya smiled. 'I am his mother and I trust his judgement. And since Brann trusted you enough to chose you as her courtlady, I do not see why I should have any problem with you as my daughter in law.'
Dwana could not feel any happier than in this moment. She felt as if she had a big family and she had finally found her place in life. With a bright smile Mya took her future daughter in law into her arms.
'By Durins beard, my Thorin will faint if he sees you like this.' Mya smirked and Brann covered her face with her hands.
'Please, no more fainting dwarves! Dwanas father is bad enough!'
The wedding day had finally arrived and the mountain made ready for the joyous event. Thorins Stonehelm and Dwana were both very young to be married, but everyone who saw them together knew that they had found a partner for life in each other. King Thorin would hold the ceremony and Brann could not tear her gaze away from her majestic husband. Clad in his Durin blue tunic and a fur and with his crown, Thorin stood below the throne with Balin at his side. Thorin Stonehelm, Dain and Mya were already present and Dwalin would walk down the isle with his daughter. Brann and Dis would stand at Dwanas side during the ceremony and Thorin hoped that he would be able to not look at his wife and queen during his speech. Brann was wearing a blue dress similar to Thorins tunic and she was also wearing her crown. For Thorin, she was the most beautiful woman under the whole mountain, of all Middle Earth, and he cursed himself for not having had the perfect wedding with her all those years ago. He remembered the day of their wedding, but not in a good way. Brann had looked beautiful, but she had not put any thought into her wedding outfit and nor had he. It had been a simple ceremony, not worth of beeing called a royal wedding. Both had not been happy during that time. Thorin must have frowned, because suddenly Brann grabbed his hand and stood by his side.
'Why the frown, my king?' she asked and smiled at him reassuringly.
'I was thinking about our wedding.' Thorin told her quietly. 'I am so sorry that I did not marry you with the pompous and joyous ceremony you would have deserved.'
Brann squeezed his hand and moved even closer. 'I do not care. We were married that day and this is the most important thing. I do not need a big ceremony, I only need you.'
The king and queen laid their foreheads together in a silent gesture of love. It was the most affection they showed in public. As soon as Balin cleared his throat they parted and the ceremony was about to beginn.
Dwana walked in on the arm of her father, who was visibly proud of his beautiful daughter. Dwalin was wearing his warrior´s armor and Dwana was wearing a beautiful white dress, which flowed around her body in waves. It was quite simple, but it suited her. Of course the bride was also wearing her weapons, so did the groom. But Dwana was also wearing a small diamond tiara, a wedding gift from her mother in law. Dwana had kept her mohawk, for it identified her with her father and Thorin Stonehelm had no problem with it. She was a quite interesting bride.
Dwalin was reluctant to let his little girl go as they had reached the throne, but after he took a deep breath, he kissed his daughter and stepped aside. Brann swore that she could see tears in the guard´s eyes. Thorin Stonehelm gleamed with happiness and pride as he looked upon his bride and Dwana could also not help but smile widely.
The king began to speak the traditional wedding speech and Brann let her gaze move over the guests. Dain and Mya stood at Thorins side, looking at each other lovingly as if it was them who were getting married. The council of the Blue Mountains and Ered Luin was there, all of them looking upon the happy couple. Since Mara was dead, the Ered Luin had become a more loyal and supportive ally to Thorin and the lords of men.
Thorin Stonehelm and Dwana spoke the wedding vows in Khuzdul and Brann gave the four dwarflings a sign to take their places. Fili, Kili, Zial and Gwen would throw diamond dust into the air when the married couple would walk down the isle and the four dwarflings had already been excited about this for days. As the couple kissed, the throne room cheered and applauded and Brann blinked at Fili who would start to throw when the couple would pass him on their way out. Fili grinned from one ear to the other and Dis was nervous.
'He is planning something.' Dis whispered into Branns ear. 'I know it, these dwarflings only cause mischief. Oh oh.'
As Thorin Stonehelm and Dwana passed the royal dwarflings Fili started counting. 'One, two, three...now!' and all four dwarflings emptied their baskets of diamond dust up into the air at once. A huge cloud of diamond dust covered the whole wedding party and the beards and hair of everyone attending the wedding would still glitter for days.
'It was a wonderful ceremony, cousin Thorin.' Dain walked over to Thorin and patted his shoulder. 'I feel honored that the king of the Blue Mountains himself performed it.'
'Please, I feel honored that your son had chosen to live with us for the past years, it is understood!' Thorin smirked as he saw Dwalin hug his little girl and fight against his tears. 'Dwalin will have a hard time letting go of his daughter.'
'Why should he let go? Now that she is married, nothing changes?' Dain looked at Thorin in surprise.
'But she will return to the Iron Hills with Thorin, won´t she?' Thorin asked and Dain lifted his eyebrows in amusement.
'Oh Mahal, he did not tell you.' Dain grinned. 'My Thorin has asked me to give him permission to stay here as long as his new wife wants. I guess that he will ask you lateron. Dwana is not ready to leave her family and her duty, yet. And to be honest, Thorin has the best example how to run a kingdom when he is near you.'
Thorin felt extremly flattered and would not accept the compliment, but they were interrupted by Brann and Dis.
'Diamond dust...everywhere!' Dis exclaimed. 'And I mean everywhere!'
Brann chuckled as she looked at Thorin and Dain. 'What are you two plotting?'
'Nothing.' Thorin and Dain answered simultaneously and made Brann cock her eyebrow at them.
'Young Thorin told me that he would want to talk to you, my king.' Brann told Thorin and grinned mentally. She knew that she drove him crazy by calling him her king.
'Alright.' Thorin swallowed hard and cursed the fact that he would not be able to be alone with his wife that night. 'Where is he?'
'He and Dwana cut the wedding cake.' Dis pointed down the great hall. 'Over there.'
With a last glance at his wife Thorin marched over to the young married couple and Brann smiled as she watched him leave.
'Five years ago, if someone had told me that you would be so love stricken I would have laughed.' Dain smirked at Branns dreamy expression. 'But it seems that my stubborn and insensitive cousin has found himself the perfect wife. Not even Mahal would have expected that.'
Dain laughed wholeheartedly and Dis chuckled. Brann smiled dreamingly and sighed as she saw her daughters run over to them.
'Peace is over.' she remarked dryly as the two whirlwinds jumped into her arms.
'Aunt Dwana will stay with us! She won´t go to the Iron Hills!' Gwen exclaimed and Brann looked at her daughter in surprise.
'Who told you that, my gem?' she asked and Dain chuckled.
'Thorin will stay here at his wife´s side as long as she wishes to be your courtlady, queen Brann.' he told the astonished queen. 'Mya and I are very proud of him and we are sure that he will learn alot as Thorins and your godson.'
'He is such a sweet lad!' Dis exclaimed and chuckled instantly. 'Do not tell him that I said that!'
'I feel honored that you trust us with your heir, Dain.' Brann told Dain and squeezed his arm. 'I am sure that you miss him alot.'
Dain grumbled in agreement, but he reminded Brann that he also had two other dwarflings. 'My two daughters are driving me crazy, they are starting to date. Date! Mahal save the dwarves who will appear at my doorstep and asks out my little daughters! I have my axe ready all day.'
'It leans against the doorframe, like a huge iron guard!' Mya exclaimed and joined the group. 'I swear to Mahal, one day this thing will fall when you open the door and then you will really be Dain Ironfoot!'
The happy chattering was interrupted as the music started playing and the married couple started to dance. Thorin Stonehelm was a good dancer, he had to have this trait from his mother. But thanks to Dis and Branns training, Dwana danced pretty good as well and the young couple performed a perfect wedding dance. After a while, more and more couples joined the married couple on the dancefloor. Mya pulled a hesitant Dain onto the dancefloor and Dis went to dance with Fili, who asked his mother to dance like a perfect gentledwarf. Brann was looking for Thorin, but he had already found a dancing partner.
Zial was dancing with her father. She was standing on his boots and Thorin danced the walz with his little daughter on his toes. It was an adorable sight and Brann sighed happily as she watched her family on the dancefloor. She watched Thorin laugh and spin his daughter around until they both looked dizzy. The king´s huge hands had cupped the little princesse´s ones and together they swirled around until Zial shrieked with laughter. Brann could have watched them all day, but she saw Thrain stand against one of the pillars and decided to spend some time with her father in law.
'Adad.' she greeted him and made him jump. 'Would you honor me with a dance?'
Thrain smiled at her and took his daughter in law´s hands, guiding her to the dancefloor.
'You look happy, my daughter.' the old dwarf said.
'I am happy. I believe that I have never been happier in my life.' Brann admitted and smiled at Thrain. 'We have not talked for a while, adad. I am terribly sorry that...'
'Nonsense!' Thrain interrupted her. 'You had so much on you mind! That horrible incident with this floozy from Ered Luin...she would have broken any other couple apart! But you, my daughter, you are strong and loyal. You gave my son two wonderful daughters! And maybe you will give him an heir someday...I only hope that I will be there to see it...'
'What do you...' Brann worried about Thrains sad voice, but her attention was diverted by Kili and Gwen, who were standing at the buffet and started to throw with the food. Soon, the hall was filled with dwarves cheering and yelling in a food fight.
The wedding would be remembered for eternity, since it was the last great feast under the Blue Mountains for a long time. Thorin Stonehelm and Dwana stayed in the Blue Mountains and stayed loyal to Thorin Oakenshield and Brann. Dain and Mya had no doubts in leaving their only heir under Thorins care and left for the Iron Hills with light hearts.
As for Thorin Oakenshield and Brann, the royal couple enjoyed some time in peace with their family. The twins were growing up quickly and it was obvious that Gwen was the twin who had all the dwarvish attributes while Zial was the twin looking more like her human mother. Gwen started to grow a beard at the age of four, while Zials face was smooth and hairless. Gwen was sturdy and Zial was slim and taller. But the twins embraced their heritage and did not let their appearance bother them or their families. Their characters matched their appearance and soon Gwen was the one started to play with little swords and axes, while Zial read alot and was interested in healing, like her mother.
Fili, Thorins official heir, was educated and trained as the royal prince he was. Kili was still too young to participate in the lessons and training and so the small dwarfling spent more time with his cousins. The royal trio caused mayhem wherever they went and sometimes Brann just wanted to drag them back into their rooms by their ears. But she loved the little ones dearly, as everyone did. Nobody could be mad at any little Durin for their mischief. Kili and Gwen even got Dwalin to melt under their puppy eyes, although the captain of the guard tried to stand his ground against the sweet dwarflings. But sometimes even he had to admit defeat.
Life under the Blue Mountains was good. For the moment.
