Author's Note: Sorry, Anei.
"Mokuba?"
"Shh! Moron!" Mokuba sped to the doorway, looked out into the hallway, and after a few seconds, slowly shut the door, and turned to me.
"Look, I don't have much time to explain this, so listen. Please."
He took my shocked stare as his cue to continue.
"There is something wrong with Seto, Joey. He has been making deals. Making deals with people…horrible people."
"What kind of horrible people?"
Mokuba fidgeted and soon sat down in the chair, looking down at my position on the ground and wringing his hands.
"His company has been in some financial trouble, recently. He has been making deals with scientists who have been performing horrific tests on the human mind. Controlling them. The scientists work for a higher power. They plan to start a war. You are their first one they have tested on, and since it has been working on you, I need to tell you about it and find a way to escape before you become in too deep."
My heart quickened. I was being controlled? That would explain my recently fleeting memory.
"What have I been doing in the past few days, then?"
Mokuba paused, the conflicted look growing more intense on his face as he shut his eyes. He shook his head silently and looked back into mine.
"Joey, you've been here fore the past few years."
"What? Please, please Mokuba. Please tell me you are kidding. I can't take this anymore…I-…I-" I started sobbing.
Mokuba slowly stood from his spot on the chair and came over to me and hugged me tight.
"Joey, you of all people don't deserve this. I mean, with your parents and their mental and physical abuse… it just isn't right."
How did he know about that?
"So… what have I been doing for the past few years?"
"Well, there have been a few missions. These missions usually means that you were pawns in receiving and providing secrets to other companies."
Smiling, I nervously chuckled and rubbed my arm, "Well, at least I'm not murdering anyone."
Mokuba smiled weakly, "Yet. There are a couple things we can do. We can simply let the drugs pass as I talk to my brother, but clearly that is what I've already been doing. He hasn't been listening to anything I've been saying, simply saying that 'I'm too young to understand' and 'I'll know when I become a true Kaiba' It's really scaring me."
Mokuba took a second to calm down before looking at me and smiling weakly, "We can try to sneak you out of the house, I can help you run away."
"But, what about you? What are you supposed to do? Your brother isn't thinking clearly. What if he tries to hurt you?"
Mokuba fidgeted nervously, "Well, I'm hoping that even if it gets to that point, he will snap out of it after hurting me enough to realize what he has been doing and then he will be so distraught he will forget all about you."
The traits of an anxious brother took over as I quietly stared him down. "That is the stupidest idea ever. You're either coming with me, or we have to find a different plan."
He turned away from me and sighed softly, "I can't just leave him Joey…He's my brother…" Even with his back turned, his crying cut through the silence of the room.
"Think about it Joey… what if it was Serenity? What if your sister was drifting further and further into a sea of her own pain that she resorted to trying anything to save herself from drowning?"
"That's some pretty dark stuff, kid."
Mokuba looked over his shoulder, "I'm a Kaiba. I have to maintain a constant loom of darkness in my life."
My smile blossomed into laughter that made the younger Kaiba jump in surprise.
"What?"
"Mokuba, your brother's life has had many dark moments and memories, but, he has you in his life. You are the one thing in his life that makes him truly smile…I even feel that in his heart, he cares for the "geek squad" as he so often refers to us as. He wouldn't go so far as admitting it to us, or even himself for that matter, but… it's there."
Mokuba stayed silent through my speech, "Joey… Do you love my brother?"
I could feel tomatoes' envy in my cheeks, "What? I-"
A loud slam interrupted our thoughts as the repeated sound of many doors roughly being opened and closed filled our ears.
Mokuba's eyes filled with panic and rushed to the other side of the velvet chair and pulled back a tapestry revealing a medium-sized tunnel, "Joey, here, come here… NOW!"
Adrenaline pumped through my veins as the slamming of doors increased in volume. Stumbling to my feet proceeded to tripping over the rug on the floor.
"Hurry! Damn mutt!"
My heart pounded and I scurried through the tunnel only realizing after I reached the tunnel's exit into the hallway by my current room that Mokuba Kaiba called me a mutt.
