Chapter 20: What's one to do…

Though I was relaxed and just adsorbing everything, snickering at me own joke I returned my focus to Jasper when he arched a brow at me. Beside that I just couldn't keep my mind from wondering or worrying about those that weren't here. Jake tried to distract me but even though I was laying against him and surrounded by his heat I still didn't fell calmed or warm. It was weird just weird. Edward every now and then would update us with news from the pack.

Edward tried but just could not reach Merana so he was relaying on what the wolves were sharing. Basically everything though he did had to separate out the relevant from the irrelevant so yeah he was learning a lot from them. It just never helped calm my nerves or make me feel better.

Though right now at this moment Edward and Jasper were sparing so I was holding my breath more and more. I knew Jasper won't hurt Edward but still I didn't feel right and just wished this day would end. Besides we had to wait till they were done sparing to hear about anything happening with the others.

Only my wish wasn't answered like how I would have liked it. Just as Edward moved to seize Jasper by the shoulders they both froze and all the wolves, even Jake bolted up from the ground. Jumping to my feet as well I ran to Edward.

"Edward what's going on?" I shouted to him. He didn't move or look to me just stood there.

Jake having gained his senses somewhat tried to intercede me but I won't have it and moved to go around him. Now that was weird, me able to out maneuver Jake but I didn't really think on it till Carlisle got in my way and he actually got me to stop.

Looking to Edward I saw him looking to the wolves but before I could ask they were gone. The wolves, even Jake, was gone. Edward was by me and speaking really fast with Carlisle so I couldn't understand. Then before I could voice my worries Edward had me on his back and we were chasing after the wolves.

It took me awhile to realize that but that was because I didn't see them at first. Well until I saw Carlisle running with Sam who was now in his human form. I don't know when he changed or what was going on but it didn't seem that I was going to know. Then I suddenly realized that the Cullens were running along side the pack on their side of the boundary. We all were circling the town heading for the boundary but on the Cullens side of it.

Nothing made sense or was going to for as soon as it all started it suddenly stopped. Or I should say the Cullens. The pack was disappearing into the trees before us but they weren't moving. We had reached the boundary and Sam had not given his permission for us to pass onto their side.

"Sam please we can help! Just let us this once cross onto your land." Carlisle was mad as he screamed at Sam's vanishing form. I know they can see far more then me but it still was weird seeing Sam as he was in front the last time I saw him. He must have lagged behind to tell Carlisle that our help was no longer needed. But why? What was going on?

Having enough I slide off Edward's back and stepped around to stand before him. "Edward tell me." I didn't plead or ask I demanded to know what was going on. Edward didn't even look to me, he just shock his head no. Furious now, I pulled on his shirt till he was looking at me then I yelled. "Tell me!"

Edward seeing that I won't back down, signed as he lowered his eye's till he was looking at my hands, which he engulfed with his but didn't remove them.

"Some of the pack's people were taken and are right now been held captive by some other shape-shifters. Except Issac is behind it and the pack doesn't believe or want our help." He stated still not looking me in the eyes.

"Who?" I asked yanking on his shirt again. Edward don't reply so I demanded instead. "Edward who was taken."

"Emily, Kim, Claire, Jake's dad, Leah and Seth's mother, and a few other love ones. The wolves don't wont us anywhere near them." Edward explained.

Carlisle was still yelling to Sam and the others were pacing as they wanted to help for we knew this was not going to end well. I just stood there processing this all, for it didn't make sense. Releasing Edward's shirt I turned to look into the woods. It was like I was trying to see what they could but that was impossible.

Looking to the side I saw Jasper. Reaching to him I got a hold of his arm. He was really tensed. I could not even image what he was feeling or dealing with at this moment but I felt that if I could just offer my calm then maybe…

Wait why was I so calm. There were people in trouble and my heart was not racing. Earlier back at the clearing I couldn't sit still or stop worrying but now I was calm and thinking. I was thinking about what can be done how we can help.

Just as a plan or really a thought was forming in my mind I suddenly felt a whoosh of air and watched as someone disappeared into the woods.

"Edward!" Esme started yelling as soon as he moved from behind me but it took me a minute to realize that. Then before they could stop me I was running. They couldn't follow for I was already on the wolves land.

I was moving as fast as I could but it just wasn't fast enough for I couldn't see them. Suddenly I heard a noise from above me. Looking up I watched as something on fire hurtled to the ground. Hoping that was Merana and that she was on her way to help I used her to guide me to them.

It still took to long to find the area but as soon as I burst forward I stopped dead. There was more individuals then what Edward had said and he never mentioned the invaders. Just from their eyes I could tell they were mindless fouls, which meant Issac was behind it. Let alone they looked weird to me like this wasn't their element but making do. Then again they didn't have a choice.

Everything seemed to slow down as I took in the scene. Edward was fighting the invaders and throwing the pieces into a fire to my right. Seeing the fire made my think of Merana but I didn't see her but that didn't mean she wasn't near by.

The captives were being held in the middle of a clearing with the mindless invaders surrounding them or should have. Right now they were concentrating right in front of me. Which allowed some wiggle room, for the captives were filtering into the forest one by one as a wolf appeared.

It seemed the pack was being cautious and didn't want to draw attention. Though two weren't helping, Jake and Sam were helping Edward, in truth Jake was just distracting the invaders so someone could sneak off. Sam on the other hand was talking or trying to. For the invaders weren't responding, well verbally that is, instead they were hitting and shoving but it didn't deter him.

Well that is till Sam yelled stop and Jake disappeared into the woods then Sam moved to intercede Edward. Seeing that I ran over and seized Sam's arm. It was foolish but I had to do something. Even with me interfering Sam was able to get in Edward's way and was fighting him. Edward didn't even hit back he just moved to go around but Sam wasn't having it.

'What is Sam thinking? Edward was getting rid of the invaders.' Then it suddenly hit me, Sam didn't realize that Edward was killing them or that Edward was doing as Merana commanded.

Taking a breathe, I leaned close to Sam as I yelled "NO!" it was the first thing to come to mind and seeing it have no effect I added "SAM DON'T". Really what was I thinking trying to command Sam. Though my directness did make him stumble or stop all together I wasn't sure.

"Say Goodbye little one." This little statement had both Sam and I haltering. Turning to stare at this strange woman who had spoken I was surprised to see her looking right at me as she raised her arms.

'Is she talking to me but why?' just as I was thinking of walking to her Merana landed before her.

Now everything was going in slow motion as I watched in horror. Merana had the strange woman in her arms and was shifting into her Dragonian form. Moving to see I shrieked when I saw Merana's mouth on her neck and blood staining the woman's clothes. My skin started crawling as I heard Merana snarling

All chaos broke out then. The remaining villagers ran into the forest and Sam rushed to me only to rush to Merana. Only as he got close they exploded into fire. The three remaining intruders then descended upon Merana and tried to pry her off of the strange woman. Edward then came alive and started attacking them or trying to.

Finally feeling free of the slow motion I started moving only to Edward. He was getting burned every time he reached into the fire. "Edward it's me." It was foolish for it was Merana who I needed to scream at. "Merana. Merana please stop Edward." I was trying everything I could from getting in the way to pushing Edward back but nothing was working. "MERANA. PLEASE HELP, EDWARD IS GONG TO DIE!" I bellowed as Edward shoved me to the ground. "Edward. Edward stop." Trying once more as I struggled to get up I noticed Sam. He was just standing there watching, as if none of this made sense so I shouted to him "Sam please help, he doesn't know what he is doing?"

This helped broke him of whatever spell he was under for he was moving but slowly like he wasn't sure want to do and I didn't blame him but Edward needed help now. Though when I turned back to Edward I noticed he had stopped and was instead turned from the fire and looking at me.

At first I wasn't sure what was happening. I was one second looking at Edward the next Sam was pulling me back as the fire grew. Really it had. The first fire was now part of the second but how I don't know. Then where there had been silence was now filled with screams and smell. I was overwhelmed with the smell of flesh burning and hair on fire.

Looking into the fire I saw that I could once again see Merana only she now holding onto the intruders and the woman was gone. She was burning them alive. It really was something I never thought I would ever see but here I was and I didn't scream or run away. I understand she was releasing the poor souls but still she was roasting them.

It wasn't long till their bodies were nothing more then fuel and at that Merana exited the fire only to collapse to the ground right next to it. Sam seeing this moved to her. Edward though had orders and stepped in his way. Edward didn't put a hand on Sam but didn't allow him any closer.

Merana though looked lost. "Merana." I called to her, she didn't respond or move so I called a little louder. "Merana are you alright."

"Bella try to get to her while I keep Edward busy." Sam yelled back to me as he wrestled with Edward who still wasn't using his hands.

Nodding that I heard I moved to go around only Edward moved to. It didn't even matter that Sam was hanging on him, it just meant he was dragged as Edward moved. Whatever Merana had ordered Edward to do, he was upholding it and that was just pissing Sam off.

For several more minutes we danced like this. Me trying to find an opening while Sam tried to knock Edward off his feet. It really made me happy that Sam wasn't trying to really hurt him but then again I think he got it that Edward wasn't under his own will power at this time.

Suddenly a twig snapped.

Looking over I saw Jake just poking his head out of the forest. Everyone must be safe or all those that had been here so he came back for me only I wasn't leaving without Edward.

Though the twig snapping had a different effect on Sam who was now beyond just trying he wanted around Edward and was now really trying to hurt him. Only that's not what had me shouting it was seeing another wolf racing across the clearing for Merana.

"Merana look out!"

Sam hearing me shout stopped and looked to me only to see me staring at Paul.

"Paul back down. Jake stay where you are." Sam shouted as he moved to me and stopped me from running to Merana. Now being as his attention was else where so was Edwards. Only Edward didn't move to intercede Paul. In fact Edward moved in front of us. I could hear Jake growling but he did as Sam said and stayed. Sam was still yelling to Paul but Paul wasn't listening.

Then just as Paul was on top of Merana he leaped and Merana sprang. Then collided in the air. Merana landed first but instead of rolling to the fire they rolled away. Edward moved with them. Like he knew where his Enchantress was. How much I hated that right at this moment only Merana mattered most to him but there was nothing I could do about it.

'Merana is helping I just knew it. I just knew it.' Watching as Merana wrestled with Paul that thought keep running through my head as though it was the truth. But what is the truth. Right now I was watching as Merana pinned Paul to the ground and force him to look at her. It was weird but when she spook it was as if I was right next to her for I heard it as clear as day.

"Sorry that wont work." Merana wasn't being loud or talking to us just to Paul. But why! Then before anything could be said she added "Paul I need you to fight. Paul listen to my voice." She kept at that just calling to Paul like he was lost. "Paul, Paul listen to me."

Sam at some point had released me but I didn't notice or that Jake was standing next to us. It was like we all were in a trance or me at least. For suddenly it was broken.

"Get out of my way." Sam started yelling as he rushed forward only to be stopped by Edward. "Get off of him now." Sam yelled I think more to be heard then actually have Merana respond. It was weird, again.

"Sam please stop. She wont hurt him." stepping forward as I spoke I was shocked to have Jake get in my way. Really I wasn't excepting him and it caused me to react badly for I started shoving and kicking him.

"Issac you will not have this boy or any other." Merana screamed which had all of us, well besides Edward looking to her. I gasped seeing her arm in Paul's jaw but there was no blood. It was like He wanted to hurt her but not badly. Again I say weird. "Paul I'm here for you. Just come back to us."

Once again Merana had Paul under control and we all were watching as she called out to him. Well that is till I noticed that Paul was shifting. Turning my head I noticed how Merana shifted also, only it was to cover. 'Why would she move more…' It hit me just as I was thinking it. Merana was trying to keep Paul under wraps. Though I really wondered how she could feel so comfortable with someone naked under her for I couldn't… then looking up to Edward all thoughts flew out of my head.

"SAM STOP!" I yelled watching in horror as Sam tried to take Edwards head. I was rooted to my spot as I watched the man I loved fight Sam. Nothing there was nothing I could do. Then we all heard it and it had Sam rooted in his spot. Paul was howling in pain. Jerking my eyes from Edward as he freed himself from Sam I saw why Paul was howling. There were scratches all over his face. Merana had scratched him but why, I thought she had been helping not trying to hurt him.

Then before we could speak or breathe, Merana had her hand in her mouth and was biting it. Then just as fast that hand was in Paul's jaw and she secured it in. Paul writhed and wiggled but nothing he did could dislodge the hand from his jaw.

"Paul, Paul come back. Your family, friends, and the pack need you." Merana soothed as she settled back on Paul. At that Paul calmed but once again he was in his wolf form, or some what, so Merana didn't let up. "Paul their waiting for you. Fight him so you can see them, hug them, and explain. Paul" though at this words it seemed something must have hit home for Paul started shifting again. Only this time he did finally shift and I just stared as Merana removed her hand and just stroked his face before rolling off of him.

I didn't have to advert my eyes for the moment Paul was free he shifted again only he didn't move to stand by Sam no he moved to stand next to Edward.

'Why would he do that. He's free right.' I thought but I couldn't voice it for Merana spoke.

"Don't let anyone pass. But don't cause harm or let them harm you."

So am I getting better!? I am not going to ask if I got the characters right for you are not going to respond but I can talk with you.

"Oh Mary are you feeling lonely cause your idjits aren't reviewing" Merana coos as she hugs her. "You all are so mean to her."

"It's ok Mera I still am writing and I have such a great character like you that I can't help but feel bad that no one will review. I just want to know how I am doing!"

"Oh Mary you are so nice even if these IDJITS don't deserve it. But yeah to writing cause that is how I stay alive. So yeah all you idjits enjoy reading about me cause that's all you can do."

Oh sorry about that Merana had something to say, especially since this wasn't her chapter. But then again she's going to have to wait for I think I solved my problem and for the next several chapter's others will be the focal or will be the pov. So ok enjoy and please REVIEW ~~ Mary Mab
