Sora was flying through the skies on his Keyblade Glider, his mind racing as fast as his Keyblade Glider.
"How can Riku be here? He's supposed to be in the other worlds." Roxas pondered.
"Maybe it's not our Riku. Maybe it's that little fairy from Radiant Garden." Xion suggested.
"Didn't you hear them back there? This Riku was a guy with white hair." Roxas said, Xion nodding in realization.
"Yeah that's right." She mumbled.
"I feel like this isn't the first time we've had to deal with two Rikus. But for the life of me I can't remember when that would've been." Sora said.
"I get that feeling too." Roxas said, Xion nodding in agreement.
"But from the sounds of it, this other Riku is traveling around with Nixe. We find her, we find Riku." Xion said.
"Well it's no surprise that they'd be together." Sora said before pausing.
"Wait, why isn't it a surprise?" Sora asked himself.
"You okay Sora? We've stopped flying." Roxas asked.
"There's something peculiar about what he just said. Why would Nixe and Riku traveling together sound so…so…normal?" Xion asked.
"Maybe we need to talk to someone who knows Nixe better than us." Roxas suggested as Sora started flying the glider again, turning it sharply around towards Sublime City.
"Probably wouldn't hurt. And I think I know just the people to ask." Sora said as the barrier to Sublime began to rapidly approach.
…
Soon Sora was walking through the shining and shimmering streets of Sublime, marveling at the prim and polished city. It was just before evening as he entered the First District where he found Arlene changing more streetlamps.
"Hey, Larxene!" Sora called, earning a heavy sigh and a roll of the eyes from the former Savage Nymph.
"You should know I'm in an extremely good mood so I'll let that one slide this time. Just remember its 'Arlene' Sora." Arlene replied as she dropped down from the street lamp, removing her cap and clipping it to her belt.
"Sorry." Sora replied as Arlene gave a dismissive wave.
"Forget it. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be out saving the worlds?" she asked.
"Actually I need to talk to you guys about Nixe. I need to know more about her. There's some questions about her that keep nagging me." Sora said.
"Were we nagging?" Xion asked in his mind.
"Uh~h." Roxas replied in an "I-don't-know" fashion. Arlene smirked coyly.
"Oh~h. Got yourself a little crush on her did ya?" Arlene asked but Sora smiled and shook his head.
"No. I've already got a girlfriend. I just feel like I know Nixe from somewhere." Sora said as Arlene scratched the back of her head.
"Well I'm afraid there's not much I can tell you. I've only known her for about three years. Longer than Vanille's known her for that matter. Medy might know something. The Master would be the ideal person to ask but since she's not here…oh! I know, you could ask Vincent." Arlene suggested, earning a surprised look from Sora.
"Vincent?" he asked as Arlene glanced towards the mansion.
"Yeah. He's been here the longest out of all of us and was here when the Master first arrived. He'd know all about her past." Arlene said as Sora gave a nod.
"Thanks Larxene. I'll go ask him." Sora said before running off, leaving Arlene to roll her eyes.
"Oh now you're just doing it on purpose!" she yelled after him but Sora didn't hear her. Instead he raced towards the mansion but found no one inside. As he looked around the foyer, he noticed a hidden passage under one of the twin staircases leading to the second floor, only this passage led downward. Sora cautiously looked down the stairs and saw a faint light coming from inside. He knew the passage to Prof. Drake's lab was elsewhere in the manor so this passage was a total question mark. Sora crept down the stairs but as he reached the bottom, he saw a sight that creeped him out immediately. It was a series of burial crypts, most of them empty but some of the crypts were sealed, the names of those buried within having long since eroded away to the point they were illegible. The crypts were lit by small blue electric lights which gave off a soft blue glow. He could hear a mechanical clicking sound echoing through the crypt, and as he walked down the hall, he happened to glance down one passage and saw the red cloaked gunman standing in the hallway, spinning the chamber on his tri-barreled revolver, the spinning chamber making the clicking sound. Vincent didn't even have to look to know Sora was there.
"Master Sora." He greeted in his gruff voice.
"What are you doing here?" Sora asked.
"I live here." Vincent replied simply, glancing at a coffin that was lying on an old altar, the coffin laying open.
"You…live here?" Sora asked, mildly disturbed.
"For the last seven years." Vincent replied as he holstered his gun and turned towards Sora.
"Why not sleep in a bed?" Sora asked hesitantly but Vincent didn't answer. Realizing he wasn't going to get an answer, Sora cleared his throat.
"Um, I wanted to ask you about Nixe. Where she's from specifically." Sora said but Vincent glanced away.
"I can't tell you. The Master never told us where she came from." Vincent replied.
"Oh. Does she remember where she's from?" Sora asked.
"As I understand it, she forgot where she came from in the chaos after her mother was killed. Losing someone you care deeply for is a hard thing for a child of only four years to cope with." Vincent said as Sora gave a sad nod.
"Okay. Thanks anyway. But would you know if she knows someone named Riku?" Sora asked a Vincent furrowed his brow.
"Riku…so that's his name." Vincent said, confusing Sora.
"Huh?"
"I saw Nixe here earlier. She wasn't alone. There was someone with her. A boy with white hair, dressed in black. Even though he might've been dark on the outside, I could tell his intentions were pure. There was something…different about him, something…" Vincent trailed off in thought.
"Well, if you see them again, make sure Nixe doesn't leave." Sora said as he tuned to leave but Vincent didn't reply. Sora was headed out of the catacombs when Vincent suddenly flew past.
"WHOA!" Sora yelped. His instincts immediately sensed trouble. He quickly raced out of the tunnels and out of the mansion to find the people of Sublime in a panic and with good reason. There was a small figure in the white robes of the Sisterhood, throwing magic spells around, smashing up the First District. Laaurim, Arlene, and Ludro were doing their best to fend off the attacker while Vanille, Fang, and Medy helped get the people to safety. Vincent was standing near the gate, his eyes narrowed at the figure.
"It's him." Vincent muttered as Sora approached him.
"Who's that?!" Sora asked.
"The Lost Guardian. One of our former allies, brainwashed to serve the Sisterhood of Seven. One of the most dangerous of the First Sister's henchmen." Vincent said as a determined look appeared on Sora's face.
"I'll stop him!" Sora said as he charged past Vincent.
"It's going to take you to stop him." Vincent said softly as Laaurim, Arlene, and Ludro fell back, catching their breath.
"Geez of all the days for him to show up!" Arlene groaned.
"At least Master Sora's here." Ludro said, watching as Sora ran towards the fountain, the figure having stopped the water flow and was perched atop the fountain, casting magic spells to wreck the town.
"HEY!" Sora yelled, catching the figure's attention. The Unknown looked at him from over its shoulder. The Unknown said nothing to Sora as its hand suddenly glowed with red flames. Sora summoned his Keyblade just in time to block the Firaga, the figure suddenly spinning around in surprise.
"Another Keyblade." The figure said as Sora dropped into his fighting stance.
"Stop tormenting these people! They don't deserve this!" Sora yelled at him. The figure calmly raised its hand out to the side.
"I carry out the will of the Sisterhood and it is their will that your heart be taken, Apprentice." The figure said but Sora narrowed his gaze in determination. (Battle music cue: Dark Impetus – BBS FM).
"Not gonna happen!" Sora argued as his armor immediately formed over him. The Unknown immediately produced its own Keyblade, the Unknown being the same one from Jungle Book and Dalmatian Plantation. Sora was surprised by the sight of the Keyblade.
"What?!" he yelped just as the unknown leapt at him, Sora quickly dodge rolling clear, popping up and hurling a Firaga towards the Unknown who nimbly leapt up high into the air. The Unknown immediately unleashed a sudden flurry of Thundaga bolts towards Sora who blocked them with a Reflega spell. The unknown landed and rolled forward, thrusting its Keyblade towards Sora but Sora spun to one side and swung at the Unknown, the Unknown just barely blocking in time but still getting thrown across the courtyard by the force of the swing, their Keyblades ringing out upon impact. The Unknown landed in a skid on its feet, facing Sora with its Keyblade in hand.
"Okay, you're strong. But how lucky are you?" The Unknown asked before suddenly vanishing into thin air, alarming Sora.
"Where'd he go?" Sora asked as he looked around. He was suddenly dealt a hard blow to the side of the head by an unseen force, the armor absorbing the damage, knocking Sora towards the fountain.
"Alright, looks like we need a new plan." Sora said before dismissing the Kingdom Key and backflipping up onto the top of the fountain, summoning Oathkeeper and Oblivion, the two Keyblades pointed straight out to the sides.
"Two Keyblades?!" Arlene exclaimed from the sidelines.
"That's not the first time I've seen someone wield two Keyblades and somehow I don't think it's a first for you either." Ludro said to Laaurim and Arlene. Vincent was watching in silence as both Keyblades created thirteen light based clones of themselves, twenty-six in total, forming a ring around Sora. It was his Thirteenth Strike Shot Lock. Sora suddenly fired off the Keyblades in all directions, the Keyblades impacting into random places on the ground. One of them however exploded in midair. Sora spun towards were the Keyblade exploded and leapt into the air, dismissing the two Keyblades and summoning Kingdom Key again, pointing it towards the spot where the Keyblade had disappeared and firing off streams of red energy, his Ragnarok Ultima Shot Lock. The streams began to alter direction on their own as if tracking and homing in on their target as it moved. Suddenly the bolts started tracking in six different directions before looping back around towards Sora. Suddenly six smaller versions of the Unknown appeared around him.
"What?!" Sora yelped before the six unknowns became a single larger version. The unknown gave Sora a two fingered salute on its four fingered hand before leaping up and over Sora, kicking him hard into the back towards Sora's own Shot Lock which suddenly veered off in all directions before exploding harmlessly into the air, the Shot Lock unable to hit its caster. Sora leapt to his feet with a spin but before he could make a move, the Unknown thrust its Keyblade towards him, causing a sudden bubble of black, white, and grey energy to form around him and rapidly expand, enveloping Sora, draining all the color from Sora and the area within the bubble. It was now a small zone of monochrome colors. Sora quickly tried to cast a spell but nothing happened.
"What's going on?" Laaurim asked, confused. He and the others were outside the bubble.
"It's a powerful silence spell. It's called Monochrome. Sora can't use any magic or abilities while inside there." Vincent explained.
"How do you know that?" Arlene asked, suspiciously.
"Because I've seen it used many times before, but this is the first time I've seen it used against a friend." Vincent said as Sora was forced to dodge and evade the Unknown's spells and attacks. Sora couldn't even use his Shot Locks inside the Monochrome bubble. He quickly summoned Two Become One to his offhand, quickly giving him the melee advantage, easily able to block the Unknown's attacks but he was unable to land any hits as the Unknown kept bouncing around, even ricocheting in midair without hitting anything. Finally the Unknown saw an opening and took it, slipping in behind Sora and attacking but to his surprise, Oathkeeper appeared in midair, blocking the blow. Sora quickly spun and swung at the Unknown, forcing him to jump away, the Monochrome bubble fading away at last. Oathkeeper disappeared almost instantly as Sora turned towards the Unknown.
"Why are you doing this?! Why are you serving the Sisterhood?!" Sora yelled but the Unknown didn't reply. Instead he pointed his Keyblade at Sora.
"You are formidable but I've run out of patience. Your luck has just run out, Apprentice." The Unknown said as a white sphere of energy began to form on the tip of the Unknown's Keyblade. Before he could fire it off though, there was a bright flash of light from overhead as a figure the same size as the Unknown flew in and tackled the Unknown to the ground. The new figure leapt back, pulling the hood on its black coat back, revealing a familiar face. (End Battle Music)
"Your highness!" Sora exclaimed as Mickey held his Keyblade ready. The Unknown was lying face down on the cobblestone courtyard floor, just beginning to push itself up on its hands.
"I've been looking for you! It's time to end this! Time for you to come home!" Mickey said to the unknown, confusing Sora.
"Huh?" he asked, his helmet disappearing. The Unknown climbed to its feet, turning towards the two Keyblade Masters, its hood falling backwards, revealing a pair of long black rabbit ears and a cartoonish face similar to Mickey's. Sora blinked in surprise.
"Who are you?" the Unknown asked, Mickey lowering his Keyblade and reached out his hand in a pleading gesture.
"You know who I am and I know who you are, Oswald." Mickey said, the rabbit arching a confused eyebrow.
"How do you know me, Mickey? How do I know your name?" Oswald asked, confused by his own knowledge of Mickey's name.
"You know how. You just can't remember. I don't know what the Sisterhood has done to ya pal, but I will help you remember." Mickey said as Oswald strained, furrowing his brow in pain.
"Quiet! I don't know you! Leave me alone!" Oswald yelled before sending out a powerful shockwave of energy, Mickey and Sora standing against the force of the blast just as Oswald turned and ran into a Corridor of Darkness. Mickey quickly gave chase.
"Your highness, wait!" Sora yelled but Mickey had already run through the Corridor which closed behind him. Sora was left to simply watch in confusion, his armor returning to his shoulder guard. He was soon joined by Vincent, Laaurim, Ludro, and Arlene.
"Who was that guy? The Mouse?" Arlene asked but Sora didn't have to answer as someone else answered for him.
"That was His Royal Highness, King Mickey Mouse of Disney Castle." Professor Von Drake answered as he approached.
"You know him, Professor?" Laaurim asked.
"Know him?! Why I used to be the Royal Scientist under him!" Professor Von Drake answered, surprising Sora.
"Wait, you're from Disney Castle?" Sora asked as the Professor started cleaning his glasses.
"Indeed I am young man. Where do you think I got my forty two doctorates? Although I haven't been home in over ten years." Von Drake answered, putting his glasses back on.
"Why?" Sora asked.
"Well I had to try and catch that cursed invention of mine. That Phantom Blot." Von Drake answered.
"Then who was the other guy? Oswald?" Sora asked. Von Drake seemed to be surprised by Sora's question.
"Oswald, a Keyblade Master who came here with Master Si'Lea to try and protect the worlds from Darkness." Vincent replied, startling Sora.
"Wait, you mean that was a Keyblade Master I just fought?!" Sora asked.
"More than just that. You and everyone else here know him simply as Oswald, but I knew him back when he was His Royal Highness, King Oswald the Lucky of Timeless River!" Von Drake declared proudly, Sora blinking in surprise.
"Wait a minute, Timeless River was the name of Disney Town before it was Disney Town." Sora said as Von Drake gave an impressed nod.
"That's right. King Oswald the Lucky was the first King of Timeless River. He handed the throne over to his brother when he became a Keyblade Master." Von Drake explained as Sora scratched his head in thought.
"His brother? I guess that was the guy Mickey succeeded." Sora said as Von Drake arched an eyebrow.
"Succeeded? What are you-…Oh!" Von Drake said in amusement, laughing in delight.
"What's so funny?" Sora asked.
"My dear boy, King Mickey IS his brother!" Von Drake replied as Sora gave an understanding nod.
"Oh…" Sora replied before realization hit and his eyes widened.
"WHAT?!"
"Wait so the Mouse and the Rabbit are brothers? How does that work? Half-siblings?" Arlene asked, confused.
"That's something we don't talk about in Disney Town. Long story." Von Drake said softly.
"So that's why his majesty is here. He's trying to help his brother." Sora said as he looked towards where both Kings had vanished moments ago.
"Was there some bad blood between them?" Laaurim asked.
"No-no-no. Nothing like that. King Oswald was never comfortable with the crown so he handed it down to his brother after he became a Keyblade Master. He's still highly respected as far as I know." Von Drake said as Sora pondered.
"Well, it looks like Aqua, Mickey, and I all came here looking for someone even if we didn't know it. Aqua found Si'Lea, Mickey's trying to rescue his brother, and I'm here looking for Namine." Sora said as Ludro cleared his throat.
"And you're all looking for Nixe too." Ludro added.
"Yeah. Guess I better continue the search. Thanks for the help. Sorry about messing up the town." Sora said.
"Forget about it. They might re-scuff the walls but this town hasn't been more alive in years." Arlene said as the others nodded.
"Good luck in your search, Sora." Laaurim said as the others nodded.
"Thanks. Be careful you guys." Sora said as he summoned his armor and Keyblade Glider before rocketing off into the sky, disappearing in a twinkle of light. As he flew through the stars, he had a determined smile on his face beneath his helmet.
"Namine, I know you're out there! I will find you, I promise!" he said to himself. He then felt a warm sensation on his left hand. He looked down at his hand and saw a message on it reading…
"Nixe sighted in Dalmatian Plantation. Nixe departed world safely. Fifth Sister active in world. Requesting assistance – Reaper 3."
"Looks like I should help out there first. Maybe that Sister will lead me to Namine." Sora pondered as he veered off into the stars.
End Chapter 37
That's right folks, the Unknown that attacked Nixe and Riku in Jungle Book is indeed Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Mickey's "older-half-brother." In this universe though, they'll just be referred to as being brothers. We won't delve into the half part. Like Professor Von Drake said, "That's something we don't talk about in Disney Town.
Being something of a Disney aficionado, I was absolutely thrilled when Disney CEO Bob Iger managed to bring Oswald back into the Disney family 78 years after Walt lost him to Charles Mintz (a shady distributor for Universal Pictures back in the 1920s). Naturally, I needed to include him somehow in the RKH Saga. How and why he's working for the Sisterhood will be revealed.
