In the Palace of Eternity, Namine had been exploring the castle on her own, subtly exploring for more clues to try and piece together what First's plan was. She was also looking for clues regarding Prishe's past. Riku hadn't come through with any information yet and she suspected it'd be a while before she would hear anything. Namine had made her way to one of the lower floors of the palace, the floors where Prishe's cell was. As she looked around, she found what looked like a disused dungeon. Looking inside, she saw a number of strange devices that looked like they hadn't been used in years. There was an operating table, several strange machines, some notes that had been torn and the rest long since eaten away by vermin. But one thing that made Namine especially worried were the large and deep claw marks on the walls, marks too big to be left by any ordinary animal. Namine immediately felt uncomfortable and turned to leave. As she did, she spotted something on the wall that seemed peculiar.
It was an old and partially rotten map but there was enough of the map still around to recognize it. The map was of a place referred to as "Sublime City" and from the looks of it, the city seemed to be one large circle, the city being divided up into seven districts, forming what looked like a giant target like on a dartboard. Each of the districts were numbered, the inner most district being the first and the outer most being the seventh. There was a spot in the fourth district labeled "Flynn's." Beneath it in First's handwriting, was written "Heartless Source. Maintain connection at all costs." Namine now knew what this was. Flynn's was a source for Heartless, but how she wasn't sure. She quickly pulled out a pad of paper and wrote down the address for Flynn's before pocketing the pad and turning to leave. As she exited the chamber, she ran straight into someone she clearly didn't want to.
"Ah, Seven, just the person I'm looking for." First said as Namine froze.
"Sister! Why were you looking for me?" Namine asked as First glared down at her.
"What exactly happened on your last mission? You claim to have killed the man Syndrome wanted rid of and yet somehow, he was caught sneaking into Syndrome's facility just recently." First said as Namine looked up at her with an unreadable expression but inside she was shaking in fear.
"I-…I could have sworn I killed him." Namine said as First gave a nod.
"To his credit, it would appear Mr. Incredible is nothing less than his name implies. I understand from Syndrome that his reputation from his glory days made his moniker no less true. Ergo, I don't hold you responsible for his survival. His survival is nothing short of miraculous but even those of incredible strength have a breaking point…and now we know his." First said with a dark smile.
"What?" Namine asked, confused.
"It seems that, somehow, Mr. Incredible managed to call for help after he escaped you and the abhorrent child. It would seem someone has come for him. He has a soft spot for protecting the 'innocent' and we could use someone like him on our side. You've seen him fight, seen how strong he is. Imagine the power his heart possesses. We must turn him into a Heartless so that we may claim both it and his Nobody. He will become a powerful minion for the Sisterhood…and that is what you shall do." First said, inwardly alarming Namine.
"Is that what you want me to do? Turn him into a Heartless?" she asked as First gave a nod.
"In a sense, yes. Those 'innocents' I mentioned. Destroying them while forcing him to watch will break his spirit and then it'll only be a matter of time before his anger consumes him and he becomes a Heartless." First said as Namine arched a curious eyebrow.
"I understand, but may I ask why I'm the one doing this when this sounds like something you specialize in? Anger?" Namine asked as First gave a nod.
"Yes, that is true but considering it was your failure to kill him the first time that gave us this opportunity, I feel that it is only fair you complete your mission." First said as Namine gave a nod.
"Alright. I'll report to Syndrome right away." Namine said as First gently pat her on the head.
"Good girl. And to make sure you succeed this time, I'm sending the Abhorrent Child with you again." First said as Namine gave a nod, although she was grimacing on the inside. Having Prishe around would make any sabotage attempts even harder to pull off if not impossible.
"If you insist." Namine replied, trying to come off as hating Prishe. First seemed to admire this change and smiled approvingly.
"That will be all, Seven." First said as she turned and started heading back towards the upper floors. Namine glanced down the hall towards Prishe's cell, racking her brains trying to figure out the best way to help sabotage the mission.
"If only Sora were there. Then he could-…" Namine said before freezing in realization. She quickly reached into her coat pockets and pulled out a yellow star shaped charm, closing her eyes with the charm in hand. After a moment, she pocketed the charm, a satisfied smile on her face as she headed for Prishe's cell.
"It might not be Sora, but it's the next best thing."
Across the stars…
Nixe and Riku had just left Dalmatian Plantation and were heading out for another world. Riku was riding behind Nixe, balancing perfectly on the star when he suddenly staggered.
"Uh-oh!" Riku yelped, regaining his balance.
"Easy there killer! Don't fall off!" Nixe laughed.
"Sorry, but I just got a message from Sora via D-Link. He just got information about a pending Sisterhood attack on a world near us." Riku said as Nixe brought her glider to a stop.
"The Sisterhood?" she asked.
"We can't let the innocent people of that world suffer. We need to help them." Riku said as Nixe turned towards him.
"Yeah my track record against the Sisterhood isn't looking good lately." She replied as Riku glared at her.
"You want to help the people of Sublime, right?" Riku asked as Nixe gave a nod.
"Yeah?"
"Well what better way to help them than by busting up a member of the Sisterhood, proving to the worlds that they can be beaten? That'll give them more hope than anything else." Riku said as Nixe tuned away from him.
"Well, I would say to 'take the wheel' but it looks like you're gonna have to backseat drive." Nixe said as Riku smiled at her.
"Right." He replied as they took off, veering around and headed straight for a nearby world.
On Nomanisan Island…
Namine and Prishe arrived in a Corridor of Darkness, Prishe picking her nose as they entered a room where Mr. Incredible was suspended in midair inside a metal ring, his hands and feet incased within large round metal spheres that were held in place by electrical currents inside the ring. Syndrome and Second were already there waiting for them.
"Whoa, this guy really is Mr. Incredible! To fool Sev into thinking he was dead must've taken a lot of work." Prishe commented as Mr. Incredible, not remembering who Namine was, glared at them with a scowl.
"He fell off a cliff and I thought it was a long way down." Namine mumbled.
"I thought you fought him inside a cave." Second remarked.
"There can be cliffs inside of caves, Dingleberry." Prishe argued with a smirk, earning a scowl from Second.
"Anyway, there is still a way we can finish him off. Seems Mister 'I-work-alone' sent out a call for help! Lame-lame-lame-lame-LAME! Now a government plane just got shot down over our airspace and word is there's survivors!" Syndrome said as he flipped on a security monitor which showed live surveillance footage of two individuals in costumes matching Mr. Incredible's, one was a teenaged girl with long black hair and a slender frame while the other was a preteen boy with short blond hair. Namine subtly glanced towards Mr. Incredible, noticing his reaction. To her surprise, he seemed horrified by the sight of the kids. Namine quickly and subtly entered his surface memories and found memories of these two at various stages of their lives, from infancy to modern times, and suddenly realized who they were. They were Mr. Incredible's children! Namine's eyes widened as she realized what her mission now entailed: she was to kill Mr. Incredible's children, an act of unspeakable cruelty that would definitely turn him into a Heartless should they succeed.
"We'll deal with them." Namine said, subtly giving a reassuring look to Mr. Incredible who looked at her with anger, still believing her to be an enemy.
…
Meanwhile in the jungles, Nixe and Riku had just arrived, walking through the jungles, Nixe marveling at the world around her.
"What's got you all excited, giggles?" Riku asked her, his hood up over his head.
"Fourth new world I've visited today. I'm taking it all in." she replied.
"It's another jungle. The second you've visited today. Third if you count the forests of Lantern Kingdom." Riku mumbled.
"No, that was a forest and Jungle Book was different. This is a tropical jungle. There's a difference. Besides, there's something about palm trees and other tropic scenes that makes me feel right at home." Nixe replied as Riku smirked towards her.
"Uh-huh." He replied before his instincts told him to stop, quickly motioning to do so. Nixe stopped.
"What is it?" she asked softly.
"I saw something mo-UFF!" Riku yelped as he was bowled over by a small red blur.
"What was that?!" Nixe asked before just barely dodging a large stick that was swung at her by an unseen person.
"Whoa-whoa-whoa! Who's doing that?!" Nixe asked as Riku climbed to his feet while quickly scooping up and tossing a handful of sand towards the stick, the sand hitting an invisible humanoid figure that let out a yelp, suddenly appearing out of thin air. It was a teenaged girl with long dark hair in a red one piece costume with black elbow-length gloves and matching thigh-high boots and a black domino mask over her eyes. She also had a yellow hairband in her hair. On her chest was a black and orange stylized lowercase letter I.
"Uh-huh, invisibility." Riku commented just before he got bowled over again but this time the blur was perched on his chest, punching him in the face.
"DON'T-TOUCH-MY-SISTER!" the blur, actually a blond haired preteen boy in a costume matching the girl's only with shorter length gloves and boots, yelled. Riku quickly knocked him off.
"Cool it pal! We're not here to hurt anyone!" Riku exclaimed.
"Who are you guys?!" the girl asked as Nixe looked her over.
"Same could be asked about you." Nixe commented.
"What's with the costumes?" Riku asked as the girl sighed.
"Look, it's a long story. Our dad might be in danger. Our mom brought us here-." "Actually we stowed away on her plane." The boy interrupted.
"But we got shot down and now mom's trying to find our dad. We were told that there were probably bad guys that would kill us and we needed to use our powers to survive." The girl explained.
"Powers? You mean super-speed and invisibility?" Riku asked as Nixe snapped her fingers in realization.
"The costumes, the powers, the masks! You're superheroes aren't you?!" She asked as the two looked at each other and shrugged.
"I guess so." The boy replied.
"I'm Violet." The girl introduced.
"And I'm the Dash." The boy replied, trying to make himself come off as cool.
"I'm Nixe and this is Riku. We got word that there was going to be some kind of an attack here." Nixe said.
"Attack? By who?" Violet asked. Almost instantly, Riku summoned his sword and stepped past the two supers, standing in a defensive posture while summoning a guard wall just in time for Prishe to splatter herself against it and fall to the ground.
"What the-?!" Nixe yelped as she summoned her Keyblade, dropping into a fighting stance while Violet and Dash dropped into theirs. Prishe then staggered to her feet with a smirk which vanished the minute she saw Nixe.
"What?! Aww man, no one ever said that you'd be here, kid!" Prishe groaned as Nixe's face fell in shock.
"Prishe? Prishe is that really you? I thought you were dead!" Nixe said as Prishe glanced over her shoulder, seeing Namine approaching and grimacing.
"I wish I was." She muttered as she slipped her plated knuckles onto her hands.
"It looks like we have a change in objective." Namine said, making herself come off in a villainous fashion, looking at Nixe. Nixe immediately recognized her wardrobe.
"Ah-ha! One of you Sisterhood types! So which one are you?!" Nixe asked as Namine pulled back her hood.
"I am Seven, the Lady of Voraciousness." Namine introduced as Nixe smirked. (Battle music cue: Unforgettable – BBS)
"Gluttony eh? Well I hope that means you're a glutton for punishment!" Nixe said as Riku stepped up next to her.
"You two make a run for it, we'll handle these two." Riku said but was surprised when Violet and Dash stepped up next to them.
"Forget it! What kind of heroes would we be if we just let you go this alone?!" Violet asked as they assumed fighting stances. Prishe almost immediately launched towards Nixe but was surprised when Riku intercepted her.
"Nuh-uh! You want to get to Nixe, you'll have to go through me first!" Riku said challengingly. At the same time, Namine summoned her Keyblade, Nixe pausing at the sight of the weapon.
"I never knew Nobodies like you could wield a Keyblade." Nixe said as Namine adopted Sora's fighting stance.
"You'd be surprised what we're capable of. Stealing the hearts of others for our own gain for starters." Namine replied as she calmly approached Nixe only to suddenly find herself in the center of a miniature dust storm as Dash raced around her in a circle, running at high speeds, creating a small cyclone. Namine had to shield herself from the winds as they whipped around her. She quickly cast a Zero-G spell, causing Dash to lift off the ground, the dust clearing away to reveal a fully armored Nixe with her Keyblade pointed straight at Namine.
"Eat this!" Nixe taunted as she unleashed her Flame Salvo Shot Lock. Namine quickly threw up a Reflega Sphere, the fireballs from the Shot Lock impacting hard against the shield. The minute the salvo had ended, she saw Nixe raise her Keyblade.
"En-Fire!" she yelled, her Keyblade suddenly bursting into flames before charging forward towards Namine. Namine was now on the defensive which was preferable as she had no desire to harm Nixe but she still needed to make it look convincing for Syndrome and Second who were undoubtedly watching. Every swing of Nixe's Keyblade produced a wave of flames that strengthened her attacks. Namine quickly knew what to do.
"Bar-fire!" Namine exclaimed, suddenly letting off a brief glow of red flames. Now the fire from Nixe's Keyblade were having no effect and Nixe knew it.
"Uh-oh." She muttered before leaping back just as Namine swung at her, her swing missing the young Keyblade Apprentice. Meanwhile, Riku and Violet were doing well to avoid or deflect Prishe's attacks. Riku was proving nimble enough to avoid the Abhorrent Child's punches and kicks. Riku was suddenly tripped up by Prishe but before she could follow through with a second strike, her fist bounced off a strange semi-transparent purple sphere of energy around Riku. Riku looked and saw Violet with her hands thrust out towards him, generating a forcefield around him.
"Thanks for the save." Riku said as he leapt to his feet, Prishe shaking her wrist slightly. Riku quickly launched into, what he had hoped, would be a string of vicious strikes but to his surprise, Prishe sidestepped his first attack, caught his arm and started to move to break it at the elbow but Riku slipped out of the coat just in time, leaving Prishe just holding his coat by the sleeve and Riku in his Dark Form bodysuit.
"Okay, so it's going to take more than that to take care of you." Riku said, dropping back into his fighting stance and suddenly disappearing. Prishe arched a confused eyebrow for a moment before Riku reappeared in midair nearby, flying towards her with his sword raised and trailing a strange dark energy as he flew. It was his Dark Aura ability, Riku swung at her but missed, disappearing before reappearing nearby, flying at her again.
"Whoa!" Prishe yelped as she dodged his attacks. Riku suddenly appeared behind her and ran her through from behind, Prishe not even crying out in pain but Violet was stunned, her hands clasped over her mouth. Prishe let out an exasperated sigh.
"Really? Like that's gonna do anything?" Prishe asked but Riku smirked.
"Nope. But this might." He replied before using all his strength and slinging her into the air, the sword sliding out of her back.
"Violet! Now!" Riku yelled as Violet quickly raised her hands, trapping Prishe in a forcefield.
"Alright, I want answers! What's the Sisterhood doing here?!" Riku said to Prishe as he pulled his coat back on.
"All I know is that Sev and I were sent to go K.O. the kids in the fancy pajamas here so this old guy would lose himself in grief and become a Heartless. I'm just doing what I was told." Prishe said. Nearby, Namine and Nixe were still fighting, exchanging blows with their Keyblades. Namine was doing her best to listen in over the metal-on-metal clashing of their blades.
"Then how do you know Nixe?!" Riku asked as Prishe rolled her eyes.
"I used to babysit her for her Master. She's a good kid but I got press-ganged into working for the Sisterhood. Believe me, I'm not doing this for fun." Prishe replied before Namine suddenly got bowled over by Dash, sending her tumbling across the ground to land near Prishe. Nixe came running up towards where Riku and Violet were, standing ready for action.
"What's got you interested in her?" Nixe asked.
"Let's just say I have a passing interest in figuring out how someone can survive getting stabbed through the back in its most literal sense and walk away without so much as a scratch!" Riku said as Prishe sighed heavily.
"Trust me, it's not something you want unless you're an absolute egomaniac." Prishe replied. From her spot on the ground, Namine glanced towards Nixe and began to subtly enter her memories. As she did, she found surface memories of Prishe that made her eyes widen in shock.
"It's not possible." She whispered in shock. Namine then knew she would have to find an excuse to make Nixe and Riku flee. Luckily she didn't have to come up with one as they heard a loud mechanical shredding sound in the distance.
"Syndrome's men." She said softly. Riku heard hear and his eyes widened.
"Nixe, we need to go!" Riku said as Nixe arched an eyebrow.
"Huh?! But we're winning!" she argued. Suddenly, Namine leapt to her feet, her Keyblade in hand.
"GIVE ME STRENGTH!" She exclaimed as she adopted her Brave Form. She suddenly launched a powerful blast of energy at the forcefield surrounding Prishe, the force of the blast too much for Violet to handle. The shield collapsed, freeing Prishe who landed on one knee with a grin.
"Sorry to disappoint but it looks like we're-UWAHH!" She yelped just as she was batted away by an uprooted palm tree. Namine spun around to see Mr. Incredible standing nearby, the palm tree in hand. Namine then spotted a second person, a woman with short brown hair in a matching mask and costume. She was standing in front of a crashed flying machine, one of Syndrome's flying machines too.
"Mom! Dad! Hey!" Violet exclaimed in surprise. Namine quietly smiled to herself and quickly ducked a swing from Mr. Incredible's tree, quickly bounding over to stand atop a nearby rock formation.
"You haven't seen the last of me!" Namine declared in a faux-villainous fashion while "accidently" dropping a slip of paper before running after where Prishe had flown. (End Battle Music)
"Are you kids alright?" Mr. Incredible asked as his wife, Mrs. Incredible ran up to them.
"Yeah, we're fine thanks to Nixe and Riku." Violet said as Dash rushed up to join them.
"Well we'd have been in trouble had these two not helped out, right Riku?" Nixe asked before noticing that Riku had vanished.
"Riku?" she asked, confused, looking around before spotting him near the rock formation Namine had been standing on a moment ago. He was knelt down over the base of the rock, looking at something.
"What is it?" Nixe asked as she approached.
"Looks like an address. You recognize it?" Riku asked, showing Nixe the paper, causing her eyes to widen.
"Hey, yeah! That's an address in Sublime City! Think we should investigate it?" Nixe asked as Riku nodded.
"Definitely. It's written on Sisterhood stationary. Might be the location of something that could harm the city." Riku said as Nixe glanced towards the Incredibles.
"What about them?" Nixe asked.
"Chances are that the Sister had to abandon her mission when the parents showed up. They're also more interested in you for some reason. I'll bet that if we leave, that'll help take some of the pressure off of them." Riku suggested as Nixe gave a curious expression.
"Huh?"
"Call it a hunch but I think the Sisterhood is after you for some reason. First the woman in Lantern Kingdom, then the one in Dalmatian Plantation, and now here. I'm seeing a trend, aren't you?" Riku asked as Nixe sighed and nodded.
"Yeah…I am now." She replied as she summoned her Keyblade, preparing to transform it into its glider form.
"Hey, wait, you're leaving already?" Mr. Incredible asked as he and his family approached.
"We have to. If we stay, more of those chicks in white will show up and that'll just put you in greater danger." Nixe replied.
"Sorry you have to leave so soon." Violet replied.
"It's for your own safety. Say, I thought you were locked up?" Riku asked Mr. Incredible.
"He was, until I broke him out." Mrs. Incredible said as Mr. Incredible scratched the back of his head with a sheepish smile.
"Good. If you knew what those two from the Sisterhood had planned for you, then it's for the best that you escaped." Riku said as they heard mechanical sounds coming from deeper in the jungles.
"Sounds like more of Syndrome's men are headed this way!" Mr. Incredible said.
"And on that note, we better bolt! Come on, Riku!" Nixe said as she summoned her Keyblade Glider, summoning her armor as Riku leapt on behind her.
"Take care you guys." Nixe said before they rocketed off, leaving the family of supers behind. The four turned towards the source of the noise.
"What do we do now?" Violet asked as Mr. and Mrs. Incredible exchanged knowing smirks.
"Show time." He replied as they dropped into fighting stances, ready to take on whatever came at them, unaware that Neku had witnessed the whole fight and had just alerted the rest of the Reaper's Game.
Back at the Palace of Eternity…
Namine and Prishe had returned via Corridor of Darkness, emerging into Namine's room. Prishe was plucking leaves and branches out of her hair and clothes.
"Man I can't believe we got owned! Such a bummer!" Prishe said but Namine wasn't paying attention, a look of deep thought on her face.
"Sev? You okay?" Prishe asked, snapping Namine back to reality.
"Huh? Yeah I'm fine. I was just trying to figure out what to do about her." Namine said as Prishe shrugged.
"Not much you can do." Prishe replied with a big smile.
"You seem pretty upbeat for someone who just lost." Namine said as Prishe shrugged.
"Heh, well let's just say that in this case, I don't mind losing." Prishe replied before walking off into the castle, leaving Namine to her lonesome. Namine wasn't simply standing and doing nothing though, she was repeatedly replaying memories that she had gleaned from Nixe over-and-over in her mind. The memories were at least seven years old. Nixe was only eight at the time and watching from the windows of the mansion in Sublime City, watching as a hooded First Sister and an armored Si'Lea fought an explosive battle in the courtyard of the First District. As the fight progressed, Nixe caught a glimpse of two yellow eyes piercing the darkness of First's hood, staring straight at her. The sight made her back away in fear only to bump into someone. She turned around and saw Prishe, wearing a purple variation of her clothes, and a tall and handsome man in a black business suit with short black hair holding a tri-barreled pistol.
"Don't worry kid, we'll protect you!" Prishe said, Nixe believing her.
"Ready Vincent?" Prishe asked, cracking her knuckles. Vincent spun the chamber of his gun.
"Let's go." he replied. Namine quietly skipped ahead to a few days later. Nixe was feeling sad, her thoughts dwelling on Prishe for some reason, when she saw a tall figure cloaked in red with long black hair, his left hand encased in a gold colored metal gauntlet. The figure was talking with Si'Lea, who seemed disturbed by what he was telling her.
"…and Prishe? What happened to her Vincent?" Si'Lea asked, dreading the answer. Vincent hung his head in sadness. Si'Lea seemed to understand the implication and lowered her head sadly. Nixe's chest seemed to tighten in grief. Namine couldn't help but pity the poor girl but now she had a new lead in learning Prishe's secret…
…a lead by the name of Vincent Valentine.
End Chapter 38
What is Prishe's secret? Well I know but you'll just have to wait and find out in the chapters to come.
