Chapter 26

"Bobby Singer you answer you're damn phone right now," Addy said into her phone as she got out of the passenger seat of the Impala, "You're worrying me! Just call us back."

She ended the call and shot the brothers a worried look outside a diner in Bobby's home town, Sioux Falls, "He's in a freaking wheel chair. Where the hell could he have gone?"

"He's probably just not home," Dean said in an effort to calm her.

"Yeah," Sam agreed, "We'll just figure it out ourselves."

She sighed, "His place isn't too far from here. Maybe I could drive there and then come back when you guys are done. I'm getting really worried."

"Addy I'm sure it's fine," Dean tried again to reassure her.

"Let's just see if we can figure it out ourselves.

She sighed," Fine."

SUPERNATURAL

Addy had stared down at her phone, willing Boy to call for pretty much the whole conversation with the self proclaimed "Digger."

"I saw Clay Thompson climb into Benny Sutton's trailer through the window. Couple minutes later, Clay walked out, and Benny's dead," the man, obviously a resident drunk, said.

"And, uh..." Dean began, pulling out a photo of the alleged dead man walking and showing it him, "Is this the guy you saw?"

"Well, he was all covered with mud, but, yeah. That's Clay," he said and downed the rest of a beer.

"And you are aware that Clay Thompson died five years ago?" Sam asked.

"Yep," he replied easily.

"And you're positive that it was this guy," Dean repeated.

"You calling me a liar?" Digger asked, growing annoyed.

"No, no, no. Of course not," Sam said quickly, covering for his brother, "Look. Can you think of any reason why Clay Thompson, alive or dead, would want to kill Benny Sutton?"

"Hell, yeah. Well, five years ago, Benny's the one that killed Clay in the first place."

"Is that a fact?" Dean asked as skeptical as Addy was even though she was barely listening.

"Well, yeah, so-called "hunting accident." Now, if you ask me," he looked around then whispered,"... Clay came back from the grave to get a little payback."

"Go on," Dean urged.

Addy watched as a police officer came into the diner, obviously on duty on the phone. She spotted them and she quickly straightened in an effort to look more professional.

"Digger," she said, addressing the man they were talking to.

"Sheriff," he replied in a cold tone.

"I'm Sheriff Jody Mills," she said to the trio, "I don't believe we've had the pleasure."

Per the routine they pulled out their badges and Dean said, "We're agents Dorfman, Neidermeyer, and Finster. FBI."

"Welcome to Sioux Falls," she said with a friendly, but obviously disbelieving smile, "Can I ask you what you're doing with Digger here?"

"They're doing their job. They believe me, Sheriff," Digger said just to get under her skin and Addy wanted the man to shut up more than anything else.

"The FBI believes a dead man committed a murder?" the sheriff asked, looking between them.

"Just asking a few routine questions," Addy said, speaking up.

"Of course, if a dead man didn't commit the murder, then, uh, who did?" Dean challenged and Addy shut her eyes in annoyance.

"What'd you say your jurisdiction here was again?" she asked, not taking Dean's bait.

"Our jurisdiction is wherever the United States government sends us," Dean said and all of them fought the urge to roll their eyes,

"Oh, yeah. How 'bout me and your supervisor have a little chat about that?"

"Absolutely," Sam said and handed her the fake card with Bobby's phone number on it.

They watched as she dialed the number and things all went downhill, "Agent Willis, this is Sheriff Jody Mills… Bobby… Is this Bobby Singer… Bull crap."

She hung and turned back to them with a raised brow, "FBI, huh?"

"So, uh... So you know Bobby Singer?" Sam asked sheepishly.

"That is... a fun coincidence." Dean added.

"You're both idiots," Addy mumbled, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Here's what I know about Bobby Singer. He's a menace around here, ass-full of drunk-and-disorderlies and mail fraud. You understanding me?" she asked in a tone that told them just how exactly she was sheriff.

"Perfectly," Addy said before either of the brothers could talk.

"So, whatever the three of you are planning, it ends here. Now. Ten-four on that, Agents?" she asked sarcastically.

"Ten- four," Addy repeated mimicking her tone as her phone buzzed and she looked to see a text from Bobby.

Come to the house and don't let Sam and Dean inside with you. I'll explain.

SUPERNATURAL

"You guys go see what else you can figure out about what's going on," she said, leaning down to Dean through his car window, "I'll check on Bobby."

"It won't take that long," Dean said, "We can wait."

"No," she said a little too quickly and then caught herself, "I mean we need to figure out what's going on right now. You two go."

"You sure?" Sam asked from the passenger seat.

"Yeah," she said with a nod.

"Alright," Dean said reluctantly, starting the car, "Call us when you find out what the hell's up with him."

"Got it," she said and waited until he drove off to go to Bobby's front door.

"Bobby Singer," she called out to the house as she furiously banged on the door, "You open this door right now or so help me I'll-"

The door swung open and she looked down to see Bobby in his wheelchair, "Girl calm the hell down you'll wake the neighbors."

"Don't tell me to calm the hell down," she said shoving past him into the house, "Why weren't you answering our calls? Why did you tell me to lie to them? What the hell is going on with you?"

"Addy there's something we need to talk about," he said and she stopped panicking to notice how neat he looked ad how the house smelled of…apple pie.

"Bobby why are you all…clean? And why does this place smell like pie?" she asked with narrowed eyes, "And did you know there's a case less than five miles from here. A dead guy apparently killed-"

"Addy listen to me!" he yelled at her and she was taken aback, "There's something going on that you need to know about and you can't tell Sam and Dean."

"What?" she asked carefully as a blonde woman with kind eyes and pale skin emerged from the kitchen. One look at her and Addy knew something was off about her.

"What are you?" she asked the woman.

"Not what," Bobby said gently as she came to put a hand to his shoulder in a loving gesture, "Who. Addy, this is my wife. Karen this is Addy."

Addy looked to the woman and then back at Bobby so many times her head was spinning, "Bobby, you're wife…she's…I'm sorry, but I thought you told me she-"

"Died," he finished with a sigh, "Well yeah it's true but Addy five days ago the dead started rising all over town. All these people, loved ones, they came back and Karen came back for me. I tested her for everything she could possibly be…but Addy this is my wife."

Her heart broke as the two exchanged a loving look, "Bobby, I'm trying to understand. I really am, but this just doesn't make sense."

"There's something else," he said slowly, "Karen wasn't the only one who came back that came to me."

"Who else could have…" Addy trailed off as another blonde head emerged from the kitchen with bright blue eyes and a pink shirt, her favorite color.

"Hi Kit," Rose said with a small smile and teary eyes.

She just stared at her for the longest time, her heart beating in her ears.

"I was kind of hoping for a hug," she said with a sad smile.

"Rose?" she asked, finally finding her voice.

"It's me, Kit," she said and they flung into each others arms with happy tears, "Oh my God I missed you so much."

"I'm sorry," Addy cried, "I'm so sorry I let Mason kill you."

"No," Rose said, pulling away to look her in the eye, "He did the right thing. That demon inside me would have told the whole world where you were and then you would have never been free again. It wasn't your fault. If I had to die for anyone I'm glad it was you."

Addy tightened her in her embrace again and held her tight.

"Addy," she heard Bobby say and she turned to him, "We can't tell the boys. At least not until we figure this out."

"Okay," she said, nodding in agreement, "I won't tell them."

SUPERNATURAL

"Dean, I'm telling you it's nothing," she said, pacing the length of the living room as she talked into her cell phone, "The lighting omen is just because it's storm season and apparently this Benny Sutton guy who was killed was an ass. There are plenty of people in this town who'd love to ice him."

"Addy, you heard that Digger guy. He-"

"Digger's a drunk," she said forcefully, "Bobby already looked into this. There's nothing here. We wasted time on this one."

She heard him sigh, "Alright I'll come get you."

"Actually I think I'm going to hang out with Bobby for a while," she said and then added, "He doesn't seem like himself right now. I want to keep an eye on him."

"Well than I guess we'll see you soon," he said and she could hear a small bit of skepticism in his voice. Ever since their fight things between them were strained to say the least.

"Yeah," she replied, "Let me know when you guys get to the next case."

"Sure," he said and added slowly, "Look I know things between us have been weird but-"

"Dean can we not talk about this right now," she said quickly.

"Okay," he said with disappointment, "Later."

"Later," she said and ended the call as Rose came in with two mugs and handed one to her. She looked down to see it was hot chocolate as she took it with a grateful smile and they settled on the couch.

"You know Karen can really cook," Rose said, taking a sip of hers, "I haven't eaten this much since…well since I died."

Addy looked at her sadly," Rose I'm sorry to do this to you but is there anything and I do mean anything, no matter how insignificant you can tell me about what's going on with you."

She shook her head, "All I remember is waking up in the cemetery. I'm guessing that's where you put my ashes."

"Yeah," she said with a nod.

"Thanks for that," she said with a gentle smile, "I know no one else claimed me."

As amazing, kind, and just all around good Rose was she'd had a crappy life. Her parents had died when she was young leaving absolutely no family to care for her so she ended up in the foster system with one horrible family after another. When she turned eighteen she went away for college and Addy was all she had left.

"Rose I know I already said it but I'm so sorry," she said, blinking back tears, " I should have tried harder to save you. I shouldn't have even brought Mason into it in the first place."

"I take it you dumped him," she said with a playful smirk.

Addy scoffed and said darkly," I woke up after he knocked me out and all I saw was your body and I just lost it. I beat the shit out of him. I even thought about killing him for it, but I couldn't do it."

"And you shouldn't have," Rose said, putting a hand to her shoulder, "As much as I hate that son of a bitch…he was just protecting you and that's something I can understand."

Addy smiled, "I missed you so much."

"Of course you did," she said with a dramatic hair flip, "I'm me."

Addy laughed and set her mug down as Rose finished hers, "I'm serious though. It's good to have you here."

"It's good to be here," she said with a smile, "Speaking of which. It's been a while so how old are you exactly because I swear to God you look the same as when I last saw you. How old are you?"

She chuckled," Twenty five."

"You still look like you just got out of high school," she said and then added with a more serious tone, "but there is something different about you."

"What?" she asked with a frown.

"You eyes," she said, searching them as she spoke, "They're not as bright as I remember. They're sad."

She took a deep breath, "A lot's happened in five years."

"Well I'm here now," she said, holding her hand in hers, "Talk to me."

Karen came out of the kitchen, "Hey girls I just finished a batch of cookies."

"Ooh girl talk and cookies," Rose said, pulling Addy up, "Just what you need. Karen makes the best cookies and gives the best advice."

Addy couldn't help but smile as Rose pulled her along.

SUPERNATURAL

Two hours, three batches of cookies and a pie later Addy had told both Karen and Rose her entire story. Starting from her break up with Mason to where she was now.

"Wow," Rose said when it was all over, "I die and all shit hits the fan."

Addy snorted a laugh along with Karen who chuckled. In the short time she'd know her, Addy really liked Bobby's wife. She was motherly, caring, and kind. She had her own mother, but there was only certain things she could say to her because of how fragile she was.

"Sounds to me like you've had a hard couple of years," Karen said gently.

Addy shrugged, "I guess you could say that."

"So about this Dean guy…"Rose said innocently.

"What about him?" Addy asked with narrowed eyes.

"You like him," she sing songed while poking her repeatedly, "You wanna bang him. You think he's sexy."

"Cut it out," she said, laughing as she smacked her hands away.

"You two are so funny," Karen said and Addy glanced at the clock to see it was past midnight, "Wow it's late."

"Come on let's go pass out to a movie," Rose said, flouncing off to the living room and calling over her shoulder, "I'm picking."

"You two go on," Karen said, "I'm not quite tired yet."

"Alright," Addy said, getting up from her chair and then said to her, "Thank you."

She winked, "No problem."

SUPERNATURAL

Addy twitched in her sleep as Rose was wide awake, staring at the TV as some movie she was guessing came out while she was dead was on. Karen was still cooking in the kitchen. Neither of them ever slept and while it worried her she couldn't bring herself to make it a bad thing. It just gave her more time to spend with the one person who always cared about her.

She heard the door open and she guessed Bobby was back from wherever he'd gone. The old man was so kind to her. It wasn't everyday a dead girl shows up on your back porch.

She heard voices that weren't Karen or Bobby's and she got up to investigate, careful not to disturb Addy. She didn't make her appearance known right away as she listened in.

"Oh, hey. I didn't realize you were bringing company," she heard Karen say in her usually sweet tone.

"It's four a.m., babe. You didn't need to cook," Bobby said and Rose couldn't help but smile at how sweet he was to his wife.

"Oh, please! I'll get some more plates," she said and hurried back into the kitchen.

"Who was that?" an unfamiliar male voice asked.

"Karen. My wife, " Bobby explained slowly.

"Your new wife?" another unfamiliar male voice asked.

"My dead wife," Bobby clarified, "and she's not the only one."

"We know there's the guy that killed-"

"No I meant she's not the only one in this house."

"Wait, isn't Addy here with you?" Dean asked, "Where the hell is she? How is she okay with this? She told me there was nothing going on."

"Because she knew you wouldn't understand," Rose said, deciding to make her presence known. From the looks on who she figured were Sam and Dean's faces they knew exactly who she was. More importantly they knew she was dead.

"Bobby what the hell?" the shorter one screamed so she knew it was Dean.

"What is with all the screaming?" Addy asked, walking while rubbing her eyes and smoothing back her hair. She took in the scene and looked from Rose to the brothers, "Oh fuck."

"Why the hell wouldn't you tell me that she was back from the dead?" Dean yelled at her, pointing an accusing finger at Rose.

"Because I wanted time to figure out what was going," she replied, standing protectively in front of her friend.

"And you didn't think I could help with that?" he asked ,obviously pissed.

Rose watched the two's exchange. While it was obvious they had their issues she could tell they cared deeply for each other.

"I hate to break up this little lover's quarrel but I'm smelling pie," Rose said, attempting to diffuse the tension, "Come on Kit."

She pulled her off in the direction of the kitchen and they had no choice to follow suit.

SUPERNATURAL

Dean ate the pie eagerly, but Addy knew not to grow too comfortable.

"This is incredible, Mrs. Singer," Dean said between forkfuls. Addy couldn't help but twitch in a smile. Even in the most dire situations he still found time to enjoy pie.

"Thank you, Dean," Karen said.

Rose lightly nudged Addy with her elbow and Addy looked to her as she mouthed, "He's hot."

Addy shoved her back with a warning look and she snorted a laugh.

"It's great, Karen. Thanks. Could you, um, just give us a minute?" Bobby asked her and with no questions left the room, "Uh, you too Rose. If you don't mind."

"I mind," she replied simply and leaned forward on the table making sure they knew she was staying.

"Rose really," Addy said lightly, "Maybe you shouldn't-"

"Look this obviously has to do with me," she said with a shrug, "So I'm staying."

"Okay fine," Dean said and looked between Addy and Bobby, "Are you two crazy?"

"Dean, I can explain," Bobby began but Dean didn't give him a chance.

"Explain what? Lying to us? Or the American girl zombie making cupcakes in your kitchen?"

"First of all, that's my wife, so watch it," Bobby warned.

"And not to mention life size Barbie," Dean said, gesturing to Rose and Addy knew she'd take offense.

"Hey," Rose said, crossing her arms over her chest, going into what she used to call her don't fuck with me mode, "My name is Rose. And I'm the fucking War Times Barbie so you best watch it."

Addy bit her lip to keep from laughing.

"Still," Sam said gently and shot Rose a wary look, "You might not be you."

Rose raised a brow," And tell how exactly I'm not me oh great and mighty GI Joe on steroids?"

Addy full on snorted a laugh and Dean shot her a look.

"You think this is funny?" he asked accusingly.

"Just a little," she said, clenching her jaw as the tension between them grew thick.

"This ain't funny, princess," Dean said in a serious tone.

She scoffed, "Maybe it isn't Dean, but my best friend who I failed in saving is back from the dead. You're damn right I'm going to enjoy this. So don't lecture me on what I did right or wrong here because you should know better than anyone the lengths to go to when someone you love dies."

That quieted him and she felt on slightly guilty for bringing up the demon deal that had sent him to hell.

She sighed and regained her composure, "Besides she's not the only one."

"How many?" Sam asked.

"15, 20, I made a list, "he said, handing Sam a piece of paper from his pocket," Uh, there's Karen... Rose…Clay... Sheriff Mills, her little boy came back."

"And there were no signs? No omens?" Sam continued.

"Well, there were the lightning storms," he confessed.

"That's what we said," Dean added, shooting Addy a look that she'd have hell to pay for lying to him, "What else?"

"And through the fire stood before me a pale horse. And he that sat atop him carried a scythe, and I saw since he had risen, they, too, shall rise, and from him and through him," Bobby quoted.

"It's death," Addy said warily.

"As in the freaking horseman?" Rose asked and she nodded, "You really weren't exaggerating when you said it's going down."

"Awesome. Another horseman. Must be Thursday," Dean said in a casual tone.

"Well whatever it is I can't say I'm complaining," Rose said and Addy shot her a smile.

"Right now you're not," Dean said, glaring at her, "but trust me when this goes south and it will something will go real bad, real fast and we can't afford to-"

"Oh my God Dean would you just stop!" she yelled at him, "Can't you just see this as a good thing? I have my best friend back. Bobby got his wife. There's a little boy who's back with his family. Why are you bashing all over this?"

"Because you may not remember but let's not forget she threw you out a fucking window and killed you Addy," he yelled back and she looked to Rose with wide eyes whose expression went from confused to horrified.

"What is he talking about?" she asked Addy with wide eyes, "You told me you died but I thought…did I really…"

"No, Rose," she said quickly, "It wasn't your fault. You were controlled by something."

"Oh my God I killed you," she said and put her hand over her mouth in horror than fled the kitchen.

Addy turned back to Dean and said in a furious tone, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Nothing's wrong with me," he said, growing annoyed, "But there is something wrong with your little friend. She's fucking dead Addy."

"So was I!" she snapped and they all went quiet, "Twice might I add and I came back. You never once questioned that."

"That's different," he argued.

"You know I wanted to tell you," she said in a cold yet quiet voice, "I thought you of all people could understand. You sold your soul to bring Sam back from the dead! You came back from hell!"

"And what happens when we find out what she really is?" he challenged, "Huh? What then?"

"I know you're pissed at me but I didn't think you'd go as low as to ruin the one good thing that's come out of the world ending!" she yelled and then went after Rose.
