Infinity and Beyond

-Chapter 38-

Game Change, Part Two

"Who the hell are you?" A dark-skinned man says to Michael as mommy and I walk into the room.

"Relax, Tony." Mommy tells Tony. "We're not going to hurt you." Mommy says before crouching down in front of me.

"Sweetie, mommy and Michael need to talk to this man." Mommy says to me. "Why don't you go and play with the unfinished puzzle you started earlier?"

"Okay, mommy." I nod before going to where my Cinderella puzzle is.

"Sorry about your jaw." Michael says to him.

"Listen carefully." Mommy says to Tony. "Right now, you're an escaped convict, and we're accomplices in your break out. The problem is, a secret unit of the government is going to suppress who we're. But you're still going to be the focus of a nationwide manhunt."

"This... Is a set-up." Tony breathes out worriedly.

"Well, according to the information we have, you're already set-up." Michael says. "Back in the day. Why?"

"If you know I'm not guilty, then why break me out?" Tony sounds unhappy. "Why not present your information to the ACCA? Or to the civilian press?"

"We know you were threatened, Tony." Michael says.

"Me?" Tony frowns.

"Yeah." Michael nods.

"No." Tony shakes his head angrily. "They didn't threaten me. They threatened my son! If I say anything, they will kill him. They told me they will not hesitate!"

"Who?" Mommy asks quickly.

"I didn't get a name." Tony says loudly. "Right after I got arrested, he came to visit me. He asked me why I stashed away the evidence. I figured he was a part of the conspiracy, so I told him where he can stick it! He told me that my son Justin would pay the price. I told him that just as long as you do not touch him, my mouth will stay shut and that evidence will stay gone."

"You let the whole world think you're guilty..." Mommy says sadly.

"I don't care!" Tony says angrily. "But Justin... It killed me that I couldn't tell him. He grew up hating me, he wouldn't even come to visit me. But that's what's keeping him safe, until today. I know you guys think that you're helping me, but you've just made it worse."

Mommy and Michael look at each other sadly, before glancing at me, making me tilt my head silently. Mommy looks back to Tony. "We'll find Justin, and we'll make sure he's safe." Mommy tells him...

"Birkhoff has graciously allowed us to use one of his cars." Michael says to mommy as he walks into the room while I'm drawing a picture. "I think he's second guessing rescuing us."

"He's right, you know. Birkhoff, about us." Mommy sounds a little worried. "We are completely out of the loop about some very important things. Like Amanda being in charge of Division? Percy under lockdown? The game is changing..."

"Maybe so." Michael nods. "But we do have the black box. And the information inside it is what they fear the most. We might not expose it, but we can still use it to ruin them."

"I... I'm scared, Michael." Mommy sounds as if she might cry soon. "What will happen if we lose this fight?" Mommy's words are making me a little nervous...

I stand up and walk over to mommy and Michael. I wrap my arms around mommy's legs. "Mommy, hug-hug..." I tilt my head up to look at her. "Mommy, nothing bad will happen, right?"

"You shouldn't say things like that in front of Infinity, Nikita. You'll make her worry." Michael smiles a little at her. "At the very least, the three of us are together, right?"

"Yeah..." Mommy looks as if she's trying hard to smile as she picks me up into her arms before Michael wraps his arms around both me and mommy...

Mommy went out to do something. Michael, Tony, and Birkhoff are watching a video on computer screen while I'm sitting on the floor and playing with Play-Doh.

Music is coming from Birkhoff's computer. "Do you see Justin?" Michael asks Tony.

"Not yet." Tony says. "It's been eight years though."

"His credit card was charged just a few minutes ago, he's got a beer." Birkhoff says quietly.

"Michael, Division's on sight, possible grab team." Mommy's voice sounds through Birkhoff's computer. My red lips smile a little. I like to hear mommy's voice.

"Okay, copy that. Setting a smoke screen." Michael tells her before murmuring to Birkhoff. "Make that call."

"Remember what you promised..." Birkhoff starts.

"I'll let them know that we're not working together." Michael interrupts him as he walks over to me and crouches down in front of me. "Listen, pumpkin, I need you to hide behind the couch for a little while, okay? Just until I finish a video call."

"Okay." I nod before standing up and walking over to hide behind Birkhoff's couch.

Then, Michael turns to Birkhoff again. "Keep an eye on Infinity for me."

"Sure." Birkhoff sighs as Michael's doing something with a big, black, standing camera. Behind him, is a big black screen.

"Hey there." Michael says once the screen lights up with Amanda's face "Long time no see."

"Michael, this is a nice coincidence." Amanda says, but she doesn't sound very nice.

"Why's that?" Michael asks.

"Because I was just thinking about you." Amanda says.

"Well, you were always very thoughtful." Michael sounds as if he doesn't really believe what he's saying. "That's why I decided to reach out. See if we can make a deal."

"You give me the black box, I call off the hounds." Amanda says. What are hounds? 'Hounds: hunting dogs.' Dogs? Does Amanda have pet dogs?

"One thing at a time." Michael says. "I give you the evidence Captain Merik stashed, and you call off the men you have sent out for him. Maybe you can... Officially fake his death. You're good at that."

"You are as well." Amanda says. "By the way, where's Nikita? Shouldn't I be speaking to the person in charge?"

"I'm in charge now." Michael says. I'm getting sleepy...

"You know this brinksmanship is truly pointless." Amanda says. "Your conflict with Division is really a conflict with Percy and he's been removed."

"Are you offering me my old job?" Michael and Amanda sounds as if they don't like each other very much.

"I too want to clean up the dirt he saved up on that box." Amanda says. I rub my eyes as they're starting to feel a little heavy...

"Yeah, I know exactly how you like to clean things up." Michael says unhappily.

Just then, I hear footsteps before I hear Birkhoff's voice. "You guys think you're bad ass, huh?" Birkhoff sounds as if he doesn't like Amanda either. "You're nothing. You're air. It takes a squadron of your rejects to even get close to me and I want you to die knowing that!" He sounds as if he's VERY proud of himself.

It's getting harder to keep my eyes open as I lay down on the floor...

Then, I hear footsteps again before Michael's voice returns. "By the way, Birkhoff's not working with us..."

That's the last thing I hear before falling asleep...

I wake up to the feeling of mommy's arms around me as I'm sitting on her lap. Mommy must have picked me up while I was asleep. I love mommy!

Mommy kisses the top of my head as I rub my eyes. "You shouldn't sleep on the floor, sweetie." Mommy says as she hugs me close to her. "You'll catch a cold."

"I love you, mommy." I hug her back and rub my cheek on her chest.

"I love you too." Mommy tilts my head up and kisses my lips.

Just then, Michael walks into the room with a bowl of hot soup and a spoon. "Here's the veggie soup you asked for." Michael says to mommy as he puts the bowl of soup onto the empty table in front of us.

"Thanks." Mommy gives Michael a quick smile before looking at me. "Let's finish this before dinner time, okay?"

"Okay." I nod before mommy starts feeding the soup to me. She blows on it before giving me a spoonful so my mouth doesn't get burned.

I open my mouth wide as mommy's feeding it to me. "So we know from the box that there are six members on Oversight." Michael says to mommy. "That's one down, five to go. That means we're one step closer to home."

"I don't know..." Mommy mutters as she puts the spoon down and hugs me close to her. "Don't get me wrong. I want to give Infinity a proper home. I want to give her everything I never had. I want to give her all the love in the world..."

"You're already doing that, Nikita." Michael smiles a little at mommy as he rubs my head. "You gave her a family. You gave her a father that would do anything to protect her and keep her safe. And you gave her a mother who loves her in the most unconditional way possible..."

'Unconditional: nothing will change or affect it.' That sounds like a REALLY good thing...

Then, Michael looks at me with a smile. "Right, pumpkin?"

"Uh-huh." I nod with a VERY happy smile. "I LOVE mommy and Michael and I'm REALLY happy!"

Michael looks at mommy with a crooked smile. "See?"

Mommy looks as if she might cry a little. "Is mommy sad?" I hug mommy and tilt my head so my lips would brush her cheek.

"No, honey." Mommy smiles a little and pulls me even closer to her before I feel her lips on my forehead. "Mommy's very happy..."

I look between mommy and Michael with a small giggle. "Mommy and Michael, kissy faces?"

I tilt my head when I see both mommy and Michael's faces turning a little red. Why are they turning red? But mommy and Michael are both smiling.

"Oh sweetie..." Mommy laughs a little as she tilts my head to her chest. Then, mommy looks at Michael... She looks at me again for a short moment before looking at Michael again before their lips slowly touch...
