PLEASE READ!: Hey guys, I apologize for being slow on this update. I'm thinking about writing a new story for Maggie Q's new TV show: Stalker. It'll be similar to this story in that it will be about Beth Davis's (Maggie Q's new character) four years old daughter (who will be my original character). Don't worry, this story will still be continued. Anyways, I would really like to know if you guys think I should write it, so please tell me in your reviews or you can PM me. I would REALLY appreciate it!

Infinity and Beyond

-Chapter 39-

Falling Ash, Part One

I'm sitting on mommy's lap as mommy and I are playing with what the grown-ups call a snow globe. It's a big glass ball with a little house and little trees inside it and a big, colorful rock that's stuck to the glass ball.

Everytime mommy tilts it, little white things float around inside it. My almond-shaped dark brown eyes looks at it happily as the little white things look like snow.

"It's pretty, mommy." My oval-shaped face smiles.

"Hmm..." Mommy's lips brush on my cheek warmly as she hugs me from behind. "Yes, it is."

Just then, Birkhoff walks in the front door with a big, brown paper bag. "Hey, Birkhoff, I need to use your computer, is that cool?" Birkhoff says in a voice that doesn't sound like his own. "Sure, Nikki. Thanks for asking."

"Birkhoff, I need to borrow a hundred grand, is that cool?" Mommy rolls her eyes at him.

"See how easy that..." Birkhoff starts before stopping for a moment as his eyes widens. "Wait a minute... What?!"

"We've a lead that can help us identify another member of Oversight." Mommy says as she's looking at Birkhoff's computer.

"We've a lead?!" Birkhoff sounds as if he can't believe what he's hearing.

"Spence Meister." Mommy says. "He's doing business with an Oversight member. One of his staff members is willing to sell us the identity, but he needs a lot of money, and in twenty four hours, so... We're also going to have to take your jet to Lisbon."

"Hmm... No." Birkhoff says unhappily.

"No?" Mommy raises an eyebrow at him as she stands up, picking up with her.

"Get used to that sound, baby." Birkhoff says. "Cause I'm not joining you on some crusade against Oversight. And you... Are not taking my jet anywhere."

My dark eyebrows squeeze closer together in a frown. Why's he calling mommy baby. Mommy's not a baby...

"Right." Mommy nods unhappily. "Because this is about you, right Shadowwalker?"

I tilt my head silently at mommy's words. Can shadows walk?

"Well, it is my life..." Birkhoff sighs as he sits down on the chair mommy was sitting on before. "And my house. In fact, I think you and Mikey should start looking for new digs."

"Mommy, are we digging a hole?" I ask as I scratch the back of my head.

"No, sweetie." Mommy laughs a little as she hugs me closer to her. "Birkhoff's just telling us to find a new place to live."

Her words makes my red lips pout as I look at Birkhoff sadly. "But I don't wanna leave..."

For a moment, Birkhoff looks as if he's chocking on something as he doesn't look very comfy. He looks as if he REALLY wants to look away from me.

"Don't look at me like that..." He mutters as he lowers his head to looks at his feet. "I've got lots to lose..." He murmurs and is just about to walk away before Michael walks into the room.

"What's going on?" Michael looks between the three of us with a frown.

"Your little pipsqueak is trying to convince me to let you stay with her cuteness." Birkhoff rolls his eyes before he quickly looks at me again as I'm still staring at him whinily.

"Oh..." He groans. "Don't look at me like that..."

Then, Birkhoff looks at mommy grumpily. "You make her stop!"

"Sorry." Mommy sounds as if she might laugh. "Nothing I can do."

"Aww..." Michael smiles as he walks over to me and mommy. "Come here, pumpkin." He says as he takes me from mommy's arms and into his own.

Birkhoff looks at mommy, Michael, and I unhappily. "This is not funny." He says grouchily as he crosses his arms. "I don't need an entire three feet of puppy-eyed cuteness..."

"Alright, honey, why don't you go and play?" Mommy laughs a little as Michael puts me down on the floor. "Mommy and Michael have some work to do, okay?"

"Okay." I nod before running off to play with my toys...

Mommy walks into the room with Birkhoff while I'm playing with my toys. "Hi, honey." Mommy crouches down in front of me with a smile while Birkhoff's just standing beside mommy.

"Mommy!" I smile as I hug her.

"Listen, sweetie." Mommy says as she picks me up into her arms. "Mommy and Michael have to go out for a bit. Can you be a good girl and stay here with Birkhoff for a little while?"

"Is he gonna play with me?" I tilt my head.

"I don't really..." Birkhoff starts.

"Yes, he is." Mommy interrupts him loudly before looking at him with raised eyebrows.

Birkhoff's silent for a moment before sighing. "Yeah, sure. I can do that."

"Okay, honey?" Mommy smiles at me.

"Okay." I nod.

"Good girl." Mommy kisses my cheek before putting me back down on the floor. "Mommy and Michael will be back in a little while..."

Birkhoff and I are playing on his computer as I'm sitting on his lap. We're playing with a little bunny on his computer. And everytime, it jumps onto a word, I've to try and read it.

If I get it right, the bunny jumps higher and higher. The bunny jumps on a word that says m-o-m. I try to sound it out. "M-oh-m."

Something in my tummy feels as if water's falling out of a balloon. Everything I see becomes fuzzy as my eyes grows wet. "Mommy..."

"Whoa..." Birkhoff murmurs a little nervously. "You wanna play something else?"

"I want mommy..." I start crying a little.

"She... She and Michael will be back soon." Birkhoff tells me quietly. "Do you want something to eat?"

"I miss mommy and Michael..." I cry and sniffle.

"Shh..." Birkhoff sounds as if he doesn't know what to do. "Do you want me to tell you a story? I'll tell you a story about your mom and Michael?"

"Okay." I hiccup tearfully.

"Well..." Birkhoff starts. "I guess you can say that Michael was your mom's teacher."

I tilt my head. "What did he teach mommy?"

"Uh... Lots of things." Birkhoff says. "He taught her to protect herself, to protect you..."

"Michael's nice, right?" I sniffle before smiling a little.

"Right." Birkhoff nods. "Anyways, Michael and your mom loved each other more and more, and eventually, they had you."

I'm starting to get a little sleepy... "How does that happen?" My oval-shaped face frowns as I let out a yawn.

I don't know why, but Birkhoff's face quickly turns red. "BUT... At first, they couldn't protect you, so they had to gave you to someone else to keep you safe."

"But mommy and Michael found me again." I say.

"Yep." Birkhoff says. "And now, they're protecting you and keeping you safe."

I feel my eyes growing wet again. "When are they coming back?" I cry a little as I'm starting to feel tired.

"Soon." Birkhoff tells me. "Are you tired? Do you want to take a nap? Maybe after a nap, they'll be back."

"But I want mommy to hold me..." I pout and whine as my eyes feel heavier.

"Well..." Birkhoff looks around before he sees Lily, my stuffed panda. "Can you just hug your panda for a little while? When Nikki comes back, I'll tell her to give you a big hug, okay?"

"Nuh-uh." I shake my head tiredly before raising my arms towards him. "Can you hold me?"

"I uh..." Birkhoff sounds and looks as if he might not want to. Does he not like me? Something in my tummy feels as if I've just eaten a VERY sour lemon...

Everything I see is starting to turn fuzzy as my sleepy eyes are getting wet again. "You... You don't like me?" I sniffle and cry a little.

"Please don't cry..." Birkhoff sounds a little nervous as I rub my tired and wet eyes. I don't like being tired, it doesn't feel nice...

"But..." My tears are starting to fall as I hiccup. "But... I miss... Mommy... And Michael... And... And you... Won't... Hold me!" I cry louder.

"Okay! Okay!" Birkhoff says loudly as he quickly picks me up. "Alright, just don't cry!"

I wrap my arms around him with a loud sniffle before laying my head on his shoulder. Birkhoff sits down with me on his lap as I close my eyes so I can fall asleep...

"Sweetie?" I hear mommy's voice calling me, but I'm too sleepy. I only whine as I try to lean towards mommy's voice. I think I'm laying on a couch.

I feel mommy's soft hands touch me as she gently picks me up and into her warm arms. "Mommy, hold me..." I mumble as I'm still half-asleep.

I feel mommy rubbing my head and kissing me. "Sleep some more, honey." She whispers to me softly. "Mommy's right here."

"We've got to raid the clinic and grab them!" Owen's voice sounds loudly. Owen's here?

"Mommy..." I whimper and whine sleepily as I try to move my arms to hug her.

Mommy hugs me closer to her. "Owen, not so loud." Mommy tells him before rubbing my head softly.

"Sorry." Owen says in a quieter voice.

"Nikita, why don't you take Infinity to bed?" Michael says. "Owen and I have got it covered from here."

"Yeah." Mommy says as I feel her standing up and picking me up with her. "I will, but keep me informed on your progress..."

That's the last thing I hear before I start feeling as if I'm a balloon that's floating away...
