Chapter 31
"Addy give me a call when you get this," Dean said, pacing back and forth in their motel room.
The door opened and Sam walked in with a slight stagger.
"Where you been?" Dean asked, taking a seat on the one of the beds.
"Drinkin'," he answered lazily, obviously a bit tipsy.
"You rebel," he replied sarcastically.
"I'd have had more, um, but it was curfew," Sam said bitterly.
"Right," Dean replied with no emotion, "You seen Addy?"
"She was with Leah when I went to look for her," he replied and Dean visibly relaxed, "You hear they shut down the cell towers?"
"No. That's, uh, news to me," he said tiredly and ran a hand over his face.
"Yeah. No cable, internet. Total cut off from the corruption of the outside world. They're turning this place into some kind of fundamentalist compound."
"I get it," he said carelessly as Sam took a seat on the other bed, facing him.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked his brother in concern.
"I get it. I just don't care," he said.
"What?" Sam asked in confusion.
"What difference does it make?" Dean said with a shrug.
"At what point does this become too far for you? Stoning? Poisoned Kool-Aid? The angels are toying with these people!"
"Angel world, angel rules, man."
"And since when is that okay with you?"
"Since the angels' got the only lifeboats on the Titanic. I mean, who exactly is supposed to come along and save these people? It was supposed to be us, but we can't do it," he said, finally showing emotion as he angrily poured himself a cup of coffee.
"So all that stuff about not giving up you spewed to Addy was just BS?" Sam asked with a scoff.
He sighed, "Don't bring her into this."
"She's counting on you, Dean," Sam asked, knowing he'd hit a nerve, "You love her and she loves you. Don't take this away from her. I already screwed things up for her once. You have her. All of her. I never got that because she was too afraid and she had every right to be. She's happy with you. That alone should be enough to…you know what… you wanna just want to stop fighting, roll over?"
"I don't know, maybe," he said, taking a sip of his coffee as if what he just said hadn't destroyed his brother.
"Don't say that."
"Why not?"
"Cause you can't do this."
"Actually, I can."
"No you can't," Sam said, rising to his feet from the bed, "You can't do this to me. I got one thing, one thing, keeping me going. You think you're the only one white-knuckling it here, Dean? I can't count on anyone else. I can't do this alone."
Dean set his cup down and went for the door, grabbing his jacket on the way, "I got to clear my head."
With that he was out the door and quietly Sam said, "It's past curfew."
SUPERNATURAL
Addy started walking towards the motel room. She shouldn't have spent so much time with Leah. They'd talked about a lot. She felt like she could trust her. She'd ended up falling asleep at the church for a few hours too.
Just as she was getting close to her room, Dean emerged from his with Sam.
"Dean," she called and as soon as they met eyes she knew something was wrong. They started walking towards each other and when she was close enough he pulled her to him. This was his only safe place. The only thing that was absolutely right.
"What's wrong?" she asked when they pulled away.
"I-I- Addy, we have to talk," he said and she nodded, "Let's take a walk. Maybe Paul's bar is still open. Sound good?"
"Yeah," she said and they began walking slowly, hand in hand.
"Dean, what's bugging you?" she asked after walking the whole time in silence. They were close to the bar and they still hadn't said a word.
"I…" he began, searching her wide, hopeful eyes, "I love you."
"I know that," she said with a small smile, "That might be the only thing I'm sure of actually. Well, besides the fact I love you too but are you sure everything's okay?"
"Yeah," he said and gave her a light kiss, "I was just really worried when you didn't call me for a few hours."
She got a glassy look in her eye which quickly disappeared, "Actually I needed to tell you something too. I was talking to Leah and she helped me realize something."
"What?" he asked, stroking her cheek.
"How selfish I am," she said as she suddenly started to cry and Dean wiped away her tears.
"Hey no you're not selfish," he said, trying to console, "You're anything but selfish. What the hell did Leah tell you?"
"She didn't tell me anything," holding his hands in her own, "We just talked and the more I talked the more I realized the world needs you more than I need you."
"What are you saying?" he asked with a frown.
"I keep getting told to tell you to say yes," she sobbed, "and I told myself it was because you deserved a choice but really it was because of what I wanted. If saying yes to Michael is the right thing and we can't save the world…I'm the only thing standing in the way. I'm the reason this whole world will burn."
He stared at her, silent as she continued to cry. He couldn't believe what he'd heard from her. She was telling him to give him. She was giving him her blessing. A loud crash and yelling startled him from his thoughts.
"What was that?" she asked, wiping away her tears furiously.
"The bar," Dean said and they ran to it and inside to see Ron and Paul fighting over a bat while Pastor Gideon tried to break it up. Jane stood by watching the whole exchange with no remorse as well as a few others.
"Need a hand, Padre?" Dean asked.
"Just, everybody cool down for a minute!" Pastor Gideon yelled over them all.
"Cool down?" he repeated and looked to Dean and Addy, "My friends are trying to run me out of town. Do you think I should cool down?"
"I'm sorry, Paul. It is not our choice," Rob said with no real hint of regret.
"Oh, come on. That's bull," he replied, calling him out, "We grew up together. I stood up at your wedding!"
"Yes, you did. But that was then. And now you're standing against the flock," Jane said icily.
"That's not true, "Paul argued, "I fight with you. "
"This is a town of believers, Paul, "she replied, "You are not a believer."
"Don't make this hard for us," Rob said.
"Hard for you? No. This is my home. You want me out of here?" he asked, rounding the bar to face them, "You'll have to drag me out."
"Woah everyone just calm down," Addy said, stepping in front of Paul, "This is your friend."
"Don't tell us what to do," Rob said to her, "You don't know us."
"Maybe not but I can tell you that dragging your childhood friend from the only home he's ever had is wrong," she said, stepping up to him, "And if you want to get to him. You got through me."
"Get out of my way," Rob said and barely shoved her aside but Dean delivered a hard punch to his jaw and restrained him. Before they even knew what was happening, a shot rang out. Addy's line of vision went from Jane holding a gun to Paul dropping to the floor, blood on his chest.
"No one's gonna stop me from seeing my son again," she whispered.
Dean and the pastor scrambled to Paul as Addy disarmed Jane. She and Dean exchanged an alarmed look.
SUPERNATURAL
Addy stood outside the church, blood on her hands, Paul's blood. She's tried to save him but he was too far gone and for some reason her magic was too weak. It was morning and her and Dean had spent all night trying to save him. Dean had left to go back to the motel and tell Sam what had happened. She stayed, wanting to help in any way she could.
"Good call trying to save him. More drama," Leah said, coming to her with a towel, "Use this to clean your hands. You have enough blood on them as it is."
"Thank you," Addy said with a small smile and took it from her, "I told Dean what you asked me to tell him."
"And did it hurt you?" Leah asked with a smile.
"Yes," Addy said with sad eyes, "It hurt so much."
Leah pulled her into a hug and began slowly stroking her head, "Good. I'm glad it hurt. Once we're done with this town you and I will continue Lucifer's work together and Dean would just get in you way. Right?"
"Right," she said with glassy eyes.
"Good," Leah replied, letting her go, "Now come inside. Our work isn't done yet"
SUPERNATURAL
"Leah is not a real prophet," Sam said as Dean washed the blood off his hands in the motel sink.
"Well, what is she, exactly?" Dean asked, drying his hands.
"The whore," Cas said simply.
"Wow. Cas, tell us what you really think," Dean said sarcastically.
"She rises when Lucifer walks the earth. And she shall come, bearing false prophecy," Cas quoted and turned the book so Dean could see it, "This creature has the power to take a human's form, read minds. Book of Revelation calls her the Whore of Babylon."
"Addy is with her right now," Dean said, taking out his cell phone and going to call her.
"It's too late for Adriana," Cas said and Dean turned to him, "She is a daughter of Lilith with demon in her lineage so she is susceptible to the Whore's control. I strongly suspect she already is. Has she said or done anything out of character for her?"
"Yeah, "Dean said, putting his head in his hands as he thought back to her confession last night, "I knew something was up. Damn it and I left her there."
"Do not despair," Cas said, "We kill the Whore and it breaks her control."
"So, then, how do we go Pimp of Babylon all over this bitch?" Dean asked with a sigh, "I want my girlfriend back."
SUPERNATURAL
Addy helped shove the so called sinners into the closet with the rest of them and she was happy to do so. She knew what was really going on. She knew what Leah truly was but this was her destiny as Lilith's daughter. She was supposed to help with destruction.
At first she'd been reluctant to follow her orders. She'd cried when telling Dean to say yes to Michael and trying to save Paul had been instinct but now it was gone. Now she was who she was supposed to be.
"Is that everyone?" Leah asked.
"Every single one," Addy said with a smirk.
"Good," Leah said with a nod and looked to Jane, "Get the kerosene."
"There are kids in there," Jane protested.
"What did you think we'd have to do with them?" Addy asked with a scoff, "You wanna see your son? Get the kerosene, Jane."
She didn't question it any further and Addy smiled at Leah as she went for the deadly poison.
Suddenly, a splitting headache took her over and she gripped her head.
"Come along, Addy," Leah said, quickly leading her away from others and into the office where she'd first opened her eyes to the darkness inside her, "Sit down."
She led her over to the couch and she collapsed before she could get there. She looked up at Leah and looked away in horror, "What the hell are you?"
Leah sighed, "You're stronger than I thought. Taking your mind again is too much effort. I'll just kill you."
Addy began to crawl back from her. She was weak and her head seemed to be throbbing in her skull as Leah advanced towards her.
"It's too bad," she said in the same sweet voice dripping with venom, "It would have been nice to have a protégée. I like you, Addy. Say hello to Lucifer for me. He'll bring you back soon enough and this time he won't be so foolish as to let you get away with that Winchester of yours."
Before, she could do anything, Cas appeared behind her, pulling her back as Gideon appeared holding a curved wooden steak.
"Daddy don't hurt me," Leah pleaded.
"Gideon now!" Sam yelled at him and Dean came in as well. He immediately rushed to her, helping her up.
Seeing her opportunity to escape, Leah chanted in Enochian and Cas fell to the ground with a pained scream. She used her powers to push them all crashing into the walls as she escaped through the doors.
Gideon ran after her and Sam called to him, "Gideon! Wait! No!"
"Go," Addy said to the brothers, "I got Cas."
He was groaning in pain on the floor when she scrambled to him.
"Cas what's wrong?" she asked frantically, "How do I help you?"
"Go," he ordered her, "Help them! I'll be fine! Go!"
She ran after them to see Dean struggling beneath Leah as she had her hands around his neck, chocking him. Leah saw her and flung her into a table with her power.
"Please. Like you're a servant of Heaven," Leah mocks as Addy picks herself up and sees Dean reaching for the stake, "This is why my team's gonna win. You're the great vessel? You're pathetic, self-hating, and faithless. It's the end of the world. And you're just gonna sit back and watch it happen."
Addy thrust out her hand and with what little strength she has, she wills the stake closer to Dean. He grabs it, punches Leah across the face and the stabs her right in the heart.
"Don't be so sure, whore," Dean growled, pushing her off him with the stake and coming over to her. He pulled her up and away from the convulsing Leah. The stake begins to burn and it explodes, a hole in her body.
"But…I don't understand. How are we supposed to get to paradise now?" Jane asked hopelessly.
"I'm sorry. Pretty sure you're headed in a different direction," Dean replied and pulled Addy into his arms, kissing her forehead.
"I didn't mean what I said," she whispered, "It wasn't me talking. Don't give in. You can't give in."
He didn't answer.
SUPERNATURAL
Addy helped Dean carry Cas out of the church as Sam did the same with Pastor Gideon.
"Dean, how did you do that?" Sam asked behind them.
"What?" Dean asked casually.
"Kill her," Sam said.
"He stabbed her," Addy said, struggling to hold Cas up, "Why does it matter Sam?"
"She could only be ganked by a servant of Heaven."
Addy looked to Dean as they carried the pastor and Cas and put them in the backseat of the Impala.
When they had the doors closed behind them Sam asked his brother, "Are you gonna do something stupid? "
"Like what?" Dean asked.
"Michael stupid," Addy said without hesitation, staring him down.
"I'm right here princess," he said and for some reason she instantly relaxed.
SUPERNATURAL
Addy sat on the bed with Cas as he stared off into the distance. Sam treated the pastor as Dean emerged from the bathroom. She gave him a small smile and he came up to her and planted a kiss on her lips.
When he pulled away, she whispered, "There's a pastor in the room."
He chuckled, "Not that that'll stop me."
She smiled and gave him another kiss, "No Michael stupid, right?"
"Right," he repeated and she sighed in relief, "I love you, Addy."
"I love you too and we'll figure this out together," she said and looked to the pastor, "Go see how he's doing."
He nodded and left her with Cas.
"He's not okay," the angel said simply.
She frowned at him, "Cas you're pretty beaten up. Tell me what I have to do to help."
"Nothing," he said hopelessly, "You can't do anything."
"Where you going?" she heard Sam ask and she looked up to see Sam heading for the door.
"I'm just gonna grab some clean bandages out of the trunk. Relax," he said and met Addy's eyes. She gave him a small smile and he left the room. Suddenly, she froze and started running for the door. She pulled it open just as Dean started the car and sped off into the night. She ran halfway across the parking lot shrieking his name.
"Dean!" she heard Sam calling from behind her and even though it wasn't cold, she felt freezing like she'd touched Leah all over again.
SUPERNATURAL
Addy hurriedly packed up her belongings in her motel room. She threw her things into a bag not even bothering to make it neat like usual. She was on autopilot. Sam was on the phone with Bobby and the pastor was trying to find a car they could borrow.
Her phone rang and she stared at it on the nightstand for only a second before she picked it up without bothering to see who it was, "Dean."
There was a long silence before she heard him say, "I'm sorry."
"No," she said quickly, "Don't be sorry. You're upset. You're giving up. I get it. I get that, Dean. Just come back here and we'll figure it out or tell us where you're heading or where you are right now we'll come and get you. You don't have to apologize."
"Actually I do," he replied in a dead voice, "Because I made it my mission to make you love me and now that you do I'm going to die."
"No you're not," she said with a hysterical smile, "You're going to be just fine. We're gonna save you and bring you to Bobby's and we'll figure it all out. It's all good. We're all good."
"Addy, I love you."
"I know," she said, "I know you do. Now get your ass back to me. I swear to God Dean just please get back here. Please. I'm begging you."
"I have no illusions, okay? I know the life that we live, I know how that's gonna end. Whatever. I'm okay with that. But I wanted you to know…that the short time we had together…I was happy."
"You don't get to say that to me," she whispered back, "You don't get to say that and then just die. No, if you say that to me than you have to live up to it. You're right Dean. You made me love you but guess what it wasn't all that hard. Now get back here and be happy with me!"
"Addy don't worry about Lucifer okay. I'll take care of that. He won't ever touch you. I'm not saying yes to Michael until I make sure you and Sammy are okay,"
"I don't care," she yelled, "I want you back with me. I want you to live. I want to kiss you and tell you I love you and that it's okay because that's what couples do, Dean and they help each other with their problems so please…come back to me. Come back so I can help. I love you."
"I love you too," he said and then the line went dead. The phone slipped from her fingers and she fell to her hands and knees after it, unable to breathe.
Sam came in moments later to see her on the floor, gasping for air, "Addy! Addy come on don't do this."
He dropped everything and kneeled in front of her, "Come on Addy breathe. Breathe Angel. Don't do this. I need you right now. Breathe."
"I can't do this without him," she said between gasp, "I can't. I can't."
"Come on, Addy," Sam pleaded, "You're okay. We're gonna be okay. We'll find him."
She continued gasping for air through the panic attack. Dean's last words echoing through her head as a lie because if he loved her why would he do this?
