The team of Keyblade Wielders entered the Palace of Eternity, the doors closing shut behind them. They all looked around, marveling at the throne room before them.
"Whoa, this place isn't at all what I expected." Ven commented.
"Sterile walls, white upholstery. It's exactly how I imagined it. These chicks must really love the old Organization XIII's sense of style." Axel replied.
"I meant the art on the walls." Ven replied.
"Oh~h good point." Axel muttered.
"This mural depicts the Thirteen Awakenings, an ancient verse that foretells the awakening of the gods to herald in a new era. It's very vague. I don't recall all of the verses." Si'Lea replied as she looked up at the eighth depiction.
"So which way do we go to reach the top?" Terra asked.
"Either staircase will take us to the Brink of Infinity, the highest most level of the Palace of Eternity. I have a feeling that regardless of whichever route we take; the Sisterhood will be waiting for us." Namine said as Si'Lea gave a nod.
"Agreed. So we split up. Master Sora, you lead one group, I'll lead the other." Si'Lea said as Sora looked at her curiously.
"Why me?" he asked, confused.
"Because somehow you're the only one of all of us whose managed to kill a Sister." Si'Lea said as Namine stepped up next to Sora.
"I'll go with him." She said, Kairi, Axel, Riku, and Xenix falling in with Sora, while Terra, Ven, Aqua, and Mickey joined up with Si'Lea.
"Be careful. The Sisters are all witches, capable of manipulating your emotions. Third represents envy, Fourth represents pride, Fifth focuses on greed, and Sixth represents lust." Riku said.
"So guard your hearts carefully, or else you'll fall victim to their powers." Aqua added.
"Right. Be careful, all of you." Kairi said as they started to break up towards their respective staircases, Sora's Group heading to the right hand staircase while Si'Lea's Group headed for the one on the left.
"You too." Terra replied as they started heading up the stairs. As Si'Lea's group headed up the stairs, Aqua looked over her shoulder, watching the hooded Xenix climbing up with Sora's group.
"Terra, who's that other girl?" Aqua asked.
"Xenix. She's a Nobody we found in Twilight Town. Riku seems to think that bringing her here will help her find her heart." Terra replied.
"A Nobody? Any ideas as to who her other was?" Aqua asked.
"Well according to Riku and the Riku Replica, her Other's name is Nixe." Terra said, causing Si'Lea to stagger to a stop.
"What?! How is that possible?!" Si'Lea asked, confused.
"How is what possible?" Ven asked as Si'Lea turned towards them.
"Nixe's heart wasn't stolen as if a Heartless took it. It was stolen through the Phantom Blot. It's like half-way creating a Heartless, the heart is stolen but not allowed to fade into Darkness. The body however does and prevents a Heartless or a Nobody from being created. For to have a Nobody would imply she lost her heart at some point in the usual manner." Si'Lea explained. That's when Mickey cleared his throat.
"Actually, I might have something to do with that." He said, as everyone looked towards him.
"How's that?" Aqua asked.
"Welp, some time ago, I came across the Riku Replica and Nixe fighting the Phantom Blot and Oswald in another world. Oswald had Riku distracted and the Phantom Blot was able to capture her heart. I managed to defeat both and recover her heart and body before either faded into darkness, using Light magic to preserve both. After that, I reunited both heart and body together. It's possible in that brief instance where heart and body were separate, a Nobody was created." Mickey explained, Terra nodding in agreement.
"That sounds logical. And if that's the case, then there's still hope for restoring Nixe even now." Terra explained as they pressed on.
"Then let's hurry and see if we can reach First and rip Nixe's heart free of her." Si'Lea said as they saw a pair of doors at the top of the stairs. They opened the doors, stepping into what appeared to be a large treasure room. The room had huge mounds of loose gold coins, treasure chests overflowing with gold, jewels of varying colors, sizes, and shapes. That's not all, there was also one of Cruella De'Vil's cars, a black and white version perched slightly atop one of the mounds along with a gold and jewel laden throne. But seated upon the throne, staff in hand and with her golden scimitar sheathed at her side, was none other than the Lady of Avarice herself.
"Ah and here I thought I'd lose the bet to Sixth as to which of us would receive the first visit from you lot. Sorry but you won't be advancing to the next level, unless you pay the toll that is. The price of course, is one heart from one of you strapping young men." Fifth said as she reclined in her seat.
"Fifth, the Lady of Avarice. I thought your rooms were higher up." Si'Lea commented.
"They usually are but just for this occasion we took the liberty of reconfiguring the staircases slightly so that there won't be any quick and easy access routes to the Brink of Eternity. No-no, I'm afraid your path to our eldest sister comes to an end here." Fifth said as Ven rubbed his chin in thought.
"Greed is your emotion huh? Okay, you sound like you enjoy making deals, I'll let you have my heart, but only if you can take it from me." Ven said, alarming Si'Lea but curiously not surprising the others.
"What?! Ven! Are you insane?!" Si'Lea asked as Ven stepped forward.
"I wouldn't worry too much about it." Terra replied as Ven summoned his Keyblade. Fifth looked contemplative for a moment.
"Hmm…battle you mono-e-mono for your heart. Winner takes all I suppose?" Fifth asked as Ven gave a nod.
"You bet." Ven replied. Fifth thought for a moment before smirking.
"Very well, I accept your terms." She said as she rose to her feet.
"Ven! You can't beat her on your own! Let us help!" Si'Lea said but Aqua blocked her.
"You worry too much, Si'Lea, I've got this. Defeating a greedy snake like this should be easy." Ven replied, Fifth grinning with a dark laugh. (Battle Music Cue: Arabian Dream – KH1/KH:CoM/KH2)
"A snake, am I?" she asked, starting to glow with a fiery red and orange glow. The glow suddenly enveloped her before expanding outward until it filled a large portion of the room, revealing a massive white python-like serpent with gold and jewels instead of scales in some places, coiling around the throne, glaring at Ven almost hungrily.
"Perhaps you would like to see how snakelike I can be!" Fifth hissed, Ven dropping into his fighting stance. Ven took off running towards her, Fifth coiling back and suddenly lunging towards him but Ven spun to the side, causing Fifth to miss her strike completely and allowing Ven to spin to the side, striking her in the side of the head, causing her to recoil and hiss in pain. She quickly moved around, proving far more agile in this form than most would have anticipated but not enough to quite match Ven's own speed as he cast an Aeroga around him, the cutting winds spiraling around him and lifting him into the air, Fifth eyeing him hungrily.
"No, don't fall for that, Ven!" Si'Lea muttered worriedly.
"Relax, Ven's got this." Aqua replied.
"How can you be so sure?" Si'Lea asked. Fifth suddenly lunged at Ven but he quickly got lifted upwards by the Aeroga just as he cast his Tornado ability, not only causing Fifth to miss but also sending her careening headfirst into a much stronger cutting wind, causing her to howl in pain, sending off a shower of dislodged coins and jewels in all directions.
"It might've been roughly eleven years since you last saw us, but when was the last time you recall Ven ever being in want of anything short of some of the most basic necessities." Terra explained as Si'Lea blinked in realization.
"He desires no material wealth. He's the counter to greed." Si'Lea replied as Mickey gave a nod.
"Uh-huh! That's why he's going to win!" Mickey added, Ven landing on the hood of the car nearby, stabbing his Keyblade into the car and detonating a Firaga under it, causing the engine to rapidly overheat. Ven leapt off the car just seconds before it exploded, causing the previously disoriented Fifth to turn with widened snake-eyes.
"What?! NO! My car!" Fifth cried out in horror. She then heard another explosion as Ven set off another Aeroga spell only this time within the center of one of her treasure mounds, sending Fifth's treasure flying in all directions.
"What are you doing?! You cursed brat!" Fifth yelled, snaking her way towards him at high speeds, now completely uncoiled, her golden scimitar now attached to her tail in place of a point or a rattle. Fifth suddenly coiled around and attempted to strike at Ven but he quickly reared back and slashed her across the face, causing her to recoil in pain.
"Rick-'em-rack-'em-roll-'em-rake! Stick that sword into that snake!" Mickey cheered, earning a coy smirk from Terra.
"Haven't we done that gag already?" he asked as Fifth turned to glare at them.
"You stay out of this!" Fifth hissed.
"Fifth, Fifth, she's our girl, if she can't do it, GREAT!" Si'Lea yelled as Ven leapt up and over Fifth's head, sliding down the back of her neck, running the teeth of his Keyblade down her backside, effortlessly cutting through her skin, causing her to hiss loudly in pain.
"How?! How are you able to withstand my powers?!" Fifth asked as she attempted to coil around and snap at the younger and agile Keyblade Wielder but missing each time.
"You wanna know why?! Because there's nothing you could offer that I could possibly want!" Ven yelled, still sliding down her back before reaching her tail, leaping up, and slicing her tail clean off, causing her to scream in pain.
"AUGH! Then what do you want?! Money?! Fame?! Women?! Power?! WHAT?! I'll give you anything!" Fifth cried as Ven landed atop another treasure mound, turning to glare at her, pointing his Keyblade at her, his helmet disappearing, revealing a smirk.
"You don't have anything I want because I've got everything I'll ever need! And they're right over there!" Ven replied, motioning to the other Keyblade Wielders. Fifth's snake eyes widened in horrid realization.
"You…your heart is devoid of greed! How is it possible?!" Fifth asked before Ven suddenly unleashed his Multivortex Shot Lock, unleashing a vicious barrage of attacks against the Lady of Avarice before landing a final blow right where the head met the neck, driving his Keyblade into her throat (End Battle Music). Ven landed on the ground near the other Keyblade Wielders, turning to face Fifth's strangely paralyzed form. Finally, her snake form crumbled away, leaving Fifth behind in her human form, staggering forward, struggling to stay upright with her staff.
"How…is this possible? How can…can someone not crave wealth? I had the best…money could buy." Fifth stammered as Ven looked her way.
"Just so you know, I recognized you the moment I saw you. I remember Sora's encounters with your Other. Just in case you didn't know her name, her name is Princess Jasmine, the Princess of Heart of Agrabah." Ven said as Fifth scowled and tried to reach out and attack him but her staff broke in half, melting away. Her entire treasure horde began dissolving away, the coins, jewels, and everything else she craved, all turning into dust and blowing away. She looked around in horror before noticing the Darkness forming around her as she started to fade into Darkness.
"No…no! My fortunes! My profits! I'm-I'm-I'm…I'M BROKE!" Fifth cried, descending into tears as she vanished back into the Darkness. Ven then looked to his comrades as they approached. Si'Lea was astonished as she saw the once treasure filled room was now completely empty. Even the throne had dissolved away.
"Nice work, Ven." Terra complimented.
"So that's two sisters dead, four more to go." Aqua said as they started for the door on the opposite end of the room.
"I'm still trying to figure out how you did it, Ven. Aqua and I were unable to defeat her and yet you defeat her your first time without breaking a sweat. What was your secret?" Si'Lea asked.
"She tried to enflame greed where none existed. Ven's never really been one for a lot of material wealth." Aqua replied.
"Like when Sora faced Second. She tried to enflame sloth where none existed." Si'Lea deduced.
"I wouldn't say that. Sora can be lazy at times, but when he puts his mind to something, he doesn't let up until he's achieved his goal." Ven replied.
"I just hope that if they run into any Sisters, Sora or one of the others will have whatever's needed to get past them." Si'Lea said as they started to continue their ascent up through the palace.
Meanwhile…
Sora's team had just started up the staircase towards the top level, the team racing up the stairs as fast as they could.
"So that woman's the mysterious Si'Lea, eh? She's kinda hot for an older woman." Axel commented.
"I'd lay off, Axel. She used to be an item with Terra. He's admitted to still having a spark for her." Riku commented.
"Ah you know I'm just full of hot air." Axel replied with a smirk.
"Namine, how high up do we have to go?" Kairi asked, Namine furrowing her brow worriedly.
"I'm not sure. I did some exploring while I was here but everything looks different now. If I had to wager a guess, it's like they've rearranged the entire Palace to suit their needs." Namine replied.
"Like Castle Oblivion?" Riku asked.
"It would make sense." Namine replied.
"How've you been holding up, Namine? Have they hurt you?" Kairi asked, concerned for her Nobody's wellbeing.
"I'm fine. No permanent damage. Don't worry about me." Namine replied, glancing over her shoulder at the hooded Xenix as she tagged along behind them. Namine then looked towards Riku who noticed her reaction.
"Xenix, this is Namine. She's a Nobody like you." Riku introduced, Xenix smiling warmly at her fellow Nobody.
"Nice to meet you!" she greeted cheerfully. Namine blinked in surprise.
"Nixe?" she asked.
"Yeah. She's Nixe's Nobody, which brings up the topic of those memories you put in that Replica of me." Riku said but Namine returned her gaze towards the front.
"Now isn't the time, Riku. When this is over, I'll help you make sense of it. For now, we have other things to worry about." Namine said as Kairi looked at Sora who was quietly running ahead of them.
"Sora, how've you been? Have you been traveling alone all this time?" Kairi asked.
"Nah. I've had Roxas and Xion to keep me company." Sora replied, causing Axel to grin.
"That's who I'd want to travel with…err no offence." Axel said as they saw a door ahead of them. They threw the doors open but slid to a stop at what they saw before them.
"What the-?!" Sora yelped. The room they had entered looked like a medieval torture chamber only made of solid white walls, ceiling, and floor. Seated on a loveseat in the center of the room, a book in hand sat Sixth, staring at them from over her book.
"Ah, finally. I was afraid I'd just go ignored. Oh and you brought Seven with you, I've been looking forward to exacting my pound of flesh for your treachery." Sixth said as she rose to her feet, tucking the book under one arm.
"Belle?" Kairi asked softly, recognizing Sixth right away.
"She and the rest of the Sisterhood are the Nobodies of the Princesses of Heart. This is Sixth, the Lady of Lasciviousness." Namine explained as Sixth chuckled.
"Or to put it in common terms, lust. Although I feel that term is just so uncouth. I much prefer a simpler term: love. It's a much easier branding. You wouldn't believe how easy it was for Fifth and I to convince the worlds' many villains to side with us. A little greed there, a little love over there and they were putty in our hands. Love is such a useful tool of manipulation." Sixth commented as Sora scratched his head.
"Then why are we in a dungeon?" Sora asked.
"Buddy, you're better off not knowing." Axel replied as Sixth opened her book.
"You know I believe it's time to see which of you will be the first to give your heart over to me. Will it be you with the fiery hair? Nixe's little friend? Or perhaps you, the red head." Sixth said as she set her sights on Kairi. Riku then smirked in response.
"You sure you want Kairi?" Riku asked, glancing at the young Princess of Heart. Sixth licked her lips almost hungrily.
"I do enjoy sharing my brand of love with the more innocent waif type." Sixth commented, reaching into her book and pulling out her blunderbuss. Namine immediately realized what Riku's plan was and allowed a smile to appear on her face, especially as she saw Kairi's expression.
"Love? Is that what you call it?! Love isn't something you use to manipulate people! Love should motivate you to do all you can to protect the ones you care for! To help them!" Kairi said as she stepped forward. Sixth merely smirked at her.
"Please. Everyone harbors some kind of lust or greed in their hearts. I can tell that fiery mouth breather over there is loaded with it." Sixth commented but earned only a coy smirk from Axel.
"Yeah but I've got something you're clearly lacking, sister. Standards…oh and a clean bill of health." Axel replied with a winning grin. Xenix burst out laughing at the comment.
"A clean bill of health...I don't get it but it sounds funny!" Xenix laughed, her hood falling back. Sixth looked at her curiously.
"That voice…that face…can it possibly be-…" Sixth mumbled to herself before her eyes widening.
"That cursed brat still lives?! Bah! I'll deal with her once and for all!" Sixth yelled, pointing her blunderbuss at Xenix and firing off a black sphere of energy. She was stunned however when Kairi leapt in between the shot, slashing through it with her Keyblade, dispersing it.
"This time, I'll fight!" Kairi said as she dropped into a fighting stance. Sixth merely chuckled in amusement.
"You really think you know how this story ends?! Just bend over now, little girl! I'll have you begging for mercy!" Sixth said, firing three rounds at once. The rounds came flying towards Kairi but she didn't lose the steely glare in her eyes. She calmly raised her empty left hand, the spheres coming to within inches of her hand and suddenly dissipating harmlessly into the air. Sixth froze in disbelief.
"You stopped that with only your hand?! Impossible!" Sixth yelped as Kairi pointed at her chest.
"It might sound like a gag inducing girl-power movie cliché, but true love can surpass even lust! There is such a thing as loving someone with all your heart and still not include lust!" Kairi yelled. Sixth chuckled, resting her gun on her shoulder as a strange black aura started emanating around her.
"Then shall we put our ideals of love to the test? I'll admit, I've always been anxious to unleash my full power on some little brat like you. Now I get to see what makes you squirm." Sixth asked as her clothes gradually turned black.
"What's happening?!" Xenix asked as the others watched her transform. Once the aura dissipated, it revealed a strange black, almost teardrop shaped figure object standing before them. The object then opened to reveal it was actually a pair of demonic wings that had sprouted from her back. Her clothes had turned black but were otherwise untouched but her shoes and gloves had been obliterated, revealing a pair of canine feet, and clawed hands. Most noticeably, she had a pair of black forward curled horns. Her blunderbuss had disappeared completely.
"Whoa, she looks like some kind of lust demon." Xenix commented in alarm.
"Looks like it, but if that were the case, why didn't her clothes change more to fit the stereotype?" Axel asked.
"So that our rating didn't have to change?" Xenix guessed, earning a blank look from the others.
"If you're going to run around breaking the fourth wall, you and I are going to get along swimmingly, sister. Got it memorized?" Axel said with a grin. Meanwhile, Sixth was smirking at Kairi, chuckling menacingly.
"How do you like my beast form? Are you certain you wish to put my brand of love to the test?" Sixth asked as Kairi glared at her. She didn't respond which only caused Sixth to chuckle even more.
"I thought not, now then, let's see what makes you ti-AUGH!" Sixth howled as she suddenly recoiled, shielding her eyes as Kairi's heart briefly let off a blinding beam of light in response to Sixth's attempt to look into her heart.
"What?! What are you?! How did you-…" Sixth said but froze as she saw Kairi starting to glow with a radiant white light.
"My name is Kairi, I am a Keyblade Apprentice under Keyblade Master Sora! I love him with all my heart like I love each and every one of my friends! And if I am going to help save the person that you and your fellow Sisters have doomed by going through you, then so be it!" Kairi declared before being enveloped by the radiant light, causing everyone to shield their eyes.
End Chapter 60
I always felt that one area where Kingdom Hearts let us down was giving us an opportunity to fight Jafar in his giant Cobra form. It would've made such an awesome boss battle. Alas and a lack.
But yes, by now I think all members of the Sisterhood have been paired or can be paired with their Princess of Heart Counterparts. So without further delay…
First – Aurora
Second – Cinderella
Third – Snow White
Fourth – Alice
Fifth – Jasmine
Sixth – Belle
Seven/Namine - Kairi
