Chapter 41

She didn't know how long she'd been screaming and pulling at chains but her head and wrist ached from her effort so eventually she silenced herself and stared at the time she closed her eyes she saw Dean. The fact that she didn't get to say goodbye or I love you one last time refused to make its way into her thought. She had to believe that wasn't the last time. She wasn't about to give up. Not now. Dean wouldn't want her to do that.

"Done with your temper tantrum?"

She looked to see Sam…no Lucifer at the foot of her bed with a white dress between his fingers. The chains disappeared and slowly she sat up, pulling her arms against her chest as she rubbed her wrist.

"I shouldn't have done that," he said, gently caressing her cheek and she flinched away from his touch as if he'd burned her, "You don't have to fear me."

"I don't have to fear Sam. You…you I should be very afraid of."

"Should?"

"You don't scare me," she said simply.

He smiled, "I'm glad."

She gave him a stone look, "I don't fear you because I have nothing to be afraid of. Sam's in there and I know he can hear me so he knows that I believe in him. It might not be today. It might not be tomorrow but he'll take his mind back and when he does…you are royally screwed. You and all your demons and monsters are going to fail just like you always do against us. I have faith but I certainly don't have any fear you worthless piece of garbage."

"Sometimes I forget you're not her. You and Lilith are so similar that it's difficult to remember she is gone," he replied, his eyes glazed over as if what she'd said hadn't resonated with him.

"I'm nothing like her."

He chuckled," How often do you tell yourself that? How often do you feel her power stirring inside you? How many times have you held back your rage towards everything…and everyone? I know when you look in the mirror all you see is Lilith."

"You don't know me," she whispered.

"I've known you all your life," he said, his hand brushing her arm and again she yanked away but he grabbed her, hard enough that she winced in pain," I know about all the pain and loss you suffered. All the hatred you had to endure. The heartbreak you were put through. All the times you sat alone at night wanting to be anyone but who you were. I know it all."

"But you don't know me," she growled," All that pain and loss made me better. The hate made me stronger and the heartbreak was just lessons I had to learn."

He laughed in her face," Do you ever get tired of lying to yourself? It must be exhausting. More importantly, you can't lie to me. I know what's in your heart and it's nothing but anger and resentment."

"That's not-"

"True," he finished," It's not true that all you want is to be able to act vengeance on those who made you suffer."

"No," she challenged.

He scoffed," I can give you everything you deserve in life. All of it. No more lies. No more hate. No more heartbreak or pain or loss. By my side you'll never have to endure it again."

She sat there, thinking over his words and then said," I'd sooner die."

"You won't die," he began with a smile," I'll make sure of it, but everyone else around you will. Like I said you have two fates. Lose all that you love or embrace this…embrace us."

"Why would I ever embrace this willingly?" she asked, searching his eyes," I told you I will fight with all I have."

He put his finger under her chin and tilted her face up so he could look at her," I know you will but if you embraced your destiny I could make you so happy. Everything you ever wanted would be yours. All that you desire would never be out of reach. Anyone who wronged you would be punished. For the first time in all your life you'd never have to worry whether your happiness was permanent."

"And if I did that for the first time in my entire life I would have given up," she said, yanking away from him," And you can bet your ass that'll never happen."

He chuckled and stood, extending the dress to her, "Put this on."

She stared at him defiantly, "Not really my style."

"Put it on Adriana," he said warningly and then his eyes darkened, "Put it on or I put it on you."

She narrowed her eyes and snatched it from him, inspecting it in her hands. It was lace like and short, "I hate it."

"You're a queen," he said with a smirk, "Learn to dress like one."

He began walking back out and she called to him at the doorway with as much malice as she could, "Lilith said you liked white."

He froze and with his back still turned to her replied, "Blood is vivid on white."

The door slammed behind him and she pulled at the knob and used everything she could think of to open it. Once she realized she wasn't going anywhere she remembered Lucifer's promise to come back and put the dress on her himself. Quickly, with a watchful eye on the door she stripped and put it on. The zipper was in the back and try as she may she couldn't get it all the way to the top.

Just as she abandoned her effort, Lucifer came stomping in, "Follow me."

She went to pick up her shoes, "You won't be needing those."

She sighed and followed after him. She rounded a corner to see a massacre of five people on the floor and she covered her mouth in shock.

"Just demons," he said and put his hands, Sam's hands, on her shoulders so he could turn her towards a mirror. She stared at him through it with horror as his lips brushed against her neck and he slowly zipped up her dress. With a gentle touch, he released her hair from its ponytail and the curls came tumbling down over her shoulders nearly to her stomach. Briefly, she wondered how she'd ever let it get this long.

"One last touch," he whispered and tucked a red rose in her hair, "You look beautiful."

"I look like Lilith."

He smiled at her reflection, "We look magnificent together."

"Please," she whispered, "Just let me go. Let me go back to Dean. Give me time with him. I'll make a deal."

He chuckled in her ear, "Why would I do that when I have you now?"

"If you really cared about me you'd do it," she countered and he sighed coming to stand in front of her as he roughly cupped her face. For just a fleeting moment there was something gentle in his eyes. As quickly as it appeared it was gone.

"No," he said sternly and she tried to pry away from his grip but he held her tight, "Let's go win this fight shall we?"

SUPERNATURAL

Addy stood behind Lucifer as he stared off into the cemetery. Not a sound was made besides the wind and her own breathing.

"It ends where it all began."

Addy rolled her eyes, "Very cryptic."

"You really have no idea where you are?" he asked and she didn't care enough to answer, "Lawrence, Kansas."

Her eyes widened.

"Don't worry. I will leave your family alone. I have you so there is no reason to bother them."

"So tell me Lucifer," she said and he turned to her, her hair and dress whipping in the wind as she crossed her arms, "What if you lose? What if Michael wins?"

He scoffed, "He won't."

"And you're so sure of that," she said mockingly, "I've met Michael and I have to say he's a bit more bad ass than you."

"Is this your attempt to…anger me?" he asked curiously.

"No," she said simply, "This is my attempt to make you think. Michael can beat you and then when that happens all this would've been for nothing. I have to tell you though I'm glad I'll have a front row seat to it."

"I won't lose, Adriana," he said, turning his back to her once again.

"And why's that?"

"Because you're not just my queen. You're my secret weapon."

"Bringing the girl was unnecessary."

Addy turned to see Adam only just like Lucifer, he wasn't who he appeared.

"Hello brother," Lucifer said, turning to him and she realized she was in the middle of what was about to be an angel fight.

"Shit," she mumbled.

"She looks so much like Lilith doesn't she? You always did give her roses to wear."

"Adriana," Michael said, gaining her attention, "I am sorry you have to be here. I give you my word no harm will come to you and you will be returned to your loved ones."

"Thank you," she replied gratefully.

Lucifer scoffed, "Typical Michael. She's not actually Lilith you know. I remember when I heard you were willing to fall from grace all for the love of a woman. Of course I had to see what the fuss was about. If you had just left Lilith alone I never would have noticed her. I never would have even touched her."

"She was good and pure and you took all of that from her just to spite me, brother."

"Trust me, Michael. It didn't take much of anything to corrupt a bored little village girl."

Michael chuckled, "Adriana is not her, Lucifer. She is not ours as Lilith was. Leave her out of this."

"I missed you brother. Do not doubt that but Lilith was and always will be mine."

The exchange confused her. They were supposed to hate each other. She didn't understand.

"Are you ready?" Michael asked.

"As I'll ever be. A part of me wishes we didn't have to do this," Lucifer said in genuine regret.

"Yeah. Me too," Michael said, just as sincere.

"Then why are we?"

"You know why!" Michael yelled, changing his tone so quickly she jumped, "I have no choice, after what you did."

"What I did? What if it's not my fault?"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Think about it. Dad made everything. Which means he made me who I am! God wanted the Devil. "

"So?" Michael questioned and she couldn't believe even he didn't understand the implications behind that.

"So why? And why make us fight? I just can't figure out the point."

"What's your point?" Michael asked, his gaze faltering ever so slightly.

"We're going to kill each other. And for what? One of Dad's tests. And we don't even know the answer. We're brothers. Let's just walk off the chessboard," he pleaded and for the first time she saw them as what they really were. Brothers.

"I'm sorry. I-I can't do that. I'm a good son, and I have my orders."

"But you don't have to follow them," Lucifer begged one last time.

"What, you think I'm gonna rebel? Now? I'm not like you."

"Please, Michael-"

"You know, you haven't changed a bit, little brother. Always blaming everybody but yourself. We were together. We were happy. But you betrayed me. All of us and you made our father leave," Michael said cruelly.

The look in Lucifer's eye went dark and slowly she began backing away. They'd start fighting and then she could run but either way she had to get out of here or no doubt she was going to get caught in the crossfire.

"No one makes Dad do anything. He is doing this to us."

"You're a monster, Lucifer. And I have to kill you."

Lucifer looked to her with a smile and she stopped her movements, "Don't you go anywhere just yet little rose because I was just about to tell Michael that if he wants to kill me…"

He looked back to Michael with a murderous gaze, "I'd like to see him try."

The two began to slowly circle each other in an almost animal like way.

Suddenly, a car engine revved and they all turned to look at the entrance to the cemetery. Def Leppard's Rock of Ages began to blare and the Impala strolled in.

Addy kept her eyes on the car and whispered to herself, "You're a crazy man."

"What the hell is that?" Michael asked.

"That's my boyfriend," Addy said, unable to hide a small smile.

Gunter, glieben, glauchen, globen! All right! I got something to say! Hey it's better to burn out! Yeah! Than fade awa-a-a-y all right oh! Gonna start a fire!

He drove up to them and then sauntered out of the car, leaning on the frame, "Howdy, boys. Sorry. Am I interrupting something?"

He looked to her and only for a second could she see the relief in his eyes, "Lookin' good babe."

Lucifer grabbed Addy and held her roughly by the arm, "You're boyfriends an idiot."

She looked up at him with a smirk," Maybe so but you should be worried now."

"Addy are you okay?" Dean called to her.

"I'm fine," she called back, trying to hide her fear for him in her voice as he came closer to her and Lucifer, "Although I think you could've done this a different time."

"Don't you worry princess," he said with a wink and then looked to Lucifer, " Hey. We need to talk."

"Dean. Even for you, this is a whole new mountain of stupid," he said and squeezed her arm so hard she winced.

"I wasn't talking to you but if I was I'd tell you to get your damn hands off my girl," he said and Lucifer released her. She ran to Dean and into his arms. He kissed the side of her head and looked back to Lucifer, "I'm talking to Sam."

"Dean please just get out of here," she whispered harshly, "Save yourself."

"Not without you," he whispered back, "And not without Sammy."

"You're no longer the vessel, Dean. You got no right to be here," Michael said, sounding annoyed.

"Adam, if you're in there somewhere, I am so sorry."

"Adam isn't home right now," Michael said cruelly.

"Well, then you're next on my list, buttercup," Dean said and Addy shot him a wide eyed look," But right now, I need five minutes with him."

"You little maggot. You are no longer a part of this story!" Michael yelled, advancing towards them.

"Hey, ass-butt!"

They turned to see Cas, holding a flaming bottle next to Bobby. He tossed it at Michael and it shattered over him as he instantly went up in flames.

"Ass butt?" Addy and Dean repeated.

"He'll be back and upset but you got your five minutes," Cas said and Addy gave him a small nod of gratitude.

"Castiel. Did you just Molotov my brother with holy fire?" Lucifer asked in repressed rage.

"Uh…no," was the lesser angel's trembling response.

Lucifer snapped and Addy screamed as Cas exploded in a mess of blood and other bodily fluids.

Dean stepped in front of her and went towards Lucifer, "Sammy, can you hear me?"

"You know I tried to be nice for Sam and Addy's sake. But you…" he trailed off as he grabbed the front of Dean's jacket," are such a pain in my ass. "

He threw him into the windshield of the Impala which shattered beneath the force.

"Leave him alone," Addy yelled, running in front of Dean and standing as a barrier between the two.

"Adriana I'm going to count to three and you're going to move."

"Go fuck yourself," she replied, staring him down.

"One."

"Addy move," Dean said from behind her in a groan and she didn't budge.

"Two. Thr-" before he could finish Bobby shot him from behind. When he turned to face him he shot him again to no effect. With a simple flick of his wrist, his neck snapped and he collapsed to the ground.

"Bobby!" she screamed at the same time Dean yelled, "No!"

Lucifer grabbed her by the throat and raised her in the air, "You're lucky you're pretty."

He tossed her aside into the tree and the air escaped her lungs.

"Now for you," he said and grabbed Dean's legs, pulling him off the hood of the car. He punched him so hard he fell back, spitting blood.

"Sammy?" Dean asked again, wiping his lip, "Are you in there?"

"Oh, he's in here, all right," he said and punched Dean again, holding him against the side of the car, "And he's gonna feel the snap of your bones."

Another hit.

"Every single one."

Another bow to the face.

"We're gonna take our time."

"Get away from him!" Addy yelled and threw out her hands. A burst of power sent him flying aside. She ran to Dean and kneeled in front of him as she cupped his bruised and beaten face with shaky hands,

"It's okay," she reassured him as she took in his beaten form," It's gonna be okay."

"Addy run," he pleaded, "Run."

"Not without you," she whispered, pressing her forehead to his, "Never without you."

"You are such a stubborn witch."

She managed to laugh. It came out frantically and pained but it was a laugh as she stared into his eyes, "I love you…but I'm not letting him hurt you."

"Oh you shouldn't have done that, Adriana," Lucifer said, standing back up and brushing off his clothes.

"Or what?" she asked, standing up so she was shielding him from Dean, "What will you do?"

"Your defiance is only amusing to a point," he said, growing angry.

"Allow me to amuse you a little more," she said and used her power to knock him back.

He stood up again and she held her hand out. He cried out in pain as she began clenching her fist and he dropped to his knees, gripping his head. The closer she got the more he yelled out in pain until she was standing over him and he was huddled to the ground.

"Don't. Touch. Dean," she growled and his hand grasped her ankle. A splitting pain entered her head and she cried out, gripping her hair. As she fell to her knees, Lucifer stood. He grabbed her by the hair as she cried out in pain and pulled her face up so she was level with him.

"You still don't seem to get it, Adriana," he spit in her face and open hand smacked her so hard she saw stars, "You belong to me. I own you. Your entire life is only for my purpose. You will not defy me."

She spit blood in his face,"It's my life and I'll defy you until the day I die."

He practically roared and hit her again, releasing her hair as she fell to her side with a whimper. He kicked her in the stomach and she rolled onto her back as she gasped for air. His foot made it's way to her throat. She screamed, trying to pull it away as her eyes met Dean's.

"We'll discuss this later but for now I think you need time to think about your actions."

Dean screamed out like that of an animal when he heard the snap of her neck and her unmoving eyes stayed on his.

"You know I'm beginning to think she's more trouble than she's worth," he said and turned his sights back on Dean with a cruel grin as he wiped the blood from his face. He began stalking towards him as he stared at the dead body of the love of his life, "How do you put up with her, Dean? I mean she's just so damn mouthy. Always has to have the last word."

He grabbed Dean by the collar and hauled him up, his eyes still on Addy, "In all honesty if she wasn't as...alluring as she was I'd have let her rot in that church but I guess that's what love is, huh, Dean. Putting up with them even when they're a defiant little whore."

Dean snapped his gaze to Lucifer, "She's not yours. She will never be yours."

He laughed, "Is she yours, Dean? A little roll around in the sheets and you own her, is that all it takes? Then after I beat the crap out of you making sure you're still alive I'll bring her back and make her mine while you watch and she cries out for you to save her."

"Leave her alone," he said and managed to struggle against his grip until he slammed him back, knocking the wind from him.

"You can't save your brother, Dean. He's mine now," Lucifer snarled in his face, "And you can't save Adriana. For the rest of eternity she is mine and when I'm done with her I'll make her watch as I put you out of your misery."

He began hitting him again and again until his whole face throbbed and his eyes was swollen shut.

When he slowed down Dean put a hand to his chest.

"Sam, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here. I'm here. I'm not gonna leave you," he said with all he had as Lucifer pulled his hand back once more, "I'm not gonna leave you. "

He prepared himself for the next hit and instead he froze, his fist still drawn as he stared at something behind him.

He gasped and looked at him as if it were the first time as he unclenched his fist and dropped Dean.

"It's okay, Dean," his brother said, free from Lucifer, "It's gonna be okay. I've got him."

Dean stared, unable to move or speak as Sam took out the Horsemen rings, threw them to the ground, and chanted.

The ground caves beneath the spell and Michael appeared. He yelled something to him and Sam yelled something back but he was fighting to stay awake as it was. When he looked to her, she reached out to him and she swore he saw her. Then he spread his arms and began to fall back.

Michael tried to stop him but Sam grabbed his arm and fell back with him. When they were gone the hole sealed up as if it hadn't just swallowed his brother.

SUPERNATURAL

Dean held Addy's lifeless body in his arms as he stared at the spot where Sam had disappeared. He had nothing left. Bobby was dead. Cas was dead. They were all gone. A shadow blocked the sun from his misery and he looked up to see Cas with a small smile.

"Cas, you're alive?" he asked through a gritty voice.

"I'm better than that," he said and pressed two fingers to Dean's forehead, healing all his wounds.

"Cas, are you God?" Dean asked.

"That's a nice compliment. But no. Although, I do believe he brought me back. New and improved," he said as he pressed two fingers to Addy's forehead and the gaping cut on her forehead disappeared. A short breath left her lips and she opened her eyes as she met his. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he wrapped his around her torso and they held each other.

They held each other. Even when Cas brought Bobby back they clung to each other as if they were all that was left in the world because it might as well have been that way.

SUPERNATURAL

"What are you gonna do now?" Dean asked as he leaned against the Impala next to Bobby. The cemetery would've been worse at night if he could forget what had happened in daylight. Addy sat with the door open in the passenger seat with Dean's jacket over her shoulders.

"Return to Heaven, I suppose," he answered.

"Heaven?" Bobby repeated.

"With Michael in the Cage, I'm sure it's total anarchy up there," he explained as Addy remained silent. She hadn't spoken one word since waking up.

"So, what, you're the new sheriff in town?" Dean asked, crossing his arms.

"I like that. Yeah. I suppose I am," he said pleasantly.

"Brand new wings and you're his bitch again huh?" Addy asked, looking up at Cas in a glare.

"I don't know what God wants. I don't know if he'll even return. It just... seems like the right thing to do."

"Well, if you do see him, you tell him we're coming for him next," Dean said with repressed rage.

"You're angry," Cas stated.

"Bit of an understatement when it comes to these two," Bobby said sadly.

"He helped. Maybe even more than we realize. "

Before Dean could speak Addy shot up, his leather jacket falling from her shoulders and shoved the angel back, "Helped? Sam's gone you son of a bitch! Gone! We fought for the world! We won and all we get is someone we love in a god damn hole! Tell me how did He help Cas! How?"

"I thought this what you wanted," he said, looking between her and Dean, "No paradise. No hell. Just more of the same. I mean it. What would you rather have? Peace or freedom? "

She blinked and in an instant the angel was gone, "Good riddance you son of a bitch!"

"Addy stop," Dean said gently and he put the jacket back over her shoulders.

"What are you two gonna do now?" Bobby asked and Dean glanced at her. Every bone in his body, every fiber of his being was telling him to go after his brother but that stupid son of a bitch made him promise and as he looked at the broken brown eyes girl that was his, he remembered that promise.

"We're out, Bobby," Dean said and she looked to him.

The older hunter nodded and pulled both of them into his arms, "Stay out. You hear me? Don't come back to it. You two go and live a life. Invite me to the wedding and send me a Christmas card with your kids on it in a few years but other than that do not get back into this. You take care of each other and you go be happy. You got that?"

"Yes sir," Dean said as Bobby released him.

He gave him a nod and looked to Addy, putting his hands on her face, "You've been through hell and back and I am so proud of you…both of you. You've earned this. You've earned it twenty times over."

"Goodbye Bobby," she said and he kissed her forehead.

"Bye baby girl," he said and reluctantly released her to Dean. They watched as he walked away, got in his car and drove off.

They settled into the Impala and Dean started the car, turning towards her as she asked, "Where are we gonna go?"

He tucked her hair behind her ear and replied, "Home."

She stared at him and he pulled her close, wrapping his arm around her, "I'm taking you home."

SUPERNATURAL

She stood at the door, Dean by her side.

"I put them through too much," she whispered.

"They're your family," Dean replied.

The door opened and Missouri stood at the entrance, Megan and Zayda with worried looks behind her, "Get your asses in here the both of you."

They walked inside, past Missouri who beckoned them in. The three witches stared at the couple. Both of them were covered in blood. Both of them were broken.

"Kitty," Megan said, the first one to speak.

She looked to her cousin and wordlessly they embraced as a sob escaped Addy's lips. It all seemed to hit her at once and now she couldn't stop. She collapsed with her family around her, Dean somewhere in the middle of the grieving circle as she finally allowed herself to realize she needed healing. She needed her family.

6 Months Later

Dean silently sipped a beer as he leaned against the kitchen isle in the apartment they shared with Megan. He ran his hands through his hair.

"Dean."

He turned to see Addy rubbing her eyes as she rounded the corner into the kitchen. She leaned against the wall and he couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips. She wore one of his flannels, half buttoned and her hair was a mess from their earlier activities.

"I'm sorry did I wake you?" he asked as she came over to him.

"No," she replied, snaking her arms around his waist, "I woke up and you weren't there. You okay?"

"Yeah," he said, turning to face her and kissed her forehead, "Go back to bed."

She smirked, "Only if you come with me."

"Frisky little thing," he said with a grin.

"You got promoted big man," she said, moving his hand onto her ass, "We're celebrating."

"Damn I love you."

"I love you too," she whispered and gently kissed him, leaning her forehead against his, "We're gonna be okay."

"I know," he whispered and a chill settled over her as she shivered gently.

"What's wrong?" he asked and she shook her head to clear it.

"Nothing," she said quickly, "I felt…yeah it was nothing."

"Come on then," he said, tugging her towards the bedroom and she smiled, letting him lead her down the hall.

Outside their bedroom window on the street below a light flickered and died out. Beneath it Sam Winchester smirked to himself. He made sure they couldn't see him because if they did they'd know something was wrong. Very wrong.
