"We're gonna die!" Augustus sobbed, throwing himself onto the minty grass. "I think I'll starve to death here!"

"When we get out of here, my daddy is going to sue Mr. Wonka" huffed Veruca.

"This is bad, this is bad" Charlie nervously looked around for a way of escape.

"Oh will you all just hush up!? You guys are all such babies, always coddling next to your mommies and daddies. Let's just have some fun! No one can tell us what to do! We can eat all the candy we want!" Mike stood up and waved his arms to emphasize this magnificent candy land. "Helllllo, we're in a video game! How awesome is that?"

Violet blew a large bubble with her gum, and popped it with a loud snap. "I agree, why don't we do some exploring? C'mon everyone, last one to the taffy pond is a rotten gummy bear!"

Violet took off running in a mad dash towards taffy pond. Mike followed shortly behind her. The other children were more reluctant but they did not want to be left behind and ran behind them.

"I've never seen anything like this" Charlie said as he looked up towards the various colored cotton candy clouds floating above them.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Veruca screamed. A small brown frog leaped from the ground to her coat. Another made a leap and landed on her head. "Get this filthy creature off of me!"

Charlie grabbed one from Veruca's hair while Mike reached for the one on top of Veruca's head.

"They're just chocolate frogs. I think I saw them in a movie once" Mike said. He took a large bite from the frog.

"Ewwwww" all the children groaned in disgust

Suddenly there was a loud roar, like the sound of a dirt bike engine. The sound startled the golden ticket winners.

"My goodness!" Veruca exclaimed. "Can this day get any worse?"

"Let's go check it out" Violet started towards the sound. The others followed closely behind.

As they walked towards the sound, they are greeted with a vast field made out of gum drops. They stood on the only road going across the land. The sweet smell of the drops overwhelmed their noses and made their mouths water.

"The sound is getting louder" Charlie said

From the far distance, there was a trail of smoke made from candy powder. The smoke came closer and closer. A silhouette of a race cart appeared as it went towards the direction of the children.

"Run!" Violet cried. The rest of the kids turned and started to run as fast as their legs could carry them. Violet turned around to see if the others followed. All of the others were behind her except Augustus. "Augustus, what are you doing?! RUN!" she screamed.

Perhaps Augustus was too shocked even move. The race cart was almost going to run over him, but he did not move. All he did was tremble in place.

"AUGUSTUS!" Charlie ran back

The driver of the cart saw the boy and slammed the brakes. The brakes did nothing to help reduce the speed. The driver struggled to fiddle with the break while keeping the wheel straight.

"Watch out!" the driver yelled. In frustration, she pulled the emergency brakes. The desperate force from the driver cause the brake handle to brake off. Panicked, the driver signaled Augustus to get off the road "OUT OF THE WAYYY!"

Just before the cart smashed into Augustus, Charlie jumped out and pushed him out of harm's way. The boys leaped out of the way before the cart whizzed passed them. Charlie and Augustus fell onto the ground and rolled off the road.

The cart going at full speed was still charging. In a last ditch effort, she made a sharp turn and went for a large gum drop. As the cart was wheeling full speed into the gum drop, the driver jumped out of the cart and did a tuck and roll. The cart smashed into the drop and was destroyed into a million pieces.

Violet, Mike, and Veruca ran to Charlie and Augustus

"Are you alright?" Violet asked. Her face full of concern.

Charlie clapped dust off his hands and stood up with a groan "yeah I'm fine" he reached out his hand for Augustus

Augustus was too stunned to stand up and suddenly burst into tears.

Veruca rolled her eyes and took his hand to pull him up. When he was on his feet, she gave him a hard slap across his face.

"Oww! What was that for?" Augustus stopped crying

"For acting like a big baby" Veruca respond nonchalantly. With a whip of her hair, she walked past him.

"Are you all okay?" the driver yelled. She was a small girl. Her hair was held in a high ponytail with candy sprinkles all over her hair, she wore a light turquoise hoodie with a brown skirt and stripped stockings. "You could have been smashed into candy bits!" she turned to her cart "my cart!" She sighed and turned back to the children who stepped back from her.

"Who are you?" Violet asked cautiously

"Vanellope Von Schweetz, racer extraordinaire!" she exclaimed she looked at each of the children and noticed something different about them and suddenly gasped "Go! Get out of here! You don't belong here!" There was fear in her eyes.

"Well yeah we fell from the sky and landed here" Mike said

"You don't understand, you need to get out of here NOW" Vanellope said

"That's exactly what we're trying to do. One minute we were playing an arcade game, the next we land in this strange land" Veruca explained

Vanellope's eyes widened "oh no"

"Hey what's happening to me?" Augustus cried out. His real hand was pixelating into an animated Sugar Rush version of his hand. "What's going on?"

Vanellope looked intently at the all of the ticket winners "this is why you need to get out of here as fast as possible. If you stay in the digital world for too long, you'll start to become one of the characters. Then you'll forget you were outside of the game. You'll be trapped here forever. It happened to all of us"
