Discarded Lovers Chapter 17:
How could he say that to me? Hinata stood in the sleeping streets of Konoha remembering Neji's last words before tears streamed down her face again. A noise in one of the alleyways caught her attention, she then realised that she was alone and the paranoia began to settle in. Her eyes were too sore for her to activate her inherited Byakugan, instead she put all her chakra into her feet and propelled herself forward. She wasn't going to look back, not until she was sure that she was in an open area where should attempt to fight back, but was it even worth fighting back anymore?
She arrived at the same clearing she'd run to that day when 'he' came back and Sasuke had followed her, but now, now Sasuke wasn't there anymore. Her knees gave in as the dropped to the ground below her, she bit her bottom lip trying to stop the tears that were burning her already red eyes from pouring down her face again. The scratchyness in her throat and the headache both growing stronger and the ringing in her ears intensified. Knuckles went white as she gripped her chest, it hurt, it hurt so much. There was no-one left in world that cared about her, the man she thought had feelings for her the same way she did for him, had left her.
But how could she rid herself of this pain?
Hinata crawled to the glimmering water. She glanced at the reflection before her. It was the face she saw was of someone she didn't recognise. She tilted forward, letting her body fall into the cold water below her.
Her body sunk, the cold water did very little to numb the growing pain within her chest, within bleeding her soul. She watched the light of the moon slowly fading the deeper she sank. Her chest began to burn for fresh clean oxygen and she involuntarily opened her mouth to breath, allowing the water to force its wasy down her already sore throat. She trashed around in the water before pushing up to the surface of the cold water. She coughed, her body forcing the water out of her lungs.
Tears warmed her face cold face, it hurt, it hurt so much just to be alive. No-one cared for her anymore, not since after what had happened. She recalled the eyes of her clan, the eyes of her friends but most of all the eyes of her beloved, Naruto. They were still her friends and family but they acted so differently now. Neji was right, If she told Sasuke the truth he'd look at her so differently, he, like everyone else, my not even want to took at her from shame. Maybe she didn't need to belong in this world anymore, yes, that's what it was. A person like her couldn't possibly live on in this world anymore.
Hinata climed to walls of the cliff to the where the tree trunk that Yamato had made grew high along the falling water. It hurt again, even more than before but in a few moments, it would all be over and the pain would be gone. Her red puffy eyes turned toward the light of the moon You'll be the last one to see me alive. She let her eyelids cover her eyes and tighten the hold she had on the necklace Sasuke had given her; Sasuke, I love you, but you'll never know that...
Her body tipped forward, hair and tears carried in the wind; Sasuke's face flashed before her, his smile, his kindness. A sudden feeling of regret became present within her, What am I doing? How can I do this without even knowing whether Sasuke-kun feels the same for me or not? warm tears left her eyes again as the distance between her and the water became shorter and shorter Will he care when he hears that I've died?
The inside of his chest was a blaze, his calves stinging anda sharp stabbing pain on his right side; Faster! Faster! FasterSasuke's body failing to respond to the desperation within Sasuke's heart. Having not engaged in any physical training for over month was now showing its effect as Sasuke tried his best to get to the clearing, to get to Hinata.
The familiar feeling of paranoia and fear was getting stronger and stronger 'Hinata, please be there and be safe...I can't lose you...I just can't'
The clearing came into view and Sasuke's eyes scanned the area; there was not a person or animal to be seen. He panted heavily, placing his hands on his knees Damn it! She's not here The sound of the waterfall drew his face up again and then he saw her. The pain in her face was so evident, her eyes red and puffy Why was she crying? He took a few steps before he saw her drop from the tree trunk, she made not effort to position her body so she'd land in the water safely If she falls like that she'll die. What ever amount of chakra he had left, he sent it all to his feet, pushing faster and stronger with every thrusted step, she couldn't die in front of him, not while he still had a chance to save her. He held out his arms, ready to catch her, his chakra coated feet splashing the water I'm not going to make it!, he took one last step before he dived forward
She closed her eyes tight, waiting to hear her bones crack, waiting to feel the pain course through her body before she let the cold water fill her lunges and for her heart to stop beating. Instead she felt warm arms around her back and below her knees, warm breath hitting her cold wet face and heavy pants leaving another's body. Hinata parted her lids to see the face of the last person she had thought of before jumping off the tree trunk above her, "Sa-Sasuke-kun!"
Her eyes were red and swollen, She's be crying again. He breathed heavily, trying to get his heart to stop beating from fright and from pushing his body so much "Hi-Hinata" he took in more air "Hinata, you weren't trying to kill yourself were you?" Hinata removed her gaze from Sasuke's charcoal eyes "Doe- does it really matter what I was trying to do Sa-Sasuke-kun?"
"It does matter Hinata" Sasuke immedately answered. Hinata clutched at the necklace again "A-as if you care?" Sasuke looked her pained face "I do care. That's why-"
Hinata shot a cold glare at Sasuke, cutting him right off "Liar!"
He was breathing so hard, sweat beading off his chin, a look of confusion and worry painting his face. Hinata wriggled out of the embrace of his arms. "If you cared for me you never would have left me alone"
Sasuke looked to his rippled reflection below him "I-I'm-" Before he could say anymore Hinata burst out at him in a fit of anger.
"It was so hard living on my own, knowing how I shamed my clan. Everyone looked at me differently, they acted so sensitively towards me even Naruto-kun." she bit her on her lower lip "you jumped in the way to stop me from killing myself during battle...I was shocked and taken by your effort to save me even though I was heartless. I took you into my home to return your kindness but then I-I...saw a kind and caring side of you I've never known and it warmed my heart. For the first time since the event, I was happy"
Sasuke said nothing and only looked at her express her feelings, beyond her eyes, beyond her tears and her pretty features twisted by pained emotions reveilings themselves. Sasuke could see that it was a mere grain of sand to the turmoil that ate at her day by day. It hurt him to watch.
Hinata's hands fisted and she continuiosly beat them on Sasuke's chest "But then you left" her words began to choke in her throat the more she beat on his chest "...you...left me all alone!"
Without his command, Sasuke's arms wrapped around Hinata's petite body, she shook hard in his embrace, it was tearing him to pieces that he had made her cry so painfully hard. He rocked his body gently to soothe her "Hinata, I'm sorry. I should have never left you alone. I never wanted to leave, in fact I tried to lengthen my stay by pretending I was still in pain when I wasn't." Hinata's wet body soaked into his clothes, she was calming down a little, breathing more evenly "With you, I felt like I had a home, a place to return to. To a person who made me happy, a person who would calm me down by just showing me her glowing smile, to a person I have feelings for" Hinata then looked into Sasuke's eyes as though to confirm his words through his eyes "Hyuga Hinata, I Uchiha Sasuke...love you" Astonishment written all over her face, Sasuke failed read her I really should have told her sooner, now because I left her she'll never accept my feelings. His embrace on her loosened when she didn't answer, he smiled to try hide his shame and hurt of her rejection. Before his arms could fall to his side, Hinata's soft lips crashed onto his own. His heart exploded. The pace of heart quickened, threatening to break through his rib and out of his chest. His desire for her was fast taking over him. Wanting more, he put his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. When Hinata broke away for air Sasuke's lips followed her for a moment, not wanting to feel the cool breeze on his lips.
Hinata open her lavender eyes to charcoal of Sasuke's; love, desire and lust shone clear within them but love shone brighter than all three. His lips glissened and the heat surfaced onto her cheeks, she broke away from Sasuke "I'm-I'm sorry Sa-Sasuke-kun, I-I did not mean to. I just, my-my body-" Whatever excuse she tried to come up with for spontaneously kissing him was failing her. She was getting scared that she'd moved to fast, that she might have just ruined the only chance she had left with Sasuke. However, when she felt his warm hands grip her own, she stilled to let him speak, however bad it may be, she'd learn to live with her mistake.
"Shh, Hinata" Sasuke commanded, placing his fingers between Hinata's chin, pulling her closer to him. He looked into her eyes again before pressing his warm lips to hers, taking her to another world filled with bliss and unending warmth. Hinata's let Sasuke's toungue explorer her mouth, his tongue's invasion felt so natural. Hinata's body suddenly shivered and Sasuke pulled away from the kiss. "It's a bit cold tonight isn't it?" Sasuke led Hinata off the water's surface and onto the soft grass. He grabbed a nearby dried up tree trunk and formed the seals before spitting out a little fireball and setting it alight. Bathing both their faces with warmth and light. Sasuke didn't like the way Hinata shivered earlier and took of his top robe and wrapped it around her body before pulling her down to sit with him in his warm embrace. Hinata sat with her back pressed onto Sasuke's warm chest, she smiled feeling warmth both from him and the fire, she pulled out her hand and held locked it with Sasuke's free hand. She rested her head on his shoulder, listening to his heart beat and watching his chest rise and fall as he breathed. She relaxed into Sasuke's embrace feeling so tired and her headache had not gotten any better, her muscles felt really sore but Sasuke body provided some comfort.
They hadn't been sitting a while before Hinata felt drowsy and began to feel herself drift off to sleep "Sa-Sasuke-kun?" Sasuke lowered his head in response to her call "I love you too" she felt Sasuke kiss her forehead before letting herself drift off to sleep.
Sasuke watched the fire slowly lose it's life before them both, he knew Hinata had fallen asleep over an hour ago but she hadn't woken up yet, she must have been so exhausted, both phyically and emotinally. He pressed his chin to her forehead in an effort to watch his lover sleep but came across something that unsettled him. Hinata's forehead was hot, hotter than usual. In fact, it felt like she was burning up. Sasuke placed unlocked his fingers out of Hinata's and placed his hand on Hinata's forehead then moved to her neck, his suspions were correct, Hinata was burning up. "Hinata?" He called to her, dragging her out of her sleep "Hinata?" she didn't respond to Sasuke's calls. He waited an eternity before gently shaking her awake "Hinata!" Hinata's eyes opened so unnaturally slowly, like a person who was ill. Her skin was red and it was not from the fire. When Hinata's eyes fully parted, Sasuke noted how red they had become "Hinata, are you feeling alright?"
Hinata shook her head "I have a heahache, my-my body hurts all over and I'm tired. I'm so very tired Sasuke-kun" she closed her eyes again, surcoming to the sleepy call.
Sasuke stood up with Hinata in his arms; a slight panic on his face. How could I have not noticed this whole time that she wasn't feeling well.
