~In June's mind~
She was running as fast as she could. She looked behind her and saw what was chasing her. It was the lifeless bodies of her mother and stepfather. it was all her fault that they fell and died. She knew something bad would happen that night but she didn't tell them.
"Hmph, you know how much trouble you caused me?" A familiar voice asked. June looked in terror at an angry looking Caitlin.
"What I went through just to keep an eye on you?"
"You- you ran off on me anyways?" June stammered.
"Yeah, took me long enough." She grumbled.
"I knew I should have let Stephanie take your costume." Bruce agreed, scowling at her. June's eyes welled up in tears. Bart appeared next.
"You make me sick. Thinking that its funny to make me worry sick." He spat. June couldn't believe what she was hearing right now. Tears started to form in her eyes.
"I don't even know why I put up with you and your little bi-polar problem." Bart scoffed. June began crying harder.
"And I thought I was the worst one out of all of us." Jason sneered. June screamed, curling into a ball and covering her ears.
"I should have known you'd be trouble." Bruce snapped, "I should have left you with your father when I had the chance."
"I should have abandoned you sooner." Caitlin scoffed. June stayed in this position for awhile. As she stayed in this position, the voices of her family and friends continued.
"A hero? As if." Nightwing sneered.
"I don't even know why Father kept you." Damian said.
"I did a hell lot better as Phoenix." Stephanie added.
"This isn't even real, this isn't even real." June whispered to herself brokenly. Bart was suddenly right in front of her.
"What did I ever see in you?" He wondered. The mental borderline between reality and dream then disappeared.
~At Wayne Manor~
Damian turned to his two sisters, Stephanie and Cassaranda.
"June is in danger along with Todd." Damaian said. The girls turned to him.
"What makes you say that?" Stephanie asked.
"My bat senses are tingling." Damian stated. Cass stared at him like he had lost his mind. Stephanie started giggling her head off. Damian looked at them with confusion.
"What? Grayson told me that's what I'm supposed to say." Stephanie started laughing harder.
"Okay, but how do you know?" Damian pointed to the TV, where the news was playing the Arkham breakout.
"Black Bat, Robin Jr...TO THE BATMOBILE!" Stephanie cheered, running to the Batcave to put her Spoiler costume on.
"None of us can drive, Brown!" Damian snapped. She deflated slightly.
"Okay, then Zeta tubes." She sulked. The three rushed towards the Batcave to get their costumes on. Once they got their costumes on, they rushed towards the zeta tubes and made their way to the theater. They hurried to the roof of the building and looked downwards. They gasped as they saw the sight below them. June tied up to a chair, unconscious, and Jason, who seemed to be under Poison Ivy's control.
"Ooh, more kiddies!" Joker cheered.
"I thought we'd get to the Bat." Bane growled, clenching his fists.
"So did I!" Killer Croc agreed. Damian said a few unkind things, causing Stephanie to cover Cass' ears, scowling at her little brother.
"Where did you learn those words anyways?" Riddler asked, looking at Robin with surprise.
"Bro- Spoiler, untie M- Phoenix." Damian instructed, drawing his sword. Stephanie crossed her arms under her chest, obviously not enjoying taking orders from a ten year old, but she jumped down from the roof and bent down to untie her sister. Suddenly, Bane was knocked to the ground. Black Bat smirked, and cut the tube, preventing Bane from growing any stronger. Cass got into a defensive position, eyes silently locked on her next target; Ivy. She figured it best that a female go up against Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy took a defensive stand and waited for Cass to make a move. When none of them made a move, Ivy was the first. She thrust her arms forwards and vines appeared, headed towards Cass. Cass drew her katanna and sliced through the plants with ease. She dodged and flipped around the vines. Poison Ivy screamed in anger before Cass slammed the butt of her sword on ivy's face. She walked up to Jason, waving her hands in front of him. She frowned, and clapped her hands in front of him. He didn't move and continued to look like he was in a trance. Cass slapped him. Jason blinked.
"OW!...oh thanks." He said when he realized he was out of the trance. He ran over to June and helped Stephanie untie June. Once they got her untied, Jason looked at Damian and nodded. Jason picked her up bridal style and managed to get out of the building. He had to get June to the Batcave for the antidote right now. June's eyes opened, and the sedative wore off. Jason had a bubble of hope that maybe the gas wore off. That bubble was popped when she let out an ear piercing scream. Jason was so shocked that he dropped her.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" She shouted. Jason didn't know what to do. e already knew if he got near her, it would only get worse. He turned and saw Black Bat finishing up Joker and Harley with Robin.
"Black Bat!" He yelled. She turned towards Jason and walked over to him.
"I need you to take Phoenix back to the Batcave." He said. She nodded and walked over to June. Cass managed to knock her unconscious and picked her up.
"Was that necessary?" Jason asked. Cass simply nodded. Quickly, she threw down a smoke bomb and disappeared to the zeta tubes. Instead of going to the Batcave, she went to the Mountain.
Recognized: Black Bat B-89
"Cass?" Bart frowned as he walked up to the zeta tubes, he then caught sight of June, and paled.
"What happened.."
"Scarecrow...gas." She replied. Everyone turned to Cass quickly. They all gave her a crazy look. They have never heard Cass speak. Bart quickly snapped out of the shock of it and rushed over to June. He took hold of June and rushed her towards the Med Bay while the team and Cass followed. Kaldur quickly started to make an antidote. If he knew anything about Scarecrow, it was that he always changes his poisoned fear gas formula.
"Take a sample of her blood." Kaldur instructed. Bart nodded, taking a clean needle and drawing blood from her arm. Or at least trying too. June thrashed in his grip.
"Strap her down." Nightwing snapped as he entered the room. "Robin, call Leslie." Tim nodded and walked out of the room to call Leslie. When June was strapped to the bed, Bart quickly drew the blood and handed it to Kaldur.
"Dick, this is your expertise." Kaldur said. Nightwing nodded and examined the blood.
"it might take a while." He said quietly.
"Everyone out. Bart, stay. Kaldur, can you go get Caitlin and Jaime. Tell them to leave the twins with Alfred." Kaldur nodded and left the room with the team, leaving only Bart and Dick in there with a screaming June. Bart held her hand, rubbing it gently.
"Its not real June, its not real." He whispered in her ear. Her screaming continued, however.
"Dick, hurry please." Bart begged, flinching. He hated hearing the pain in June's voice.
"Almost done...not sure which one to use..." He muttered, looking at two bottles. Bart zipped over to him and inspected his work.
"That one." He pointed to the yellow liquid. Nightwing looked at him, but nodded. He was the grandson of a forensic scientist, Nightwing trusted his judgement. He quickly filled the antidote into a needle and injected it into June's arm. Her screams slowly ceased, but her eyes didn't open. She mumbled in her sleep and still cried, but it was an improvement.
"Stay with her, I'm going to try to contact Batman." Nightwing stood up and left the room. Bart nodded. Once Nightwing left the room, Bart continued to gently rub her hand. He knew it would help calm her down, even in this kind of situation. After a while, June fell completely asleep. He smiled. He got up and put a blanket on her. Bart kissed her forehead and went to go see if Nightwing was able to contact Batman. But when he got to the door, it opened and there stood Caitlin and Jaime.
"What is going on?" Why were we told to come here?" She asked.
"June was hit by fear gas." Bart explained, "Nightwing gave her the antidote. The others are still trying to lock up the villains."
"Alright. Lets go kill the Scarecrow." Caitlin growled, dragging Jaime.
"Cay wait! You're stretching my hood out!" Jaime said. Bart smiled. Boy Caitlin was mad now. Bart remembered what he was going to do and went to find Nightwing.
~With Caitlin and Jaime~
"Hold on Cay!" Jaime said as he did his best to get out of his wife's grip. Caitlin let go of his hood and looked at him.
"What."
"Think this out rationally." Jaime said slowly and calmingly, "June is fine now. We'll go an help take them back to Arkham, but you know killing anyone wont do anything." Caitlin took a deep breath.
"Okay, I'll put him in a body cast for six months, and then he can go to Arkham." Jaime sighed. He ran his fingers through his hair as he watches his wife walk away to get her uniform on. He armored up and waited for Caitlin to come back. After a couple of minutes of waiting, Caitlin came back.
"Alright, lets go put him in a body cast." She said simply.
~With Bart~
"Hey Dick!" He shouted, racing towards the former team leader.
"Did you manage to contact Batman?"
"Yeah. Threw a hissy fit when he found out. Practically forced Superman to steer the ship back."
"So when will he be back?" Bart asked.
"By the end of today." Nightwing said as he shifted his weight off his bad ankle.
"Good. June fell asleep, by the way. I'm going to stay with her." Dick nodded. Bart walked back towards the Med Bay and saw June still asleep. He smiled and went back to his seat, wand waited till she woke up. During the time, he started to doze off. When Bart woke back up, June's eyes were beginning to open.
"June.." He said softly. June looked at him, and began crying. Bart was taken aback. He quickly wrapped his arms around her, rubbing her back soothingly.
"Shhh, June, what's wrong?" But June kept on crying. She then buried her face in his chest and continued to cry. Bart continued to rub her back gently and did his best to calm her down. Once she was calmed down, Bart looked at her with worried eyes.
"June, what's wrong?"
"It felt so real...I felt scared." She said softly.
"It wasn't real." He said gently.
"I-I know and-" She chocked back sobs. Her bright green eyes met his anxiously, "Bart- you, you love me right?' His eyes widened, taken by surprise.
"Of course, June! Don't ever doubt that I don't." She sniffed, "Even with my bi-polar?"
"Hey," Bart took her hands in his and wiped her eyes. He locked her green orbs with his. "I will always love you. No matter what." June didn't know what to say. She just looked into his eyes. She then laid her head against his chest. Bart wrapped his arms around her and laid back into the bed. They continued to stay like that for a few minutes until June spoke.
"Hey Bart."
"Yeah?"
"I love you." June said quietly. Bart smiled.
"I love you too June." He kissed her forehead as June began crying again, softly.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked softly, brushing her hair out of her face.
"I don't know how I deserve you." She whispered.
"And I don't know what I did to deserve this amazing girl." He replied.
"The-the gas. It was terrifying." She leaned into his chest. "It really does show you your worst fear." Bart kissed her head once again and rubbed her back.
"But those fears wont happen. And I'll make sure of it." Bart said softly. June smiled a little.
"You are amazing." June told him, running a hand through his messy brown locks. He flashed her a grin.
"I know." He said jokingly as June giggled.
"So are you feeling better?" He asked. June looked at him with a smile.
"Yep! Thanks Bart." She said. Bart smiled and hugged her tightly. Just then, the door opened. June and Bart looked over and saw Caitlin and Jaime walk in.
"Don't worry June, Scarecrow is in a body cast now." Caitlin said with a smile. June sat up and rushed to hug her. Caitlin's eyes widened, a little surprised at her reaction.
"June..."
"Yeah Cay?"
"You kind of need to let go."
"No."
"June.."
"Why?"
"Because you're hurting my side even more." Caitlin said. June quickly let go and looked at her cousin with worry.
"What happened to your side?"
"Riddler thought it was a good idea to jab his staff in my side." Caitlin explained. Jaime walked up behind her and sat on the bed next to her. He proceeded to lift up the side of her uniform and looked at her side.
"It's a faint bruise but it will hurt in the morning. It's a pretty big one too." Jaime said. Caitlin nodded and turned back to her younger cousin.
"So are you feeling any better from the gas?"
"Yeah." June glanced at Bart, "I'm fine now." Caitlin smiled, and ruffled her hair. June frowned and straightened her hair.
"Your collarbone has a bruise too." Bart noted. Caitlin glanced at June tensely, but relaxed upon seeing it wasn't a love bite.
"I know, I really hate that staff." June complained.
"Yeah and it better be a bruise." Caitlin said. June sighed as her older cousin began to put her hair up.
"Geez Cay.."
"What?"
'How long has your hair gotten?" June said. Caitlin looked at her with a blank look. June looked at her with a weird look. Jaime and Bart looked at each other before Jaime leaned over to Bart.
"What are they doing?"
"I have no idea." Bart replied.
"it's cousin language." Dick explained, coming into the room. "They just stare each other and communicate from there."
"Creepy." Bart said.
"Totally." Jaime agreed.
"but yet, kind of cool." Bart admitted, with June and Caitlin still having a stare off. Caitlin then lifted her hand. She then poked Junes forehead with her two fingers.
"No June." She said. June looked at Caitlin with puppy dog eyes.
"Not going to happen." Caitlin said as she walked over to Jaime. Jaime suddenly grabbed her by her waist and pulled her into his lap.
"What is she asking for now?"
"She wants me to watch Harry Potter tonight." Caitlin said. Everyone except June gave her a look like she was insane.
"How di you get that from-" Dick shook his head, "Never mind." June looked at her brother with huge, round, adorable green doe eyes.
"Pleaasssee Dickie?" She asked, her voice turning innocent and begging. Dick tried to look away, but those eyes could stop wars.
"Agh, alright, but Jason's girlfriend is coming over for dinner-"
"NOT MY GIRLFRIEND!" Jason shouted down the hall after the zeta tubes announced his arrival a few moments earlier.
"YES SHE IS!" Dick shouted back. He smiled at June.
"Only if Scarlett wants to." June pouted, but nodded.
"Alright..."
"Alright June, go take a nap."
"I'm thirteen."
"You're thirteen, who just so happened to have been recently exposed to fear gas." Dick said as he picked her up and forcefully tucked her in.
"Bart, stay with her until she falls asleep. I don't want her out of bed." Dick said as June pouted.
"How about I stay with her." Caitlin said. She crossed her arms across her chest. Dick sighed and nodded. He turned and left the room leaving the four of them alone. Once he was gone, Caitlin turned to Bart.
"So how's Central?"
"Crazy, as always." He replied.
"Yeah, June told me about her last patrol with you- something about being kidnapped and having fun with you villains?"
"Yeah," Bart chuckled while nervously scratching the back of his neck. "My villains are more like family."
"It would be nice if out villains were like that." Caitlin said. June nodded. Jaime agreed as he wrapped his arms around Caitlin's waist loosely.
"Are you sure we should leave the twins with Alfred?" Caitlin asked Jaime.
"I'm sure he's fine. He's probably enjoying the time with them." Jaime said as he rested his chin on her shoulder.
"That's most likely true." Jaime said. Caitlin smiled to herself. It was probably true.
"Besides, you guys need a break." June added, "you've been busy with them nonstop." Jaime and Caitlin exchanged sheepish looks.
"So which one do you think will develop the canary cry?" Bart asked, "I man, they both have a chance to have it even though..." He trailed off.
"Uh, I think if it'll be one, it'll be Victoria."
"I have to agree." Jaime said. He brought Caitlin closer to him.
"Jaime will you stop? Honestly, your like a little kid begging for candy." Caitlin said as she tried to get out of her husbands grasp. June's eyes suddenly lit up.
"Cay! I just remembered! I took my meds for a whole week. Chocolate bar please." Caitlin cursed.
"Damn, I was hoped you'd have forgotten." June gave her a smug smile.
"I'll give it to you when we get back home. Your lucky we already had dinner." Caitlin said. Jaime then pulled Caitlin closer again.
"Jaime! Knock it off!" She said. Jaime pouted.
"I don't wanna."
"Oh stop being a baby." Caitlin pushed him off. Batman entered-no, appeared- in the room.
"June. How are you feeling?" June looked at him, and wrapped her father in a hug. His eyes widened but he hugged her back.
"Wow.." Caitlin said quietly. June hardly ever hugged Bruce like that. It was always kind of weird to see it.
"So I take it your feeling better." Batman said. June nodded and looked up at him.
"Do you have a chocolate bar?"
"No, why?"
"Because Caitlin said if I take my medicine all week, then I can have any sweets I want." June explained. Batman looked over at Caitlin with a glare.
"Don't give me that look! If I didn't make the deal, she wouldn't take her medicine. SO you can thank me." Caitlin said. Bruce continued glaring, but eventually turned to Dick.
"Put the antidote in gas pellets." He said, "We may need it later." Dick nodded. Bruce looked back at June.
"Are you going to let go of me?"
"No." She tightened her grip.
"June...that's enough. Let go."
"No can do Bruce. The hug train has already left the station. And the hug train makes no stops." June said as she looked up at him. Bruce looked at her with a weird look. He sighed and turned to Caitlin for help.
"Sorry Bruce, I've got problems of my own. Jaime! Stop it!" Caitlin said. Jaime latches onto Caitlin.
"What? No hugs for me?" Bart whined. June giggled and kissed him, still holding onto Bruce.
"I think its time for the hug train to come back to the station." Bruce said as he tried to get out of June's grip. But June kept a tight grip on her father.
"Sorry Bruce. The hug train makes no stops."
"Dick...please help me." Bruce said as his oldest son returned to the room. He smiled and walked over. He used this opportunity to hug Bruce himself, Bruce groaned. He had work to do and his children decided to make sure he wouldn't. He turned back to Caitlin for more help.
"Caitlin..."
"Sorry Bruce. It seems Jaime wont let go of me." Caitlin said as she shrugged.
"I still want a hug.." Bart sulked. June stuck her tongue out and buried her face into her fathers chest.
"Dick, you are a full grown man. Stop hugging me!"
"Never!" Dick said. Bruce groaned. How did he get stuck into this? He decided to just deal with it. Bart looked at June with disappointment. June continued to stick her tongue out at him.
"I'll see you later Bruce." Caitlin said as she finally got out of Jaime's grasp and got up.
"Where are you going?" He asked with a stern voice.
"Bruce, I'm married. I can do what I want." She said as she grabbed Jaime's hand and lead him out of the room. Bruce groaned once again.
"June why are you so clingy all of a sudden?" Bruce asked gently. June looked at him. She looked like a little kid.
"I- the fear gas.." She mumbled out, clinging onto him tighter. Bruce turned to Dick and glared at him. Dick quickly let go of Bruce. Bruce took hold of June's arms, pried them off of him and squatted down so he was eye to eye with her. Then he brought her into a hug.
"Why don't I take you home ok?" Bruce asked. June nodded. He picked her up and left the room with Dick following. Bart quickly got up and followed them.
"Bart." June asked softly as they entered Wayne Manor.
"Yeah?"
"Can I have a chocolate bar?" She asked sleepily. Bart tried to hide a smile.
"Sure, June." He kisses her cheek and sped to the manors kitchen. He then sped back with a chocolate bar in his hand. He handed it to June, who gladly took it. Bart sat down on the couch next to June and put his arm around her shoulders. She then began eating her chocolate bar. She started giggling insanely. Bart shifted nervously. Her sugar rushes were scary...
"Love you Bart." She whispered.
"I love you too." He kissed her forehead. Bruce shifted uncomfortably, still in the room.
"Hey, June, you alright?" Tim asked as he walked into the room with Jason.
