The clock struck 2:45 in the afternoon as Shinichi ran out of the hospital, careful not to set off any passing nurses. She breathed, overjoyed she made it out. Hospitals were hell for Shinichi. A boring hell.
She grabbed her school bag with her clothes in them and entered the nearest bathroom. Once in there, she began to change out of the light hospital gown (absoutely horrid and somewhat breezy) and into her gym clothes, not wanting to be caught in her obvious school uniform.
"Okay." Shinichi said to herself, examining her appearance in the mirror. She looked more lively than before, possibly thanks to the hospital staff basically force feeding her and making her sleep for a reasonable amount of time. Hospitals weren't all bad. Just... mostly.
She ran toward the bathroom door, eager to get home, maybe work on some cold cases she had missed during her absense. Pulling open the door, she nearly knocked down an older woman with red hair.
"Oh my!" The red haired woman gasped, jumping backward. Shinichi shifted to the side expression twisting, trying not to bump into the poor woman. Nearly falling over, Shinichi recovered and looked back at the red haired woman. The beautiful, red haired woman. "Do be more careful, dear."
Shinichi paused and took in the woman's dazzling appearance. Tall, slim, poised, with a dash of freckles complimenting her appled colored locks. Her eyes were sea green, such a pretty shade.
"Dear?"
"Ah." Shinichi snapped out of her trance and bowed in apology. "I'm so sorry, ma'am." The red haired woman smiled, sighing deeply.
"It's quite alright. It just came as a bit of a shock to me." She stuck out her had as Shinichi straightened. "Caroline Crider."
Shinichi took her light hand. So soft. Though, Shinichi was also considerably pale, it was more sickly. The woman's, Caroline's, was a pretty shade, most likely due to her coming for a foreign country.
"Kudou Shinichi." Shinichi introduced herself, composing herself.
Caroline's eyes widened as they broke hand contact. She covered her matching red lips with her hand. "Kudou? As in the famous teen detective and daughter of the renowned Yukiko and Yuusaku!?" Her voice grew as she put her face at an uncomfortable proximity from Shinichi's. "T-The actress and author!?"
Shinichi took a step back, holding out her hands. "Yes... I-"
"N-Nice to meet you!" She regrabbed her hand and shook it again, much more violently. Shinichi shook up and down. "I've come from my home country in hopes to meet the most amazing teen I've ever heard about!"
"I-I see. Um, Miss Crider," She pulled at her hand, hoping to break away from the woman's iron grip, "you're hurting my hand..."
"Eh...?" Caroline blinked, rebooting her mind. "O-Oh my!" Her hands flew up as she dropped Shinichi's. Shinichi rubbed her wrist giving Caroline a passive look. "I-I'm so sorry!" Caroline did an awkward bow, obviously not used to Japanese customs.
"Quite alright." Shinichi assured the woman. She examined the red marks on her hand and silently sighed. "Quite alright..."
"Kudou-san!" A voice in the distace could be heard. A feminine, recognizable voice of one of Shinichi's real nurse. Oh no. "Please, where are you! Kudou-san!"
Caroline sent a questioning look as Shinichi stiffened. "Bad." Shinichi gripped her head. "I'm not going back in that hospital." She mentally groaned, scolding herself and cursing the woman for appearing so suddenly. She should've been home by now! Or, at least, as far away from this horrid place as possible.
Shinichi leaned against the wall and peaked around the corner of the restroom building. The nurse was getting closer. Shinichi looked back and stared at the fence in front of her, knowing there was no other choice (but of course there was another choice, but Shinichi was extremely passionate about leaving the hospital). She ran ahead and gripped the metal, lifting her leg slightly.
Caroline, not exactly sure of the situation, interjected, "Erm... Someone seems to be searching for you, Miss Kudou." Shinichi let out a strangled sigh as she climbed higher, thinking, Yeah, I haven't noticed. Caroline tilted her head, curious to what Shinichi was doing. "Why are you-"
Shinichi threw herself over the edge and stumbled on the ground, still somehow managing not to fall. "Climbing the fence?" She finished for Caroline. "Because," She spotted the nurse, rounding the corner, "I'm healed and healthy!" She raised her voice, making sure the nurse caught every syllable.
"Healed? Healthy?" Caroline questioned as the nurse sped past her to the metal seperating her patient from her. Caroline watching, somewhat confused and entertained, as the girl sped away.
The nurse let out a desperate cry for Shinichi. "Kudou-san! Oh, now I can see why she was friends with that strange boy from earlier!" She fixed her skirt and ran back the way she came.
Caroline stood there alone, processing the scene she had just witnessed. "Pffft-" She doubled over slightly, shaking and covering her grin. "Ahahaha! O-Oh my! What an interesting girl!" Still trembling from laughter, she took out a newspaper clipping from inside her bra.
She stared ts the picture of the smug looking teen detective who was basking in the attention of photographers and journalists. "Hmm, hmm. What a change Kudou-san. Have you finally grown up?"
Ran, who had cooled down considerably, trotted to the hospital entry. In her hands were some flowers and coffee beans (sweets were out of the question, so she got the next best thing). She knew she was fairly harsh to Shinichi that morning, so she picked up some gifts as an apology.
Her soft fingertips layed on the entrence. She paused. Not sure why, she felt as if she should just turn around and leave. Meet Shinichi later once she was released.
"I have this odd feeling," Ran muttered to herself with a dark look, "that this visit will leave me upset and angry with Shinichi again... Just that feeling." Oh, she definatly should've listened to it.
Upon opening the door, she was greeted with a disordered staff, making phone calls left and right. She caught a few, "-patient is missing" and "-Kudou-san can't be found" 's
Her arm twitched as the flowers fell from her hands, one by one, then the whole bouquet. The coffee beans followed. "Oh, she's gonna get it when I- Oof!" Ran was cut short as a nurse, reconized as Shinichi's, bumped into her.
The nurse, obviously disgruntled, continued on her way to the front desk, shouting, "Kudou-san just ran out the premises!"
She definately should've listened to her instincts...
