Prompt #68: Every guy from 2.0 getting cockblocked by Elliot Stabler

Five Times Elliot Proved Olivia was Unavailable

Chapter 1

~oOo~

David Haden hadn't ever met a woman like Olivia Benson. She was funny and smart. Passionate and dedicated. Beautiful. He couldn't help inviting her out for drinks despite what a bad idea it might end up being, given their careers.

It wasn't that an ADA couldn't ask a detective out, but it was frowned upon.

A conflict of interest.

But the more time he spent with her while working the case, the more he had to ask her out. He figured the worst that could happen was a no. So when they were at the same event, it seemed almost like divine intervention.

It was the perfect opening.

Glancing around the room, David wasn't surprised how Olivia had captured the audience with her speech. He noticed a man at the back—definitely a cop or military. He had the haircut, the build and the bearing.

He stood out because of how absolutely laser-focused he was on Olivia. Not that David could blame him. She was like the brightest light, drawing in everyone around her.

David followed her outside after both of their speeches were finished. He couldn't help posing the question. "Dinner?"

"I'm actually still on duty. Besides, I'm a cop, and you're a DA." Olivia offered a smile and started to walk away from him. "Have a good night."

"Hey," David called out to her, wanting to leave her with a good impression. "Don't wait too long to see Paris."

He thought maybe he caught a gleam in her eyes, but she walked away without a backward glance. It didn't hurt to try again. He figured maybe she'd give him a chance.

"I don't blame you for asking her. My Liv's a beautiful woman. Never been anyone like her."

David glanced back to find the guy from the back seat had followed them out of the building. He'd been seated at the back and hadn't seemed overly important. "Can I help you?"

"Elliot Stabler." His blue eyes twinkled in apparent amusement. "Don't worry about Paris. I'll take her there eventually."

"Excuse me?" David wondered if he needed to report the man for stalking Olivia.

"It's like I said. I can't blame you for trying. She's beautiful and vivacious. It's a powerful draw. I should know. She was my partner for thirteen years. But…she's not available for dinner." Elliot smirked when Olivia came walking up to him. "There you are. Hey, baby. Ready to go?"

"El. Really?" She turned her attention to David while looping her arm around Elliot's. "Have a good night, David."

He watched the couple walk away. They were almost perfectly in sync. "Good night."
