Juvia's P.O.V

I licked my top lip. Blood, just as I thought. Damn, this was taking longer than I had intended. My hair had stuck to my sweat ridden forehead as my lungs screamed for air. My opponent looked worse for wear, I knew that I had gotten stronger. "It seems..." the man croaked out, "it seems, we have reached an impasse." I didn't understand what came over me at that point. I chuckled menacingly, sputtering blood all over the dirt road. The man flinched back from me. "Ah.." I grinned. "It's not over, until you're ten feet under the ground." The man stopped for a second and returned the smile. He tipped his hat mutual agreement. Whatever, the contractor said to retrieve that stupid watch by any means necessary, so killing him shouldn't be a problem. "Must be important" I thought. A few more water slashes to his chest and legs, the man could barely stand. I couldn't feel half my body so I struggled as well. "The poison.." he said quietly. "The poison must be working on breaking down the defenses of your body, slithering through your veins right down to your pumping heart. Paralyzing your reaction and emotion, slowing down your thought process." He fell on his knees before me as I leaned on a nearby tree support. I laughed sincerely. "I'm used to it, dear sir. Though it was no mere street poison, no, it was the deadly kind." He eyed me questioningly. "How is that you survived, miss?" I looked at him but beyond him, away in lost memories. "Passion is poisonous, my good sir. God believed I deserved to see another dawn and prosper in what little life I had left. And so, it has led to our crossing." A fire grew in his eyes. "Such petty thoughts, surely you can endure a little bit of a broken heart and wounded pride." He clutched onto his chest, obviously ignoring the piercing sting of his injuries. "Emotion leads no where but despair and demise, they are for the weak." I had moved toward him, gaining a little sanity back. I kicked him in the chest, only for him to fall backwards with a meaty groan. I placed my boot on the crook of his neck and ripped off the chain which held the watch from around his throat. He squirmed under me and seemed to be saying his last prayers with his emotionless gaze. I leaned in a bit to his face and gored my sight into his eyes. "It is.." I paused. "It is emotion, that spares you today." A clean punch to the nose, and he was knocked out.

Time Shift

I threw open the doors of the pub where the contractor was waiting. It seemed like everyone stopped and decided I was the center of attention. My appearance had really taken a shift. I grew my hair out down to my elbows and had it permanently straightened out by some crazy salon mage who smelled of rotten strawberries. My uniform had become more.. modern, if you will; a light blue v-neck T shirt, cream shorts, dark brown belt with dark brown combat boots and a tan shoulder bag. "Ah, Juvia-chan, welcome back." the red haired man said as he smiled crookedly. "I prefer Juvia, sir." I retorted sternly. He chuckled dryly. "Where are my manners? Well, Miss Juvia, do you have what I asked for?" He stood up and I hesitated, since he was about a foot taller than me and his ferocious brown eyes burned into mine as I stared accidently memorized. I snapped out of my trance quickly and regained my composure. "Here," I grabbed the chained watched out of my bag and placed it gently in his out reached hand. "I suppose you have the reward ready for me?" "Why of course my dear Juvia." He motioned one of his men to bring a large sack. "500,000 jewels, as promised." I grabbed the sack and opened it quickly to check if the amount seemed correct. When everything checked out, I closed the sack and gave the man one last glance before turning around and heading to the door. "Pleasure doing business with you, sir." I smirked as I walked swiftly out of the pub. "As with you, Miss Juvia." He replied in an uncanny tone. I sighed with relief and exhaustion as the sunlight sparkled unto my pale skin. Finally glad that was over with, there was something strange about that man. I shrugged off the feeling of doubt, it was just another job after all.

Time Shift

The night breeze filled my lungs with bliss. It was a warm summer night, just the perfect temperature. The town's people were still out, dancing in the dim candle light to a soft guitar tune. It was so lively, even at night. The town of Holy welcomed me with open arms when I first arrived. Each person knew the other and it was like a one giant family tree that spread its roots to every edge of town. I had hoped to be a part of a family again, with nakama and the whole package of emotions with it but I drifted through this unknown land for quite some time, not recognizing any similar feeling. This town was the closest I could get, even though I liked to be alone after all that had happened. It seemed comforting to know you had no one to please, just yourself; being selfish for the first time. The cobblestone path was soft under my sore feet and the moths swayed around the illuminating street lamps. Aside from taking regular mage jobs, I landed one with the harbor master, as the town was a fishing town near a body of water. And considering I was made of water, it felt good being needed for something again, having a bit of worth. "Gah" I thought in frustration, "Enough with the self pity, Juvia. Sheesh, just live a little." My new conscience tampered with my depressive thoughts to keep me alert, forcing me to wriggle out of the sadness. I had rented an apartment near the harbor, to watch the water glisten through the moon beams. Of course, I never got enough sleep since I was always dragged into a party or some festive activity. That or when I would sneak into my room for some shut eye, the music would be a little too loud. I didn't mind though, it was a beautiful expression of happiness and tranquility. "Hey, Juvia!" someone called out, snapping me out of my admiring thoughts. I looked over to meet a pare of lime green spheres which would make any girl melt in a split second. The man that called my name was leaned against the open bar with a drink in his hand. Ah, my coworker on the harbor. I didn't really know his name, I just remember he talked a lot while I tried to listen. Though he was quite attractive; tall, dark black hair which fell perfectly on his head, sharp features, broad shoulders. I winced at him as the wind blew my hair into my face. "Yes?" I asked trying to sound tired as I faced him. He may have been a good looking man, but I was unmoved by his pathetic attempts he called "charm". He pushed himself off the bar and walked towards me. "How are you Juvia?" He asked with a flashy grin. "Tired." I retorted quickly. His grin shifted into a soft smile. "Shall I whisk you away in my arms and carry you to your humble abode? After all, the temptation is radiating off your skin." He got dangerously close to me and leaned in a bit into my face while speaking. I shuddered. "I have two legs that work perfectly fine, thanks, As for my skin, I'd rather believe its radiating sweat and sea salt." I snapped back. I pushed him with one hand, giving me room to breathe since all I smelt on his breath was cheap beer. He laughed and looked at me curiously. "You know I have yet to be rejected, come on Juvs. Come have a drink with me." he urged. I winced as my nickname he so blatantly gave me. His seaweed eyes shone with encouragement and friendliness, but had an edge of lust to them. I didn't even know his name and he almost talked me into having a drink with him. Damn, Juvia get a hold of yourself. "Well, there's a first for everyone," I patted him on the chest and turned around toward my apartment. "Have a good night." I called behind me while walking, leaving him to contemplate what had just happened. I still had some ripped pieces of my heart to mend before I let myself trust again.
