"Alissa?" Joey asked through her bedroom door. "Can I come in?"
"No," came the muffled reply.
"Come on, please? I brought ya some sushi." There was a loud sigh from inside her room followed by the sound of footsteps. I'm goin' ta kill Kaiba, Joey thought when Alissa finally opened the door and he saw her. She was a wreck. Her eyes were red and puffy and it looked like she hadn't gotten any sleep for the past couple days. A few weeks ago, Joey had been at her apartment for the same reason and now he was here again. All because of Kaiba. Although she hadn't said it, he knew that the young CEO was the person behind her feelings of despair. She had texted Joey two days before to cancel lunch plans with him to discuss something with the brunet CEO. She never said what the topic of the discussion was going to be, but her sour mood started after she had seen him. Joey entered her room and sat on the end of her bed. Once she had shut the door behind him, she joined him on her bed. He handed her the container with her sushi and she dug in like she hadn't eaten in days, and she probably hadn't. Alissa was one of those people that when she got really upset, she'd cut herself off and not leave her room even to eat.
"We're all worried about ya."
"You shouldn't be," she said through a mouthful of sushi.
"Your mom said dat you've barely left your room." She rolled her eyes.
"Of course she did."
"What happened?"
"Seto Kaiba is an asshole, that's what happened."
"We all knew dat already. Now tell me what happened. Why did ya want ta talk ta Kaiba the other day?"
"I wanted to talk to him about getting back together."
"What? Why would ya want ta do dat?"
"After everything that Ishizu said and-."
"Wait, what did Ishizu say?"
"I asked her about my weird dreams I had been having. She told me they were premonitions of the past and apparently Seto and I will always find a way into each other's hearts. Oh, don't look at me like that, those were her words, not mine."
"I'd hate ta be stuck wid dat jerk in one lifetime, let alone all of 'em" He smiled sheepishly under her hard gaze. "Sorry, keep goin'."
"Anyway, after all the things Ishizu said and everything that happened in Egypt, I thought that getting back together was what we both wanted."
"So what happened? Did he say dat he didn't wanna get back together?"
"That wasn't all he said. He told me that he never loved me, Joey." Just like that, the tears returned and she began to sob.
"Alissa, please don't cry," Joey put his arm around her shoulder and dragged her into his chest. "Don't waste anymore energy cryin' over dat jerk."
"But I love him." Joey sighed and ran a comforting hand through her hair.
"I know ya do, but if he's gonna do shit like dis, den he ain't worth da trouble. Ya gotta move on and find someone else."
"I can't."
"Ya need ta. He never deserved ya, Alissa."
"No, I never deserved him. He's attractive, successful, and intelligent. I'm just some girl who slept with guys to survive and is too emotionally unstable to do anything. I wasn't enough."
"If ya were a guy, I'd hit ya for sayin' stuff like dat. Look at me, Alissa. You're beautiful, you're smart, you're funny, you're talented, and you are always enough. You're worth more 'den ya can ever imagine. You are capable to do anythin' ya set your mind to. Don't let some asshole who doesn't know when he has somethin' perfect ruin dat for ya." She buried her face further into his chest as she continued to cry. He stayed with her, rubbing small circles on her back and whispering words of comfort intermittently. He stayed with her even after she had fallen asleep

Seto sighed and paused his typing to rub his eyes. As if rubbing them would actually relieve the exhaustion he felt. It had been three days since his and Alissa's last encounter and he had barely gotten ten hours of sleep over those three days. He hated himself for what he had to say to Alissa, but he had to drive her away. And the only way to do that was to break her heart. Although he knew that his decision was for the best, it didn't make it any easier to make, or cope with.
"Mr. Kaiba? There's a Mr. Wheeler here to see you," his secretary paged through the intercom. He sighed in irritation and massaged the bridge of his nose. As if things weren't difficult enough.
"Send him in." A minute or two later, a very angry Joey came crashing through the double doors of Seto's office.
"You're a real piece of work, ya know dat, Kaiba?"
"Make it quick, Wheeler. I have better things to do with my time then sit here and converse with you." The brunet shifted his gaze to his computer and continued to type.
"How could ya-hey! Look at me when I'm talkin' ta ya, asshole! How could ya say dose dings ta Alissa? After everythin' she's done for ya?"
"And what exactly has she done for me besides soak up more than six months of my time?"
"If I recall correctly, she saved your ass on quite a few occasions, Rich Boy! Now are ya gonna tell me why ya said dose dings ta her? In Egypt ya freaked when I said ya never cared about her, den a week or two later, ya tell her that ya never cared about her? Who da hell do ya think you are?"
"I don't need to explain myself to the likes of you."
"Ya know, Kaiba, I'm finally starting ta understand ya."
"Are you now?"
"Yeah, you're a compartmentalized thinker, and quite frankly it pisses me off. Whatever ya don't want ta think about gets hidden by your subconscious because you're scared. Well guess what, Kaiba, it's time ta put on your big boy pants an' get used to da fact dat ya wanna be wid' Alissa. I hate ta say dis, but she needs ya, and whether ya like it or not, you need her too. Christ, even I'm not dat dense ta ignore dat, Kaiba." During the blond's speech, Seto had stopped typing and narrowed his eyes at the young man across the room.
"You don't know what you're talking about, Wheeler."
"Believe whatever ya want ta, Kaiba. If ya choose ta accept da fact dat ya still want ta be with Alissa, I hope for your sake dat ya figure it out soon. She's a beautiful, kind, and talented girl. She's not gonna wait forever for ya ta stop being scared."
"Do I need to call security or can you see yourself out?"
"Whatever, Kaiba. I'll leave, but ya should know dat ya just proved my point. Ya act like you're too big ta care or show emotion, but deep down you're just a scared little kid. Frankly, I feel sorry for ya, because ya may have just lost da best ding dat is ever goin' ta happen ta ya." Seto frowned as he watched Joey leave. He clenched his fists tightly until his knuckles turned white. He let out an angry roar and smacked all the papers he had been working on off of his desk. He rested his elbows on his desk and held his head in his hands. It was killing him, but Joey was right.

Burger World was packed. Ever since the Tuesday night live music started, crowds of people began coming to Burger World. The diner was already a pretty popular place, but now because of Alissa and her fellow band members, the place was more popular than ever. Alissa sat up at the bar with Joey, Yugi, Tristan, and Tea. She sipped on a tall glass of water as she waited for her fifteen-minute break to end.
"So how is it working with the band?" Yugi asked.
"It's great! They're all really great! I was unsure at first because none of us knew that we were all chosen and we'd never played together before, but it all worked out great." She downed the rest of her water and climbed off the barstool. "Well, I better hop back up there. Are we still hanging out after?"
"Of course, Alissa. We'll see you after!"
'Okay, later guys!" She hopped back onto the small stage that Burger World had set up. She looked at the door when the bell jingled. She froze. Seto and Mokuba stood at the entrance of the restaurant. Mokuba went ahead to pick out a table, while the older Kaiba remained frozen. The ex couple locked eyes. Great, I didn't know that she'd gotten the job. If I had known, I would've told Mokuba to choose somewhere else. Yugi caught sight of Seto making his way into the diner and frowned.
"Uh oh."
"What is he doing here?" Joey saw Alissa's somber expression and hopped down from the stool.
"I'd better make sure dat she's gonna be alright." Before Joey could make his way over to Alissa, she shook her head and turned her attention to her band mates. She conversed with them for a moment before she approached the microphone at the front of the stage.
"Okay, welcome back everyone! So the next song is one of my favorites. If you're familiar with Victoria Justice, then I'm sure you'll recognize it. This song goes out to any of you that just had a breakup." She nodded at her band mates and the music started. She grabbed onto the microphone stand and began to sing.
"You had it all the day you told me (told me) you want me
I had it all but let you fool me (fool me) completely
Yeah I was so stupid to give you all my attention
'Cause the way you played me exposed your true intentions
And one day I'll have you beggin' on your knees for me
Yeah one day I'll have you crawlin' like a centipede
You mess with me and mess with her
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve
Yeah one day you'll be beggin' on your knees for me
So watch your back 'cause you don't know when or where I can get you
I've set the trap and when I'm done then you'll know what I've been through
So oh, Mister Player, do you feel like the man now?
And I bet you're nervous 'cause this song makes you freak out
And one day I'll have you beggin' on your knees for me
Yeah one day I'll have you crawlin' like a centipede
You mess with me (yeah) and mess with her (yeah)
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve (yeah)
Yeah one day you'll be beggin' on your knees for me
I know I'm being bitter but I'mma drag you under
'Cause you just don't, don't deserve "Happy ever after"
For what you did to me after you told me you never felt that way
It was only just a game
(You had it all)
(And one day)
And one day I'll have you beggin' on your knees for me (beggin' on your knees for me)
Yeah one day I'll have you crawlin' like a centipede (crawlin' like a centipede)
You mess with me (yeah) and mess with her (yeah)
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve (yeah)
Yeah one day you'll be beggin' on your knees for me." The crowd in the diner clapped and roared at the ending chord. Alissa threw a smug smile in Seto's direction. She couldn't help but smile wider at the deep frown between his brows.
"Thanks guys! We'll be back here in a week. Enjoy the rest of your night everyone!" The crowd clapped again as Alissa jumped off the stage and approached her friends.
"Dude, that was awesome!" Tristan said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, ya shoulda' seen da look on Rich Boy's face while ya were up dere."
"You should've taken photographic evidence for me," Alissa replied with a wide grin. She looked over her shoulder to see Seto still glaring at her. It didn't take a genius to know that the song she just sang was directed at him. Suddenly, an idea formed in her head. If he was irritated now, he was about to be furious.
"You know, Joey. I never got to thank you for coming by and taking care of me a few weeks ago."
"Ya don't need ta thank me, Alissa. You're my friend, I'd do anythin' for ya."
"Well, thank you." Without warning, she grabbed onto the front of Joey's shirt and brought his lips down to hers in a fierce kiss. Ha, suck on that one, asshole.
