Part 19 Revelations

While they had received a brief spiel earlier the full story of how the Modern Council came to be had many at the table sitting there stunned. Lydia was almost panicked at the idea of so many slayers being around. However Tommy took her hand and whispered softly. "Buffy promised you we would be safe there is no need to morph out. Besides I don't think we could take so many slayers. I would rather be peaceable like. Maybe they are simply the police department for the supernatural world. If you look at it like that then maybe we don't have to worry because you and me and T.J. we have never broken any of their laws or rules. Even your mom should be golden. She just wants to live and spoil T.J. so we should not have a problem. I mean it will be no different than Jane and Frankie being a cop really."

This logic made Lydia relax a little. She was still wary but Tommy made a lot of sense which was kind of shocking but then again not because despite everything he was a Rizzoli and they were all really smart. Plus she knew her da had been a little wild and maybe he had stepped out and broken the laws of the slayers. It was in the past and even good people made mistakes. Maybe the slayer in New York had made one too. It was all a long time ago and while she missed her da she was not going to let the past endanger her, Tommy or T.J.

Jane heard her youngest brother's words and strangely enough found it made a kind of sense. However to her mind being a cop was a choice. It sounded like when one became a slayer there wasn't a choice at all. It simply was. Ok maybe at the battle of Sunnydale some girls chose to be strong but did they really, really have any idea what they were agreeing to? That bugged her a lot. However she knew that Buffy and Faith had never even had the right of refusal so maybe in a way they had tried to be fair. It still rubbed her the wrong way and she had to point that out. Forgetting that becoming a slayer had saved her life.

"The new slayers were drafted into this fight and now several have died." She pointed out. "Did they even know what for?"

Willow reacted as if slapped and Buffy looked ill. However she was not about to let Jane second guess the impossible choice they had made back then. "If we had not called all the slayers then the world would be overrun with demons and not the kind who like Lydia and her mom want to live and let live. Angel and his crew faced down a horde of them a little while after Sunnydale and they did not survive the battle. It took all they had and even our arriving barely stopped hell on earth. Had we not called the new slayers then hell would have opened at Sunnydale. If we had not arrived when we did into L.A. then hell on earth would have come then as well. We don't like we that we had to ask a bunch of young women to join the fight but at least we asked. That was a choice they had one Faith and I and all who came before us was denied. If we had not called them then one by one they would have still had to fight as the slayer before fell in battle to save a world that would be overrun. We at least gave them a choice and the slayers at Sunnydale gave them a chance."

"A chance at dying for a cause they did not choose?" Angela said. "Who were you to make those poor girls fight?"

Buffy glared at the matriarch of the Rizzoli clan because her question was one she had always struggled with. However she would not show weakness. It was not her choice to be a slayer either at least they gave the women a choice in being strong or not. "I am the Slayer. We had no choice if the world was to survive. It went from the whole "One girl in all the world" to many. Yes some of us still die that is part of the gig sadly. However now for the most part the girls have lives to live; before I became the slayer the average life span was less than a year two if they were good. The longest living slayer in modern times lived seven years. I only lasted a little over a year."

"How is that possible you are sitting right here?" Angela asked she instinctively crossed herself. The dead did not walk the earth well except maybe vampires. She did not like where this was going.

Buffy laughed humorously. "I drowned and my friend Xander revived me splitting the slayer line. Making me forever above it, he meant well but it changed things and allowed the possibility of many slayers. The life is not easy and it's not what most would choose but it is a life. That Mrs. Rizzoli is more than the old council allowed." There was no way she was telling the woman that she had died more than once and that Willow had brought her back from heaven. That was still a very sore spot and it was not something she would share at so short an acquaintanceship.

"What do you mean?" Korsak asked. He was concerned for Jane and Maura and knew that they were being given the truth but in small parts. Maybe the Council and the Isles meant well but Korsak was the rip the band aid off type of a guy and he wanted all the bad news now. It would be simpler and easier to deal with.

Buffy frowned and looked away. She then glanced at William Isles who sighed. Once more he went into watcher mode.

"In the past the old council would take potential slayers from their families. They did this so the girls would be isolated and dedicated to the fight. It was all they knew and all they had. While they did receive an education it was not one that would really ever allow them to be outside of the council. Even those that were never "called" to be a slayer rarely left the council simply because they were ill equipped to live in the modern world. The isolation made them socially awkward." He winced a little at this. Knowing that he and Constance had by accident more than design isolated Maura the same way, "It meant they lived for the fight and died for it. If they were called their only real contact and connection would be their watcher and maybe a few of his associates."

"That's barbaric." Maura said. She glared at her father not believing he had once been a part of that system. "How could they do that to children?"

"It was and it was hard. However they thought they had a system that worked." Constance said. "While I was raised with my family I had several similar constraints put on me. I was seen as stuck up and cold when really it was the council dictating my life. It was part of the deal my parents made to keep me home. The wealth and power they wielded only protected me so much. In the end the choices were not all that simple or easy. I also think that the thought of losing me made my family distance itself to protect them. They always had to be careful because Travers was never one to be trusted. He was a master manipulator." Constance said. "In fact I meet your father through the council and I still hate that we have to thank him for bringing us together."

Maura was shocked to hear this but looking at the members of the Council she could see that they were not in the least bit surprised.

"Why would you marry someone involved with such an organization?" Maura asked she did not notice her father flinch at her question. She had not intended to hurt him and he said nothing.

"I never intended to be involved with your father. That was more or less and accident. You see I had a friend who was a fellow potential one who was sadly called." Constance said. "While I did not know Nicki as well as I would have liked she had spirit and guts. She was I believe the longest living slayer until Miss Summers. Nicki was another slayer that the Council missed. She was in New York and we crossed paths quite by accident but, we did become friends and she helped me not be so bitter because at least I had a strong support system."

"Well technically she was because I did die at 16." Buffy said. "Nicki Woods was an exceptional woman. Robin her son runs our Cleveland school. He is one of our top leaders here in the United States and helps run all of the North American Division."

"I was there when he was born. He was a very cute baby."Constance said. "He is my godson though I am sure he thinks I abandoned him. However Nicki did name her watcher Bernard as his guardian to protect him from the council. The best William and I could do was set up a trust fund for him when the old council cut off funds to him and the watcher. However his mother's former watcher kept him from us we presume it was to keep him safe and away from our world that is the supernatural one. I would have raised him as my own had it been allowed. However he stayed with the watcher and from what we know went on to be a successful educator. I guess he was supposed to be away from this life and life style though that appears not to be the case." Constance gave Buffy a hard look thinking she recruited Wood. "He should have been free of the supernatural he paid enough I think."

"He came to us actually. He was the last principle of Sunnydale High. He was really a good one to. It's why he runs our school in Cleveland. He is an awesome fighter but a much better principle in fact I wish he had been ours." Buffy said. "Wood has a way with the girls and they all respect him. He has managed to help integrate Slayers, Watchers and Wicca into a solid school unit."

"I so gota agree on that one. Flutie was ok but clueless about the real world and it cost him his life and Snyder was nasty he knew about the dark and did nothing to help fight it. Wood well he's cool; he knows the truth but still a great educator. I am sure Nicki would have been proud of him." Willow said.

"I could have had a brother?" Maura said. "I wish you had raised him. I would have liked to have had an older brother."

"You have a brother a twin." Paddy said. "Mathew is a fine man and I hope you can meet him one day. I am sure Robin Wood will understand if you ever meet him again Constance. Life was rather uncertain back then. I can see why Bernard did what he did. I don't agree with his cutting you off but then again if he had not maybe you would not have wanted a second child."

"Crowley did what he did because he was punishing us for the Cruciamentum which I tried to stop. I failed so he kept Robin from us in revenge. He sent Nicki to Mexico but our foundation paid for that and I would have paid hunters to keep Nicki safe as Constance saw her as family. But sadly the past is done with all we can do is move on." William said clearly bitter. "I tried to stop it and I tried to protect Li for Nicki but he was not aware of the night life and it cost him."

Maura suddenly realized her parents had cared for Nicki and Robin and losing them may have caused them to keep her a little at arm's length. Not that they had meant to. It changed her view of them and even made her understand a little. It still hurt but maybe just maybe they had done the best they could given their own wounded souls.

Angela too understood however she felt bad for Maura. It seemed her family had old wounds to heal. She knew Constance and even William loved Maura but they were not good at showing it and maybe the past had made that harder for them. She resolved to help them all heal and maybe bring this Robin into the family as well. He sounded like a good man.

"Robin would probably like to see you again." Faith said. "What he told me about the trust fund. He also told me Bernard kept him from the Isles. He only recently learned that it was by his mentor's choice that they did not have a closer relationship. We may not have worked out as lovers but Robin is a good friend and I think he would like to know you. Maybe this can be a second chance for you. After all we all need that once and a while. Bernard could be a cold bastard but he wanted to protect Robin and maybe he thought you would not accept him as a real son. Bernard for all his faults loves Robin like his own. Then again Robin seems to think Bernard may have had a thing for Nicki and because of that could not give him up as he was his last link to the one he loved. Not sure on that one but it would kind of make sense. Watchers have a way of falling for slayers."

"Yeah Robin's a good man. I think it be nice if you could reconnect. Family is important." Dawn said. "Everyone makes choices and sometimes they are the best we can do at the time even if they are not the right ones." She looked at Buffy as she said that.

Buffy nodded at her agreeing. Hell they had all made some bad choices.

Maura noticed her mother seemed teary eyed at that possibility. She wondered if Robin would resent her as Constance and William had raised her and he been left to a watcher? Why had they not fought more? She decided not to worry about it for now. There were more important issues at hand. "So how will we run this investigation, the press is already looking into it and it could easily become a media circus."

This brought them all out of the past and back to the present with cold calculation.

Jane winced at that all too many of their cases of late drew unwanted media attention. Sometimes they could not catch a break. She so wanted to bang her head at the thought of more media coverage.

"That's an understatement. The governor wants this handled quickly and efficiently which is why the Council is here. It will be a mess if the media discovers the truth." William explained. "Even the suspicion of this being related to witch craft will cause a feeding frenzy. The ladies in question don't deserve to have their lives ridiculed and exposed. That is not even considering what would happen if the real truth got out. I mean most just consider Wicca a religion and that would draw some attention but if the media were too find out vampires were real we would have some major problems."

"Father how can we prevent that? They were my friends but more importantly they were good people." Maura said. "They worked hard in the community."

"Aye that they were but the media will want a juicy story. They will latch onto this and twist it." Paddy said sadly. "They will latch on to the fact that the ladies practiced what many consider alternate lifestyles and religions. Sadly they will disregard all the kindness and good deeds in search for sensationalism. The fact that it will be a Rizzoli case won't help either."

"Doyle it's not Jane's fault." Frost said. "She the lead sure but Lt. Cavanaugh set that up it's the luck of the draw well that our team is the best."

"Modest much," Dawn teased. "Yeah you all do seem to get the big crazy cases."

"Yeah, they do." Frankie said. "Which brings up the point about how to keep everyone safe, I mean if they broke into Maura's place already Maura, Jane and Ma should not stay there."

Jane glared at her brother even as she had to admit he had a point she so did not want Maura or her ma home alone. She wanted them safe and protected. She also did not want Maura to worry about Hope and Caylin. "So what do we do set up a safe house? The Lieutenant would love that one. We can hardly explain the expenses."

"A safe house is a good idea however I do not believe that you should find a safe house. One of the reasons we wanted you to all meet us here. We Constance and I would like you all to move into the house until this is over. We have a secure home with the best electronic surveillance available. The attacks and the break in mean that you cannot go home anytime soon. It would be best if we are all together in order to coordinate the search for the killers. I am certain your Lieutenant will agree to this. After all you would simply be staying with family while the break in at your home is investigated. I am sure you have officers who can look into it that for you after all it might be connected to this investigation." William said. "Besides the governor will understand our desire to see Maura and Jane safe as well as the rest of our family he will I am sure convince your superiors it's a good idea to have you stay with us not to mention it will save the city the cost of paying for a hotel for you."

"Yeah, that might work." Korsak said. "I agree that Jane and Maura should stay here."

"Not just them detective you and detective Frost as well. You all matter to Jane and Maura and will become targets as will Caylin and Hope. We can secure the house and I am sure the Marshal and Paddy will help secure and add to the security. I know I would feel better if you were here to help keep them safe." Constance said.

"You want us to move in here?"

"Yes of course."Constance explained. "We need to work to solve this case but we also have to expect some issues if Caylin's vampire friend decides to seek her out. Having you all here will be safer."

"Yeah right he would know that we would come here."Jane said.

"Perhaps but vampires can only enter homes with an invitation. One he would not get here. A guest cannot invite them inside." William said. "Our wards are greater than the normal."

"What are wards?" Barry asked. "I have no idea what that is. Is it some sort of security program?"

"Wards are security against the supernatural threats out there, Willow can explain them better." Dawn said. "Basically they act like a protective line to keep the evil out."

"We would not wish to impose." Hope replied. She was not sure she could live with Maura's adopted parents even temporarily she still had a lot of bitterness even knowing that they too had been lied to by Paddy.

"We have the room while it may be a little tight with everyone here we can make do. Maura and Jane can use her old room. We have the nursery still that Tommy and Lydia can use with T.J. It like most of the rooms here has its own washroom. This house has enough room even if some have to double up."

"Well Willow and I can share."Kennedy said. "We do normally."

"Dawn and I are used to doubling up." Buffy said. She was not keen on the idea but needs must. Besides would be nowhere near as bad a Sunnydale because here there were multiple bathrooms."

"That leaves us four more bedrooms." Maura said.

"Well we could set up a place for me with T.J." I don't mind." Angela said.

"Caylin and I can share."Hope said.

Caylin gave her a dark look clearly not liking that idea at all.

Faith came to her rescue much to her shock. "Ah Dr. Martin maybe it be best if Caylin and I share. I mean so I can keep an eye on her. Her honey won't stay away and maybe having a slayer will make him think twice about trying to get in."

"Well that would leave a room each for Frankie, Korsak and Frost." Maura agreed. She knew the men would not be as comfortable sharing as the women were. It was just not something men did.

"Maura what about Doyle and his people they will need a place as well." Jane pointed out.

Frost looked at Frankie who nodded. They could stand bunking together. He glanced at Korsak who sighed and nodded. He was not keen on the idea but Jane had a point.

"We three can share. Just pull in some cots and we will be golden." Korsak said. "Sorry boys but I am so not sharing a bed with either of you."

That got chuckles all around.

"Yeah I agree, it you are so not my type." Frost teased. "Now if one of the ladies wants to share…."

That got him a smack on the back of the head by Jane. "Behave Frost."

He chuckled.

"So me and Sean will share and two of my other guards will take the last room. We will toss in a spare bunk as I have a feeling Matty will be coming this way soon. We can call for them after dessert." Paddy agreed. It would be a tight fit even with the mansion being as large as it was but they would deal with it to keep the family safe.

"What about Giles when he gets here?" Kennedy asked.

"He can bunk with us." Buffy said. "It won't be the first time."

That made everyone wonder exactly what Buffy's relationship with her watcher was.

"So we need one more bunk." Dawn said ending the speculation. "Well at least we have more bathroom here."

"There are four in the house outside the bedrooms." Maura explained.

"Well it beats Sunnydale. We had thirty people and one bathroom, that was so not fun." Kennedy said with a grimace. "We survived that and the first so this should be a piece of cake."

"That so just jinxed it." Faith said giving the dark haired slayer a hard look.

Kennedy shrugged her shoulders. I had to be easier right?

Part 20 Intelligence and bad news

"Well if we are all staying here we will need of our things." Frost said. "We should all go home after dinner and pack. How long do you think it will take?"

"I would pack for at least a week to begin with. If we need we can always get more things later." Jane said. "Only I am not sure we can go home if the place is trashed. It will be an active scene." She frowned at the idea of not being able to go home and get her things. She also suddenly recalled their pets. "What about Jo Friday and Bass are they ok?"

Korsak was the one who answered that one. "Yeah they are fine Officer Jackson took them both back to the station. It seems Jo got a piece of who ever broke in. She's fine not a scratch on her. However he had to process her to see if they could get any DNA from her teeth. Bass was out of the way but it seems he tripped someone up as they broke the glass table in the hall way. We got DNA there too."

Everyone winced at that it had to hurt. Jo might be a little dog but her teeth were razor sharp. Bass as a fighter made Jane grin. It seemed their pets had looked out for the place after all.

"Well we need to get them." Maura said. "Bass will be scared."

Jane just grinned not imagining that the Turtle would ever be scared he had armor after all. "I knew Bass loved us. Jo well she a Rizzoli so no way she was letting anyone cause mischief."

Frankie rolled his eyes at that. He still thought the women needed a bigger guard dog. He resolved to see about that soon. He looked over at Korsak who nodded Jane and Maura or maybe Angela would soon be getting a guard dog. Maybe a big Rottweiler or German Sheppard Korsak knew a guy in the K-9 Unit who owed him a favor or three he call it in for the women he considered family Ok maybe two no three dogs dogs because really the Isles would need it too.

"Frost Frankie we should go after dinner." He said "We will need our stuff."

Frankie broke in. "It can wait until tomorrow Korsak I grabbed your emergency bags from work mine too. I kind of figured we would all be heading to a safe house."

"Did you grab mine and Maura's?" Jane asked.

"Ah no but I did grab mom's dry cleaning and I have an extra set here Tommy can use. I ah also have some clean sweats that Lydia could wear. They are not fancy but they are clean. I figured thought that Maura would likely have your bags in your car. I could not find them."

Jane frowned as she recalled taking their bags home to put new clothing in them all she had was her workout clothing and it was dirty. Great just great this was so not going to be fun.

"Jane I still have several outfits here. While they are not exactly in style they will do for now. We can always go shopping for everyone if we need too." Maura said. It was clear that idea was making her smile.

Jane rolled her eyes and everyone chuckled guessing shopping was so not on her list of things to do.

"We have packed for two weeks so we have some things you could use. I mean I'm close to your size and Willow stuff should fit Lydia so she won't be stuck in boys clothing. We don't mind sharing do we honey." Kennedy said hoping that she was showing she had changed and grown up.

Willow nodded "Sure no problem because Kenny always over packs."

Kennedy blushed at that one. "Yeah well you never know do you and demons goo tends to ruin stuff."

Buffy grinned at that. "Kennedy so has that one right. Hell we all pack heavy."

Dawn raised her brow at that. She knew for a fact that Buffy had changed in the past few years but she got why her sister was saying it.

"Well Jane can share my wardrobe it won't be the first time and shopping well it not so bad." Maura said.

Jane rolled her eyes and knew she was going to end up with half a dozen more designer suits. 'Oh well it was for once not totally frivolous shopping and she knew Maura loved to spoil her. She hated her beloved desire to spoil her but it was her way of showing love so she would deal with it.'

"So what can you tell us about this vampire who seems to be obsessed with Caylin?" Jane asked eager to change the subject from shopping.

"He is an old one. I know he is at least two hundred years old maybe older. Many claim he was here at the founding of Boston from one of the old families. We think its Cabot but there is no way to prove it. He is from the distaff side as there is no official records of him being born or dying."

"Huh?" Frankie asked. "What do you mean?"

"He was a bastard Frankie." Frost said. "A lot of the old timers had children from both their wives and mistresses or even their slaves. Back then some of them made no real distinction between their children others ignored them. If this guy/vampire is, was a member of the Brahman even from the wrong side of the blanket he will know Boston really well hell even if he isn't he's been around long enough to know the city better than any of us."

"So why did your Pa Make a deal with him?" Frankie asked. "I mean if he kills people that hurt business right?"

"Actually Frankie that's why my family made a deal with Luc he did not often kill his prey nor did he allow other vampires to do so. He had a strict policy of catch and release. Ok maybe some people got almost drained but they did not allow aggressive feeding or kills. He polices his own rather viciously and he keeps his word. It's almost like he thinks of Boston as his own private kingdom. That idea did not sit well with Da but he accepted the fact that with Luc around other vampires would be forced to obey his rules. Luc said he learned from his sire that killing prey was bad."

"Who was his sire?" Faith asked. She took her cup and sipped the iced tea listening intently.

"Now I don't know if it is true mind you but he claims Dracula as his sire."

The members of the Council all groaned at that. It never was simple or easy was it.

Faith said it best when she said. "Well that just sucks."

Buffy nodded and sadly had to agree Dracula well she still owed the bastard a dusting. At least Xander wasn't here. She knew Giles would so not be happy with this news.

Part 21 The Primal speaks

Paddy leaned back and wanted to smile. He had two of his three children here and they were safe. Hell he might not be overly fond of Rizzoli and her brother but he knew damned well they were fine police officers. They were the kind that one wanted in the law. He knew they like Sean were good people. Well Matty was too but he was his boy so he got a pass at being a cop. It was rather ironic really that two of his four children were on the right side of the law while two had not been. Not that it had really been Faith's fault that she got into trouble. The reports he had received said that t he first being that fell to Faith stake had been evil and well human or not he was slayable. The deputy Mayor had accepted the Mayors plans to ascend and Faith had perhaps help set that back some. However she had fallen to the dark side for a while. Paddy really did not mind because he had never been a white hat. At times it would be pushing it to say he was even grey. Yes he was Druid King but even that did not excuse all of his actions. He had taken vicious revenge for Collin and he had ended several threats to Maura that even she had Jane did not know about. Hell he had even killed Hope's ex because he had sold her out. Not that he would ever tell her that of course. She and perhaps Caylin did not need to know that he had only ever married Hope for money and the chance to get at Paddy. He had known and because the bastard had been so close to Hope he had been forced to make several costly concessions to a rival family. No he would never tell her that her ex and used her. She had been hurt enough. Arranging for him to die in an accident well it was the least he could do for them both. Caylin might be a bit of a ditz but she deserved to believe her father loved her. Paddy knew if he ever had a chance to make it right he would have to accept Hope's youngest. It went against the grain but, he still loved her and he was a man who denied himself nothing. He would have her again and if that meant he had to have another daughter he would deal with it. Besides he had taken her father from her and his code was demanding he would need to replace what he had taken. He hated the idea but, he lived by the code and so he would make it up to her. Maybe it could be his penance for failing his own children?

Hope watched Paddy as she ate her dinner. She hated that she was still drawn to him. He was a bastard and had stolen both her children yet…yet he looked so damned good. Even at his age and having been almost killed by Jane he radiated power. He was a striking man. She swallowed hard and looked away. How can I complain about Caylin falling for a master vampire when I still want Paddy? Damn it why are we all drawn to bad boys?

Faith watched the interaction with amusement. She had to admit her old man had some guts. His look at that Hope lady showed she was on the menu. Faith recognized the look. Want take have own. Hell now she knew she came by that feeling honestly. Somehow she really did not mind much. She was still pissed at Paddy Doyle but she got he had tried to do right. She more than perhaps her other siblings was willing to cut the old man some slack. I mean how many times had she back in the day tried to do right only to have it blow up because Murphy loved them? Yeah Doyle was a mobster but he clearly loved his family and Faith at least was willing to give the old man a chance. Besides she had a feeling they would need him. She was so not throwing stones cause she so l had lived in the glass house. Damn I am sounded educated now so not good been hanging around the nerds to much of late.

Faith smirk made Buffy want to laugh. It was clear that she at least was taking the finding of a long lost father in stride. A part of Buffy was jealous. She pushed it back. Faith deserved some good in her life. Hell they all did. Besides having Doyle as a father was so not going to be all white picket fences, of course not it be a challenge. However having a caring and loving parent might just help her sister slayer finally heal from her past. I had mom so I so cannot be jealous she had this guy. Besides it's not like he can buy her a pony and stuff.

William Isles knew that the next few days or weeks would be a challenge. He had forgotten the chaos of the Council or maybe the old one never had this vitality? In any case life was now going to be a real risk again. Oddly enough that did not bother him. He rose as dinner was finished. "I think I am going to retire it's been a long day. Goodnight we should all get some rest we can't do more tonight. Sleep well everyone."

Constance rose and followed him out as did the others. He was right they all needed their rest. Each group retired to their room. As the door to the master suite closed William caught Constance and pulled her to him and kissed her with passion and love. She was shocked but did not resist. She had missed this. He had been so careful of her since the accident but …now….now she was better and she had a desire to find out if being a slayer changed things. She pulled back and smiled up at him. "So,watcher care to spar with me? I mean it's been way to long beloved."

He laughed and swept her up into his arms and carried her to bed. "Constance I need you. I missed you."

She grinned and kissed him and decided that the change was worth it if she could be with her beloved again. Both soon were lost in each other not remembering or worrying about slayer hearing.

Jane and Maura followed her parents out and headed to Maura's old room. Jane suddenly wanted to be alone. She felt a desire flood her. Maura caught her hand and dragged her into the room. The door slammed shut and Maura pushed her against it hard. She was on her in an instant kissing her beloved. Passion rising. Jane gave no thought to it and went with it fire burning. Maybe being this slayer would not be so bad.

The gang watched the others leave. Faith chuckled at her elder sister almost pulling her wife to the bedroom. "Well B looks like they handled the hungries now they are on to the h—" Dawn covered he mouth with her hand quickly.

"Really Faith that TMI, besides its so not something we need to discuss in company."

Faith pulled away and laughed. She glanced over at Sean and winked. The Marshal turned beet red and rose. No way was he taking Paddy's girl up on that at least not until he could get his head around the idea that she was his. Plus if he treated her causal like he knew his uncle or not Paddy have his balls on a stick.

"AH I'll ah check the perimeter. You all go get some rest."

Faith laughed loudly and headed to her room. Oh well maybe next time big guy she thought. Don't think you are getting away that easy.

Buffy and the others all rose. Kennedy pulled Willow in for a kiss and winked at the queen of the slayer. "Well night all its past our bedtime I mean it be midnight back home." She dragged Willow toward their room.

Buffy sighed at that and said. "Yeah time to sleep. Dawn you coming?" She glanced at Frankie who seemed to stumble as he rose clearly following Sean. He too was so not ready to deal with what his gut was telling him.

"Sadly no," Dawn quipped. "However I could sleep."

Buffy rolled her eyes and noted Paddy was laughing at them all. Or he was until his eyes locked with Hope's. The doctor stumbled back and quickly excused herself nearly running to her and Caylin's room. I am so not going there with Paddy that's in the past. Even as she knew her love and desire for the mobster was as alive as ever. Damn the bond. It had never left either of them and it was flaring.

Caylin unsure of her-self followed clearly confused. Though to Buffy's experienced eye she too was feeling the primal side, that god the vamp was not here or they would so have a problem. However she was still scared and that had to be a good thing. She decided to warn Sean to keep a look out. Because Buffy suddenly had a really uneasy feeling; what if this Vamp really was Caylin's mate it would so complicate things. Dracula's line was different enough that it could cause issues. She so had to think about this. Maybe it be a good thing she be alone tonight not that the slayer inside was in anyway happy about it. However, sometimes the slayer had to wait; besides she wanted more than a quick roll with the young cop. He was more than a quick playmate. She had a feeling he could be the one if she took it slow and easy. The slayer inside growled. Yep, he might well be the one if the primal feelings she was getting were right on. Damn why can it never be simple.

Part 22 Reconnecting.

Jane was surprised at Maura's suddenly being so aggressive. She however found the idea of it arousing. She loved her wife dearly and hardly could complain about her showing her desire. The sudden fire was clearly something different. However Jane lost that train of thought as her wife pinned her. Whatever caused this Jane was going to enjoy it. She let Maura be the aggressor and decided it was so going to be worth it.

The slayer stirred inside Maura. She had felt so many things in the past few hours but underlying it all was the deep abiding need and desire for her wife. The need to protect and claim was nearly overwhelming. She was a bit shocked that Jane was allowing this but decided it did not matter. Her kiss was deep and filled with longing and lust. Under normal circumstances she let Jane take the lead but ever since earlier when she had seen Hope and Caylin in danger she was feeling decidedly aggressive. It was as if she was suddenly filled with far more primitive urges. Well this was one urge and desire she did not fear. It was powerful but not dark or evil merely a heighted need. Jane let her pull her to their bed and she wasted no time at all stripping her beloved. Under normal circumstances she would show far more care for hers and Jane's clothing but not now. Now there was simply the need to be closer to her wife. Jane giggled at this but it was cut off as she was pushed back into the bed. The look Maura gave her was clearly not one of amusement. It was pure fire.

Jane giggled not because of her beloveds actions but because she was suddenly shy and nervous. It was not like Maura to be so aggressive. She caught Maura up and returned the passionate kiss giggles now gone. A part of Jane was worried but the slayer in her welcomed her beloved's need. It rose to the challenge and gave Maura her passion.

The Isles had long been in love. Constance loved William deeply and they had always had a very active is somewhat restrictive love life. Unlike many in upper society they really did care and love each other. If they were apart the reunions had always been filled with love and laughter. The pattern of their lives had been set long before Maura came into it and upon reflection probably was at least part of the reason for their distance. That along with the fear that Maura would be called had led them to isolating the daughter they both loved deeply. However that was a discussion for another day. Now they were both far more interested in each other. They knew that for the moment or night Maura would hardly need them. She was likely to be very busy with her wife.

That thought made Constance giggle like a school girl which had William growling. He stalked her but the slayer inside was no one's prey. She jumped back giggling and then before he could come closer jumped across the room tackling him and they both fell back. Thankfully onto the King size bed. William could only grab onto his wife. "So you want to play do you?"

She laughed and said. "Hell yes it's been months William, I have so missed this." She kissed him deeply and his hands went to her head weaving his fingers through her hair.

"I have to. I was…so afraid…afraid I lost you." He relived the message she had been injured in that instant. Constance however was not about to let him panic or remember that they had almost lost each other.

She kissed him reminding him that even if being a slayer would bring danger to her and him it had also given them her back the ability share this joy with him again. Unlike her husband she was almost grateful that she had been called. It gave her back her energy and allowed her to be pain free for the first time in months. Plus if she was totally honest she was grateful that she and not some young child called. While it could end her life at least some young potential would have a little more time to be a child. Maybe they could be blissfully unaware of what could happen. Besides she had her husband and daughter back and they were a real family for once it was so worth it.

Sean and Frankie walked around the house checking the defenses. Frost and Korsak were doing the same on the inside.

"So you've known Doyle a long time?"

"Yes, since I was a kid. He and my Da are lifelong friends for all of Uncle Paddy being a bit of a mobster. I never really knew about that stuff until I was in high school. Then I only learned about it when I was thinking about joining up. It was part of the background check they did when I was going into some of the classified training. It was a bit of a shock but even so Paddy's got a code. It's hard for those not in the life to get but its solid. He doesn't hurt innocents."

Frankie gave him a hard look. "He cost our Lieutenant his family."

Sean gave Frankie a hard look. "Did he was it made to look like that?"

Frankie stopped and said. "What do you mean?"

"Uncle Paddy's Da was an evil bastard. He would think nothing of killing and entire orphanage if it got him his way. He considered normal humans below him and as cannon fodder. Many of the things Paddy is accused of doing early on were all on him."

"Look Marshal I get he's family and you want to believe he's a stand up guy but we had proof. It was all in his trial."

Sean laughed and said. "Yeah someone saw it right. Saw Paddy Doyle set that fire. Sean reached into his pocket and pulled out a photo. It made Frankie blink. It was impossible.

"Yeah they could have been twins. Paddy's the dead ringer for the old man. At a distance you could easily mistake them for being one in the same and the old man he went to ground making everyone think he was dead. Hell even Paddy thought so….until he put a bullet into the bastard's head for killing your that policeman's family. It was the one and only time my Da broke the law. Well not exactly but he was the one who told Uncle Paddy where his old man was. I was there when he did so. Paddy had just returned from that apartment building he was all bandaged up. Hope had put the bandages on and he come over to talk to my father about the fire. My Da took a swing at Paddy thinking he was the one responsible. But, then Paddy stopped him. He looked at Paddy and said.

"You didn't do it. You aren't wearing the right cloths? What the hell is going on? How come you changed?"

"So Paddy was there?" Frankie said.

"Yeah he tried to get to the apartment with the officer's family but the fire was already engulfing the building. If he took the blame it was likely because he felt guilty for his old man's sins and for not being able to save Cavanaugh family. I will tell you that Da told him where he saw his old man go."

"So he killed his old man? How does that make him a good guy? He should have turned him over to the police."

Sean laughed at that. "They would never have been able to hold him. He was a very powerful man who used magic as easily as he did breathing. He ruled with an iron fist. He would have killed Hope and Maura just because he wanted to. Killing the Cavanaugh's did not bother him at all other then he lost the building which he owned. Then he even laughed and said it was insured. He did not care. Paddy caught him off guard and shot him in the face. It was messy. Not that my Da or Paddy know I saw it. I followed them you see. I was just a kid and they both would have been angry to know me and Matty followed them."

Frankie nodded not sure what to say. "So then Hope's testimony was not right? Doyle must be pissed at her?"

"No, I don't think so. He loves her and Maura deeply. He would never hold that against either of them because really it was a logical conclusion and he hoped that testifying against him would mean his enemies would no longer seek to use either of them against him. He can be coldly logical and like I said he felt bad for not anticipating that move by his old man. We all thought he was dead."

Frankie nodded not sure what to think. Instead he changed the subject. "So what do you think about these new comers. They aren't exactly lawmen er women. I am not sure they should be involved in this investigation."

That made Sean laugh deeply he could not believe anyone would say something so amusing, "That's funny as they could easily say the same for us. As for being officers of the law well they are. They are the law for the supernatural. I also know that if anyone checks all the women will have diplomatic immunity and carry badges for Interpol."

That last bit of news had Frankie stumbling. "What? How? Why?"

"They work all around the world and the women who are here are the best of the best. Buffy Summers is the longest serving slayer with Faith Lehane only being slightly behind her and Kennedy well she's a Sunnydale Slayer as well. The red head is the most powerful witch in the country maybe the world. Dawn Summers she may be young but she grew up with the others and I would bet she in her own way is every bit as well trained. No they are here to keep this from becoming a bigger mess. If someone is hunting slayers and witches it is going to take the best to stop them. If we fail well we might as well resign ourselves to hell on earth and I mean that literally."

Frankie fell silent having nothing to say to that. He moved to the right to check out the gates. They were of course locked tight. Sean sighed and knew it would take time for the BPD team to get that this was not normal homicides he just hoped they had a steep learning curve or it could get messy quickly.
