This chapter of Littlest Pet Shop:Strange Happenings is for nyc2dragon. Sorry about the long wait. I hope it was worth it!
Nothing in this story is owned by Master Dragonfire. None of it.
"What have you done with Happy?"
"Oh, don't worry, you won't be seeing him anymore."
"What have you done?!" A wizard, his clothes blazing, flew directly at the grey-robed wizard, who stood smirking.
"It's no use. Once you go through, you can't be brought back."
"Well if I can't pull him back from this side, then I'll push him back from the other side!" The wizard's fire grew brighter as he flew towards the dark portal that floated in mid air above the monolith.
"No! We need you here! Don't you dare go after Hap-" The armor-clad wizard was cut short as the shard of fire shot through the portal, and the portal closed.
It was a sunny day in Downtown City, and Blythe and the pets were enjoying themselves at the park. "You know Sunil, I brought the Frisbee so we could play catch, not run and scream."
"Oh, I know Blythe, but the Frisbee just looks so…" Sunil had to stop in the middle of his sentence so he could dive behind a tree as the plastic disc flew past him. "...scary."
"C'mon Sunil, you find everything scary." Pepper pointed out. Zoe perked her head up.
"Is it just me, or did someone just scream?" A few questioning glances were exchanged, before Russell pointed out the fact that Zoe had better hearing than the rest of them. "It came from this direction. Let's go check it out." Zoe ran down the path, heading towards the scream.
It only took a minute or two before Blythe heard a scream. "That sounds like it's pretty close. Here, we'll take a shortcut." Blythe and the pets cut through a gap in the hedge that surrounded a shady rest area, and saw a woman, around thirty, run towards the edge of the park. "Well, that answers one question. What that doesn't tell us, though, is what caused the scream…" Blythe slowly inched toward the entrance that the lady used when she passed through the hedge. What she say didn't surprise her at all, considering she cared for a dog with purple hair. There, sitting on the edge of the path was a small, blue cat. Blythe carefully approached the animal, and quietly cleared her throat. "My name's Blythe. Who're you?"
The cat looked up, rather perplexed. "I'm Happy, why do you ask?" When Blythe got a good look at his face, she gasped. He had been sitting there crying for while, judging by his red eyes.
"I heard a few screams and came to see if anything was wrong. Obviously something is wrong. Can you tell me what it is?"
"Everybody keeps running and screaming when I try to ask them if they know where I am."
"Why would they run off? It makes no sense." Blythe shook her head. "Anyways, you're in the Downtown City Park. Is there anything that I can help you with?"
Happy's stomach growled "Some lunch would be nice…"
"Well then, you're in luck. You can come back to Littlest Pet Shop and I'll get you some food. Sound good?"
"You had me at food."
Blythe laughed. "Alright then Happy. Follow me!" A few minutes later, the pets, Blythe, and Happy walked up to the doors of Littlest Pet Shop. "Alright Happy. This is Littlest Pet Shop. Try not to do anything that'll freak out Mrs. Twombly."
"Don't freak out Mrs. Twombly. Got it."
"Okay, now that that's over...welcome to Littlest Pet Shop, Happy." Blythe opened the doors, and Happy bound into the pet shop, looking all over the place. A tall lady stood at the front counter, and smiled as Blythe walked through the front door.
"Hello there, you must be Mrs. Twombly. I'm Happy. Nice to meet you." Mrs. Twombly gasped, before asking if she was dreaming.
"You're not dreaming Mrs. T... Why would you even ask that?"
"Because that cat just spoke to me!"
"Wait, you understand him too?" Mrs Twombly nodded.
"How about me?" Russell asked. "Mrs Twombly! Can you hear me?!"
"Oh my. What's got Russell so worked up all of a sudden?"
"Well, I guess that answers my question."
Just then, a customer walked through the front door. "Welcome to Littlest Pet Shop! How can we help you?" Happy asked as he jumped to stand on his hind feet. The man didn't get a chance to answer his question. He ran out the door faster than Blythe had seen someone run in a long time.
"Well then. Happy, you're going to have to be careful who you talk around. Around here, cats don't usually talk."
"Really? Where I come from, we all talk. Why don't cats talk in your world?"
"Great. Now he thinks he's from another world. Happy, there are no other worlds. This is the only one. You're just a mutant of some sort, I'm sure there's a logical explanation that doesn't involve other worlds." Russell bagan pacing, talking to himself. Blythe followed him and the other pets into the daycamp.
"So, now that we can talk a little more freely, what do you mean you're from another world, Happy?"
"I'm from Fiore. It's a small country in Earthland, and I got thrown here by some evil portal. I'm sure someone will come and save me, but it may be a while."
"Well, you're welcome to stay here as long as you need to." Blythe commented. "I've kinda always wanted a pet, maybe you can stay with me upstairs." Blythe nodded siletly to herself. Yeah. It would be nice to finally have a pet for herself, even if only temporarily. "I'll go ask Mr T. and my dad. Brb."
"Brb? What's that mean?"
"It's short for 'be right back!'. Don't worry, you'll get used to Blythe and her teenage acronyms."
"Oh. Okay then. What is there to do around here?"
"Eat, sleep, play. Whatever you want."
"Where's the request board?"
"The what?"
"The place where people post jobs they want done! Don't you have a request board here?"
"The only thing I can think of that's even remotely like that is the bulletin board that Mrs T. keeps in her doorknob room. It's her list of knobs to nab."
"Well then, I want to go knob nabbing!"
"Well, we're not supposed to lea-" Happy sped out the petdoor, and into Mrs T's doorknob room. "No! Wait! We're not allowed in there!" Russell shook his head and chased after the crazy cat, knowing that things would not end well.
"Alright Russell, you know how stuff works around here. Which of these knobs would be the easiest for us to go and get?"
"Well, I would say probably the cherished knob, that grey-green one. I know that the building next door has one. But taking it would be stealing, and stealing is wrong."
"If that's what we need to do to get that knob, and the reward for it, then that's what we're going to do. Let's go!" Happy shot off to the front of the store, shooting out the door just as Blythe was coming in. Russell followed suit, hating every second of it. He was sneaking out of the pet shop. He was going to be in some serious trouble if he didn't get Happy and get back quickly.
"Happy! There's no reward for getting that knob for Mrs. Twombly. She can buy one at the hardware store for a couple of bucks. She just doesn't have one yet..."
Happy stopped dead in his tracks. "What do mean there's no reward?" Happy asked, worriedly.
"There's no reward for going out and getting the knob for Mrs T. She usually gets them herself to make sure they are what they're advertised as. It's not like she has trouble getting doorknobs."
"So there's no reward for going out and doing jobs for other people in this world?"
Russell shook his head. "I'm afraid not. In this world we pets don't work...well, not all of us. We're provided for by our owners. Although I doubt you'll want to consider Blythe your owner...more like your caretaker."
"So, you don't have to take jobs to pay for your own room and board?"
"Nope. We're provided them in return for being cute r loving companions, or for being good at things and winning our owners a bunch of awards. I'm sure Blythe will be glad to provide for you, considering you as a friend more than a pet."
"Well, that's great. I guess while I wait to be rescued, it wouldn't hurt to take a bit of a break from adventuring..."
"Good. Now let's get back to LPS before it's noticed that we're missing and we get in trouble."
"Alright." Two new friends walked down the street, under the evening sun, completely unaware of the adventure that was about to begin.
Phew. Now that that's over, it's time for a bit of an update. Everything is currently still being worked on, unless stated otherwise. IT may take a while for a few of the updates due to Master Dragonfire focusing on catching up on some requests for this story first, but they have not been put on hold or anything.
"Aye! Everything's getting done!"
"I'm sorry, who are you? I'm supposed to run Master Dragonfire's author's note!"
"I'm Happy! From the story! I thought I could come and help you, since you work so hard and get so little recognition!"
"Gee...that's really nice. Welcome to the team, Happy!"
Help! My A/N is being taken over by cats!
