A/N: Fair warning not betaed yet and I tend to mix and match season of various shows. This is AU so please bear with me. I am using character many recognize as it is far simpler then to invent a lot of OCC. So please keep that in mind. I will try to stay true to their characters but some I do not know as well as others so please be patient or accept its an AU.

Part 35 The allies organize

Jane began to set up the information they had on the board. It was decidedly low tech but the system worked so why mess with it. "We have a serial killer on the loose in Boston and we have to make certain he or she is caught sooner rather than later people."

"I heard that this killer may be active elsewhere?" Korsak said knowing several people wanted to ask that question but given the recent events may be holding back. Not that he blamed his fellow cops because the scene he had seen was a bit intimidating even to an old war horse like him.
"We have some information that might be the case. However until we have absolute confirmation we should use what we know. Dr. Isles is making a profile for us and we will be adding relevant information as it comes in." Jane said calmly. It was however clear that she really wanted to catch these killers.

"This killer butchered four young women brutally and we will find them. I want everyone to put the word out to their informants that this has become a priority." Jane explained.

Just then the delivery boy came in. Jane spotted him and wanted to growl it was never good when Jimmy showed up. He was a good kid but somehow he always delivered bad news.

"Ah sorry to bother you detective Dr. Isles but I have several messages for you. The boss said I should bring them over to you. We ah checked them out and they won't go boom…well you know."

Korsak snorted at that. There was a certain irony running here. The messaging service was run by an ex-con who had altered his life and now hired many others in an attempt to make them walk the straight and narrow. His nephew was one of the rare exceptions and he was generally and honestly fond of the boy which begged the question on why the poor kid always got tagged to deliver messages that were suspect. Then again the team appreciated that at least one former criminal was trying to walk the right path and was working hard to help others do the same.
"Yeah how's that kid." Detective Martinez asked. It was all hands on deck for this including other departments as the drugs used to kill the women were unknown and a worry.

"Well we got a few new machines and my uncle he got some special dogs you know. I mean we don't want to be handling anything bad or illegal. We are legit detective. All packages go through a metal detector and our customers know it then we have Sadie sniff up. You know Sadie right detective Korsak. She's the retired police dog we adopted. While she cannot chase the bad guys her nose still works fine. Remember detective Uncle called your unit on those idiots last month."

Martinez nodded at that. He had wondered how they known about the drugs they had almost been tricked into delivering. Then again he assumed they turned for some reason or the perp had not paid them enough to deliver. However maybe just maybe that was not the case.

"Ok so hand it over." Jane said deciding they had long ago trusted this service. While they did tend to be the go to people for criminals to use to communicate the service had always been honest with them and helped them. It was hardly their fault the crazies like to use them to send messages. Besides Jimmy was a good kid and his uncle really was a stand up citizen despite his past. Jimmy pulled three packages out of his bag.

"This one you might want to be careful of detective it's from the O'Donnell. Their guy said to tell you that this is all they could find at short notice. It seems they are not happy with the killings. The ladies well they were good people and even the gangs are mad. Ah we had a meeting yesterday and the big mob boss all said there a truce until the killers found. So maybe it is safe to read this."

Jane took the envelope as Frankie whistled. It seemed some major feathers had been ruffled. Doyle was right the various gangs were taking this personally.

Jane pulled on some gloves and ripped open the envelope. She was careful almost expecting a bad surprise. What she found shocked her. It was a hand written note signed by several of the Irish Mob leaders explaining about the truce and that until further notice they would help the BPD in any way they could to catch the killers. Jane handed the note to Maura who looked just as shocked as she read it then handed it to Sean.

"What the hell? Who were these women?" He demanded.

"Good people Lt." Frankie said. "Good honest women who had a lot of respect in their areas so much so that we may get some unexpected help. Of course since several were related to different members of the mob we probably should try to catch the killer first as I don't think their families will be forgiving."

"Understatement much Frankie; I mean this is almost impossible to believe they all signed it and if I don't miss my guess… Their finger prints are all over it." Frost said.

"How do you know?" Frankie asked.

"Because they say so what the hell is going on?" Frost looked at his partners and his Lt. in shock. 'The mob families never worked together and the Irish and Italians hated each other on principle not to mention the other groups. For them all to be willing to work together especially the Irish mob this had to be important to them. It was almost scary because if they ever realized working together would make things easier….then when this was over crime would become a real issue.'

"Look it does not matter." Sean said "We have a case so listen to Jane and Dr. Isles along with our expert help now Jane what about that other message?"

Jane ripped it open and handed it to Maura. Maura read it and her face darkened. She handed it over to Hope who scowled as she read it. Hope in turn handed it to Faith as she too seemed to care about Caylin.

Faith sighed and said. "Hey Hermes we got a message for the guy that sent this. Tell him we will meet and if he keeps his word we can parlay under a white flag. Not sure I trust Harmony but she has played it straight with us in the past so she gets one shot at this intro thing."She handed the note to Buffy. She had kind of taken the decision out of the Queens hands but this was about her family. Her blood family and she was going to protect her little sis and even her big one. Buffy would get that even if she might be a bit annoyed at her jumping the gun.

"Yeah Faith we can deal with this. Harmony may not be perfect but she was a friend I guess… and I say we can probably trust her in this at least because it is in her best interests and that is one thing I trust her to act on honestly. Tell them we will be there for drinks at eight tonight as requested hopefully they will have some info too." Buffy said knowing that a vampire like this master would have his finger on everything happening in Boston.

Sean Cavanaugh looked concerned at this development. "What is going on?"

"Family business Lieutenant it has to do with my sister boyfriend sadly he has some less than stellar connections." Maura said. "He is highly connected to various groups in the city as well as to our new associates family connections."

"Hey he so is not family." Dawn said "At least not one we like to claim. Not like Laim and William."

Maura sighed and wondered briefly why she ever wanted a family besides the Isles? "It hardly matters we have more important things to deal with right now." She pulled out her buzzing phone and read the text."Susie has confirmation from several other jurisdictions. Abby from NCIS has sent a preliminary report they have at least three confirmed cases and maybe as many as twelve."

The Sunnydale group all paled and looked sick.

Giles pulled his glasses out and began to polish them. Buffy face darkened and the look sent shivers down everyone's back well everyone who was not a slayer or who knew her well.

"Any other confirmations Maura, I mean how many are we dealing with and over how many years?"

"To many given the messages Susie is getting. We were right this is a serial killer but…this is strange….it seems several….I don't understand this." Jane pulled her own phone out and pulled up the information Maura was reading.

"Huh? How is that possible? These attacks happened across the country and in different jurisdictions at the same time. Even if the killer jumped on a plane this should not be possible."

"Unless there was more than one killer doing this, I mean Jane what if it was some sort of group thing." Frankie asked showing that he could think on the fly.

Buffy looked at him impressed but the idea sickened her she caught Faith's eye and the dark slayer was scowling. That meant there were several wet work teams out and about as well as individual killers from the look of the data. Travers and company deserved to burn in hell for this and she was just sorry the bringers denied her the pleasure of sending him there herself. The look Buffy was giving her told her she was not alone in that feeling.

Kennedy wrapped her arms around Willow who was shaking in anger. It would not due for her to lose it here at the BPD.

"I thought that the agents were here to help with this case? How could they not know about all the killings?" Officer Lenka asked. "I mean what good are they if they are as in the dark as we are?"

Kennedy stiffened and rounded on the officer. "Look we knew about some of the killings. We don't have all the answers if we did then the killer be locked up. We just got called in too. Until now we did not know that there was any kind of connection. We only knew of a few other killings in similar manners until Sr. Criminologist Chang made the connection which I say is damned fine work on such short notice. We may be investigators and trouble shooters but we don't pretend to have all the answers officer."

The BPD officer backed down but still looked a bit defiant. Only the glare but the boss made them back down.

"Fighting won't solve the case." Maura said. "Jane maybe we should let the officers hit the streets and maybe find something we can use."
Jane nodded and said. "All right Maura is right everyone get out there and shake your informants hard. We need intell on this guy and or group."

The officers all shuffled out clearly not happy with their assignments but it was an order and they all would follow it. Some pitied Rizzoli as it seemed once more she and her wife caught the short stick. Those two seemed like some sort of serial killer magnet.

Officer Lenka walked out clearly not liking the situation and wondering how come Boston seemed to get all the crazy people of late. It was no comfort at all that this killer had hit other places. It was also highly disturbing that the so called outside experts had no clue what was going on. Pulling on his cap he walked out determined to protect his city and if he found the killers first…well they could always resist arrest. He was an honest cop but sometimes there had to be a more immediate justice.

Jimmy slipped out not wanting to get in the middle of the cops posturing. He moved quickly but did not run. He jumped on his bike and took off. Once he was about a mile from the station he stopped and pulled out his phone as he slid into an alley to be out of the way. He dialed in and let his Uncle know what was going on then headed to see the one man in Boston everyone worried about. Well he had good news so maybe it be ok. At least his uncle knew where he would be.

"Ok Jimmy take the message but be careful. I hear the Count is in town as well."

Jimmy sighed today was so not his day. I wanted to go to college again why? He thought as he peddled to deliver the message from Rizzoli and company.

Ducky carefully pinned the pictures on the board. He was sickened by what he was seeing and could not would not believe how blind he had been to the evil of the old council of watchers. He watched as Gibbs and the team all took their places.

"I am afraid we have several cases come up. Sadly they connect to on ongoing investigation in Boston."

"Ducky what does Boston have to do with us?" Tony asked. "I mean I feel bad they caught a rough case but I don't see how it connects with an NCIS one?"

"It connects to not one case Tony but many perhaps as many as twelve with the most resent being this one. It is marked as unsolved and was investigated by Agent Yates and her team before she was reassigned to the terror investigation that killed her. It may explain why it slipped through the cracks."

Tony frowned at that it was unlike Cassie not to pass a case on if she was working on it and got called away. He looked over at Gibbs who seemed deep in thought. His boss sipped his coffee and said. "What do we know Ducky?"

"That the killings in question were organized and ordered." Ducky said shocking the entire team into silence. He looked tired and old and a bit guilty which worried everyone but they waited to hear more.

In New York the CSI crew listened to the reports as Mack Taylor read off the list. It seemed they had a serial killer who was loose and creating havoc across the nation and they had hit in Boston which was entirely to close for comfort.

"Ok People we got to pull it together. It seems this killer has been active all over the country and the alert activated several cold cases. We have been asked to reopen them and look into them for anything that might help Boston. On that note the D.A. Alex Cabot has been temporarily assigned to help us with any warrants we need. We may even get some help from her contacts with the FBI and maybe governor has asked we assist Boston as a personal favor."

There was a low whistle from Danny Messer "Mac is this going Federal?"

Mack Taylor looked out across the room and said sadly "No Danny its going international."

The room fell dead silent.

Alex Cabot looked sick. The files she was reading were a nightmare. She picked up her coffee and leaned back. While she was primarily the ADA for SUV sometimes there was a need for an ADA to take a temporary assignment and she had drawn the short straw. Of course she knew she had pissed Adam off recently but she never thought he would be so vindictive. This case was a nightmare in the making. However she could hardly fault his points as she was one of the most experienced ADA's in the office and she did have connections to Boston which in theory should make it easier. Yeah right a distant relative who was semi reclusive and a pain in her ass. If she was absolutely not certain her father adored her mother she would swear said relative was her half brother. Of course he could be her father's as well if the rumors about her departed and not so dear grandfather were to be believed. She sighed and picked up the phone. It was time to see if Lucas could and would help. He was for better or worse a Cabot and they always served their cities.

Olivia Benson was not happy. The news that Alex had been pulled as their ADA went over like a wet blanket. She and Elliot almost stormed into Donald Caragen's office.

He looked up at them resigned. He knew this was coming and somehow felt it was for the best. While Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson were some of the best he had he knew both needed a bit of a break. Not that this case was likely to be anywhere less stressful or nightmare inducing but at least it would let them see evil was everywhere. It might also get them in touch with others who shared their painful work. He never underestimated the theory of pain shared was pain halved.

"Sit you two and close the door please this cannot get out just yet. We have a very serious case and that is why Alex has been reassigned. While the transfer was ordered by the governor I have to say I agree with his reasons. It is also why you two are temporarily being assigned to work with Alex. You will be her investigators and if need be body guards."

"Captain what do you mean?" Stabler asked. "Why are we being transferred? Body guards why would she need them this isn't about that drug case is it? I thought the Cartel was dismantled. " Not that he minded the duty as Alex was like a sister to him. Plus he knew he owed her a few. There was also the fact that Alex was Olivia best friend and losing her to witness protection and her apparent death had devastated his partner not something he wanted to see again.

"No Elliot I so wish it were." Don Caragen said looking a bit pale as he then explained "There is a case in Boston four young women attacked and killed in a very brutal way. The problem is we have found this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens if not hundreds of cases across the country. We have a serial killer or killers hunting and killing young women from the age of about 11 to 21 in ritualistic and brutal ways. Boston has gotten some international help as this case seems to span the globe."

"Hundreds… oh lord." Elliot said suddenly looking as ill as Don felt. He noted Olivia merely seemed resigned. "So when do we start?"

There was a knock at the door. The two detectives turned and frowned as they spotted their FBI contact and profiler Dr. George Haung.

"Come in doctor I was just explaining things to the detectives. During this case the Doctor will be assigned to help you."

"Well that should help a lot. Are we staying here or heading to Boston?" Olivia asked.

"For the moment you will be helping here in NY but that could change at any moment. So I would like you both to pack a bag. The FBI has left a jet on standby if needed." Dr. Haung said bringing home just how serious this threat was to the country.

Mattie tossed his bag down and headed to the shower. It had been a long hard flight to Boston and he was tired. However sleep would have to wait. He walked to his shower and climbed it. It would help him revive and clean him up. Ten minutes later he was out and getting dressed. He picked up his phone and Texted Paddy. "I'm home. We need to meet." He then tossed the untraceable phone back into its hiding space. Sometimes his life was way to cloak and dagger.
