Boston Is Burning

Part 42 Pointless

It was going well. So far they had no one to challenge them. The power they had received from the sacrifice made it possible for them to move around so much easier. No one would be looking for them in their newly rejuvenated forms. Power flooded his body and for the first time in years he felt like he could do anything. Avenging his sister was now clearly possible and he would do so with extreme prejudice. Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane were going to pay and pay dearly. He was going to paint Boston red with the blood of their allies and he would ensure no one would ever dare stand against the council again. He fully planned on being the one in the headship. While he deeply appreciated the aide Travers gave him he was done with his family being in the shadows of another. They had paid to dear a price over the years to merely be used as minions and cannon fodder any longer. It was time they got some of the rewards for their dedication and hard work. Besides Travers had fouled up and many watchers had died because of his arrogance and stupidity in underestimating the foes Summers faced. He had ignored the seer's warnings and the advice to tela-conference and spread out their assets. As much as he hated and loathed Rupert Giles the man was wiser in many ways. The newly developed council had backup locations and a communication center that rivaled a super power. Hell it was so secure that it had taken him six months just to discover it was up and running forget even breaking into it. No had Travers spend some of the councils funds on more than art and expensive wines then perhaps more watchers would be alive. While he understood some would always be used as front line troops and some would die for the cause it was foolish to be wasteful with their lives. It created resentment and in the long run it was not cost effective as it took time and resources to train watchers. No Travers world view on organization was archaic and he would have to go when this was over. However for now he would play along and use the former head for his own ends. He followed him into the building and smiled. Well at least it is not the flea trap I was staying in. Though I suppose I will still keep that one. No point in not having a fall back point.

Ddddddddddd

Dracula watched his son pace. It was rather amusing to see. He looked over at Harmony who was skimming over his boys books. It was clear to him that Harmony was not as ignorant as she pretended to be or perhaps she was simply growing. After all it did happen. She pulled out a book and took it over to a couch and sat down. Opening it up she began to read letting the men have time to talk if they wanted to. He grinned in amusement. She was a treasure to him.

"Sit my son. Pacing will not bring them here faster and it will not do for you to be overly agitated. They will pick up on it and think something is wrong. We don't want an incident."

"Father I am worried. I admit having a truce in place and I admit it's troublesome to hide bodies but they stole my mate. They took Caylin from me and would keep her away. I want to rip them apart for that. I have to turn her father she almost died because of kidney failure. I will not lose her. I can give her immortality and see no point in her remaining human. She would gain so much from being my mate yet I fear they will keep me from saving her. If that happens…..I don't know what I would do. I cannot lose her."

Dracula rose and went over to his son. He caught him to stop his pacing. "No harm will come to your Caylin. I promise we will ensure her health and safety. However if you lose it the slayers will see you as a threat and try to slay you. That would cause your beloved to be stressed and we do not want that do we?"

Lucas stopped and nodded. He felt like a raw teen instead of the master vampire he was. It had been decades since he had this little control and desire to cause havoc. "Yes I know you are right but…I am …..afraid."

"This will work out. I have news to trade with the slayers and this may help them see us as allies in this at least. Damon texted me and so have several other masters of our lines they are looking into any unsanctioned killings. Killings we may have attributed to human serial killers. While I do believe that part is true I now think it was far more organized then we believed and that the old human council of shadow men may have been ordering it. If so then we must help the slayer as this is wrong. While vampires are not good and light we to need the slayers to keep the world turning. Even the most evil of us would agree on that fact unless they are mad and seek to send us to hell on earth or hell itself. Hell on earth or our dropping into a hell dimension would not be good for vampires. So we will help the slayers and perhaps buy some good will for our more neutral brothers and sisters."

"I agree and I will try. Damn it where are they?"

Cccccccccccccccccc

Caylin hated waiting she wanted to run to her …what was Lucas? She just felt an overwhelming desire to be with him. They had all been about ready to leave when a ragged man and child came into the station and headed straight for Rizzoli and her sister. Looks like we are going to be delayed, damn it I want to get to Lucas.

Jane and Maura listened to Rondo. The CI was reliable and Jane considered him an ally on the streets and maybe even a friend now. However it was clear that in this case his loyalty was clearly with the street urchin. Not that Jane or Maura minded because Rondo was good people. He did his part to keep the community safe and to help the BPD when he could. He was an honest man who simply was a street person. Perhaps at first he had fallen on hard times but…it was clear his lifestyle was now as much about choice as circumstances and while Maura had often offer to help move him off the streets the man was not having it. He had a place there and a life and he would not give it up. Clearly children like Emma were a part of the reason. Jane watched the girl as she observed everything. She was clearly not intimidated by being her but her unease was clear.
"Rondo we will do what we can to help but we need Emma to come in. I don't think we can protect her on the streets."

Emma backed up and dropped into a fighting pose. She was so not having this. She was not going back to foster care it was hell and as dangerous as the streets were at least she had a chance there.

Buffy looked over at the girl and tapped Faith on the arm. The Dark Slayer looked on and sighed.

"Looks like you are up Faith."

"Yeah, that's why I'm here right. I think I can maybe get through to the kid. I get where she is coming from." Faith said. Slayer hearing had let both women hear what the girl said and Faith was impressed. The girl was young and clearly adaptable. There was also something else and she cursed silently. "B she's…"
"Yeah I see it and damn she is young. I wonder ….I never thought that that could happen. Giles said they had to be in puberty."

"Or in a life or death situation, Xander he found some as young as ten. Amara and Ayo they were only eleven." Faith said. "You know Xander snatched them up and brought them home to England. Hell I really think that is the only reason he came home."

Buffy nodded as she thought of the twins slayers and Xander's claiming them as his wards. It was the one thing that made her consider forgiving him for all his action as he clearly loved those children. Twin slayers had shocked them but given the situation they had been found in Buffy was not surprised the war torn region was hell on earth and being called had saved those beautiful little girls so perhaps the same had happened to Emma. Of course the idea of an innocent being in such danger that the slayer would be called so early angered her deeply. Then again perhaps she had heard Buffy's call and answered and that disturbed her even more. "Well if we have to we can perhaps help out with keeping her safe."

Maura was listening and she had already made a decision and gave Jane a hard look. Her wife sighed and with years of practice knew full well what her wife was thinking. Hell even if they had only still been best friends she have gone along with that look. Maura Isles was on a mission and heaven help any who got in the way. "Rondo we won't let anyone hurt Emma. She can stay with us. Maura and me and you can too if it makes her feel safer. We have the room. Maura she's a registered foster mother and so am I. Not that we want that to get out but….we were thinking of adopting and it was a logical first step for us to take. We did it when Tommy was almost killed just on case you know."

"Yeah I get it Vanilla. Emma it's your call but I would go for it. The doc has contacts and they can make it work. Plus it's a great place and Angela's cooking is fantastic and she lives next door."
Emma was scared but she trusted Rondo and she was afraid right now being on the streets with those crazy's running around worried her. She just did not know if letting the authorities into her life was a good idea.

Faith walked over and said. "Look kid I get you are scared and that you can take care of yourself but we need your help and you need us."

Emma glared and Faith smiled damn that kid reminded her of herself. "I'm Faith and I have been where you are and I won't force you to come in but maybe you could use some friends and we are good ones to have."

"Yeah why is that lady."

"Because I was you not to long ago and I get it. These ladies are family and they are good people. I want you to have a better chance than I did and if you help us I can help you. You know with the issues you have been having."

Emma glared not wanting to admit she had been dodging dark creatures a lot of late. She ran her hands through her hair and looked over to see Paddy Doyle Watching them and waiting to take action. Having him owe her one would keep her safer and the cops would owe her too. She wanted to help and she wanted to know what was happening to her. Her gut was screaming that Rizzoli, Isles and the others were like her.

"Ok but only if you don't make me promise to stay and Rondo he's with me."

Faith looked at Maura and her sister nodded. Looking at Jane who tossed her hands up in the air knowing arguing would be futile not that she did not want to keep the kid safe but it seemed her family was expanding. 'Well at least Ma will be happy with another kid to spoil. It might just keep her from nagging us a while about grandchildren.' "Fair enough but there will be rules to keep you and the family safe got it."

"Yeah, ok so I'm in and I'll write out that statement and sign it. Just no foster homes well other than your place I don't want to be institutionalized again." Emma demanded.

"That is acceptable. Excuse me while I call my lawyer to handle this." Maura said stepping away. "I sure I can have the papers placing you in our care by this evening."

"See my sis is cool." Faith said. "If she can't get you I will." Faith said firmly.

"Oh hell no," Kennedy said."One of you running around is bad enough."

Willow giggled at that. Though she did think Faith make a great mother one day.

Buffy watched the interplay with amusement deciding that she too would offer to take Emma if needed. However she had a feeling Maura have no issues as her family was Brahmans and few would challenge that in Boston. Looking at Faith she had a feeling the Dark Slayer agreed and was a bit envious of that fact as it was more than clear she was impressed with this baby slayer.

"Ok we have to roll everyone we have a meeting to get to." Buffy said pulling everyone back on tract. "If we don't go now I think Caylin may ditch us all."

Caylin glared at the Queen of the Slayers but did not deny her urge to run. 'Hell this was pointless crap. She needed to get to Lucas it was a burning fire in her soul. She wanted to help the girl but the best way to do that was to end the killings and Lucas would help with that. Her gut was screaming he was the ally they needed.'
