Boston is burning

Part 58

"There was no way these killings can be random." Abbey said. "There is just no way because Gibbs they are all too precise."

"Perhaps but we will have to be diplomatic we are in the way to another groups house." Gibbs explained.

His team looked at him not quite believing what he was saying.

"Ah boss since when?" McGee said he looked confused normally Gibbs diplomacy was a big stick.

"This case has a lot of implications for more than just our victims. Ducky has given me some information that makes this case far more deep then almost anything we have dealt with before it may in fact have worldwide impact." Gibbs explained. "Because of that we will all be using extreme care. While the director has ordered us to cooperate we will do so but we will also use extreme care. These people are dangerous and we will have to be on our toes. I will not be careless and lose someone. These killers have been killing for a long time and they have shown they will kill those in law enforcement. So we will be alert we will have each other's backs. I don't want Ducky or Abbey alone with any of these so called experts. Tony, McGee or Ziva and I will be with them at all times. While I want to believe the BPD is secure we all know that the station has been infiltrated several times so be alert."

"Gibbs these people are highly respected in both law enforcement and forensics." Abbey said. "We cannot disregard them."

"I do not know Abbey. My information packet from Director Vance suggests the teams we will be meeting may be compromised. Doctor Isles while she is the Chief Medical Examiner has been linked to Patrick Doyle a rather powerful member of the local Irish Mafia. This connection has the director concerned. The Isles family is very powerful and connected in this area and they have been reaching out to the Mayor and governor who in turn reached out to the President and then down to the Secretary and Director. We have been warned to use care with Doctor Isles and several of his contacts who have been contacted to help with this situation. Then there the records of the people we will be working with and a presidential pardon mixed in. This makes concerned. I won't risk our team for this or any other case."

"Of course Gibbs." Ziva said. Her phone buzzed and she looked at it. There was a text message and she frowned. "Gibbs that was Eli there was another killing there. A 15 year old girl. The only thing different is that it was a Jew this time. "She texted Eli David back thanking him for the information. Ziva looked up "I do not know if I should be happy that it was one of my people or not. It will not inflame the Arabs but my own people will call this a revenge killing."

Boston is burning

Part 59 Arrival

The cars all arrived at the precinct and the drivers let them out. It was clear that they would not be heading to their accommodations until they checked in with the team leading this investigation. They got out and headed inside.

"Looks like we are straight to work. So Don what's going on with Larry?"

"No clue Robin he just said he had a place to stay with a friend. I never questioned it. I mean he knows people all over the world right." Don Eppes said clearly not happy with this turn of events. He thought he knew his brother's friend and mentor fairly well yet he was caught off guard by this turn of events. "I just hope it does not cause us any problems. Megan does not look to happy."

"Yeah well Don if an old girlfriend ever came up to you like that I'd not be happy." Robin said warningly.

Don grinned clearly pleased she was possessive. "Yeah well same I mean if a guy looked at you like Larry did Heather then I'd not be pleased."

Fornell watched this and sighed 'This is going to be a bloody soap opera.' He looked over at Gibbs who smirked. His friend was clearly amused at Fornell being annoyed. Well Jethro hated to play well with others so maybe his finding amusement in this would help keep a lid on things.'

"So let's in already." Gibbs said. His personality not being one to sit around. The others all looked at him a little shocked at him daring to order them around.

The members of the BAU followed Gibbs and Fornell in not so much because of the order but because Agent Gibbs had a point their minds automatically profiling the agent they would be working with. In this case knowing the individuals and team dynamics was as important as knowing the un-sub they would be tracking. They had already noted the closeness of Fornell to Gibbs and his team. There was clearly a history and clear friendship there what that would mean for the dynamic of the FBI as a working group would be interesting. They all knew Fornell and he was a good agent and a bulldog when chasing a case so his being so close to another agency was a slightly shocking. Megan followed the members of the BAU some of whom she knew fairly well. She had trained with Rossi back when she was learning profiling and trusted him and his team. While she might not know them all very well in person their reputations and skill levels were well known. She trusted them because of that. She had only met Agent Fornell once but he had not struck her as a man who took fools lightly so she was reasonably sure he could be trusted and perhaps by extension the NCIS team. She had been in Washington back when he had been "Killed" in the line of duty and knew that he was alive because of the NCIS team and agent Gibbs in particular. In fact if she was to profile the relationship it would be of brother though brothers that tended to clash at times. She sighed and wished for a cup of strong coffee. This was going to be a trying case. She looked over at the two groups of CIS from two separate cities. She had caught the look between the two team leaders and their hard stares at "Lady Heather" clearly they were connected on some level. Her gut told her it was a case of some sort. Megan knew no real answers would be coming from Larry. He was clearly close to the woman but he was also being closed mouth. There was friendship there and something more. However it was more than the woman having been his doctor. However she trusted her lover and strangely enough knew he was telling her the truth about not having been the woman's lover. He was however close to her and trusted her for some reason. On the surface her having been his therapist might account for his trust but it was far more than that. They were genuinely friends. She could also tell that "Lady Heather" had been clearly pleased to see Larry and that her welcome was genuine and warm. It was a puzzle and one that might well play in to the situation so she would watch it.

Charlie watched the situation with some concern. His mind racing. He looked at Amita and Larry and both sighed knowing his mind was racing. Charlie might not be a traditional profiler but he was clearly doing just that using Math to figure out the various group dynamics. Amita moved to his side and was clearly counting on him to be a buffer of sorts. He felt a deep pride at that. She was trusting him to protect her. Charlie knew he was not the protector his brother was but this felt good it did his ego a great deal of good and a boost. He probably should not feel happy about that but it made him feel like a man who mattered. Oh he knew he had skills that were often vital to helping solve the cases his brother dealt with but he also knew he was not a man of action in the same way. He was more of a support role. Charlie did not mind but it still felt wonderful to know his soon to be wife looked to him for protection.

The group headed inside with the Grisham hanging to the back with Sara and Catherine. Neither was very happy at this point. Catherine at least seemed slightly amused that Horatio had escorted "Lady Heather" inside."Grisham this is going to be complicated."

"I don't trust her." Sara said bluntly. "What is Sam Braun doing here?"

Catherine Willows bristled. She might have some issues ok who was she kidding she had major issues with her father but he had sprung for the flight and he was clearly worried so she cut him some slack. Yes she had questions about his and Lady Heather being here but Sara had no right to imply Sam was not trust worthy; at least not in this case because clearly he was worried about some sort of danger. She glared at her co-worker not for the first time not happy with her. Catherine glared at Sara who did not seem to notice she was pissing her off.

"I mean his coming with us makes no sense. Not to mention he is acting like a puppy around Heather."

Grisham saw Catherine glare. She looked pissed for her father which he had to agree was fair. Sara was pushing it and stepping over the line with her remarks. "Sara Sam Braun paid for our flight and is helping us out. He has information we need. Lady Heather said we will need them and I have no reason to disbelieve her. She had always been honest in any cases we deal with her area of expertise in."

This got him a dark look. "She is a killer Gil and a pervert. You are not thinking with your head here nor is Sam."

Catherine did glare this time. "My father is not involved with Lady Heather. He does not see her that way."

Sara glared back. "All men see her that way."

This time it was Grisham that glared. "It is not your business if he does. If you can't be objective to work this case I will put you on a flight back to Las Vegas. Are we clear Sara? Too much rides on this case. We have missing children to find and dead ones to find justice for."

Sara blushed having forgotten that they had a kidnapping before they had left and that all signs showed the victim was being brought to Boston. Gil's dark look was a warning so she backed off. No way was she leaving him to the mercies of Lady Heather. She shut up and followed them in.

Sam Braun heard the squabble and smiled. While he and Catherine had a long way to go in their relationship her clear anger and offence at her co-workers words gave him hope. That and the fact that he was genuinely trying to help solve this case. That latest kidnapping pissed him off and he just prayed they would be able to save the girl.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

The Count was not happy. So much had happened and it was clear that this was an all out attack on the Slayer Line. Many might find it strange that a vampire especially one who headed his own line would be unhappy with the idea of the end of the slayers. However he was a practical sort. In the past there had only been one at a time and it had not been difficult to avoid them. However they provided a vital service to the world. They kept it spinning. Many might not understand but he liked the world. Oh there was a time he had relished the bloodshed and the joy of the killing fields. He would be lying if he said he did not. However he had done so to protect his people. He had chosen to become a vampire to guard his people and their allies from an enemy that had shed far more blood then even he had in the ensuing years. The Ottaman Turks had killed millions and for no reason other than they could and for the joy of causing pain. He at least had killed to defend his people and to eat. Ok he liked blood but all beings had to eat to survive and unless it was an enemy he killed quickly and cleanly even back then. Now however he did not as he gotten older he could control his blood lust. It had taken time to understand he did not need to kill to live. Humans could not say that about their prey. Then again it would be crueler to just take a leg of a cow or sheep then the whole beast. He shook his head pulling himself from such strange thoughts. "We must stop these random killings or all of the Alliances Lucas has formed and that the Council has formed will fall."

"He's right." Giles said hating to agree with any vampire but if the whole demon world went against the slayers life could become messy quickly. Even with more slayers there was a delicate balance. Whoever was doing these killings was upsetting that and it was pissing him off. "I have our researchers going back over the records we are trying to find out who may have survived if we can find that then maybe we can determine a motive."

Dracula shook his head. He did not care who was doing this but perhaps a motive might help. "When night falls I will go out and see about working the demon bars."

"I will join you."Paddy said. Both men got hard looks from the others none wanting to place them at risk.

It was to this standoff that the various groups came into. Faith, Frankie and the others returned coming through the back as the front of the station had been full of the cars delivering the task force.

Boston is burning

Part 60 Observations and analysis

Lady Heather watched the situation with some amusement. It was not often such a group would be assembled. She new several members of various groups and was amazed at the connections. The old joke about six degrees of separation came to mind. Of course it was not really all that hard to believe given the supernatural aspect; nor the law enforcement one. However it was a powerhouse of people in various fields. In forensics alone some of the top people in the American government were here. Horatio Cane from Miami, his team of Calleigh Duquesne "Callie" and Eric Delko and even his doctor Alexx Wood if she recalled. All tops in their fields and Horatio was like a bulldog when he was on the scent of a killer. She almost pitied the evil doers well almost. Then there were her own people from Las Vegas Dr. Gil Grissom, Sara Sidle, Catherine Willows and Warrick Brown. Of course of that team she trusted only Gil, Catherine and Warrick. She detested Sara and frankly wished Gil had left the woman behind. However She knew that Gil had some fatal type attraction the CSI. He was a bit masochistic in some ways. She just hoped the woman's rude manners would not cause issues. However Heather would admit she was skilled at her job. Perhaps if she stayed in the lab she might not cause too many issues. However if she did well then perhaps Paddy would deal with her. He was a good brother and he had little tolerance for rude behavior. Heather shivered. Paddy Bless him was not quite as violent or quick to temper as their father but…it might still end up being a one way trip for Sara and frankly she could not find it in herself to mind.

Heather then considered the others Warrick was a bit of a hot head but he was caring and protective. She thought Catherine could do far worse and he was often able to catch subtle clues something they would need. Catherine was more of a big picture type she and Gil worked together flawlessly. Heather would be jealous if not for the fact that both saw the other as the sibling they never had. Then there was Sam Braun he was a good man. He may have made mistakes in the family department but he loved all his children and had a sense of justice few could equal. Not to mention he was a loyal friend and retainer. She knew she could trust him to watch her back and the teams.

Heather reflected on the other team who had come and would be likely staying in her Boston home. The FBI from Los Angeles. Now there was an unexpected hand. She smiled as she recalled Lawrence's panicked phone call asking for sanctuary in Boston. A safe secure place to call home while they investigated these murders. There was never any doubt in her mind that it would be granted. He was one of the few true friends she had ever had. In fact had he not needed her she was rather certain that she would have chosen to follow her daughter and granddaughter to the next life. She owed him. Anything she could do for him she would do. His call for help saved her from choosing death over life. Lawrence had come to her when his mind had shattered and his psyche was in turmoil. His friends and family saw him as eccentric and loveable never realizing he was unraveling before their eyes. However despite that they had stood by him and for that she would grant them much. She would protect them individually and as a group, shelter them and help them solve this case. Even if it had not been one that interested or affected her and her family she would have stepped up for her friends sake alone. Their kindness was rare in humans and it would be rewarded. Lawrence had saved her by needing her and she found she needed him. Perhaps as he said back when they were young…they could have been more but now it was true love. The love one had for a beloved sibling or cousin. She helped heal his wounded and questioning soul and he helped her want to live. It was enough. When he had returned from Space he had said he had seen the face of God. Heather was not sure what that meant but it had deeply troubled Lawrence and made him uncomfortable in his skin and life and made him question everything. Somehow Heather was certain he had indeed faced a high power of good. Such a thing made one's life on earth seem futile and the need for possessions useless and it sent one off the deep end. How did she know this? Well the Slayer Buffy Summers was proof as was the vampire called Spike and even Angel. Angel to a lesser degree because his soul never sat easy in his body. Spike because he chose to be a good man and chose to pull his soul from peace. Buffy Summers because she lost heaven the only true reward Slayers got. Lawrence had touched heaven and it left him reeling his need to touch reality through her help saved her. She would always help him for that.

Heather watched the team/ family that had come with him. Charlie Eppes his protégé a young man destined to lead the world because of his remarkable insights the son Larry wanted but did not yet have a youth who showed him he could perhaps one day be a father. Charles' mate and wife Amita who stood by him and inspired his work supporting and aiding in equal measures. Already they had helped revolutionize the FBI work. Donald Eppes the elder brother of Charles who often felt his brother outshined him but was still wise enough to seek his help. Yet he supported him and encouraged him to greatness. Robin Brookes the woman who tried to tie him down and Liz Warner a woman who still loved him. She had a feeling that if the man was smart he would grab them both and hold on tight as neither alone would ever keep him out of trouble. Both women were exceptional in their fields.

Then there was the other FBI team the BAU which she knew was bound to be a problem. They would seek to profile the entire grouping and she had a feeling it would blow their minds. Aaron Hothcner was a man with a deep moral center that was going to be rocked when he saw the truth. David Rossi one of the founding members and a man who probably at least suspected the truth. He was also a friend of sorts and perhaps an ally time would tell. Derek Morgan a warrior through and through who under different circumstances might well have proven to be a good match for one of the slayers either the queen or her second but given what she had learned he never get the chance now. Though it be amusing to see the sparks with all the male posturing she was sure would go on. Dr. Spencer Reid was likely to get a slight reality check and support given the various groups and the collective I.Q.s soon to be gathered. Then again the young genius probably needed it. Perhaps he would no longer feel so alone or isolated. Not that his team did not care about him or support him but sometimes like needed like. Penelope Garcia would be a valuable asset given Willow Rosenberg was down for a bit. Something she'd have to look into. It was not good that someone had taken down the "Red Witch" at all. She also wondered about the other FBI agent Pornell, he was an outliner. He did not fit in with either team and seemed more aligned to the NCIS people not that he would ever want to admit that fact. He seemed close to Agent Gibbs and his team. Abbey the forensic specialist, McGee the computer guru were clearly being protected by not only Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs but Dr. Donald Mallard and Anthony DiNozzo. Now there was an interesting young man. Under different circumstances she might be enticed to play with him for a while he might make a decent pet. However she did not miss the glare from Agent David. Ziva she was clearly her father's daughter for all she denied it. Possessive of her own and protective. Heather approved. She smiled and sipped the coffee the young police man had ran to fetch her at her look. She smirked. Yes Ziva was indeed a David. Perhaps they could become aligned. After all Eli would one day retire and Israel could do worse then have his daughter as their guardian. She would just need to be convinced to take the task up and head home with her chosen mate. Anthony would help her provide balance and a deep moral core. The young man might not believe it of himself but he was a good and just man who had matured and learned and grown under the guidance of his "Boss" and team. Yes Anthony DiNozzo would be a good match for Ziva and together they would protect her family's legacy known or not.

Talia struggles not believing she had been caught escaping. I was almost free damn it to hell. I am here in Boston and caught again. Damn it, I have to get to Ziva and warn her.

"I would not struggle those bonds are quite tight. Even a slayer could not break them. Do not worry I will not kill you just yet. One such as you will be saved for calling a powerful demon and we have decided to wait until we have your sister as well. I am sure such a sacrifice would grant me and my friend here immortality." Post said laughing.

Talia glared at him. "You betray your calling watcher."

"Ah perhaps but they kicked me out so I have no loyalty to them. The SWWW is an abomination as well. Women should be subject to men and slayers under watchers." He leered and Talia spit at him.

"I will kill you." She said.

Post laughed and leaned down injecting her with a substance her eyes fell closed. "Not happening my young potential no you will die and we will be strong and another more worthy will rise to be the slayer one we will control. Some one young and easily molded perhaps this Emma from Boston. She is 10 and likely will be glad to be rescued from the streets." He slapped Talia and walked out. While he was tempted by her beauty he was no fool besides an unsullied sacrifice was worth far more.
