Young Jared Arc was playing with a rubber ball in his back yard.
"Heya squirt," Autumn Arc Rose came in and gave a quick ruffling to her younger brother's hair. "Watcha doing?"
"Playing with mah ball."
An older chuckle came out from behind the sister. "You say that now kiddo, but when you grow up, you shouldn't say that at all."
"Grunkle Qrow?" The red eyed boy looked at the surprisingly buff old man with eyes of wonder.
"Hey, mini sport, how's my favorite little deviant?"
"I'm not small, I'm five." He raised the ball over his head.
"Pfft. OK, five year old." The man scoffed with a pleasant laugh.
"Is Grandpa Taiyang coming?" The boy tilted his head.
"Yep, he's just having a word with your mother."
"And Daddy?"
The old hunter said nothing and darted his eyes around before looking at the ball he was carrying.
"Hey kid, wanna play a game of catch?"
The kid brightened up immediately and pointed. "Oh wow so that's what they call diversion!"
[Back in the Present]
Jaune prepared his armor as he walked the battle torn lands of Beacon. It broke his heart to see his home, his school, his friends gone. They were all lost in the great battle and he had lost people so dear to him.
But now was not the time to grieve, now was the time for action.
He stood valiantly in front of the once glorious castle and shouted down to its current master. "Come out you cold blooded murderer! I'm here for your head!"
The doors burst opened, like flood gates barely able to contain the raging waters as a man strode powerfully out.
Tap!
Tap!
Tap!
The blue eyed boy readied himself as both the footsteps and his heart became louder. This man was the cause of the death of so many innocents, so why was he still hesitating in some deep depths of his heart?
"So I, Resh Kolc, take it that you've taken my invitation, old friend…"
"I'm here to end your meaningless bloodshed once and for all you sick bastard!" Jaune cried out as he prepared to face his old best friend…
[Earlier that day…]
"…"
"What's the matter Jaune? Goat got your tongue?" Yang poorly made a bad pun which caused everyone in the table to groan around her.
"Yang that was bad and you should feel ashamed." Blake spoke out to her partner while she looked at her note book.
"What's wrong Fearless Leader? I thought you would like Tanngnost." Nora spoke of the new name of her and Team JNPR's Mascot.
Jaune had a near death experience when one of the gates that herded over a hundred goats accidentally opened when Jaune was right in front of it. If not for Resh actually using his semblance to freeze time and pick Jaune out of the ground after the first few goats ran him over, he might have been off much worse. However, the damage was already done and by then Jaune was terrified of the furry creatures.
So when he came back to Beacon, he expected it to be a safe haven with friends and teachers to protect him from the dangers of the outside world—only to find one of those monsters had already infiltrated his dorm.
He wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible, but Nora could pull of the puppy eyed look which appealed to Jaune's kind side and friendship side more than his selfishness. What was worse was he found out Ozpin allowed them to keep the creature as long as they fed and took care of it.
Now just this morning, Jaune came back from jogging to find the horrid creature chewing on his pants. He knew someone was out to get him, but what on Remnant did he do to have so much misfortune to fall on him!?
If there was one little mercy it was that Resh volunteered to walk the creature-it's so not a dog- while they went ahead, so he had some peace with the horrible creature and the Ram gone.
"I mean you two are so much alike! Tanng likes to sometimes barf on other people's shoes and you also did that!" Nora continued on to the blonde boy.
"I had motion sickness for that!" Jaune defended himself.
"You still owe me for that." Yang leered at her fellow blonde.
"Anyway!" Ruby spoke out before putting a giant binder on top of the table. "Hear me my friends, family, and Weiss."
"What?!"
Ruby went on. "With the New Semester in tow, it's time we kicked things off with a Bang! And Yang, you've already made one bad miserable pun, don't make this one."
"Phooey."
"Hey wait a second, is that my binder?!" Weiss screamed as she looked at the familiar looking object.
"Nnnooooo?" Ruby drawled on as Nora started to play with her food from boredom.
Thing seemed to be going at the same pace as usual until someone had 'accidentally' hit Yang in the face with a piece of pie.
That's when things started to go down.
Resh was making his way towards the cafeteria before he noticed towards the distance, a large amount of students throwing food everywhere and either running for cover or throwing food across the outskirts of the cafeteria and into the other school grounds.
"… Man, I am missing out on all the fun stuff lately."
As Resh ducked and weaved over the cries of people throwing food everywhere, he used his semblance to pass through the heavy chaos and enter back into the cafeteria.
If outside was bad, inside was just plain brutal. There were students all around the ground groaning and playing dead with food stuck all over them. On one side, where a large fort of tables and make shift fences made from kitchen appliances were stacked, there was a very familiar girl with orange hair laughing at the top of her lungs while holding a make shift flag (consisting of a wooden stick with a ripped cloth as the fabric) with a crudely drawn face with a smile on it.
"Hahaha! Foolish rebels! You can never hope to topple I, Queen Nora of The Castle! Surrender on to me, all your pancakes!" Nora cried from the top of her castle while beside her Team JNPR stood side by side while other students below the team cheered wildly and held up condiments and food like weapons.
"Your reign of terror ends this day Queen Nora!" On the other side of the cafeteria, Ruby proclaimed as she lead Team RWBY and other students behind her against the tyrannical carrot top. "Justice shall be swift! Justice will be painful! Justice will prevail!" Ruby screamed dramatically before crushing a perfectly good milk carton.
It looked as if both sides were hungry—take that Yang—to see their enemies drowned in edible goodness.
However, before anyone could attack, both sides were pelted with tomatoes. The lead teams from both sides protected and avoided most of the damage, but some of their small foot soldiers got cut off and fell from the red onslaught.
"Hahaha!"
Resh looked up in surprise to see a tomato coming his way as well, but since he was farther away, he avoided the red fruit.
Up on one of the beams, Team CRDL was posing dramatically and seemingly joining in on the fun, but they were all wearing robes for some reason.
"WE ARE… THE CARDINAL INQUISITION!" Sky shouted from above, looking down on the mortals below.
"I didn't expect those guys." Resh looked to his right and recognized the boy who said that to be Sun Wukong. He and someone he recognized to definitely be a younger version of his Uncle Neptune, were hiding behind some tables.
"NOBODY SUSPECTS THE CARDINAL INQUISITION!" Dove yelled out from above as if he heard that.
More students in robes stepped out of the high ground and started throwing down on both teams.
Resh ducked in with Neptune and Sun.
"Hey Sun."
"Hey Resh!" Sun spoke out as food hailed down on them outside. "This is Neptune, my friend."
"Yo." The blue haired boy swerved to avoid a flung chocolate pudding. "Is this place always like this?"
Resh stopped for a second and scouted out the chaos around as people flung food like a bloody war.
The black haired boy sat back down. "Honestly, this does happen every once in a while, but not as often as you think."
"I like it here already." Sun smiled as his tail picked up a slightly squashed banana.
"Kind of too crazy for me." Neptune looked around cautiously.
Resh shrugged. "Fair enough. Welp then it's time for me to make things even crazier." He smiled evilly.
"Wait, what?" Neptune looked back confused.
"Something tells me you're doing something interesting. So what are you going to do?" Sun asked excitedly.
"Something stupidly fun. Do you guys feel like being meat shields?"
"Meatshields?" Neptune asked incredulously.
"I was going to say minions, but I didn't want to lie." The wanderer shrugged.
"That does not make me feel better." Neptune noted.
"Sure why not?" The blue haired boy now stared hard at his partner. Sun turned back to his best friend. "What? It's gotta be fun."
"I might be able to keep you clean throughout this madness." In one instant, a tray appeared right over Neptune and blocked a jar of pickles from exploding on top of him and Resh caught it with his hand.
"Oh crap yeah! You're the Time Stopper?" Neptune realized before looking to Sun.
"What's the point of all this power if you don't use it?" Resh darkly smiled before taking a ripped table cloth and tying it like a cape. "Before we begin, I must first make one critical blow at the one person here who poses a threat to me."
Team RWBY was unleashing heck despite fighting a war on two fronts.
"Weiss, take out some of those Inquisitors! We can't advance on Nora with their air support!" Ruby commanded.
"Right!" The girl raised her hand and widened her glyph to cover from the bombardment from above.
However, her icy blue eyes widened with shock. "Ruby, it's—" was all she could get in before being pelted with a melon that blindsided her out of nowhere.
"Weiss is down! We should press the attack on the inquisitors if they notice Ruby's Force field down!" Jaune shouted to Nora as he ducked and slapped a Inquisitor from Cardin's side with stale bread and knocked him to the fort ground.
"Excellent, master tactician! Queen Nora gives the order to…" Nora paused as she felt something wet on her uniform. She looked down slowly and noticed ketchup all across her torso.
Jaune, Ren, and Pyrrha were surprised, where did that tomato come from!?
Nora lost all ability to stand and fell down, only to be quickly be caught by Ren.
"D-Don't let them…. take my pancakes…" Nora weakly spoke out. "Bleh!" she threw out her tongue and fell into Ren's arms.
"How did that hit her!? I didn't even see that tomato come from anywhere! Did Blake sneak by during all the confusion?" Pyrrha shouted as she and Jaune tried to cover Ren.
"Wait. It came from nowhere?" Jaune repeated before his blue eyes widened with horror. "No, it can't be!"
"Lord Cardin no!" The remaining members of Team JPR looked up to see Cardin taking another fatal tomato to the chest, making the man fall to his knees as he lost all strength to carry on.
"But… but… we had… the high ground…" Cardin gasped as he fell into the beam.
Yang gasped and pointed. "Oh my gosh they killed Cardin! But I guess that means whoever did that just did a Cardinal sin? Eh? Eh?!"
Everyone stared at disappointment at Yang and then a pie hit her in the face as if responding to that horrible pun.
"No it has to be!" Jaune cried out passionately as he accidentally crushed the stale loaf bread he was using a sword.
"Jaune!" Pyrrha cried out as she used a metal tray to block another edible meal from hitting her crush. "What's going on? Someone's taking out the leaders one by one!"
"MWAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!" A booming, dark laughter filled the air of the cafeteria, halting all three sides from their epic struggle.
[Sound Effect: Menacing!]
A large table stacked up like a tower appeared in the middle of the battle field, which was weird since many people were sure that wasn't there just a second ago. However, what got everyone's attention was the man standing in a very intimidating (but slightly awkward) pose with his hand covering his face.
"You thought you would win this war of foods, how useless useless useless! For it shall be I, Resh Kolc, and my two Foreign Kings that shall rule this land with an iron fist! None shall dare oppose my wrath!"
"Resh, you traitor! Why did you take out Nora?!" Jaune yelled. "We're supposed to be a team!"
"Foolish Jaune, this was my plan all along! For far too long I've been bidding my time—" Resh vanished as a melon was thrown at where his head would have been.
Ren stood up. "That was for Nora." He spoke out before he got pelted by a sudden cake to the face.
"No Ren!" Jaune cried out before everyone slowly started getting pelted by food that clearly weren't there originally.
"Jaune we need to get out of here!" Pyrrha pulled the blonde boy away from the battlefield as it soon became clear that anyone attempting to attack him would end up pelted with stick meals. It was no longer an free for all, but a one-sided massacre.
"Useless Useless Useless! You foolish teams and you're subpar powers! Like a child comparing the size of a skyscraper to a bug, you all will know the difference of power between you, and I, Resh Kolc!" By now Resh was taking on the character of a very old and famous villain known for his internet memes and strange metaphor comparisons.
His cape fluttering madly in the wind as he, Sun, and Neptune trounced all opposition with little effort.
"I will show you how huge that gap really is like a man first experiencing and seeing the Great Chasm!" (Grand Canyon parallel in this RWBY World)
Jaune and Pyrrha were hiding in a corner, their spirits and their moral broken by someone they once trusted and fought with.
"Dang it! I should have seen this coming! Now Nora and Ren are gone and it's all my fault!" Jaune slammed his fist on the table they were on as the sounds of people still being pelted where heard in the distance.
Pyrrha put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Jaune, don't be too hard on yourself. No one saw this coming, if anyone's to blame its Resh for betraying us."
"Even for a traitor, he knows how to pull his moves."
Pyrrha and Jaune readied their trays for an incoming attack, but then they were surprised at how stepped out of the shadows.
"Blake? Ruby!?" Jaune shouted but didn't let down his tray from a potential attack.
"Whoa! We're not here to fight anymore. Resh and his bodyguards have decimated our army into nothing!" Ruby cried out. "It all makes sense! Weiss tried to warn me that Resh appeared on the battlefield. She was working on a way for her glyphs to react to time manipulation via Dust, but Resh must have known that and took her out first!"
"So that's why Weiss suddenly fell despite being at the center of your formation," Jaune took in that information and started thinking hard. "Then he followed up with attacking the leaders of the group to demoralize the other armies and pick them off like ants!" He went on with his thought process.
"But why didn't he aim for me?" Ruby asked. She too was a leader but he hadn't even touched her.
"Because he's a sadist." Jaune spat out darkly. "He probably left you alive to watch all your comrades fall for nothing, then swoop in and defeat you."
"And that is the reason why we've come to find you."
The four turned, seeing Sky and Dove walking with raised arms in the air.
"We come in peace! We mean no harm!" Sky spoke out. "Resh's blue haired body guard hunted us down and Russel… he sacrificed himself so we could escape…" Tears were coming out of the gray haired boy's eyes while Dove looked down in shame.
"Monsters!" Blake hissed.
"But still! We had one last hope! You, Jaune Arc!" Dove explained quickly.
"What? Me?!" The blonde boy pointed to himself.
"Right, I also needed you Jaune!" Ruby spoke out before continuing. "You're the only one who knows Resh enough to figure out a weakness!"
Resh's weakness to his semblance. Truth of the matter is only Team's RWBY and CRDL knew of this secret. The others outside had no idea how powerful Resh's semblance truly was. And with Weiss gone, they had no way to directly counter such a devastating semblance.
That just left him, his (former) best friend.
"I thought that Resh got tired from using his Semblance for too long. How is he capable of using it to this extent?" Blake asked.
"He's only using it sparingly," Jaune explained. "Resh told me that instead of simply wasting aura and energy keeping up time frozen as long as he can, he's decided to limit his freezes to five seconds before letting time flow again. This way, he can conserve his aura levels and stamina much better than before."
"So he can only hold it for a few seconds then or else it drains him to much?" Dove asked.
"Yeah, but I figured out how he's making food suddenly appear out of thin air. We tried it once in one of his time freezes. Inanimate objects can be thrown by someone moving in his frozen time. It actually flies a few seconds before time around it freezes again because Resh was no longer interacting with it, causing it to stop mid throw. When time resumed, the object continued on its path as if it was thrown normally, but by then it will take you by surprise because you didn't see it get thrown in the first place." Jaune explained the science behind Resh's power.
"How do we get around something like that?" Pyrrha wondered.
"I already know Resh's weakness." The blonde boy boldly declared.
"Wait, if he knew that you knew his weakness, why did he let you go?" Sky wondered as he brought up a good point.
"Because an easy victory isn't worth anything to him." Jaune turned back towards the battlefield where the screams were dying down due to a lack of people. "And he's waiting for me to make my next move."
Back in the fort once owned by Nora, two body guards were watching the main entrance.
"Sun, as fun as this was, don't you think we're going a little too far?" Neptune asked his friend who was having fun eating all the squashed food he could pick up.
"Are you kidding me?! Look at all this free food!"
"Aren't you a thief?" Neptune raised his brow.
"Hey! Rude! I just don't need to pay for some food that's all." Sun defended himself.
From a throne made of stacked chairs, Resh opened his eyes and stood up dramatically, cape fluttering as he did so.
"It's time." He said.
"Time? Time for what?" Neptune spoke out.
"It's time to see if those I chose were worthy of defeating me, Resh Kolc!" Resh exclaimed before walking out towards the make shift doors.
"Did he just refer to himself in third person?" Neptune was seriously starting to wonder what kind of trouble Sun got him into this time.
A loud voice boomed from outside.
"Come out you cold blooded murderer! I'm here for your head!"
Resh smiled before activating his semblance to slam the doors open.
Out in the field of people lying on the ground hurt from the massive war, there was a man clad in silver(ware) from head to toe like a knight in shining armor.
"So I, Resh Kolc, take it that you've taken my invitation, old friend…" Resh placed a foot on top of a protruding table on the fort wall and leaned on it.
"I'm here to end your meaningless bloodshed once and for all you sick bastard!" Jaune cried out before taking out a pipe out from behind him.
"These guys are getting waaayyy into this." Neptune spoke out as he and Sun followed after Resh.
"Aww man this is starting to look like that super old fighting cartoon with the buff dudes!" Sun excitedly whispered and nudged his friend.
Resh turned to the two. "I, Resh Kolc, know Jaune, he knows on a straight one on one he can't beat me, so he's going to pull off something. I, Resh Kolc, want you to scour the area while the fight is going on, be wary of anyone attempting to sneak up on me and take them out."
With that, Resh knelt before performing a large back flip into a somersault mid air and landing in front of Jaune in the battlefield.
"So what do you have planned Jaune? I, the Great Resh Kolc, know of Blake, Ruby, and Pyrrha, and that they are supporting you somehow. Is Pyrrha is nearby ready to use her semblance to protect you if a projectile is thrown at you?" In one instant, a cupcake was already flying towards Jaune, but a black hue quickly surrounded Jaune's tray and slid over to shield Jaune's torso.
Resh smiled as that proved his little theory. "Since I, Resh Kolc, can't see her from here, then I, Resh Kolc, am going to deduce she's right in the beams above us isn't she?"
Jaune gave the smallest twitch on his lips as he took a battle stance.
Resh took his own martial form before jumping up and attempting to side kick Jaune. There was a faint black hue as Jaune jumped back faster than he expected and then as he landed back he knocked an apple towards his red eyed opponent. The tyrant tilted his head slightly, letting the apple fly by and dent one of the tables behind him.
While those two were fighting, Sun and Neptune were sneaking around the battlefield. "So what exactly are we looking for?"
Sun shrugged his shoulders. "He said something suspicious… like that!" He shouted in a hushed whisper as they spotted Blake sneaking back around the fort. "Man, she looks good in uniform!" Sun grinned.
Neptune rolled his eyes before he followed after Sun.
"Where do you think they went?" Neptune asked as they snuck around. They didn't notice that two of the bodies around them, suddenly rose up from the ground… and doused them with soda.
"Ahh what?!" Neptune cried out.
"Ha! That was for Russel and Cardin, you fools!" Dove cried out.
"Pretending to be the fallen huh? You got us good there." Sun smiled as he started licking himself.
"Wait we were lead in a trap?" Neptune spoke out. "Doesn't that mean…"
Back with Resh and Jaune, they were fighting furiously with produce flying through the air. Jaune was out of breath trying to fight against someone toying with him.
"Come on Juane! I, Resh Kolc, know you have something planned! Entertain me, Resh Kolc!" He kept his distance and threw food after food. Jaune held on, most of his armor taking the blow of the damage, but it wouldn't last long. If only he could get close to Resh! However, the red eyed teen already knew his father was one of the most capable strategists in all of Remnant. Taking the bait would be tantamount to suicide! So let's see how well he can cope with this…
Resh disappeared from Jaune's sight before popping back into place with a full barrel.
"Guess what's in the barrel, Jaune?" Resh asked before in a blink of an eye, he was already back on top of the fort walls.
"Here's a hint: it's a color you've really got to pay better attention to!" Resh threw the barrel in frozen time.
When time moved on, Jaune was grabbed like a puppet towards a certain direction to avoid the barrel of red cherries from crushing him.
Meanwhile in his head, Jaune was wondering what on Remnant was Resh talking about: what about the color red? It's Pyrrha's hair color and Ruby's favorite color, so why would he have to pay more attention to that?
And why the heck was Resh talking in third person?
"Ah-ha!" Resh stated as he noticed where exactly Jaune was pulled towards. He looked up in that direction and spotted Pyrrha, who just stepped back behind one of the pillars and out of his sights.
"Oh no you don't! Get over here!" Jaune cried as he brought up a pit and came charging right at Resh before throwing it.
"I, Resh Kolc, am disappointed Jaune." Resh clicked his tongue before freezing time as Jaune threw the pie.
Being bored now, Resh walked over to Jaune and moved him in front of his own thrown Pie. He afforded to waste a bit more of his Aura on this, since this would be his great triumph over his long standing enemy.
Taking a few steps back, Resh snapped his fingers, and Jaune got hit with his own weapon.
"Hahaha!" That was the best you've got—" Resh felt something heavy on his back and he suddenly found himself moving forward towards the ground. He fell to his knees and felt melon all over his back. He slowly looked behind him to see Ruby Rose just standing there without his notice.
Jaune smirked as he saw his plan come together.
[Flashback]
"Resh has two weakness: one is that while his semblance is powerful, he can't activate it after succession. There's a three second gap to whenever he comes right out of the time freeze in that he can't freeze time again."
"A three second gap? That's really super narrow!" Dove cried out.
"Not for a speedster." Jaune turned to Ruby, who nodded solemnly.
Pyrrha turned a worried look to her leader. "And the other weakness?"
"Over confidence. He knows that I will have a plan to stop him, but the thing is that he is expecting me to make some plan were everyone gets saved except him. And that is where his weakness lies."
"I don't understand." Sky noted.
"In order to take him down for good, I have to be smashed by him."
Everyone around him started to argue around him, but Jaune wouldn't let them get the final say. He would bait out a fake plan of attack that Resh could easily see through and when Resh defeats Jaune, Ruby would have a three second gap to finish him off after Blake, Sky and Russel take out the guards.
[End of Flashback.]
"I… Win…" Jaune slowly spoke out.
Resh looked over to Jaune on the ground and smiled. "I-I'm possible, but I… well played…" And then the evil warmonger breathe his last as he fell into the ground.
"J-Jaune!" Ruby cried out as she scooped her crèmed friend.
"Good Job Ruby. You did great…." Jaune spoke out weakly. His eyes were getting heavy(he didn't want any of the crème going in his eyes.)
Tears started to come out of silver eyes. Ruby grabbed his hand "Jaune, stop talking! We can still get you help! W-We can still…"
"It's OK Ruby, it's alright. Knowing your all safe is good enough for me." Jaune smiled tiredly with longer gasps and pauses as that sentence went on.
Everyone that survived (And Sun and Neptune) gathered around Jaune spoke his final words.
"It's not good enough for us! What will we do without you!?" Ruby cried out and grabbed his arm. Pyrrha was in near tears as she clasped her mouth with her hands.
"You'll… do… great…" And Jaune let go and fell, his head looking towards his mortal enemy, and his old friend before finally closing his eyes for the final time.
"NNNNOOOOOO!" Ruby cried out as every survivor shed a tear at the man who gave up his life for their future.
"Uhh, you guys do realize he isn't actually dead right?" Neptune asked among all the people starting to cry. But none really seemed to listen to him. The blue haired hunter sighed before looking to Sun.
His partner was also shedding a tear.
"Why are you crying?"
"I-It's just so," Sun sniffed as his tail picked up a slightly dirty tissue and brought it to his hands. "Emotional!" he whined before blowing on to the napkin.
Neptune looked around the damaged cafeteria. "Well I'm just surprised the school is going to let them get away with this all."
"THEY AREN'T."
The crying suddenly stopped and the 'dead' came back to life as they all followed that blighted growl from the monster born from their darkest of nightmares.
Glynda Goodwitch.
"WHO STARTED THIS?" To all other students, the blond woman spoke out in garbled horrors that people's own brain somehow understood the dark meaning coming from her mouth. In reality, she was so angry, that she wasn't even glaring anymore. She was eerily calm and…
She was smiling.
Everyone was quick to point at those teams who started it all: Teams RWBY and JNPR even Team CRDL had turned on them.
Resh, now awake from his defeat thought he could sneak out and freeze time for a bit.
But to the boy's surprise, he ran into someone he didn't see.
Ozpin was standing in front of him with an amused smile, and he was moving in frozen time!
"Sorry, Mr. Kolc," Ozpin spoke out, surprising the wanderer even more. "I think it's best if you face on this challenge, even if it is a death sentence. One more thing though, as soon as you are done meet me in my office."
Seeing no way out of this, Resh let time resume as he witnessed Glynda's forbidden and secret technique: Silent Anger.
{Author Notes}
Incase no one ever got the reference, I based Resh's acting off the character Dio Brando (Or simply known as DIO) from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I thought it would suit him nicely. (And I just love watching the Jojo series.)
So I felt like really bad for making you all wait so much that I tried my best to make another chapter Asap.
This one is a filler, but it's my take on the whole food fight battle.
I sort of included everyone in this one because in the show, they only showed two teams. I think the entire school should have gone down on that with like hunter and hunter fighting down in like one giant super war-
*Looks at Season 3 finale*
Hmmm…
You would think a school of hunters would do more to try and protect their school and not run away from a food fight. Heck, besides the main teams we saw, the students felt more like actual students than hunters. So while they don't have much of an influence in the overall battle, the other students do pitch in and join in on the fun before the fury of Glynda is unleashed upon all of them.
Now I may have taken some liberties and you might have spotted some things.
To this I say: ahh well.
I probably could have done more, maybe include the upper classman, but for some reason I didn't think too. I mean I did, but I didn't know how to fit them into this part of the story. Unlike most people, I have no idea how to write Team CFVY like the other famous writers do. I could take some inspiration, but I don't want to take too much and I do want to be original.
Anywho, next chapter should be where the plot picks up again, and I'm working on a few ideas as well. This chapter was just mindless silliness so there wasn't much planning involved.
See you all soon. (P.S. Points for whoever spots the name Nora gave the Goat and what it means!)
{Aftermath: Ozpin's office}
It had been a while since Resh had come up to this office, as the large elevator doors opened, the black haired boy walked out.
"Ah, Mr. Kolc. How are you this fine day?"
"Uh fine Headmaster is there a reason as to why I was called up here specifically?" He asked.
Ozpin nodded and grabbed his cane. "Why yes." Then he suddenly threw his cane at Resh with amazing speed.
Completely thrown off guard, Resh instinctively activated his Semblance to freeze time just before the cane could reach his face.
"Ahh there we go." Ozpin spoke out as Resh stepped away from the cane.
"W-What was that for!?" The young man spoke out in shock before he realized something: he froze time, but Ozpin was moving within it just like him. "Wait, you're a time manipulator as well?"
"On first appearances, yes, we do seem to have similar semblances," Ozpin stood up his desk and stared walking towards Resh. He took a second to take his cane out of the frozen air before continuing on. "But I personally think our Semblances are quite different."
"Hey wait a second, why didn't you just ask me to freeze time in the first place? Why did you attack me!? And how come I can actually breathe?" The black haired teen cried out.
"That maybe my doing. I notice that my semblance still has some influence here. It's a little tricky in theory, but much easier in practice: I basically just continued the flow of oxygen in this room. As for the simply asking you part, I must apologize for not quite thinking of that."
"You thought about making the air move in another person's frozen time, but you didn't think to ask!?" This was one of the world's most powerful Hunters?!
Ozpin chuckling to himself did not soothe the teen in the slightest. "I didn't put all of my effort into that throw."
Resh rolled his eyes. "Man and I thought I abused my power poorly."
"And now we have the nature of why we are having this conversation. My Semblance, as you can plainly see, is time manipulation. Since even though you have stopped time, I can allow things to continue on despite the rest of Remnant being frozen stiff. However… can you unfreeze time please? There is an example I would like to make."
Seeing how serious Ozpin became, the young student did as he was told. The gears in the room started cranking and Ozpin closed his eyes. Unlike with Resh, Ozpin's eyes started glowing and then a small burst of energy shot out and everything froze just like before.
"When I stop time, I cannot do it as fluidly and as instant as you can, it requires a few seconds of charge and not to mention it doesn't have the potential to last long. However, there is one more downside to my time stop that I have never noticed whenever you use this semblance of yours." Ozpin looked to the side where a black and orange crack appeared in the middle of thin air.
"W-What's that!?" Resh asked as the crack split open and black glowing tendrils came out of the crack like fingers opening a door.
An eye popped out of the crack, a glowing red eye that made Resh felt a strange and eerie sense of déjà vu.
Ozpin quickly stopped his time freeze, allowing everything to start moving again and making the crack and the monstrosity disappear. "That, Mr. Kolc, is a very circumstantial and probably rare breed of Grimm."
That did explain what that gut wrenching feeling was just looking at a glimpse of that creature, but then that brought up even more questions. "That was a Grimm!? But time was frozen!"
"They are called Time Eaters, to this day, I have been the only one to see them since they seem to break the barriers of time and space and hunt down those who manipulate one of the fundamental forces of the universe. They are a unique group of Grimm that appear whenever I try to freeze time for too long and only seem to exist within that stopped time. As soon as time continues on, they too vanish along with the frozen time."
"Y-You mean I might run into them?" Resh asked.
Ozpin started moving towards "Scary isn't it? That even the most powerful of Semblances pale in to the power of the Grimm. Surprisingly, I'm not sure why you haven't seen a trace of these creatures yet. I have a few theories, but this was just a warning to take care when using your Semblance. If you see a crack, break the freeze as soon as possible and the Grimm shall disappear."
Resh looked spooked at that revelation of Grimm coming in and out of thin air whenever he would use his Semblance.
Ozpin coughed. "On happier news. I would like to ask you a favor. There is a far eastern group of students who are participating in the Vytal Festival. They are students of a good friend of mine and he asked me if they could be sent here as a favor. I would like you to welcome them into Beacon."
"Hmm? Why me?" The black haired boy wondered.
"Convenience really. I received this message before I called you up. Seemed like a good idea to tell you to do this for me."
"Why not have a teacher show them around?"
"I think a student would be better off for these people rather than someone with official standing." Ozpin responded.
Resh raised his brow at that. "So… who are these guys?"
"I will send you a picture on your Scroll and some basic information on who they are. Meanwhile, I believe you have lunch to attend to with your fellow teams." Ozpin dismissed the boy before picking up his coffee mug.
"I hope his dentist gives him bad news." Resh muttered as he left in the elevator.
As the boy left Ozpin seemed contemplative. He opened up his screen and looked at a video of Resh's eyes bleeding at the image of a simple, crude drawing of the Pandora's eyes.
"Do the Grimm not hunt you down simply because you've already been marked?" Ozpin zoomed in to how the wander's eyes stared to bleed almost instantly as the eyes were finished.
{Author Notes}
OK I admit, after writing all of this, I found out how silly and OP Resh was. Which is really strange since some people actually like him. (WTF? An OP OC people like?! IN FANFICTION . NET!? What black magic is this!?) but in all seriousness, this is just one of the ways that while Time Manipulation does seem powerful, I've already worked on ways to make it fit well and not goomba stomp the way to solving all problems. For now, Resh is really content with pausing time in small intervals, and will only prolong it in Life changing situations.
Alright, that's all I gotta say for now, see ya later, and thanks for reading.
