Note from Author-
Hey guys, sorry last chapter was short, and sorry it takes me so long to post, lots of school work. I'm going to try a little bit of a different format this time. Let me know what you guys prefer. Thanks!
(Peter) Previously on Heroes-
(Peter) "What the hell does she think she's doing? She's gonna change everything."
(Claire) "Trying? He might say he's trying, but people don't change. "
(Peter) "Claire, I've been working with him for two months, and he hasn't slipped up yet. And I know it's not an act either."
(Sylar) "Those children out there… so weak, and fragile. Each of them with an ability. It would be like taking candy from a baby…"
(Gabriel) "Well there's thrill in helping people too."
(Claire) "I don't know what kind of game you're trying to play Sylar, but I'm not buying into it. Not for a single second!"
Peter sat beside Claire on old, rickety, wooden chairs. They stared at the obsolete model computer screen, squinting their eyes as they tried to make out the text behind the pixilated blur. Peter messaged the bridge of his nose gently, closing his eyes to regain some vision. He tightly gripped the pencil he held. They had been observing background checks for about an hour already. A sudden noise from behind jolted them. Gabriel stepped inside carrying two plates filled with some pasta looking meal.
"Oh, I wondered where you went off to." Peter said dropping the pencil on the desk and turning his chair slightly. Claire didn't bother to turn around,
"Yeah thanks for leaving, and letting us do this alone. Big help." She growled still squinting at the screen. Gabriel ran his tongue over his teeth and smiled smugly, airily laughing,
"Actually I was just getting us something to eat." He slid the plate in front of her, "Sorry to keep you waiting," He slumped down into his chair beside Peter and put his feet on her bed. "Princess Claire." She could feel his sarcasm aimed at the side of her face. She didn't try to hide her irritation,
"Gee, thanks." She snarled. She looked down at the plate before her. Peter nudged her shoulder,
"Come on Claire. Can we just not do this right now? Maybe?" Peter raised his eyebrows, trying to get his point across. Claire grinned and cocked her head innocently,
"I'm sorry Peter," Claire directed her voice to Gabriel, "I just hope it's not Poisoned!" Peter sighed, shaking his head. Gabriel stared at her intently, quickly swinging his feet to the floor,
"Oh because that would work out well wouldn't it?" They both crossed their arms firmly and stared at one another, hatred flooding the small space. Peter shifted his glance between the two of them,
"Okay, now can we please just-"
"Not with HIM!" Claire interrupted clenching her jaw. Gabriel stood angrily,
"What's your problem!?" He said cocking his head to the side, motioning to Claire,
"You're my problem!" She replied, standing as well,
"What did I do now, make you something to eat!? Gosh Claire I'm SO sorry!" Gabriel grabbed the plate in front of her seat forcefully and tossed it in the trash carelessly, leaving some of the food in a mess on the floor, "I'll never do it again!"
"Stop!" Peter yelled, standing finally, "Both of you shut the HELL UP!" He banged his fist on the desk. Gabriel and Claire looked at him intently, a little shocked, "Look, if you guys are going to keep on arguing instead of doing this, then leave." No one moved, "NOW!"
"But this is my cab-"
"I don't care Claire, I'm telling you, as your uncle, to go work out your problems somewhere else while I do this." Claire narrowed her eyes, then quickly left, slamming the door behind her. Gabriel followed behind her. Peter closed his eyes and sighed with relief. He fell back into his seat, resting his head in his arms across the desk.
Outside Claire rushed down the steps of her cabin. She heard the door open and close behind her,
"Claire, wait!" Gabriel said following behind. Claire ignored him, walking faster. She was so irritated at everything. Peter just didn't understand her point of view. Her sight was a little blind from the now dark sky. She tripped on an old, broken beer bottle and tumbled into a heap on the ground. She of course felt nothing. Tears began to stream down her face. Everything was falling apart around her and it was all her fault. All of the people on earth with abilities were being hunted, the man she hates the most was living just across the street, all of her family was gone except Peter, and now even he is against her. She continued to lay on the ground sobbing. Gabriel approached her slowly. He went to his knees next to her, gently reaching for her arm,
"Claire," He said softly, placing his hand carefully around her arm to support her. She shoved him away forcefully,
"Don't touch me!" She cried, standing quickly. She wiped her eyes and turned away from him, crossing her arms. He stood a few feet behind her.
Claire noticed a few children hiding behind a nearby cabin. They had been observing the argument,
"Claire, listen, I know that saying I'm sorry would never mean anything to you, but I'll say it anyway because it helps me feel like a better person. I am sorry, for everything. I was at a difficult time in my life, and I made a bad decision. If you never want to talk to me, or see me ever again, I understand. I'll just stay out of your way." Claire didn't reply, she just stood, listening and thinking. Gabriel started to turn and leave when a sound caught his attention. It was close, and to their right. He heard Heavy breathing, but it wasn't the children. He saw something glistening in the distance. He listened carefully with his hearing ability. A voice began to sound clear to him. It said,
"Ready, aim,-"
"GET DOWN!" Gabriel yelled, tackling Claire to the ground,
"What the hell are you-"
"Agents! They found us!" Claire's eyes widened. Suddenly, a blinding light flooded the space from above. A helicopter hovered there. Agent's flooded in from the right side. Refugees rushed from their cabin's, running to the woods on the left. Gabriel jumped to his feet along with Claire. Refugees were getting stunned down left and right. Chaos ensued around them, "Go Claire!" Gabriel yelled over the crowd's screaming. He sprinted forward,
"Where are you going!?" Claire yelled back. He pointed toward something. She looked in the direction. Her heart stopped when she spotted the children who had been spying on their conversation being targeted by a burly agent. She sprinted forward, unthinkingly, to help.
Gabriel ran towards the man who was aiming his stun gun at the frightened children. He telekinetically flung the man against the wall of a cabin before the trigger was pulled. The man fell to the dirt, unconscious. Claire, ran to them from behind,
"Claire, take them into the-" Claire watched horrified, as Gabriel jolted suddenly. His eyes rolled back in his head, and he collapsed, hitting the ground hard. The man who had moments earlier been out cold was reloading the stun gun, and aiming it at her,
"RUN!" Claire yelled to the children, her adrenaline on high. They set out in a dead sprint, but before Claire knew it, she was falling, everything going dark.
The agent stood from his spot, and slowly walked towards the two fugitives he had shot down. He kneeled over the first, Handcuffing his arms behind his back, and wrapping a company issued ability blocking bracelet on his arm. The agent shoved Gabriel over onto his back, his head lulling to the side. The agent stared at his face for a moment. His eyes lit up. He pulled out a walkie talkie and clicked onto the company frequency,
"Mr. Bennet, this is red leader Sanchez." The agent said, a smile tugging at his lips,
"Mr. Sanchez, is there a problem?" Bennet sounded over the speaker,
"No sir, not really. You'll never believe who I just bagged. I think you'll be quite happy to hear it sir." Bennet was silent for a moment,
"Sylar was there?" Sanchez grinned from ear to ear,
"Yes sir."
"Congratulations Mr. Sanchez, you've just captured the number one criminal on our most wanted list."
"Thank you sir. I'll have the captives to headquarters right away sir." Agent Sanchez turned off the walkie talkie,
"Hey, we have two more over here!" He yelled to some of his men, scattered around, picking up fallen specials. Four came to his aid. After handcuffing Claire and putting on the ability blocker, they carried Claire and Gabriel away to a large metal helicopter carrier. They placed them on the floor inside roughly, alongside 15 other specials. Agent Sanchez slammed the carrier door himself, still grinning,
"I'm so getting a raise."
