He murmurs too softly, "I don't want you here."

It does the trick. Sakura nods, silently apologising for infringing on his space, and she collects her things. She passes him; he can't to tell if she's looking at him; he stares straight ahead, unseeing.

"Sasuke," Sakura says his name from the doorway. He turns.

He doesn't speak – he doesn't move.

"Fuck you," she whispers. Her eyes narrow and her lips press together. Sakura shakes her head, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Inhaling deeply, she sniffs. "You know I love you, but sometimes I really hate you."

He doesn't flinch at the steel in voice or at the dangerously calm click of his bedroom door moments later.

And that's because Sasuke agrees with her.

"Me too," he says.

The New Normal Chapter 19.

He hasn't looked at Itachi's manuscript since the day Sakura left, but that doesn't mean he can't remember it. Ever since that incident so long ago, Sasuke has held onto things he'd rather forget; it's a product of his family's murder but also his genetic condition. It's irrelevant though – Itachi should be gone from his head. Sasuke thought he'd come to peace with his big brother during the war, but Itachi visits his dreams – whispering to him moments of the past and unhelpful fantasies of the future. Sometimes Sakura visits him too…but like Itachi, it's in his imagination.

She hasn't come back, not for weeks and then not for months…which surprised him at first. When they fought he didn't realise that she wasn't coming back. He's been trying to shake her off for years, and only now persistence has won. It's ironic, he's stuck in Konoha while Sakura's off learning ANBU secrets, probably kissing Kakashi's ass while she does it, too. He hopes she's not kissing anything else…

Sasuke doesn't think about it too long, never does, because his knuckles clench, along with his jaw…and he gets a strange feeling in his chest. Like times before, Sasuke's imagination sends him distant flashes of Sakura's body and the sounds of their sex...the sounds of her meaningless chatter, or her sometimes scolding tone. He wonders, would she fuck someone else?

Fingers click in front of his face and Sasuke exhales like he's being severely inconvenienced…which he is.

"Sasuke-san, please try to focus. The sooner we run through this the better."

Sasuke's sharingan narrow at the young nurse as his lips turn into a line of practiced disdain.

"Where is Shizune?" He's asks again, managing to sound more annoyed than when he first sat down.

Her eyes widen and she begins to stammer, "Ah, well, um, as I've said, Shizune-sama is in a meeting and has asked me to take the bi weekly data for her."

Her arm reaches out towards him.

Sasuke pulls back. "I didn't agree to this."

"Yes you did." The nurse insists.

He lets her catch him this time, waiting for her hand to touch his shoulder firmly before he blinks and his eyes focus red, capturing her brown orbs in a sharingan induced sleep. He sighs in relief as she crumples in his arms. He hauls her easily onto the medical bed and without looking back he heads toward the window.

"How did I know you were going to do this?" Shizune's voice sounds from behind him just as he is about to take off. He pauses, frowning, but jumps down from the window ledge a moment later.

"I think you enjoy it. Otherwise you'd turn up on time." He gripes. Sasuke turns and leans against the window sill, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Will you cooperate with me today?" Shizune asks, stepping into the room. She's still in her business wear, which is confirmed by the satchel full of paper work clasped in her right hand. Her shoes click on the linoleum floor as she walks closer.

"Where is Sakura?" He asks her.

Like the other times, Shizune looks pained. "You know I can't tell you that, Sasuke."

His eyes narrow, "What if I already know."

"Then there's nothing for me to tell you, is there?" She retorts, and Sasuke breathes out in defeat.

"Sakura would want you to cooperate with me." Shizune reasons.

"Yeah, and what makes you think I give a shit?" He scowls.

Shizune shakes her head, "Come on, lets go to my office, this bed looks occupied." She smiles at the sleeping nurse in amusement and Sasuke pretends not to notice. "The sooner you come with me the sooner you can go home, Sasuke."

He sighs raking his fingers through his hair before his hands find the safe confines of his pockets. Reluctantly he follows the senior medic out of the consultation room into the hall. Shizune's sandals click on the gleaming linoleum in front of him, but the crisp sound is distant to his ears.

He frowns, wondering, 'Where are you Sakura?'
