Leo

Calypso grabbed Leo's hand.

"They should have let me go instead!"

Leo rolled his eyes and turned the spanner around the fuse box. He had located the time machine again easily. It had been his first time on a Model T though he was quite impressed that Tyson actually had one. He had made quite a trip through the Vineyards red-light district to get to it though. Hence it was proven, life without GPS was not worth living.

Now all he had to do was somehow pump the water out of the egg-shelled wire bonnet... it was filled with water and geese droppings.

He sighed and rolled his sleeves further up.

"Are you even listening to me?"

Leo wasn't. His head was quietly cataloguing all the metals that were handy around the town. He would have to add to some wires.

"LEO!"

"Aaah!"

Leo jumped and jerked around.

He didn't quite process what he was seeing. His mind just couldn't grasp why a girl in a long and lacy white frock would ever step into a pond infested with geese.

"Ugh! What's wrong with these creatures?"

Three geese bit down on her white gown and held on to it no matter how hard she flailed and tried to throw them off her skirt.

"Ugh! God!"

And with that she slipped.

Leo shielded his face with his forearm as water splashed around wildly. Slowly, he peeked over his rusted cufflinks to see a very red faced Calypso sitting half under water with a seemingly proud goose between her legs.

"If that bird goes inside my skirt I swear I'll-"

He lifted the geese up and set it afloat away from her. The geese flapped angrily and glared up at him.

He laughed.

"Are you sure? He seems to be quite in love."

Calypso huffed and tried to get up,

"Well, he was being too forward."

And then she slipped again.

This time Leo couldn't help it. His bark of laughter rang out with the wild splash of water.

"Very funny isn't it?"

He rubbed his eyes,

"You have no idea!"

And with that he turned around and restarted his tinkering and tampering.

Calypso stared at his back, her mouth hanging open.

"Where's your chivalry? Won't you help me up?"

He took off the lid of the heating unit and turned the fan inside it,

"I think you're perfectly capable of getting up by yourself."

He could feel Calypso's anger rolling off her chest and hitting his back. He smiled to himself. He really liked this girl.

But of course his fate was doomed. He'd seen a daguerreotype of this infamous Percy Jackson. Chiron had given it to Annabeth. He'd said that that red haired girl Kate had had it all this time.

It had been a picture of Annabeth and Percy, when they'd kissed inside a very ancient church which could totally use a couple of wrenches, hammers... more preferably bulldozers.

The picture hadn't shown all of him but it had shown enough. That guy was over six feet tall, towering over Annabeth who was the tallest girl he'd ever seen, with a lean body. His arms looked strong from the way he had gripped Annabeth's waist. So the guy probably had killer muscles under those dark clothes. His hair had been dishevelled in that perfect look which, apparently, no girls of any era could resist.

In comparison Leo was short for a guy, barely five-nine, with an embarrassing excuse of a branched stick for a body and wild curly hair that seemed to have their own mind... which constantly seemed to disagree with his idea of smooth and shiny.

"What?"

He glanced back at her for a second then pulled a blue wire out.

"I think you're very strong."

"Are you talking to the machine or to me?"

He rolled his eyes again. As if he could concentrate on anything else while she was around. He was starting to regret letting her tag along with him.

"I wish the machine could speak."

He mumbled under his breath.

"Excuse me?"

He replaced his spanner for a bigger one.

"Nothing."

There was a hasty huff of breath and some more splashing. He didn't have to turn around to know that Calypso was back on her feet. He could feel her rise behind his back.

"If you have something to say to me then come out right with it!"

He grabbed the blue wire and started to peel off the insulation with his pocket knife.

"I've nothing to say."

Calypso grabbed his shoulder and jerked him around.

"Because you think I am a hoe? Well I wasn't really enjoying being raped!"

He grabbed her hand,

"Hey! Where did that come from?"

Tears pooled inside Calypso's beautiful dark almond eyes.

"Why else would you be so disgusted by me? Someone might have told you all about 'the dirty little whore on the island'!"

She tried to jerk away but he held fast to her hand,

"Why would you think I'm disgusted by you?"

Her eyes darkened,

"Because you haven't looked at me-"

"That's not tru-"

"Properly or even talked straight to me!"

For a moment He stared at her, she stared back at him with watery eyes and a rapidly reddening nose.

He searched her eyes for another moment then spoke,

"I'm sorry I made you feel like that Calypso."

"That's all you have to say after avoiding me all morning? I greeted you in the car but all you did was nod your stupid head once whereas usually you're cracking up like a-a mad goose in heat!"

He could see that something had gotten her really worked up and she was taking it all out on him.

"You wanted to go instead of Annabeth."

He made that a statement. Why wouldn't he? That's all she'd said at all in the last hours he'd been with her.

She nodded,

"I want to go. I have to-to-to-"

"Avenge Percy Jackson?"

She gave him a sour look but said nothing.

He sighed and let go of her hand. A small part of his mind screamed at him to grab it- to grab her, but he ignored it. He didn't want to get slapped.

"I understand Calypso. But I don't agree with you."

She pursed her lips and glared at him,

"Why? Aren't you jealous?"

He frowned,

"Why would I be?"

"Because you're obviously in love with Annabeth!"

He shook his head.

"No I'm not. Besides..."

The corners of his mouth turned up,

"She'd kick all those poor guys back another century if they dared to utter the word 'love' around her right now."

She sniffed,

"He wouldn't have died is she'd-"

He turned around and glared at her. He was rarely mad at anyone and Leo being angry was practically a myth and yet he couldn't help but be angry at her.

"You say that though you know that's not what you really think. You keep saying it and saying some more till it eats Annabeth out. I have no idea- wait I exactly have an idea about why you hate her so much but give it up already!"

He heaved heavily. She glared at him and opened her mouth but he beat her to it.

"I know he meant a lot you..."

He whispered gently,

"And I'm sure you meant a lot to him too but Annabeth-"

"Shouldn't even be here!"

She buried her face in her hands and turned away. He could literally see her heart breaking. His chest tightened.

"Even if she hadn't come he would have died."

She didn't turn back. Her shoulders trembled and soft muffled sobs escaped the lock of her fingers.

He sighed and splashed his way towards her. He stood behind her for a moment then tentatively placed a hand on her shoulder. She spun around and wrapped her arms around him.

He stood awkwardly with both his hands slightly raised and stared up at the sky. He was bad with people crying... specially girls.

"Wanna hear something funny?"

She sniffled and nodded against his chest.

"You know why the sky is blue and not pink?"

She snorted, pressed her chin against his chest and looked up,

"Why?"

He grinned.

"Because you didn't paint it."

She stared at him with a dumbfounded look. He knew it was an awful joke. He wasn't even sure if she liked pink, she just looked like the sort of girl who did.

She pursed her lips,

"You know why I haven't thrown you into the pond yet?"

Leo shook his head.

Calypso smiled, her reddened eyes looked so pretty that Leo unconsciously settled his hands on her hips.

"Because I like you."

She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against his.

Annabeth

The world seemed to shine and tingle with sparks.

Percy was propped against one of his arms and looking into her eyes while slowly lacing and unlacing their fingers.

And she was pressed against him with her hand still splayed over his chest, which was hard but his skin was soft. Very soft.

Annabeth blushed and buried her face into her shoulder.

He traced her arm and grabbed her hips.

She winced.

He brushed the few strands of hair away from her sweaty temple and gave her a guilty look.

"You're hurting aren't you?"

She laughed a little then shivered.

He pulled the hairy blanket up to her chin.

"I should be asking you that."

He scrunched his face up to a look of mock horror.

"To think my wife would question my manliness. What has the world come to be?"

She laughed and pushed against his chest. He pressed her against the soft pillows and kissed her.

Annabeth was slowly losing her mind. His kisses were like a drug. They were lifting her higher and higher and dumping her into huge fluffy clouds of sunshine and rainbows.

Percy broke the kiss then slowly kissed her forehead, then her eyelids, then just beneath her ear.

Annabeth giggled and swatted at him,

"That tickles!"

He grinned at her and pulled her towards him.

"But I'm serious. Are you alright?"

Percy sighed and rubbed his thumb against her forehead.

"Why do you worry so much?"

He had the nerve to ask that after being gutted.

"That's not really an answer."

"I'm fine."

His grin widened and Annabeth's fiery blush spread to her neck,

"Actually I'm wonderful... more than that even so."

Annabeth's breath caught in her throat.

"I love you."

She had whispered those words into his ears about a million times when they'd been locked together in passion.

But saying the words out loud and clear took courage.

That's what she had assumed.

But she found it was really lovely.

To be able to tell him whenever and wherever about her heart and to be able to hold him close... it made her delirious and giddy. She'd never thought she would see him again and maybe that was why those words came out so easily...

She didn't want to hesitate anymore.

"You know I almost strangled Martha a few times?"

His smile was pure and angelic. He rested his head against his pillow and blinked sleepily. His head was a twisted mess of black hair.

It was all too adorable.

"Now you know how I felt there every day."

Annabeth smiled,

"I thought about you all the time."

He was speaking softly, or maybe she wasn't able to hear anything above the roar of her heart.

"I wondered what you were doing, if you were alright or hurt... If you were eating and sleeping and if you were..."

He trailed off.

Annabeth touched his cheek lightly and he turned him face into her palm.

"I wasn't nearly alright."

Her voice wobbled.

"I missed you so much."

His lips brushed against hers tenderly.

A loud crash made her heart crawl out of her chest.

She stilled against Percy and looked at him frantically.

He frowned and wrapped his arms around her, crushing her against his chest.

Annabeth looked around. The room was sealed and the only door led to the sitting room. Percy's heartbeat sped up under her cheek.

It couldn't be the guards. It was just too cruel. It couldn't be-

"I toooold yoooou I dona know!"

All the air deflated out of Percy's chest with a sigh of relief. She looked at up at him. He smiled slowly and opened his mouth but then shut it quickly.

"I don't understand. Nobody knows what happened to that body and now a prisoner is missing with two of our guards dead. And the last person who was with-"

"I never seenna no pretty blonde in that clot-hole!"

A sickening feeling settled deep within Annabeth's stomach.

She scrambled out of the bed and pulled the blanket around her.

"Annabeth?"

Percy whispered and hurriedly grabbed his clothes off the floor.

She ignored him and snuck up on her tiptoes to the door.

She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She was probably wrong. There were many people with same faces. Maybe it was just someone who sounded like him. There was no way he could possibly actually be there.

She opened the door a crack and peeked out just when the familiar voice boomed through the little room.

"But you were the last one to see that body! If I recall correctly you, Sir Doctor, wanted to identify it."

"Push! Tha ol thin! Threw it away ges goo!"

Luke's jaw tightened.

The gesture was so familiar. Annabeth could almost pretend that she was back in his room when she'd slipped away from his grasp, then she was in his backyard when she'd told him about her plan to study in Rome and then she was in all those places simultaneously when she'd refused him something and his jaw had tightened with restrained anger.

A small gasp escaped her lips.

Luke looked around and frowned.

"Is there anybody else in here?"

The short bald man pulled at the lapels of his brown woolly coat.

"Just meee and my mice."

Luke twisted his nose in disgust then turned away. The bald man slurred and swayed but followed the young man around the armchairs and out of the room. Their voices muffled and grew smaller until there was nothing left of it.

Annabeth backed away blindly... disbelief clogging her senses. She bumped to Percy's hard chest. She turned around and looked at him.

He had already struggled into his trousers and was standing and glaring at the spot where Luke had been seconds ago with his shirt hanging from his elbow.

Her voice clawed its way out of her thundering chest and her dry throat.

"What is it?"

He pursed his lips and wriggled into his shirt.

"That noble bastard."

He glanced down and touched his ring.

Annabeth Chase.

He traced her name with his thumb and she could swear that she felt his fingers running down her spine.

"He seemed to know you."

He looked up and stared straight into her eyes, the ocean inside them turning over with anger.

"He's the one who..."

...tried to kill him.

"Stabbed me."

Annabeth stooped on her tiptoes and wound her hand around Percy's neck, burying her face in his chest.

His arms went around her west and his chin settled atop her head. He whispered reassuringly into her ears.

She buried her face further into him. She couldn't look at him.

Luke had worn the finest silk the era had to offer. He had attempted to murder Percy. He was with the emperor.

How will I chose? To pick one would be to doom another.

She knew she couldn't just judge Luke and plan to crush him under her boot. He must have had some reason...

Annabeth looked up and took Percy's face in her hands.

It really wasn't a choice, she realised. She was the most selfish person she'd ever known. She had never looked after the twins because looking at them reminded her of her step mother. She'd never given her council much power over her and she'd always come above everybody else in every single test and competition.

She was selfish and that was why she chose the boy she loved.

She locked her gaze with his and formed the words in her mind,

"I've to tell you something."

Jason

Khione wailed from inside her bed chambers. It was soon followed by the midwife's soothing whispers. The doctor had staggered in an hour ago.

Jason buried his face inside his palms and sighed.

He had work to do but he couldn't leave. It wasn't only that he would draw undue suspicion if he left Khione's side after bringing in a rebel inside the palace.

He was anxious.

He wanted to see his child.

It didn't seem real that he was going to become a father in a matter of hours. Until a couple of hours ago he had made himself believe that he felt nothing for the child.

I wish there was some other way

Piper's words echoed in his mind. She was the only one who had objected to their plan. Octavian had snorted in disbelief at Piper's insistence to spare the child of that noble hoe

And now the child was going to live and their plan was going to work too.

The door to the parlour opened gently and the Emperor was announced. Jason turned around swiftly and the servant girl at his feet with the fruit bowl bowed her head down and glued her eyes to the floor.

He courtsied and dipped his chin, staring at the velvet slippers the Emperor had chosen to honour.

"Rise, my dear boy."

He straightened and flinched. The Emperor's golden eyes were boring into his. It was the strangest feeling he was having at that moment. He wasn't scared or terrified... rather he felt... loved... wanted.

Jason shook himself out of his trance and greeted the Emperor,

"My Lord, my apologies for my disrespect. For you to have come all the way to our humble chambers is an honour."

He waved Jason's words away with a booming laugh.

"No need for apologies, young Duke."

His eyes strayed to the girl with the fruit basket. Lust physically gleamed through eyes and dripped down his smile, erasing whatever false sense of warmth he had had earlier.

Jason stopped himself from glaring at the Emperor. It was easy to forget that the man standing before him was over sixty and was his grandfather.

The lines on his face almost disappeared with the twist of his jaws.

Jason shuddered.

He was a man who had sent to slaughter all his children because they had rivalled against his rules... he had ordered to spare no one... not even the toddlers and the unborn ones.

Jason clutched his jaw and waited for the Emperor to dismiss him. He knew that he was going to.

And even though it hurt his very soul to leave the poor girl who was younger than even his baby cousin Hazel with that monster... he would do it. It had to be done.

"You can take a break Jasper. I'll be here with my dear niece."

Jason pretended to protest but Emperor firmly rejected him,

"You have other things to take care of. The ball must be grand, otherwise Khione would be most disheartened."

He forced a smile.

"Yes. My gratitude for your kindness."

The Emperor chuckled and waved him away.

He hadn't even made his way all the way down the staircase when the screaming started. He closed his eyes and willed the world into silence. His crimes were as unforgivable as the Emperor's for not protecting that poor helpless girl and many more.

At that moment he swore to himself that it would all come to an end that night

And if he lived to see the next sunrise he would beg Piper to accept him and his child. He would never let them go.
