Chapter 9 Queen Of Disaster Chapter 9: Cruel World

Fairytale Land 14 years later:

It was officially Princess Rapunzel's 14th birthday and again she was spending it in the tower she had been stuck in all her life. It wasn't like she had much of a choice though, her mother the Queen of there land, constantly refused to let Rapunzel step a foot out of her prison. From the inside the tower just looked like a normal Princess's bedchamber complete with a small kitchen but from the outside people saw a normal tower which just so happened to be the tallest in all the kingdoms, Only the few with really powerful magic saw it as it really was; a crumbling, dark, torture tower with decaying walls and a roof which was falling apart, leaving a makeshift skylight. The tower was found deep in the dark forest which surrounded Queen Regina's kingdom, home to many dangerous, cold-blooded, mythical creatures.

Rapunzel gazed up a the village skyline, it was twilight, one of Rapunzel's favourite times of day. She loved it because of a tale she had read as a little girl, it was a romance story between the sun and moon. The moon and the sun were once two humans in love, a god had laid eyes on the sun's beauty and he instantly fell in love. After the sun rejected him he instantly fell into a fit of rage and out of jealousy cursed the moon and sun to eternity in the sky, never being able to see each other again yet they were so close. A good fairy discovered what the jealous god had done and felt sorry for the two lovers, as she wasn't strong enough to undo the gods magic so instead she allowed the moon and sun to see each other for a short time twice a day. Dusk and dawn.

A rustle of leaves made Rapunzel look down at the ground, when she was younger she couldn't even go near the window with the fear of falling out but now since she had grew up with being up so high constantly she had gotten used to it. Rapunzel searched the ground only to see a small baby manitor quickly run across the open patch of grass in front of the tower and disappearing again in the green overgrown vegetation, she stared longingly at where the manitor had disappeared. How she wished she could do the same, run through the same forest she had gazed down upon for years and feel the wind blow through her hair and just be...free.

"Rapunzel!" A voice down below made Rapunzel look down, their she saw her mother standing regal and clad in her usual dark clothing. "Rapunzel! Dear, let your hair down!" Rapunzel obeyed her mothers command, like always, and tossed down her 80 foot golden hair.

When Regina got to the top of the tower she took her daughter's flustered and slightly panting face in her hands and kissed her forehead "Sweetheart, I honestly don't know how you do it! Doing that everyday? It looks positively exhausting." Regina commented and sat in a near by chair.

Rapunzel shrugged out of breath "Oh, it's nothing. You get used to it." That was a lie though and Rapunzel knew it, she never got used to pulling her mothers weight up by her hair.

Regina didn't seem to be listening any more and she looked around her daughters room "The glamour needs strengthening." Regina said and turned to her daughter "Rapunzel, dear, its time for your magic lesson."

Storybrooke

Maddie jumped as her mother burst through the door of her private hospital room. Being the mayors daughter ment she got a private room with a private bathroom, she wasnt going to complain about that.

"Madison are you okay?" Regina asked her daughter.

Maddie resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she pulled her UGGs on "Mother I'm fine I just fainted."

Regina frowned "What did the doctor say?"

"He said it was just my body's way of adjusting to the new medication." That was a lie the truth was that Dr Whale or any other doctor had no clue what happened, after Maddie collapsed it was like nothing was wrong, like she was still awake.

Regina sighed "Fine, let me just sign you out." With that she walked out leaving her daughter on the bed.

Maddie looked around the over sterilized room, obviously belonging in the hospital as no other place could possibly be this clean. She coughed and looked up before cringing while wishing that the white lights didnt have to be so bright. She coughed again and held her head, it was officially the worst headache she had ever had and she just wanted some paracetamol, the loud ringing sound in her head blocked out every other sound, nor did she notice the dark shadow moving in the corner.

Maddie sat in the waiting room as her mother signed her out and watched the rain pound on the glass. She always loved watching the rain, when she was a little girl she would stick her head out of her bedroom window and let the rain soak her hair as she pretended to be a princess waiting for her night in shining armor to save her from the dragon (a charming nickname she gave her mother) and though it always pissed Regina off Maddie continued to do it anyway.

"Hello." She jumped slightly and looked in front of her where the slightly scratchy voice came from. There stood the girl she saw right before she passed out, Lily, she honestly didnt have a clue how she knew the chicks name but she did.

"Erm...hi?" Maddie said to the girl and shot her a small awkward smile. Honestly the girl was starting to annoy her, popping up out of nowhere and making her headache ten times as worse.

Lily sat down in the seat next to Maddie, not noticing Maddie scooting away from her slightly. "Do you know me?" She asked

course I don't bitch "No." Maddie said, her thoughts not nearly being as nice as her words.

Lily nodded "But you know my name."

Maddie eyed her "I guess."

"How?"

Maddie shrugged "I dunno, I probably hured one of the doctors say it."

Lily frowned at her "You were never this realistic..." She mumbled to herself "No Madison, we used to be friends." She said louder.

Maddie's eyebrows pulled together in confusion "We were?" She asked sceptically.

Lily nodded and Maddie mentally confirmed her self-diagnosis that the chick in front of her was completely bat shit crazy. Lily smiled "Where do you live?"

Oh shit she's gonna kill me "Mars" Maddie said sarcastically, there was absolutely no way she was telling this random crazy bitch, who'd she had never met before, where she lived . For all Maddie knew this chick had serious mental problems and shed end up slaughtering Maddie and the rest of her family in such a style that the police wouldnt even be able to call it a bloodbath.

Lily chuckled at Maddie's comment and spotted Regina at the reception desk arguing with a slutty nurse with way to much make-up on. "Are you leaving?" Lily asked sadly.

Maddie nodded and flipped through a magazine that was years old. Oh wow look at that. Michael Jackson died, who would have thought?

"Please don't leave." Lily said drawing Maddie's attention away from the magazine.

Maddie raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"

"Misery loves company, stay." Lily begged.

Maddie gritted her teeth, is this bitch trying to say I'm miserable? "No."

Lily didn't drop it "Why not? Stay here. We can talk to each other, its better here, that town out there is a mess so-"

Maddie snapped "News flash honey, if you haven't fucking noticed, this whole motherfucking world is a mess, for fuck sake if you want to stay completely safe you have to wear a fucking bullet proof vest to school so dumb arse doesnt shoot you, people are dying left, right and fucking centre and disises are spreading like wildfire so don't sit there and tell me that this tiny arse town in the middle of bumfuck no where, where nothing ever happens is a mess. Whether you like it or not I am leaving this over sterilized, bleach smelling hospital and going home. I don't know you, I don't want to know you. Leave me the fuck alone." She felt slightly guilty about raging at the girl afterwards when seeing the sad, guilty look on the girls face but shoved it to the side. It wasn't like she planned to snap at the girl like that but she just flipped out.

"Madison, we're leaving." Regina called to her daughter.

Maddie stood and shot a quick look at Lily who seemed to be wearing a heartbroken expression. Maddie opened her mouth to apologize but her pride got the best of her and she snapped her jaw shut. Sighing, Maddie walked over to her mum without looking back at Lily.

"What was that about?" Regina asked, looking between her daughter and the girl.

"Nothing mother, can please go now? I'm tired."

"Of course dear."
