Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all your support so far. I've said it before but I really appreciate it. In other news, I created a Tumblr for this fanfic where you can ask the characters (or me) questions and see spoilers. The Tumblr handle is finchelseason5. Anyway, enjoy this chapter and review if you want me to continue!
Chapter 39: Engaged
When Rachel woke up the morning after Christmas, she couldn't help but smile when she saw the ring on her finger. She was really engaged this time. She'd been engaged before, but this time - they were actually going to go through with it.
She looked at Finn next to her. Her fiance. Not her boyfriend, her fiance, her husband soon enough. Finn was asleep, so she took out her phone and took a photo of the ring on her finger. She was about to text the photo of the ring to her friends when the phone went off with a text from Kurt. "Oh my gosh! So he actually went through with it last night?"
Rachel smiled as she replied to the text. "Yes! I'm so happy."
"Well, I'm excited for you guys," Kurt texted back. "And I know I'm Finn's best man, but I still want to plan your bachelorette party."
"Well, I'd be happy for you to do that as long as it's okay with Finn," Rachel texted.
"I helped him pick out the ring, you know," Kurt texted.
"I know, Finn told me," Rachel texted. "I really like the ring you guys picked out."
"Well, Blaine and I will come over today so we can see it on your finger!" Kurt texted.
"I look forward to that!" Rachel texted. She then went back to the photo of the ring in the photos on her phone and sent a phototext to Santana, Mercedes, Tina, Quinn, Brittany and Kylie: "Look what Finn gave me for Christmas! You guys might want to start researching bridesmaid duties because I want you girls as my bridesmaids! Hope you all had a great Christmas!"
Finn woke up and turned to Rachel. "How'd you sleep last night, my beautiful fiancee?"
Rachel smiled. "Great. So, when should we tell our parents?"
"Maybe have them over today," Finn suggested. "I wouldn't be surprised if Kurt already told our parents though."
"Knowing Kurt, he probably has," Rachel laughed. "But I'm sure they'd be happy to come over anyway. How's noon sound?"
"Sounds good to me," Finn said.
"Okay, then that's when we'll tell them," Rachel said. She got out her phone and texted her dads while Finn texted his mom and Burt.

At noon, Hiram, LeRoy, Burt and Carole had arrived at Shelby's townhouse. Apparently Kurt hadn't told their parents about what had happened last night, because no one seemed to have any idea why Finn and Rachel had called them over. When Shelby came downstairs, Rachel felt herself getting nervous. Finn had told her that her dads had given him permission to propose to her, but at the same time, what if they had changed their minds? What if they didn't know when Finn was going to do it? What if they rather would have waited a few years?
Rachel's thoughts were interrupted when Finn put his arm around her and began talking. "Thank you all for coming. Rachel and I have some big news to tell you."
Rachel figured she'd follow Finn's lead. She smiled at him. "You tell them."
"You tell them!" Finn said, looking thrilled.
Rachel decided to go for it. She held up her hand and revealed her ring. "Finn asked me last night to marry him!"
"You're going to be my daughter-in-law!" Carole exclaimed.
"She already is like one of our children!" Burt said. "Now it's going to be official."
"We're glad to hear you did it," Hiram said. "We're really looking forward to it."
"And this time, we'll be happy to help with planning the wedding," LeRoy added.
"Well, I think Kurt's claimed the of the wedding planner," Rachel said.
"So, when do you think it's going to be?" Hiram asked.
Rachel hadn't really had the chance to think about that. "We just got engaged last night, but we'll let you know when we decide on a date."
"I kind of do want it to be here," Finn said.
Rachel liked that idea. "Maybe we could have it in Central Park."
"Yes!" Finn exclaimed. "On Bow Bridge."
That would be the perfect place. "Yes!" Rachel exclaimed. "And I do want the New Directions to perform, so hopefully they'd come to New York for it."
"Oh, I'm sure they would," Finn said.
"Have you guys decided who you want in your wedding party?" Carole asked.
"Well, Kurt's going to be my best man, of course, and then I want Blaine, Sam, Artie, Mike and Puck as groomsmen," Finn said. "I talked to them before I asked Rachel to marry me, and they're all in."
"Yeah, I want my bridesmaids to be the original glee girls, plus Kylie," Rachel said. "I'm not sure who's going to be my maid of honor yet."
"We're very happy for you guys," Shelby said.
"Do you think Beth would like to be the flower girl?" Rachel asked Shelby.
"I'm sure she'd love that," Shelby said.

"Well, Finn, as it turns out, we did pick the perfect ring," Kurt said. Kurt and Blaine had come over, and both of them were thrilled for Finn and Rachel.
"Thanks," Finn said. "I couldn't have done it without you."
"We're so happy for you guys," Blaine said.
"Well, we're very happy," Finn said.
"What do the girls think?" Blaine asked.
"Well, they're excited," Rachel said. "They agreed to be my bridesmaids."
"Of course they did!" Blaine said.
"Maybe now that we've told our closest family members and friends we can announce it on social media," Finn told Rachel.
"Yes!" Rachel declared. Finn logged on to Facebook and posted a photo of him and Rachel with the ring, with the caption "Can't wait to spend the rest of my life with this amazing woman! I love my beautiful fiancee!" They both changed their Facebook statuses to engaged. When they went back on to check later that day, Finn's photo had numerous comments:
Blaine Anderson: I know Kurt and I are sitting right next to you, but aren't you glad that I encouraged you to ask her dads? :)
Kurt Hummel: I am so excited to plan my brother and my best friend's wedding! (Like Blaine said, I know we're next to you, but it's not official until we announce it on Facebook!)
Noah Puckerman: I've told you before, I always hoped it would be you. Congrats!
Sam Evans: Woo hoo! Can't wait to see the engaged couple back in New York!
Tina Cohen-Chang: This is so exciting!
Quinn Fabray: You guys are meant to be. Congratulations!
Artie Abrams: First Glee wedding! Congratulations Finn and Rachel!
Santana Lopez: About time!
Brittany Pierce: Congratulations from me and Lord Tubbington.
Mercedes Jones: Hell to the yes!
Mike Chang: Let me know if you want me to work with you on dance moves for the first dance. Congratulations!
Rory Flanagan: From tongue kissing on YouTube to this - can't wait for the wedding!
Ryder Lynn: This is so exciting! Congratulations Finn and Rachel!
Marley Rose: I'm so happy for you guys!
Kitty Wilde: Well, it was only a matter of time! Invite me to the wedding!
Jake Puckerman: Congratulations! Happy for you both!
Unique Adams: Unique is so excited for you two!
Kylie Nichols: Yay! Can't wait to have you as my brother-in-law!
Joe Hart: God bless you on this journey. Congratulations.
Sugar Motta: This is going to be great!
Harmony Taylor: Guess you'll be married when I get to NYADA next year! Congrats!
"I love how this time everyone's being so supportive," Rachel said as she and Finn read the comments.
"That's because this is the right time," Kurt said.
"I'm so excited," Rachel said. "I'm already thinking about dresses, and decorations, and food, and music, and flowers..."
"Well, other than food, I don't think I'll be much help with any of that," Finn admitted.
"That's what I'm for," Kurt told Rachel.
"Hey, maybe Finn should decide the menu!" Blaine said.
Rachel smiled at Finn. "You can do that."
"With my help," Kurt said.
Finn sighed. "I guess I can agree to that." His phone rang, and he looked at it and saw that it was Mr. Schue. "Oh, it's Mr. Schue!" He picked up the phone. "Mr. Schue, I'm with Rachel, Kurt and Blaine right now, so I'm putting you on speaker."
"Finn, I just saw the Facebook news," Mr. Schue said. "I'm so happy for you and Rachel."
"Thank you," Finn said. "And Mr. Schue, not just for calling, thank you for bringing Rachel and me together. If it hadn't been for glee, we probably never really would have gotten to know each other."
"Yes," Rachel added. "Thank you."
"Rachel and Finn have already decided that they want the glee club to perform at the wedding," Blaine said.
"Well, just give us a date and we'll all come out there for it, if it's in New York," Mr. Schue said.
"It probably will be in New York," Rachel said. "Finn and I are hoping for Bow Bridge. That's where we met for our first ever date in New York."
"That would be great," Mr. Schue said.
"So, how are you guys?" Kurt asked. "How's the baby?"
"It should be any day now," Mr. Schue said. Then Finn heard him calling out, "What is it?"
"What's going on?" Finn asked.
"Guys, I'm so sorry, but I think Emma's going into labor," Mr. Schue said. "I'll call you guys later, okay?"
"Okay," Finn said. "Send us a picture of the baby!"
"I will!" Mr. Schue said. "Love you guys!"
"We love you too," Rachel said.
"So, you two are engaged and Mr. and Mrs. Schuester are about to have a baby," Kurt said. "This is crazy."
"It is, but it's exciting," Rachel said.
Finn felt his phone vibrate and looked at it to see a text from Blaine. "Seeing you and Rachel and how happy you guys are, it's making me wonder if maybe I should propose to Kurt sooner rather than later."
Finn looked at the text and smiled and nodded at Blaine, letting him know that he thought that was a good idea.
A few hours later, Mr. Schuester called Finn again. Blaine and Kurt were still at Shelby's, so Finn put the phone on speaker again. "Mr. Schue, I'm still with Kurt, Blaine and Rachel, so you're on speaker again," Finn said. "So, any news about the baby?"
"The baby's here," Mr. Schue said. "And Emma did great."
"That's great!" Rachel said. "So, your son's here!"
"Yes, our son," Mr. Schue said. "Daniel Finn Schuester."
"I still can't believe you named him after me," Finn said.
"Of course we did," Mr. Schue said. "Finn, you really made a difference in our lives. All the glee kids did, but you were really the one who got glee up and running."
"We'll all have to come visit and meet him sometime," Kurt said.
"I would love that," Mr. Schue said. "I feel so happy now that he's here."
"Well, we're happy for you," Blaine said.

By New Year's Eve, Santana, Tina, Sam and Artie were back in New York, and it was nice to have everyone back in New York. All their friends had decided they wanted to spend New Year's Eve in New York, and their parents had come along too. However, right now, the group was hanging out in Times Square together for New Year's Eve, to wait for the ball drop and ring in 2014.
Times Square on New Year's Eve definitely something Rachel hadn't expected. She knew it would be crowded, but there was barely enough room to move. One thing that was particularly fun was the karoake station for attendees to sing at. Rachel turned to the group. "We all haven't sang together in a while."
"I like that idea," Finn said.
"Yeah, me too," Kurt added.
"Let's do it!" Blaine said.
The group went up to the karaoke station and took their stands at the microphones after selecting a song. "Hi," Rachel said. "My name is Rachel Berry. I'm performing tonight with my fiance Finn Hudson and our friends Artie Abrams, Blaine Anderson, Tina Cohen-Chang, Sam Evans, Kurt Hummel and Santana Lopez. We were members of the 2012 nationally victorious high school show choir, the New Directions, and I hope you enjoy seeing us perform."
The music began as the group started to perform.
Finn: The more you see the less you know
The less you find out as you go
I knew much more then than I do now
Rachel: Neon heart, day-glow eyes
The city lit by fireflies
They're advertising in the skies
And people like us
Kurt: And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground
Blaine: Oh you look so beautiful tonight...
In the city of blinding lights
Artie: Don't look before you laugh
Look ugly in a photograph
Flash bulbs, purple irises the camera can't see
Sam: I've seen you walk unafraid
I've seen you in the clothes you've made
Tina: Can you see the beauty inside of me?
What happened to the beauty I had inside of me?
Kurt: And I miss you when you're not around
Blaine: I'm getting ready to leave the ground
All: Oh you look so beautiful tonight...tonight
In the city of blinding lights
Rachel: Time...time...time...won't leave me as I am
Finn: But time won't take the boy out of this man
All: Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
In the city of blinding lights,
Santana: The more you know
The less you feel
Some pray for, others steal
Blessings not just for the ones who kneel, luckily
As the song ended, Rachel was sure they'd gotten some of the loudest applause of the night. She gave Finn a hug as he leaned over and whispered to her. "You had to introduce me as your fiance, didn't you?"
"Of course I did!" Rachel said, hugging Finn. "At this time next year I hope I'll be calling you my husband."
"I hope so too," Finn said. The group got off the karaoke stage to go reclaim their places to stand in the crowd. "You sounded pretty good up there."
"So did you," Rachel said.
"I can't believe you guys are actually engaged now!" Tina said.
"I know, but I'm so excited," Rachel said.
"I know Kurt probably wants to plan your bachelorette party, but I want to help," Santana said.
"Of course you can!" Rachel said.
Soon, the countdown to 2014 began, and as soon as the ball dropped, Finn pulled Rachel in for a kiss. Rachel couldn't think of a better way to start 2014 than kissing her fiance.
"This is going to be our year," Finn whispered to Rachel.
"It is," Rachel whispered back. "We're going to get married and we're going to start our lives."
