Kurtis had been watching what was happening out of one of the upstairs windows. He was concerned about Lara due to what happened last year. She had lost hers and Alex's baby and now she was pregnant again, Kurtis couldn't help but become protective of his close friend. He was going to be there for her, through thick and thin. He knew that if he left it would tear her apart and he didn't want her to be that way.
That's why he was keeping watch on her and Alex; anything could happen between the pair of them and he would step in if things got out of hand. Bryce walked past Kurtis on his way down to the tech room.
"Hey Bryce, come here." Kurtis said, getting Bryce's attention. Bryce walked over to Kurtis and gave him a tired look. "Do you think she'll be okay?" He asked, looking at Lara through the window. Bryce glanced at Kurtis and took a look at Lara.
"I think she'll be fine, she's a tough one to break." Bryce said, pride settling in his tone. He loved Lara like a sister and had a lot of pride in the fact that she was strong and independent.
Lara pulled away from Alex, and looked into his crystal blue orbs. She couldn't help but wonder what she would do if she lost him...or their baby for that matter. It had already happened once before; she didn't want it happening again.
Alex watched her contently, knowing that she had things on her mind. He couldn't blame her. She had already lost their child once before. What was to stop it from happening again? Nothing. The last time it had happened, he had left. She'd asked him to leave and he had. He didn't want her to suffer more than she already had. He'd left and he'd regretted it everyday since.
All Alex knew now was that he wanted to be here. He wanted to marry Lara and have her become Mrs West. Although she'd probably detest having that as her last name. She was a Croft and she was proud of it, but he knew he'd find some way around it.
A small voice broke him away from his thoughts.
"Alex..." Lara said timidly, unsure of his reaction. She knew that he had a lot on his mind too, not just the fact that he'd only just got her back; but also that she was knocked-up again and that she'd go out tomb raiding and risk not only her life, but their child's too. Alex looked up at her.
"What? What is it?" he asked her, worried that she was over-thinking things. He knew that she had a tendency to do that sometimes. But what he also knew was that she could be a stubborn risk-taker at times.
"I...I just wanted...t-to say..." Lara bit her lip before saying the last part of her sentence. "...that I love you..."
Alex gazed at her before chuckling. He chuckled because at all points in time, the best place she could think of to say those three little words was when he'd thought she'd done a runner. Lara looked at him, wondering why he hadn't said it back. She was worried that he'd think that the baby was an issue, and that he'd leave...again. The last time he left had been her doing but she couldn't help but think about what would have happened if he hadn't responded to Bryce's note; asking him to come back on Lara's behalf. Would she still be moping around, not doing anything? That was highly likely. Would she have nearly drowned again? Again, highly likely.
By this time, Kurtis had turned away from the window. He walked down to the tech room with Bryce and was listening to Bryce's latest story on Lara's adventures...
