Sorry for the long wait, but I have been out of twon recently, so I hope that this longer chapter makes up for it.
Ch 56 The Misguided Missile
Alex stood fully still, because he knew if he moved then Dubois would fire at him. Gia noticed Alex's odd behavior then saw Dubois on the far away skyscraper. "Alex run." She said trying to stay calm. "If I move, she will shoot me." Replied Alex calmly.
Dubois looked through the scope on her sniper rifle pointed at Alex's head from the skyscraper and said. "I have you now lion. I may not have been able to set a trap at ze Hoboken zoo, but zat does not matter now. Time for you to die…" She trailed off when she stated to hear what sounded like something flying through the air. She turned around to see what was making the sound when she saw it. It was an explosive charge looked like it had been fired from a bazooka (the same one that AJ fired that night accidently from the zoo) and was heading towards Dubois.
The charge exploded the second it hit the building, just as Dubois pulled the trigger. The force of the explosion threw off Dubois's aim as she fired only slightly.
Alex felt the bullet just barely graze past his mane harmlessly.
The explosion had slightly burned Dubois and singed her clothes a little, however besides this and a few small bruises and cuts she was unharmed.
She quickly stood back up and took aim again, only to see Alex, Gia, and the cubs had retreated deeper into the tent away from her view.
"No!" Yelled Dubois, as she threw the sniper rifle to the ground in anger. "If I can not kill you from here, then I go to that circus tent and kill you!"
She then began to pace down the stairs, so she could drive to the circus.
(Meanwhile a few minutes later in the sewers)
The penguins and AJ (While he was caring unconscious Adora) walked in silence as they journeyed back to the circus.
When they came to a ladder, AJ knew it was the closest exit from sewers.
AJ managed to climb the latter while holding Adora. Just as AJ began to lift up the manhole lid to exit the sewers, a moped slammed into the manhole lid. AJ was unharmed, however the driver slammed into the brick wall of the outside of a hospital.
AJ pulled himself and Adora out of the manhole, then turned to see who the unharmed diver had been that slammed into the wall. It was Captain Dubois. While she still stunned, AJ carefully set down Adora and picked up the manhole cover.
Just as Dubois began to stand, AJ hit Dubois very hard in the face with the manhole cover. She was instantly knocked out. "I don't have time to deal with this." Said AJ as he turned his attention back to Adora. Just as the penguins made sure Dubois had no weapons on her, AJ picked back Adora.
(Meanwhile at the Circus)
The animals were getting ready to pack up and leave, to avoid Dubois.
Gia ran over to the horse triplets and asked. "Have any of you see AJ or Adora, they should have been back hours ago from the zoo?" "Sorry Gia, we haven't seen them." Said Esmerelda.
Suddenly Gloria came running toward them. "Gia they're back. I saw them coming this way from the caboose with the penguins, however there is something you need to know first…" Gloria didn't even get finish, before Gia bolted off on all fours toward the caboose.
When she arrived at the caboose, she was over-joyed to see AJ coming back with the penguins, but then she noticed Adora unconscious and in AJ's arms. When she looked closer, Gia could see that Adora had bandages wrapped around her small waist that were covered in blood.
Almost immediately AJ was surrounded the circus animals all asking him questions
"Vhat happened, AJ?" asked Vitally.
Gia then managed to get next at AJ and ask. "AJ what did this to her ?"
As AJ opened Kowalski's lab cart's door he replied emotionlessly. "I did."
AJ and the penguins then entered and closed the door to the lab. They knew that if they didn't operate to stop the bleeding soon, Adora would die.
